Granja M. Viader - Gastro Obscura

"It’s Barcelona, in the late 19th century, and you’re craving a glass of milk. Where do you go? Most likely you’ll head to a granja. In Catalan, the word means “farm,” but it also eventually came to refer to businesses that sold milk, typically with cows on-site. M. Viader, founded in 1870, is one of Barcelona’s oldest granjas. It’s also one of the city’s most progressive. Realizing the sanitary downsides of having cows in their increasingly urban backyard, the early owners bought a farm at the city’s edge, and created a small factory that made cheeses and other dairy products that could be brought into the city. As such, they were forerunners of milk preservation and packaging, and in 1931, they created Cacaolat, allegedly the world’s first bottled chocolate milk, a product sold across Spain today. Today, M. Viader retains an Old World feel with ancient floor tiles and vintage furniture and signage; the plaque out front indicates that it’s been recognized by the city for these elements. They serve what many consider Barcelona’s classic crema Catalana, Catalonia’s silky cousin to crème brûlée. The dish takes the form of a rich, sweet custard, made aromatic by the addition of lemon zest, and topped with a burnt sugar crust. Friendly staff will coach you through the process of breaking the glassy crust with your spoon and taking a spoonful that includes both the custard and those crispy shards. Another Catalonia-specific item available here is mel i mató, cottage cheese served drizzled with honey and topped with walnuts. Know Before You Go Like many businesses in Spain, M. Viader closes for a siesta between 1:30 p.m. and 5 p.m." - Diana Hubbell

"A fifth-generation family-run establishment, Granja M. Viader feels like a Spanish take on the traditional American diner. Known for their pastries and thick hot chocolate, and traditionally dressed waiters (white button down, black tuxedo vest, and bow tie), this spot is best for a special treat kind of a breakfast. And if you don't have time for a sit-down meal, you can also order bakery items to go. "

Tried churros with chocolate, crema catalana, and mel i mató at a charming old Spanish café — and every bite was unforgettable. The churros were perfectly crisp and paired beautifully with rich, velvety chocolate. The crema catalana was smooth and aromatic, while the mel i mató was light, fresh, and delicately sweet. The cozy, authentic atmosphere made the whole experience feel truly special. A must-visit for dessert lovers!

Google
It was literally the best store I’ve visited in Barcelona. First of all it’s not a tourist trap, it’s an old and authentic Spanish cafe with great savory and sweet options. Definitely try the crema Catalana. The staff was very polite and opened to suggest and explain. Lowest prices for good quality products. That’s why most of the clients are locals.

Al Stoffa

Google
Just off Las Ramblas and a bit hidden but a wonderful find. The hot chocolate is perfect for dipping churros, not too sweet. Other treats are great too. Good, prompt service. Don't miss this place.

Google
Barcelona vibe!! The best hot dark chocolate & churros in the City Center. Traditional Catalan coffee shop with so much delicious food to offer... a great spot not to be missed!!

The Mechanick

Google
But noisy place but with a pair of headphones all is good. The food is more than decent, and the service is great. They do speak English which is a plus. And the decoration is outstanding! I can’t imagine how it could be any better.

Google
One of the Spanish ladies was super kind and friendly The flan de mato was very good, basically a ricotta-like texture The hot chocolate is very bad. It's thick, almost custardy in texture but severely lacks chocolate flavour. Given how they're famous for drinks and snacks im afraid this is alr the standard for these things in barcelona

Google
This is an old and traditional cafe in the center of Barcelona. They keep all the details and decorations from the past, and it feels so good having coffee inside. The prices are ok and quality also not bad. They became famous because of their milk chocolate in the past and they still have it and even use in as a decoration.

Google
This place is just perfect to start your day! There’s such a big variety of both sweet and savory options. I tried some of the sweet treats and was very satisfied—they were absolutely delicious. The cacaolat with cream was amazing, and the staff is fantastic. Truly the best spot around!

Yelp
Super busy place, staff was very friendly, and the lighting made the place look very cozy. we ordered the creme brûlée, the chocolate and the churros, then a foie gras cheese toast. The chocolate is very rich, and kinda bitter comparing to the ones we had in other places, but they put a ton of sugar on their churros, so it balances out, only when u drink the chocolate by itself, it's not that good, prob the one with whipped cream on top is better. The crème Brûlée has a very awesome layer on top, and it's BIG. It's very very cinnamon-y, im not a big fan of it. The toast was not good in my opinion, but my partner likes it in the end.

Yelp
Las Ramblas can be tiring and you may want something to pick you up mid-day or as the sun goes down. May I suggest Granja Viader, they've been around for over 150 years, mind boggling, I know!! We came here twice (similar to Cuitat Comtal) because we loved it so much the first time. By the way, don't go for the free churros at your hotel, save your calories for coming here because you won't be disappointed. The churros were crisp and nice and hot. This was perfect with our hot chocolate with whipped cream. I'd skip the lady fingers (Melindros cookies), they were fine but didn't strike me as being special. Now the Crema de Catalana was spectacular, with that hard top shell of carmelized sugar and the not too sweet cream underneath. The flan with whipped cream was very good too, so I would have that as well. I love the ambiance and the feeling of tradition and greatness whilst eating here. Not too far from Las Ramblas, just a few turns here and there before you find yourself staring at a dessert GOAT..

Yelp
I came here this morning at 10:00, and it was already busy. Definitely a tourist spot. We didn't have to wait for a table, and the service was good. Different servers checked in on us a few times to see if we were ready to order. We ordered black coffee, Majorcan milk, crema catalana, and mata with honey and walnuts. Our server forgot to put in our order of crema catalana, so there was a little wait for that. The mata was intriguing, with a texture reminiscent of firm tofu and a subtle flavor enhanced by the drizzle of honey. The crema catalana, while silky and with a light citrus flavor, was a bit too gooey for my taste, akin to yogurt. The Majorcan milk was interesting because it was citrusy and sweet. I ordered it only to try, but I wouldn't get it again. Although Granja Viader is renowned for its churros con chocolate, a popular choice among most patrons, I decided to opt for the crema catalana. However, I believe there are better places outside this touristy area to enjoy churros. It seems that many customers are drawn here by the convenient location, rich history, and the churros con chocolate. If churros are what you're after, I would recommend exploring other options outside the area.

Yelp
We walked into this time machine well into the golden years of when food wasn't just food but well curated with phenomenal service. I had the cream on the cocoa lat and boy was it so heavenly. We came back for the chocolate which was very rich and tasty. The waiters are so charming, and fun! We'll return to Barcelona just for this even if we toured everything in the city!

Yelp
Churros, lady fingers, chocolate, sandwiches, yogurts, cheeses, and cremes. About average compared to other churro shops in the area but it has plenty of seating and restrooms.

Yelp
Granja M. Viader is a classic café that has been an anchor in this little alley near La Boqueria market. This mainstay shop takes care of you in the mornings and even has a deli with sandwiches. The xurros here are crispy and just the right amount for breakfast. Take care to order a cup of the hot and thick dark chocolate and whipped cream. Your xurro will thank you for it. Or rather, your stomach will thank you.

Yelp
Rude young waitress. We ordered a chocolate croissant and she brought a teacup filled with chocolate. Then says we don't have chocolate croissants. Huh?!
google avatar

Julia D.

Yelp
We ducked into this place because it was raining and we wanted a quick and easy snack - and because churros are always the answer. The place is cute and has kind of diner vibes. We ordered churros and chocolate but only got the churros (honestly could have been an ordering error since we weren't confident in our speaking skills), so then had to order chocolate. When we initially ordered the woman was pretty short and curt with us, but as tourists we kind of expected to be treated differently. When we tried to reorder the chocolate I tried to order from a different waiter but he told us we had to order from the not as friendly gal. When I asked for the side of chocolate she smirked, but quickly got it for us. I'd say the churros were fine, the service was not fine, but this definitely hits the spot if you just want a quick churro in BCN.

Yelp
Decided to stop in after eating at la boquería as I was originally looking to get some coffee. Happy to have found this place as it is just off Las Ramblas and was not too crowded when I got there in the morning. Once I arrived, I was promptly seated with a menu, and ordered an americano and crema catalana which came out within a few minutes. The crema catalana tasted just like a big creme brûlée and I liked the fact that it had a nice spice/cinnamon kind of taste in there. The brûlée part was nice and crisp and offered a nice balance in texture to the cream. Perfect complement to the americano which I drank straight. Noticed people eating churros con chocolate so I'll prolly have to try that next time I'm in. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be back when in the area.

Yelp
We stopped by Granja Viader after our dinner as we wanted some sort of desserts...and churros and chocolate from one of the oldest churros places in Barcelona seemed like a good idea. And we were not disappointed! I think we arrived 15-20 min before they close for the night...but we promptly ordered chocolate (iced and cold...just coz we wanted to try both), churros and some creme catalan (creme brulee) and they prices were very reasonable ... probably just around €10! With a little bit of generous tips...the staff let us grab a table and stay a little bit longer into the night than kicking us out promptly at their closing time while they cleaned up. We pretty much had the whole place for ourselves..nice and intimate place! A couple that came in a few minutes after us were sadly turned away though....so...don't try to come in super close to closing time like we did! The desserts were good! I liked that the chocolates and the creme brulee were rich but also not overly sweet. The churros were fried hot and fresh...they were crunchy bunch of crispy dough that were fun to dip and eat with chocolate!

Yelp
Churro was not fresh, stale. Chocolate has no personality and water down. After I had San Gines in Madrid, I was excited to come here to enjoy the local tasty breakfast. What a disappointment here.

Yelp
A lot of things have shifted in Barcelona since 1870 when Granja Viader first opened its doors on Carrer Xuclà just a skip away from busy La Rambla. Throughout every new trend, economy, political situation, or war, Granja Viader has thrived. A plaque at the entrance marks this role Granja Viader plays in the history of the city. Granja Viader is famous for more than just being famous ... and old. It's also the birthplace of the popular Cacaolat chocolate drink and home to specialties like fresh Mató cheese, Mallorcan pastries, Swiss chocolate, and Xurros (churros). We came for breakfast and left happy. * Mel i Mató amb nous (Mató Cheese and Honey with Walnuts) This creamy tangy cheese will not be for everyone, but it was so filling and memorable with sweet honey and crunchy walnuts. * Cacaolat amb nata (Cacaolat Cocoa Drink with Whipped Cream) This isn't my favorite chocolate thirst-quencher of all-time, but it was totally cool to enjoy a tall glassful at THE place that first served it. * Tassa de Xocolata Desfeta (Hot Dark Chocolate) This actually may be my favorite chocolate drink of all-time ... because I didn't drink the dark thick chocolate and instead dipped churros in it like a kid. * Catalana Cold Meat Baguette There are probably better meats to choose, so, get one with higher quality because the bread was soft chewy deliciousness. * Cafè amb Llet (Coffee with Milk) No morning and most afternoons in Barcelona are not complete without a cup of coffee or espresso. Breakfast at Granja Viader was no different, but was satisfying. * Xurros (aka Churros) ... Got one order ... got another ... and then a third. They're small ... they're warm ... and they're delicous just sprinkled with real sugar or as a companion for the hot chocolate. Granja Viader lived up to its historic and grand reputation as a destination spot near the Gothic Quarter and La Rambla.

Yelp
This cafe was supposed to close at 10pm - we came by around 9:25pm and were told they were closing in around 20 minutes. It was weird because at 30 minutes before closing, the back kitchen was being cleaned up and they had shut down half of the tables. My coffee was average, standard. We got the churros which were served hot but were kind of hard and blah. Not sure if they fried them fresh (doubt it) or more likely just reheated some older churros made earlier in the day since they were getting ready to close. Moral of the story: maybe don't get the churros here, and if you want to come then come at least an hour before closing.

Yelp
Granja Viader is the place to go for Churros with Chocolate. The churros are soft with a light crispness and sweetness. Pairing the churros with chocolate is a must! The chocolate is rich, thick and lightly sweet. I also tried a Magdalena which was crumbly, soft and sweet. Granja Viader is a must visit when in Barcelona.
google avatar

Gaby F.

Yelp
It's true. They are worth the visit. It is such a cozy place. Their churros are simple and simply delicious. Crunchy!!! One cannot go wrong with crunchy. And their prices are for "comer hasta enfermar y ayunar hasta sanar." = (eat until you get sick and fast until you feel better). I could not believe my eyes when I saw the bill. This is not a fancy place but the service is sort of grandma-will-be-the-one-taking-care of you service and what they offer they make it right. You won't regret dropping by here.
google avatar

Yelp
Now this is what we meant by churros con chocolat! Walking in as soon as they opened, there were already some regulars there & we knew we'd found our goldmine Cappuccinos were slightly sweet and had a good coffee to milk ratio - added our leftover chocolate at the end & had a little mocha Churros and Chocolate dipping sauce. The churros were fresh out of the fryer & made to order Light, crispy on the outside & soft on the inside - these were perfection! The chocolate was slightly sweet, nicely thick & provided the perfect pairing If you're looking for the best, you want to come here to Granja Viader!

Yelp
My wife absolutely loved this place but it did not do as much for me. It is rather interesting that you can purchase an assortment of fresh cheeses while also buying fresh pastries. We had to have some churros and chocolate while we were there and they were good, but in all honesty I have had better. The pastries that we purchased which we enjoyed later on our train ride were very good.

Yelp
Tourist trap! Saw this place on some travel show and they made such a big fuss about the churros con chocolat so I figured they were some sort of a must have when in Barcelona. Got there rather early when it wasn't so busy. No one greeted me and I got the impression you just seat yourself. Ordered the famous churros and was not impressed. They were tiny, COLD and hard as a rock. I tried getting my waiters attention but he just ignored me so I got up and went towards the kitchen and asked if they were supposed to be so hard? Needless to say, they gave me another batch, warm but still not nearly something to brag about. The chocolat was ok, not sweet and just meh. I took my touristy instagram pics and wanted to just leave. There's seriously way better places in the area. Do yourself a favor and just skip this one.

Yelp
Best churros in Barcelona! So delicious!! Unfortunately I did not have the chocolate syrup but my friend did and said it was thick, rich and delicious!

Yelp
Items Selected: Hot Chocolate Churros Pa de Pessic Crema Catalana Originally opened in 1870 on Carrer d'en Xuclà, at that time a dairy and only to become Granja M. Viader in 1910 under a the ownership of a man named Marc who subsequently turned the space into a workshop, kitchen and counter that spawned several locations and pasteurization facilities before the wars, those visiting Barcelona in 2017 will find the current store near the Museum of Contemporary Art much like an American deli, the small made-to-order menu served alongside cases filled with a variety of Meats, Sweets and Cheeses. Previously a favorite of the likes of Pablo Picasso and other poets and artists living in the area, their Milk and Eggs still brought from Cardedeu and several Cheeses and Creams made on site, it is with invitations from staff that guests are invited to sit down at low tables surrounded by relics and old photos, the menu available in several languages featuring several enticing choices though on this particular day the housemade Horchata was unfortunately sold out. Doing an impressive job of listing allergens and ingredients by way of symbols on the menu, everything from Gluten and Dairy to Sulfites and Soy included, it was after a bit of perusal that the decision was made to order five items which were delivered to the table in less than ten minutes, two orders of Churros piping hot from the fryer and ready to be dipped into thick Dark Chocolate - though actually quite good and surprisingly light beneath just a hasty shake of Granulated Sugar. Moving next to a dish listed as "Pa de Pessic," the translation as suggested by Google simply "Spongecake," what arrived from the kitchen at Granja M. Viader for €1.80 was instead a fluffy sort of fried Pastry something like an American "Elephant Ear" topped in Confectioners' Sugar, the interior wispy with good yeastiness while a large dish of Catalan Cream was served room temperature, creamy and sweet with a touch of bitterness from the just-torched Sugar.

Yelp
This place is amazing. We came all the way from Colorado and it did not disappoint! Very family owned and a rich history!

Yelp
came in on a saturday morning around 11a, there were open tables and I was greeted and seated promptly. I was asked whether I preferred a spanish or english menu so they have the option for tourists. Once my orde was taken, I was served within five minutes: I ordered an espresso, the chocolate, churros and the cheese with honey and walnuts. Everything was delicious- the churros were warm and crunchy, I ate them by dipping them in the chocolate, which was the perfect amount of sweet.

Audrey Y.

Yelp
we came here 30 minutes before they closed, but the service was super fast. although, the servers didn't seem the most welcoming. we order churros, melindros con chocolate and cacaolat. we enjoyed the churros. personally, we didn't like the melindros but that could have been a personal thing. the chocolate was thick and rich. but the churros were also a bit disappointing, as they were not crispy and doughy. and i didn't drink the cacaolat but my sister said it was good.
google avatar

Quin W.

Yelp
I thought this place was just okay and not as good as it's hyped up to be. The churros and hot chocolate were good but I wished it were sweeter. The hot chocolate itself had almost no sweetness. We also ordered the crema catalana, which is kind of like a cream brulee. I was expecting it to be hot but it was actually cold. I also personally don't like too much cinnamon so the top was too cinnamony for me. Overall I wouldn't go out of my way to visit.
google avatar

Yelp
Cafe Granja Viader a very locals place and does take a bit of an effort to find it. It's been in business since 1870 and this family boasts of being the first dairy business to bottle and distribute milk in Spain. Gayle and I found this old and cozy place via the Rick Steves' Tour Book. We both really enjoyed the rich drinking chocolate and with churros for dipping. The coffee (solo for me and con leche for Gayle) were tasty, as were the muffins and croissants.

Yelp
Found in an ally just off of La Rambla, this place is famous, I forget why, and my visit did not enlighten me as to a reason it would be famous. Ordered the hot chocolate and churros. The churros were cold and terrible, the chocolate was nice. Thick and of high quality. Also ordered the creme Catalan, which was nice as well. The service, like many Spanish restaurants, was pretty bad. Two stars because I came for the churros and chocolate and it was a sad disappointment.
google avatar

Erica L.

Yelp
Being in Barcelona, I wanted to try a least one churro and chocolate place. This was recommended as "one of the best" by a local blogger on his post. The first time we tried to go here, it was too close to closing time and they didn't serve any more churros then. The next day, we were able to make it in before they closed for the afternoon. You get 4 small circular churros per order. They were okay, not warm, and just slightly crispy. I enjoyed the small dark chocolate without cream, which was really meant for dipping since it was pretty thick to drink by itself. We also tried a dessert with lady fingers, but it wasn't very memorable. Service was good. The place has been around for a long time judging by the antique-looking decorations and photos on the wall. Also nice that it's off in a small, quiet alley away from the hustle and bustle of the nearby Boqueria market.
google avatar

Allison S.

Yelp
We heard about this from numerous sources so we knew we had to try it on our visit. It took a little bit of tracking down because it's located in a small alley, and make sure you check the hours. (We headed to the boqueria afterwards since it is walking distance.) We shared their churros and hot chocolate dipping sauce and an iced latte (because it was so hot out!). The hot chocolate is not too sweet, which is super important, and the churros are nice and crispy. We actually really liked it until we had Angelina's in Paris. It is nice to check out the history of the place and I would say it is worth a trip if you are in the area.
google avatar

Nga N.

Yelp
I came here because this is Albert Adria's (of Tickets) favorite bakery. If the most famous chef in the world says this is the place to be then yes I will try it. Unfortunately, I only had stomach for enough churros and hot chocolate. Wish I got to try more though. The churros were good. Way better than what we had in Madrid but they weren't mind blowing. The hot chocolate is very different here. They are thick and almost like a mousse. It weren't too sweet but pretty good and different.
google avatar

Lynn V.

Yelp
Cute charming cafe tucked away in an alley near La Ramblas. We went here first thing in the morning before starting our site seeing in Barcelona. The cafe is clean and fairly large with excellent service. Their churros and chocolate were amazingly delicious!! And such a fair price. We were blown away by it! Even better was their Crema Catalonia. It's a must try here. Delicate in texture with just the perfect amount of sweetness. I love!!
google avatar

Suzie L.

Yelp
Went to this cafe after seeing all the rave reviews. At first glance, this place looks like a cafe and a deli mixed into one. Very old school decoration and interior. We ordered the chocolate with cream, churros, and the crema catalana. The hot chocolate was pretty lumpy and tasted a little bland. The whipped cream didn't really help the chocolate either. The churros were pretty good. The crema catalana was pretty tasty. It had a cinnamon flavor, which reminded me of horchata. However, the sugar was too burnt which gave the whole dessert a bitter flavor throughout. Compared to San Gines in Madrid, this place unfortunately did not live up to my expectations. Not so bad, but would probably not come back to this place.
google avatar

Ryna D.

Yelp
Me encanta! I read about this classic churreria on AFAR so when I found myself back in Barcelona a few months ago I decided to check it out. The place is clearly a decades old favorite of locals as would be evident if you stop by during breakfast hours. Tables are first come first serve and a short queue may be there during peak morning hours but turnover is pretty quick. I came twice during my last trip, once on my own and the second time with my boyfriend when he arrived a couple days later. Order a small cup of Spanish hot chocolate, a couple orders of churros, and espresso. If you are coming later on the day and specifically for sweets then the crema catalana is also good. The staff don't speak much English but ordering is easy enough. Viader and Dulcinea were my two favorite spots I tried on this trip.

Laura K.

Yelp
The waiter was unfriendly and was not helpful. We ended up getting something we didn't want. Stale croissants. Skip this place.
google avatar

Mileivys L.

Yelp
This place is cute and locals come here. It's been open since 1930's and has great reviews on google. I came here for hot chocolate since the weather is 38F outside. The hot chocolate is not what I had in mind. It's like hot thick, creamy and just chocolate. I don't believe it has milk. The staff was kind and the place was clean.
google avatar

Nisha S.

Yelp
Our tour guide told us this is one of the oldest places for churros and hot chocolate so we decided we had to come here. The churros were light and crispy. If you go with a few people, I recommend that you get your own plate of churros and share the chocolate as it is very thick and rich. When I went with my family, we all got our own and barely finished half of the hot chocolate. We were also expecting the chocolate to be sweeter as the churro wasn't as sweet (once all the sugar falls off). My dad got the cold coco drink with whipped cream and liked it but said it was essentially chocolate milk
google avatar

Brad S.

Yelp
We wanted to try the xurros con chocolate in the place where it all started and were not disappointed. Great vibe, you can really feel the history of the place and the chocolate, the burros, coffee and majorcan milk were a nice late afternoon break. It is definitely worth a visit!
google avatar

Anna J.

Yelp
Very cute and original café, worth a visit for the cozy vibe, professional and old-school service, and delicious treats. The snacks and drinks are not overwhelming or super fancy - but it is all good, and not very expensive. The xurros are sweet and crunchy as they should be, and the tea and coffee is standard. The cheese toast is very simple, but very good! This historical place is for sure worth a visit for a morning or afternoon break.
google avatar

Jason B.

Yelp
So when I visited Barcelona recently, I had to try their churros with a Suiza (a rich, decadent hot chocolate served with whipped cream on top). It was a perfect mid day treat after meandering through the Gothic Quarter. The place is small and quaint. It was almost completely packed, but that's a good thing! The servers were very attentive to everyone. I would definitely come back next time I am in the area again.
google avatar

Özüm A.

Yelp
The place is really cute and always busy with customers. But that's because they are very successful. I think it was the best churros we've had in Barcelona. The prices are perfectly cheap.

Sophie M.

Yelp
The atmosphere at this place was nice, we were seated quickly in the morning. When we asked for a menu our waiter refused, saying that he would tell us everything then rambled off a vague list, completely forgetting to mention the churros which they are supposedly known for. Maybe it was a Covid thing they were trying not to give out menus but a lot of other tables were given them? Hot chocolate was watered down, cold and had a weird texture. The croissant was stale and dry but cappuccino and churros were decent! Would recommend for the vibes but definitely not the best.
google avatar

Yelp
Quaint time capsule , family run since 1870. They boast the first dairy business to bottle and distribute to in Spain. We had breakfast here and it opens late like 9am. I tried llet mallorquina (Majorca- style milk with cinnamon, lemon, and sugar). Got an apple cake too. Did not try there fresh cheese with honey which is suppose to be very Catalan.

Yelp
The locals recommended this place for the infamous Spanish combo of churros and chocolate. In operation since the late 1800s, this place is like a step back in time with white shirt and bow tied waiters and a mix of locals as well as tourists. The chocolate was nice and thick, not overly sweet and the churros were fresh out of the fryer, so much so they were almost too hot to eat when they arrived at the table. If you go, beware of the traditional hours of 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. If you're looking for a late afternoon churro and chocolate break, you'll be out of luck.

Yelp
Hands down the BEST hot chocolate - went to three different places. If you like milk chocolate you'll probably say "it's not sweet enough". I'm a hardcore chocolate lover. Give me no less than 85% and I really enjoy 100%. Bought some of their chocolate mix and going to have it over the holidays! I hate to say this, but this is the least favorite place that I had churros. They are on the thinner/narrow side. They spoke English and the service is friendly.

Yelp
Very good! We had the hot chocolate with the whipped cream. It made it less thick but the flavor was good. Churros were great!

Yelp
I came in here after walking around La Rambla and ordered a small little treat for myself. This chocolate was huge and churros were the perfect sweet taste. Overal savory quality. This order was super budget price as well. It had a traditional diner ambiance. Such a charming little spot to relax & converse.

Yelp
Delicious churros and hot chocolate in an amazing setting. Friendly and fast staff and all the other things we tried were yummy as well. Will definitely come back

Yelp
The first time my husband and I tried to swing by there was a line out the door. I make it a general rule not to wait on such lines. This happened to be on a Thursday (actually, it was on Thanksgiving). It was early though - like maybe around 6 or 7pm, pre-dinner. We decided to continue back through the Gothic quarter to see another cathedral, then head to dinner, going back to Granja Viader after for dessert. It was the right decision. NO line. Even better - there were tables available. So maybe it was about 8 -830pm and they close at 9pm. The upside: places like this with crowds in and out all day churn out the chocolate and churros all day long. So you know what you're getting is FRESH! And while these were definitely fresh items, they weren't the best we'd had on our trip. We enjoyed them, yes, but we had some seriously delectable hot chocolate in Madrid. Not to mention La Ventana in the Gothic Quarter. Oh my. The downside: this place isn't far from La Rambla, one of the largest tourist spots in Barcelona. So, you'll get loads of tourists here. The goal is to time your visit right - so you're not waiting on aforementioned LONG lines. Sigh, I love Spain - a true chocoholic's delight!

Yelp
This place was just ok for their churros com chocolate, having had some of the best ones in Madrid. They weren't completely fresh so they were on the tough side rather than soft and chewy. The cafe itself has a classic look and the waiters are friendly though.
