Magnificent Mooncakes at Kuih Cafe in Chinatown | Eater NY

"I asked Alice Liu, the 29-year-old second-generation co-owner of Grand Tea & Imports (started in 2006 by her father, known as “Teafucius”), to develop tea pairings for these mooncakes: she recommended white peony as a gentle foil to pandan snowskin, black teas (including rose and lychee varieties her shop sells) to cut through rich, floral decadence, and ripe tangerine pu-erh (a bestseller) to add earthy body and bright citrus to the butterfly-pea-skins and kumquat cream cheese; she also suggested osmanthus green tea for savory, umami-forward mooncakes and chrysanthemum tea to balance tropical pineapple-style rabbit pastries while evoking a familiar, nostalgic sweetness." - Richard Morgan

Chinatown, Three Years After COVID | Eater NY

"Alice Liu, who is the business manager for her family’s store, Grand Tea Imports on Grand Street, told me the shop has not returned to its pre-pandemic opening hours—what she calls 'money left on the table'—and that they try to keep in-store prices low for their community while charging slightly higher prices for online sales shipped out of state to help recoup losses." - Cathy Erway

NYC Restaurateurs React to New COVID-19 Surcharge | Eater NY

"I saw that multi-generational family business Grand Tea and Imports in Chinatown was heavily damaged last night in a fire that tore through its building, and the shop is accepting donations to cover the cost of the damages." - Erika Adams

Google
Grand Tea and Imports really is a treasure trove of Chinese tea and cultural artifacts. On the owner's recommendation, we picked up a couple of teas and thoroughly enjoyed them. It was heartwarming to see young Chinese patrons excited and nostalgic as they encountered items reminding them of their childhood. The store is run with love by a husband-wife duo and they were extremely polite and hospitable during our visit. I truly enjoyed the selection of teas and would highly recommend this store!

Really kind shop owners, and great selection of teas. Especially if you like oolong. They have a wide variety of oolong. They also have a nice selection of cute chopstick holders.

I love this store! I finally stopped by recently, and I’ll be back soon. The store owner was so friendly and welcoming, and their tea selection is fantastic. They have high quality tea for amazing prices too. I bought yellow tea for only $4 an ounce, and they have more specialty teas like 30 year aged Pu Erh. Their teaware is also quite nice!

Google
The lady politely showed me variety of teas. I only wish we would have milk black or milk green tea. The whole range is exactly of what I experienced when I travelled to China. Tea sold in this shop is of genuine taste)

Google
Owner was knowledgable and explained the different teas. Good selection, but I was resold tea from a different NYC shop for more than double the price.

Yelp
Grand Tea and Imports houses a treasure trove of Chinese tea and artifacts of Chinese culture that is brilliant and fascinating at the same time. We picked up a couple of teas based on the owner's recommendation and we greatly enjoyed them. I saw a few young Chinese patrons come to the store and get very excited and nostalgic looking at items that reminded them of their childhood. The store truly feels like a labor of love for the husband-wife duo who ran it, and they were extremely polite and hospitable when we visited. I really enjoyed the selection of teas and would highly recommend it!

Yelp
The old lady working here is SO kind. I asked her for a beginner's white tea and she rattled off a list of about 10 to choose from. Got an ounce of white peony tea and an ounce of fuding white tea, both pretty affordable at $5/oz and they are both delicious!

Yelp
This place is narrow so be careful when browsing or you might knock something off a shelf. Other than that, the lady working here was super nice. I was a bit intimidated since I don't feel confident enough to speak Chinese and wasn't sure on how to order the tea but you just kind of look at her when you are ready to order and she will ask which teas and how much you want. I'd come back here since the prices look good to me. Not that I'm a tea expert

Yelp
Small but great shop selling traditional Chinese teas and other stuff. They have a large variety of teas at good prices. Staff is friendly and helpful and they do accept credit cards.

Yelp
This tea is so good! We bought some in April of this year, and are already out of the puerhs and couldn't wait to restock. While we wish we could go see them in person, we do not live in the same state. We only ordered two types of tea this round: The Tangerine Puerh- this is the current house favorite. These last so many steeps! We are both enjoying exquisite flavor and a bang for our buck! Our record was 15 steeps. Dr. Meifong's Flu Tea-this tea was my rock during COVID. The flavor was really good, and steeping it took time that was well spent. I love the smell and flavor of this tea even during non sick days. My only wish would be that they would post clear instructions on how to steep this tea on this tea's webpage. I did ask them directly and I got an answer within a business day. We can't wait to visit them in person, and in the meantime we will continue to explore and order more of their teas.

Yelp
I was excited to visit Grand Tea and Imports for some loose teas. My husband and I love to drink tea, especially teas that have medicinal qualities that can improve our overall health and well-being. My son came along with me on this RIDE and we found parking right in front. Yaling (spelling?) assisted me. She gifted me with my freebie package of Tangerine Pu-erh tea. While there, I also inquired about their other teas. We usually drink a lot of turmeric but they didn't have anything like that in the shop. Yaling called someone named Alice to help with translation and I was able to ask questions about their other teas. I bought 5oz each of their chrysanthemum, and rose black teas. I love the rose black tea. It's fragrant, very floral. Rose petals contain polyphenols, antioxidants that work to protect your body from cell damage. The polyphenols in rose tea have been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and cognitive diseases. I can't wait to try the chrysanthemum tea. I think I'll use it for my bedtime ritual to help me wind down for the night, since it will help with calm. We don't frequent the area but anytime I'm in the neighborhood picking up some dumplings and hopefully a weekend dim sum brunch very soon, I will have to stop by and get more teas. I also picked up a golden lucky cat for my daughter. We were watching TV earlier in the day and she saw one on TV so I figured I'd surprise with it. She loves it.

Yelp
I had to stop myself and mind my manners when I stepped foot into this tea house. The selections are simply endless foe the tea lover. I've spent most of my life drinking herbal teas for just about any thing that ails me. My babies were also brought up drinking various teas for various childhood conditions. Always fresh picked and dried peppermint tea to go to sleep with to upset stomachs, colds viruses flu, calming them. As adults now, they all know the benefits from drinking tea and use them daily. I have recently researched the benefits of drinking pu erh tea and was not going to miss out on the opportunity to learn first hand by the owners sweet educated daughter who wa so kind ans honest about what I had researched. This young lady I will never forget ever. Ms. directed me on what I want looking for, and more. Sure these teas are available other places, but not rich quality as this tiny shop carries. It's been yeats years since I've been ge to NYC I will always make time to visit and reup when I visit again My son who lives again in NY surprise me and popped up at the shop(thanks apple) and purchased a beautiful handmade pot for me to enjoy them in. I have shared much of my purchases with friends, so it's my time to sit and sip now.

Yelp
This is definitely not the kind of shop I expected to be featured as a Yelp Elite event. I first wandered into Grand Daddy tea and they looked at me bewildered. I finally found this shop which transported me back to SF Chinatown and all the small hole-in-the-walls I would frequent growing up. Props to the Yelp Elite team for finding this shop and setting up this event to highlight Chinatown businesses. It's a great little shop that has not only a variety of teas to try, but also Chinese gifts, firecrackers, red envelopes, tea cups and pots, and other nice earthenware. Check them out!

Yelp
I've been here a few times now and it has always been a pleasure. I always enjoy drinking their tangerine pu-erh tea, so that is usually something I buy each time I am here, but I've also tried some of their other teas which are also really good. The most recent time I had forgotten the name of one that I had bought before, but I was able to show them a photo of it and they were able to help me find it.

Yelp
I have not brewed any of my tea yet but, the best customer service from a lovely lady. She bent over backwards to make a novice tea buyer's experience a happy one. A large selection of teas with a specialization in Pu ehr. Aside from what looks like a very comprehensive selection of teas and tea making supplies, they have a large, colorful selection of Taoist/Buddhist ephemera. There's an awful lot packed into this small shop and I'd say it's not to be missed.

Yelp
I was looking for a gift for my son & it had to reflect that 2019 is the Year of The Pig. The salesperson was so knowledgeable about the Chinese Zodiac. She helped me pick out the perfect gifts. I will return to this store for sure! Wonderful choices in all kinds of gifts and their live plant selection ranges from the very smallest plant to sit in the tiniest NY apartment windowsill, to 6 foot tall plants for a spacious condo in Hudson Yards. I will definitely be back to this store.

Yelp
This is the place to go when it comes to chinese culture! They have it all. They answered all my questions in a warm and knowledge way. They have a vast variety of lunar new year goodies. But doesn't matter what season you visit then on you will not be able to leave without some of their unique traditional products.
