Yelp
Rounding up the 4.3 rating to 5 stars because the food was fantastic! My partner and I had the popcorn chicken (hot), salt & pepper pork chop, minced pork rice, fried mantou, braised beef noodle soup (medium), chicken cutlet rice, and traditional milk tea w boba -
TASTE: 5/5 - felt like homemade Taiwanese cooking. The popcorn chicken was truly spicy, and the pork chop was seasoned well w a light sugar undertone. The fried mantou was sinful from the bun itself, but also topped w condensed milk and homemade brown sugar syrup. The braised beef noodle soup was on point: pleasantly more sour and spicier than expected. The milk tea tasted more like tea, vs an indulgent milk flavor, which we still enjoyed!
TEXTURE: 5/5 - the popcorn chicken, mantou, and chicken cutlet were fried perfectly w satisfying, crunchy bites. The pork chop, minced pork, and braised beef were tender
PRICE: 5/5 - we ordered so much because it was easy to! Glad the price points are accessible for more folks to try Taiwanese food. Items in the appetizers section range from $2-10, soup & noodles $10-23, and rice $12
SERVING SIZE: 4/5 - portions are good to share. Devoured everything, besides some of the popcorn chicken to take home
SERVICE: 3/5 - most days, Grandma's Kitchen opens from 11am-3pm, closes for a midday break, then resumes w 5-7:30pm dinner service. We walked in at 5:15pm on a Friday and all tables (only 3!) were already taken. We waited inside, w more groups coming after us, and were excited to finally be seated ~40min later. Although it took a long time up front, our food started coming out immediately after we placed our order, and the staff were friendly and attentive. Would consider ordering for takeout, in the event of another long wait, next time!
ATMOSPHERE: 4/5 - cute, homey, and narrow space filled w Polaroid photos and Christmas decor
PARKING: 4/5 - got a street spot on Washington St and walked a block over
