Chicago’s Best Soul Food Restaurants | Eater Chicago

"What was once a Lithuanian neighborhood in Chicago Lawn is where you’ll find Granny B’s. This unassuming soul food restaurant is quaint, but adored by the locals. Aside from the standard soul food dishes you’re used to, Granny B’s goes the extra mile and surprises you with salmon specials like croquettes." - Ashok Selvam

Don't waste your time and money. My husband and I ordered take out today and I must say is the worse breakfast and I am very disappointed. I ordered a Denver omelet with bacon added and swiss cheese with hash browns. What I received was not an omelet at all. It was a flat hard egg with ham, onions and green peppers on top almost like a skillet meal but not actually. Since the meat was not cooked with the eggs the so called omelet fell apart. The egg was so hard that you cant even chew and they did not add chesse so everything was falling apart. No bacon added to the omelet and i received 3 strips of bacon on the side. They did not follow instructions at all. The toast that came with the meal was not toast it was just 2 slices of bread. Our hasbrowns were either over cooked or old food and they were soked in black pepper. We were unable to even eat them. My husband ordered salmon crochet and he was unable to even chew them because the were extremely hard and rubbery and we just had to throw our food away and just go home to cook ourselves to get better resulet and fresh food. I hate that we did take out and did not see or taste the food until we made it home. We spent $35 and i will not do that again. I should have known when we walked in the restaurant that there were a lot of people sitting at the tables drinking coffee but NO ONE was eating any food. And No one was ordering any food but my husband and I. That's was my first sign and I should've just left.

The woman at the front didn’t seem very happy to have new customers:( , the coffee cups were little less than 6oz and getting a refill was like interrupting her day at the mostly well basically empty except for us diner….other than that the food was quickly prepared and it was pretty good…I came from another city to visit and this was the first breakfast place I stopped at…I may return but I’m not quite sure…not much of a friendly environment I guess , either that or I’m just not a regular which I’m my opinion shouldn’t matter.

Now even though this place has changed from back then the heart and good food is still there. I really feel like people take the new ownership for granted. We could've had someone new and try to change the whole establishment with new food and staff. But they still tried and cater to all of us. The prices are way too cheap it's almost criminal. The food is wonderful for the amount you're paying. If people don't like change then stop coming. But appreciate for what it is and what it's tryna stay to be for what we had back then.

4 stars is based off food only...cause the woman at the front have ZERO customer service etiquette. It's 8am and she gave attitude like I did something. Wanted to order more but her attitude was NASTY. Other than that the food is like waking up on a weekend morning at granny's! Very good.

Service was absolutely terrible. Took them 45 minutes to get me a smothered pork chop to go. All the while people that came in way after me kept getting their food at their tables. What kind of service is that? The young lady taking orders didn't provide any updates whatsoever the entire time. Seemed apathetic to even being there. But I've had bad service with amazing food at places before, so I at least hoped the food would save this place. The food wasn't even good. Flavorless and in need of seasoning. The pork chop was 50% bone and tendon, leaving almost no meat. I heard this was a really good soul food joint, but I was severely underwhelmed. I love supporting local businesses, but this place was a huge disappointment. Maybe they were having an off day, but the food wasn't good enough to even justify going back again to find out. There are better food options in the area run by people who care about your business. Go there instead.
