Grandview

Went mid October 2025 We went here for a little hiking trip. It is super easy, basic hiking nothing hard or spectacular. The outlook is wheelchair accessible and easy to see with beautiful views. The tunnel trail was cook, quick easy hike. The castle rock was the most fun of all NRG. Still easy but a little more roots and rocks. Also a quick hike. We kept going and connected to the RIM View trail to make it a loop. It was quick but the rocks were cool. We did see a black rat snake on the trail so be cautious. The welcome center there was closed. The playground was busy but looked nice. They are flushable toilets but they were nasty and not taken care of. Although there was running water so great place to wash your hands if you are camping. It was all free, dog friendly. Was I happy I went? Of course, would I go again? Probably not.

As a photographer and hiker, love Grandview. Breath taking views, great hiking trails with interesting features to explore, and awesome backdrops for photos are everywhere. If you enjoy hiking, photography, or both, visit Grandview...you won't be disappointed.

We were at a campout for a week and couldn’t really go out, we wanted to get a better taste of the beautiful West Virginia and this place came up on my GPS, great if you’re in a hurry, we parked and walked 3 minutes to one of the most , beautiful views, breathtaking views we were short on time but we were able to hike and find more out looks. We got a pretty good feel and hint of WEST VIRGINIA. Would totally come back again, great for if you’re just going by.

Beautiful overlook! Very nice hikes in the area as well. Lots of room for picnics or just relaxing.

We love Grandview. Not only does it have incredible views, but also wonderful hiking trails and a playground. We often hike up to Turkey Spur, where there is a beautiful view of the New River down below. Very dog friendly place - we love taking our pup on the Castle Rock trail.

Absolutely breathtaking view in Fall. We visited at sunset and sunrise. Sadly too much cloud this weekend. You can park very close to the overlook and its a two min walk only.

I hope to see this in the spring with all the trees! But this winter was an amazing time to experience the gorge. We had a wonderful time exploring the area and hiking some of the trail. Unfortunately the slipperiness of the snow prevented more exploration, but it was a great place to meet and spend time together. The view was spectacular, and definitely recommended for anyone who enjoys a short hike, but would also be willing to explore more. Enjoying the hike in the winter was great, I just wish they were blazes on the trails and the trees, so that it would be easier to navigate to the trails. I definitely recommend traveling here and visiting, especially if you're close. There's a lot of things to see and many trails to hike. This specific location was definitely worthwhile.

BRAVO!!!! We had the pleasure of attending Into the Woods at Grandview Theater, and it was truly a magical experience from start to finish. The production was beautifully done — the level of talent on stage was remarkable, with powerful voices, nuanced performances, and a cast that brought each character to life with depth and charm. The costumes were absolutely ravishing — creative, colorful, and perfectly suited to the enchanting world of the show. Every detail, from the staging to the choreography, felt professional and thoughtfully executed, making this production feel like something you’d expect to see on a much larger stage. As visitors passing through, we felt so fortunate to have discovered this gem. By a wonderful twist of fate, we met Susie — the costume designer for the production — at a local diner earlier that day, and took it as our sign to see the show. We’re so glad we did! Bravo to the entire cast and crew for delivering such a memorable and high-caliber performance. Highly recommend catching this show if you have the chance — it’s a true delight!

Today, Kayla Beth Fields , Deacon and I were on our way to a Labor Day Cookout at my cousin, Wanda Blackwell home. We stopped at Grandview State Park to use restrooms, enjoy the Beautiful Famous Horseshoe Bend Vista and play on the playground. We had a nice little 20 minute break from the road. Deacon enjoyed himself.

Went here for the famous Grandview overlook and it was such an amazing experience. There are a ton of trails for you to explore, with a wide range of difficulty. But as the name states, the Grandview is just beautiful and breathtaking. To get to the overlook, there is a parking lot close by to the entrance and its basically a short walk. If you wanted to explore more areas, there are signs with different trails for you to explore. It all loops back.

Amazing view here to see the river, gorge and railway, all together. You can also hike to get on the Turkey swirl overlook, we choose to drive instead. We had a great time here.

Aptly named Grand view ... and yes the view is breathtaking. We only had a couple days so we were rushed to see as much as possible. We were at Babcock park and a guy taking pictures recommended Grandview as worth visiting for fall colors and scenery. We parked .. took the very short walk to the overlook.

I love this park that have many view points without a lot of hiking. I can see myself coming here every year before I ever go back to Gatlinburg to busy now to enjoy. There are many trails you can easily get to from most parking lots The scenery is breathtaking peace and quiet

This is one of the must see sites for the New Gorge National Park. This is one of the two places that we went to see inside the park. The other was Turkey Spur which I would also highly recommend. This is easy to get to by automobile as it is right off of WV 9. It has a large parking lots, several trails, restrooms and a visitors center. The visitors center that was not open when we visited. The overlook is about 300 feet from the closest part of the parking lot (the east-most part). It is a sloping walk down to the overlook across a very nice sidewalk made from large stones. When the stones are wet, it may get a little wet so please be careful. There is also at least one trail leading off from this walkway to the south (right as your headed to the outlook). The overlook has a wooden fence/railing and a 2 tiered viewing area. The upper tier has an informational board showing where the various sites in the park are. It is an excellent view of the New River from 1400 feet above the New River. I highly recommend this to my fellow visitors in the area for its beautiful view.

Great place for fantastic view. Nice hiking trails with plenty of wildlife. A real nice place to have a picnic and enjoy some family and friends times. I definitely recommend this place if you're looking to get away and just relax and enjoy nature

Grandview State Park is such a gorgeous place to visit. I visited this last week and it was fall colors galore. The foliage was beautiful and amazing. The weather was crisp and perfect for visiting. We came from out of town to visit for the weekend. I had such a good time with my fiancé. We had came in September, but we didn't have time to see this national park. But the second time we came we came to this national park first because we had wanted to see this park so badly. It didn't disappoint either. It was breathtaking, amazing, peaceful, and just something you wouldn't want to miss. I would suggest to wear some comfortable shoes, the top half of the over look is accessible for wheel chairs. But the second half is where you get closer, is not wheel chair accessible. It's all rocky and a lot of climbing and unsteady for someone is who could be in a wheelchair. Overall would suggest it, and there are tons of little paths you can hike as well while you are there too!

Places like this don't get reviews very often, but they really should. As someone who loves to travel, explore, and have new experiences in life I value these types of reviews. So if you ever find yourself in West Virginia you have got to stop at Grandview State Park. The views are spectacular and the hikes are amazing. It's a great little pit stop if you need to stretch your legs for a spell while on a road trip. It's only about 5 miles off the interstate so not too far out of the way to at least stop and look at the Mountain views.

How's that for some truth in advertising. I was driving all around the New River Gorge one weekend, and I came here about 90 minutes before sunset. I had intended to hike, but I couldn't determine if I could make it in daylight so I decided to focus on the viewpoints mainly. Good thing I did, because when you're playing the mental highlights reel those will be the ones lodged in your brain. I started off with the Main Overlook, and talk about an opening act. What a beautiful scene! You've got a horseshoe of the New River in front of you, going around a forested mountain. There are lovely sites all around the New River Gorge, but let me say that this may be the single most lovely of them all. I then walked the Castle Trail, though to be quite fair I didn't quite get much out of it. You do get to see some of those "walls" that you see along the NRG, which have their appeal, but after you've seen one of the Grand Views of your life it's a little unfair to compare anything else. I then drove out to Turkey Spur Overlook (which feels a lot longer than 1.6 miles away, but I trust the NPS) and after missing a turn when the road forked I made it there. I was the only one out, and a brief rain had come and gone while I was on the Castle Trail, so by the time I ascended the stairs and took on the overlook I had this otherworldly scene. The sun, which had been hidden the entire day, finally blasted out in its dying minutes of the day, so you had this mixture of mist and intense light from the setting west behind me. It was as euphoric as the first view, when the awesomeness of nature makes itself manifest before your eyes and your eyes only. I was staying in Fayetteville near the bridge, and it is a bit of a drive to make it out this way. And there's certainly no shortage of fun things to do over there. But you owe it to yourself to come out here regardless - it's not a complete trip otherwise.

WV has so much natural beauty and abundance to offer! Our national and state parks have activities like easily accessible campsites and waling trails for family vacations or rock climbing and backpacking for the more rugged adventurer. Ski in the winter and go whitewater rafting in the summer!
