Mediocre doughnuts at best. I honestly would prefer Cub Foods doughnuts. We got 6 doughnuts and a cookie, our total came to $28. Empty case even at 11 am and we didn't get help until I took my phone out to take pictures for a review.

Google
A large bakery that has a retail counter as well. Prices were quite a bit higher than I expected given you were purchasing directly from the bakery and not from another retailer that this bakery supplies. $1.75 for their larger donuts and $1.25 for the smaller cake donuts. I feel that at a minimum, they should offer a bulk discount when buying a significant number of baked goods.

Google
They are renamed Blue Sky bakery but still have a wonderful selection of baked goods. Pie slices, muffins, bread, cupcakes and the most beautifully decorated cookies! The display case is a treasure trove of yummy things. Check the hours as they are not open for long each day!

Love Grandmas Bakery! Smells so good and fresh the minute you pull in the parking lot. They have every type of delicious donut, muffin, cookie, cake etc. Amazing, and very talented, cake decorators! I've ordered a few cakes for graduations, baby showers, and baptisms. Very helpful and creative input when needing help making all the important decisions that goes along with a "Custom Cake." Also, I ran into a very friendly and helpful employee that helped me make a selection for my sweet tooth! 😋 Go Bears!!!! 🧡🤍🖤🧡🤍🖤

After an early sunrise engagement photoshoot at Motaska Park I wanted to explore downtown White Bear Lake! Ended up having breakfast at a local Bar and Grill but was craving something fresh for dessert so I walked over to Grandmas Bakery (mainly because their name on the downtown map caught my attention). I got 3 hot espresso shots and a Danish Pastry. Service was fast, location was clean, overall a great experience! Would def stop in again.

Google
So, typically my venue deals with ordering through Grandma’s Bakery. Unfortunately, when we booked the venue we were told we could do any cake, but later found out if we booked the cake through the venue we couldn’t do a teared cake. So, I went to the bakery directly. Unfortunately we didn’t have the best experience with them either. We wanted a small teared cake, but they couldn’t go as small as we wanted. Oh well… we were going to make it work. Then, the prices on the website didn’t match what they quoted me. When I complained about this they removed the prices from the website immediately. There’s now a disclaimer saying prices may very or something like that. So, the cake ended up being $2 more per slice than anticipated. They also wouldn’t deliver because we didn’t have a big enough cake. Additionally I wanted simple flowers. They would only do buttercream and I didn’t want that cause I wanted them realistic. If I wanted to do fondant it was going to be an extra $2.5 per slice (or something like that). So we got it plain. Luckily I have a friend who picked it up and we added our own flowers. It turned out exactly how I wanted, but it was a hassle and they didn’t work with me at all to make it easier. Save yourself the time and money and go somewhere else. I ended up paying $170 for a plain white teared cake that fed 20 people roughly.

Google
Thank you, especially to Tanya, who answered my early phone call and was nothing short of incredibly responsive and even offered to add an extra, last minute decoration to our custom order. The cupcakes looked great, exactly what we request. Thank you! 5 stars for friendly customer service, one the best examples of customer service I've experienced in the MSP area! Side note: learned these guys have got to be good as they are the bakery for the Wild.

Google
They have the best bakery goods. My wife loved the individual cheesecake she got for her birthday. The staff is very informative and friendly.

Yelp
This is not the Grandma's Bakery of old. This is now a Donut Outlet. They no longer have fresh cakes, pastries, or bakery items. Now they have old, stale donuts. They should no longer have the Grandma's Bakery name on their signs. Very disappointed.

Leanna D.

Yelp
I've never understood the hype. But i grew up blocks away from Maplewood bakery and nothing compares to maplewood's goods. Friends love grandmas and I've given them so many chances over the last 20 years but I always am disappointed.

Yelp
I have been coming to the white bear bakery location for many years and it unfortunately been going down hill new management is needed. Today One of the managers was very rude to me for no reason, I'm never going back there again!

Yelp
There cakes and christmas cookie exchange every year are fantastic. Donuts are fantastic as well

Yelp
We went to this place based off of the photos on yelp. I have to say the store did not have any of the donuts shown in the photo's. There were hardly any choices and this was shortly after they opened. We were just really looking forward to trying a new place and unique flavors but what we got was what seemed like commercially delivered to the store. They are not bad but they don't taste any different than gas station donuts and have the same variety as a gas station but for about twice the cost. Still looking for someone to beat Bloedow's in Winona, MN

Yelp
Best donuts ever had the price amazing highly recommended coming employees are one of the best persons ever

Yelp
Terrible experience. I had ordered a cake a few weeks prior to my son's birthday. Pick up was at 10 am on sunday. I got there at 11 am and the store was CLOSED!!!! No one answering phones and multiple people outside waiting to get to their cakes. Very disappointed and will never be ordering from there again. And unfortunately this is the second time I have had a bad experience.

Yelp
Wonderful donuts at Grandma's. Get there early for the best selection. Staff is very friendly!

Yelp
If you knew the old grandma's bakery. You would have said they got way over priced. And they cut there stock in half. They still provide great cakes, and doughnuts. Good tasting. In the short time I was there. They missed an order of cookies for a lady. She had to come back later that day. I had two dozen doughnuts ordered assortment. Had to take some cinnamon rolls and danishes to make the assortment. I never seen the shelves so empty. By the time I was done the 2 dozen was over 50.00.

Yelp
We got our wedding cutting cake and sheet cakes from Grandmas Bakery.... let me tell you... it was SO GOOD! Everyone loved it, so moist, perfect texture, and the frosting was amazing!!!

Yelp
My husband had been wanting to visit this bakery since he stumbled upon it while working. He took me there and we walked out with About 20$ of goodies all delicious. This bakery bakes large quantities and supplies other retailers and convenience stores. The manufacturing of the goodies was easily to see and neat to watch for a bit. They had some samples to try. Looking for treats for your fur babies? They have them here. My dog seemed to like them!

Yelp
I was expecting to visit the Grandma's Bakery in DT WBL. However, Google Maps took me to the Grandma's WHOLESALE Bakery in Maplewood, right near 694/hwy 61 on a service road in a business park. If visiting from another city, make sure you enter the correct address!! (I had looked at multiple bakeries in the TC this morning and thought I had mixed up my locations. Nope...I was right just clicked on the wrong Google address.) Wholesale bakery still had a retail entrance. Tiny storefront compared to what I expected. Still able to purchase what in wanted. Was cool to see big baking operation going on behind counter. Next time I'll make sure to actually visit the correct location.

Yelp
Awesome birthday cake (marble with buttercream)! Called on Wednesday for pick up on Friday and it was no trouble. Our go to cake spot in the Twin Cities. The hamburger and hotdog buns are delicious too!

Yelp
This marks the seventh year that we've gotten a birthday cake here! (Where does the time go?!) This year, our peanut wanted a cat themed party and I searched through their entire catalog of cakes online -- not a single cat! :( I helped my son pick out an alternative cake with lots of frosting and I just happened to mention all of this in passing to my husband. "I'll talk to them! I'll tell them to have some artistic freedom!" ...and he did! The guy and gal who took our cake order were AWESOME! They were so helpful and said it was no problem to order something customized like that. The result was adorable! This is a fantastic bakery and we're lucky to have them right here in White Bear Lake!

Yelp
My wedding cake was from Grandma's in 2007 and have been a loyal and happy customer since then. The people and product had always been great. However, today was the first time going since the new ownership. I could not believe the price and quality difference. Bismarks are $4 each! For a dozen, nothing special donuts, I paid over $31. When selecting the donuts from the case, I asked the person helping me if the donuts in the case were from yesterday as they looked dry, and the sugars had melted away on some of the donuts. She laughed and said no. When I arrived at work and ate one, I was very disappointed. The donut was dry and tasteless. This seems to be truly the local company bought by an organization that has different goals that the previous ownership.

Yelp
Donuts were really really good, but I was quite disappointed that they didn't have anything unique as pictured on yelp. The only thing they had was plain Jane donuts. Just the kind that you would see at a gas station. Oh I was really hoping for a Keylime doughnut or a coconut doughnut no just a regular Maple/Chocolate/vanilla doughnut
google avatar

Yelp
Really, either location is great. I prefer this one because it's a little bit closer, but they are both excellent. We have purchased cookies, cakes, custom cookies, cupcakes, donuts etc . I like that they have a lot of choices to choose from and they are ready to eat. There are a lot of wonderful pastries to choose from and they are all seriously delicious.

Leah S.

Yelp
WOW! Unbelievable! We never ordered a custom cake before and I wanted one for my 6 year olds birthday party. I called 3 other places and they all wanted 2-3 week notice. I didn't want anything too crazy so I thought that was kind of silly. I called grandmas bakery and they took my order 1 week our with no problem. I sent them a picture and the one they made me wAs even better. Not to mention extremely tasty!! We will 100% be back. The staff was very friendly and professional. I just cannot say enough great t

Yelp
This is run by a very famous local baker/pastry chef, Danny Klecko. How famous is he? He presented a special bread to Gorbechev. I had the featured WW II bread which is a Russian sourdough. So wonderful for a baked ham and swiss with mustard. When you walk in there are prepared cakes, cookies, and pies all over. I know they deliver to Longfellow Market and I'm sure all over. For obvious reasons I have to limit my visits here. This is the main retail bakery and it's nice to not have to go into downtown.

Kate F.

Yelp
Listen, Grandma's will never let you down when it comes to treats, but their cakes are A-MAZING. I gave them fairly vague guidelines (princess-y, unicorn-y, purple/pink) and they produced a WORK OF ART. Year after year, they make our family's birthday cakes- we are always impressed, but this year we were WOW'd. To the individual who created our cake- THANK YOU!

Zoey D.

Yelp
So the new owners took over. Was expecting an upgrade in the goods. The quantity and quality is less than before. What is up, is price. I don't mind paying, but this boring bunch of goods on offer is just plain sad. This can't be the best you can do?

Patricia P.

Yelp
Grandma's has new owners. Firstly, I went in to buy one of their wonderful pies and was told that they no longer make pies. Secondly, I bought a loaf of their white bread, but it tasted like cinnamon bread because the loaf was probably baked in a tin previously used to bake something with cinnamon in it. Who wants to eat a ham sandwich that tastes like cinnamon? Not me. Their bread used to be absolutely delicious. Thirdly, they were so short-staffed that the woman who came in after me was ignored for the entire time I was there, which was over ten minutes because the only clerk serving customers couldn't find a box to put my cupcake in. After a while, I tried to tell the clerk to just cancel the cupcake, but she wouldn't give up on finding a box. I appreciate her efforts, but it took entirely too long to get a box. I felt awful for the woman who still hadn't been served when I left the store. I used to love this bakery, but I won't be returning.

Yelp
I've had an epiphany. If I substitute my breakfast and lunch with a Grandma's donut, maybe eat a modest dinner, I can quite possibly still stay within my calorie goal intake for the day...and hopefully avoid diabetes. For breakfast I'd go with the crème brûlée donut because it's delicious, and fun to say even if most of the time you sound like a d-bag saying it. The top is a crunchy, sugary, glaze. Taste just like dessert. Mmmm. Lunch, I'll take a key lime donut. It might be my favorite donut ever. This thing is so refreshing, crisp, with a skillful blend of sweetness and citrus. It's got that perfect "light" flavor and feeling...then you remember it's a donut. I am currently starring at a salted caramel donut, and mini chocolate "lava" cake thing. Too bad it's dinner time. Just a note, the bakery is in an office building strip. It's sort of odd and tucked back along Buerkle Rd. It's also pretty loud inside. The bakery is open right behind the counter, so I find myself repeating stuff a lot. The cashiers are friendly though. Oh, and if you're looking for a baguette, they ain't got none. That was a disappointment. However, they do have cakes, cookies, biscotti's, and I saw dinner rolls.

Yelp
Loved this bakery! You can see the donuts being made and there are all your favorite donuts fresh and available for purchase. They also have bread, cookies, and other desserts. We tried a few different types along with peppermint bark and loved them all!

Faith M.

Yelp
One morning we were in search of donuts. The coffee shop we stopped at was all out. A lady heard us and told us to try Grandma's bakery in White Bear Lake. That was probably 10 years ago. This has been our go to donut place ever since! Everyone in the family can find their favorite kind. My personal favorite is the long john with maple frosting and a slice of bacon on top. Most of my family loves a plain glazed donut. I would go earlier in the morning to make sure to get the best selection. They have a wide root beer selection too.
google avatar

Sam M.

Yelp
Its a large industrial bakery with a retail counter. The donuts were good, the coffee was meh. As a quaint donut stop it is a miss. If you need a mess of donuts (or cupcakes) for an event this may be your place. I just dont need that many donuts so I say A-ok
google avatar

Molly C.

Yelp
Simply put, it's a large bakery with a view to production behind the counter. Everyone is friendly. They have all the standard items you expect from a traditional bakery. The bonus and why I like going here is when I'm hosting a gathering around any holiday Grandma's has something delicious that reflects the season. Whether it's Halloween coOkies or Christmas bread, it's good and reasonable.

D'Andrea S.

Yelp
Ordered pies for thanksgiving, expecting a great pie... was extremely disappointed with all three(pumpkin, apple, blueberry) not only were they lackluster in appearance, the crust was bland and the filling left much to be desired as well. Ive had better pies from the grocery store freezer section.
google avatar

Yelp
I had two big events in one weekend & I ordered cake & cupcakes for both events from Grandmas bakery. Bakery items were delicious! Ordering the cakes was a positive experience, I was offered help immediately and given lots of options with pictures and pricing on iPad which was helpful. They have early open hours so that was convenient in pick up times! Definitely recommend and will be ordering in the future again!

Angela S.

Yelp
Easy to work with and such a fabulous job on our luau themed custom-decorated cookies. Beat all expectations!
google avatar

Gioia S.

Yelp
Really delicious chocolate cake. We ordered a full sheet cake for a birthday party with chocolate frosting, and I was really impressed. The cake is deep dark cocoa in color and chocolate flavor. The cake texture is soft and has a good crumb. If you're familiar with Key's chocolate cake, that has a tighter crumb. Just a point of reference for this. Everyone at the party loved the cake. The chocolate frosting is creamy before it is sweet, which is perfectly balanced. I also had a French cruller with white glaze, and this was delicious too. The donut was a nice light texture and the glaze was sugary and rich. And for $1.00, that's a great deal. Their other donuts and pastries also looked delicious. I'll have to come back and try other things.

Tiffany S.

Yelp
The best in the business! For my daughter's 3rd birthday I brought in a picture of her beloved stuffed animal & they made the most amazing cake! Thank you Grandmas-not only adorable, but delicious & gave superior customer service!!! Cant wait for the next party! :)
google avatar

Eva G.

Yelp
Maybe I have high standards for bakeries but this didn't not live up to the hype. Cold stale pastries close to $4. I think I will get my pastries from Kowalski's which have been impressive. I got the almond Pastry-- label was not provided and couldn't even eat a quarter of it. maybe they are good at sheet cakes but their pastries don't cut it.
google avatar

Michelle H.

Yelp
Amazing work, they are not just great bakers they are artist. I was able to give them a picture of a Sloth and baby from the Baby Shower invitation and they were able to create it even better on the cake!! Their prices are also reasonable for being able to create such great custom work.
google avatar

Nate M.

Yelp
This place is great! We needed cakes for a last minute party. Got 3 for $13/each. Lemon, black and white, and chocolate. All three were fantastic! Definitely coming back here way too often.

Bonnie P.

Yelp
My granddaughter had her Quinceañera just recently and we ordered the cake from Grandma's. The cake was fantastic! The deep blue flowers with the gold tints were so beautiful! In the beginning, they brought us in for a tasting where they provided a variety of cake and icing flavors. They made it very sensational and made us feel special. We were blessed that day and Grandmas played a huge part in it.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been to this location a few times in the way to work. There's no seating so it's completely grab and go. The setup is kind of cool, it's basically a display case in the middle of their huge factory style bakery. So you get to see the huge ovens and assembling lines and see people loading up trucks to deliver donuts. Their display is really nice, they have lots of options of donuts, cakes, cookies, cupcakes, and other pastries. For me though, it's all about the donuts and Grandmas turns out a pretty good chocolate glazed cake donut and glazed old fashioned (along with tons of other varieties). They've got plain coffee but no fancy drinks (fine with me). Overall a great place to grab some tasty treats and just as convenient as stopping at a gas station for lower quality goods; so class it up a little and go to a real bakery like Grandmas.
google avatar

Chuck S.

Yelp
We used to love dropping by this bakery, a great family-owned place with fresh donuts. Unfortunately, we were treated extremely rudely this Saturday afternoon by an employee when we simply asked if any more glaze donuts were being made. We're on our way to a different donut shop now!
google avatar

K J.

Yelp
I've used Grandma's Bakery twice. Both specialty cakes, one was a picture collage for a 70th birthday, the other a baby shower cake to match the invitation. Both cakes were beyond my expectations in design. But, the best part is when people say how delicious they are also. The employees are always friendly & very accommodating. I will ALWAYS get my cakes here!

Yelp
Seriously... Worth the drive... The best cakes, customer service, & personalized gifts! I have worked near Grandma's Bakery in Maplewood for 12 years. Every time there is a special occasion, my co-workers & I pick up something to celebrate @ Grandma's. They specialize in bakery decorating. They have cupcakes, cookies, mini cakes, birthday cakes, holiday cakes, wedding cakes... a cake for every occasion in every different shape & size imaginable. & not only do these cakes look good, they taste fabulous as well. My boyfriend's birthday was just a day away & last minute, I thought I would get him a birthday cake. I called Grandma's Bakery & asked them if they could make me a rock climbing cake that read "Happy Birthday" to be ready the next day. They asked what color hair my boyfriend had & said the cake would be ready the next day. I was a little nervous giving such a vague description over the phone, but decided to go with it. What they produced was better than I ever though possible (see photos) for $17. The cake was amazing & my boyfriend was so surprised. I have also ordered cookies w/ "congratulations" on them, baby shower cakes, & even gingerbread houses from them during the holidays. All have been great. A MUST TRY! :)
google avatar

Yelp
A coworker brings in Grandma's Bakery doughnuts every week, so my sample size is pretty big. Their pastries are pretty classic, nothing too crazy, but who what's a surprise in their longjohn? Not this girl.
google avatar

Erin G.

Yelp
I found myself in this neck of the woods and as always, had to try out a new bakery. This was their big bakery with a little storefront. Now, it was about 3 pm, so the selection was more limited. I was looking for a fancy donut, but they didn't have any. She said there was one that was creme filled like one of those little cupckaes, but they were sold out, so I was bummed. I ended up getting a cherry donut (flavor of the month) and a lemon lime cupcake (it was the only cupcake left that was filled). I NEED my cupcakes to be filled. The donut wasn't that great. The cupcake was delicious. The lady who was working was so nice and put up with my indecisiveness and questions like a champ. I want to try out their main place sometime if I am ever in the area again, and try to go earlier so there is more of a selection. Also, there were samples of something delicious. I don't remember what it was, but it was very good, very sweet.

Yelp
The Best bakery around the white bear area.I go there often always great service and great breads donuts cookies.

Yelp
My order was done on time, the presentation of my cupcakes was very nice, the staff was very pleasant, the interior is exceptional; I'd like to go there to hang out & the exterior is great with a water bowl for dogs, 3-4 seats for people passing by & flowers in planters. My order was 6 jumbo cupcakes, 2 white, 2 chocolate & 2 red velvet with pink, white & chocolate frosting (w. glitter!). Unfortunately when I went to pick up, I was told that the girl who took the order wasn't aware that they don't make red velvet in the jumbo size & they subbed with 1 extra chocolate & 1 with white cake. I specifically requested the red chocolate due to it being a special favorite for my daughter on her 1st Mothers Day. If they don't make jumbo cupcakes in red velvet, I wonder 2 things: 1. Why not? 2. They had my phone number, why didn't they call? I would have requested them in the regular size. The cupcakes weren't exactly "jumbo, the size of a muffin". If that's jumbo, I'm glad I didn't order regular or mini. The frosting was buttercream, (not the slimey frosting used by the competition) & they tasted fine, but not great. I also bought a glazed doughnut, but it was stale (h.e. it was also 4:30 in the afternoon). Flavor was less than at SA.! Prices were right 'tho - 1.60 for the jumbo cupcakes. The competition "Uptown Girls" tasted fabulous (I'm still thinking how good it was), presentation was great, customer service - not so much & the appearance of the store is a little rundown compared to "Grandmas".They were unable to make 6 cupcakes with 24 hrs. notice, however. I found that to be silly considering they are rather new to town & kind of expensive, charging 3.00/cupcake that was decent sized. You chose. I'm confused. Next time I'm taking pie!

Jean O.

Yelp
I had a cake emergency and they were so kind and understanding! The fabulous staff whipped up a sheet cake for a last minute gathering at my work the next day! Thanks so much! You guys are awesome!

Yelp
Amazing graduation cake. Accepted order on short notice and produced a beautifully decorated cake as requested. Great service and product. My go to bakery for all needs.

Yelp
You cannot go wrong in this place. We have had cookies, cakes, and other yummy treats. I am sorry that my review will be short, but when you have an awesome bakery there is not much more to say. You want a great baked item, come here. It helps that they are close to my home, but I would probably drive across the Twin Cities for some of their treats.

k j.

Yelp
One of the top cake donuts in the Twin Cities. Go to the St. Paul Farmer's Market early on a Saturday to pick one up, or head to either their downtown White Bear Lake store or their outlet in an office park in White Bear Lake (the store that this review is attached to) if you miss that. Easy trip up the Bruce Vento trail from downtown St. Paul to this store to burn off the fat if you have a GPS - this store is just after the end of the trail by a few blocks (although getting onto the trail downtown may require some help from passersby who know what they're doing).

Carrie D.

Yelp
Yum! Yum! Yum! Awesome baked goods- especially the cakes and apple fritters. You can't compare their cakes to Costco or Cub. They are on a different level! Your guests will know that you are cheap and don't care about the quality of your food if you serve them a Cub or Costco cake. Seriously, Grandma's cake is moist, super flavorful and just plain old good. Good people own it and they give back tons to the community. High quality and fresh baked goods. Need I say more? Go here!!!
