12 Places Around Denver to Devour Pie | Eater Denver

"It’s unlikely that any Denver pie shop can match the selection at Granny Scott’s. The shop makes over 30 varieties of pies, which range from standards like pumpkin and cherry to more unique varieties such as Swiss chocolate mousse and grasshopper, which is made with crème de menthe liquor." - Paul Albani-Burgio

I love stumbling upon places like this; a locally owned shop baking homemade pies right inhouse. Seriously, this is how life should be. We made our first visit on Pi Day (March 14), and while the place was packed, the line moved fast. The staff at the counter were all friendly and patient, even with the chaos. Meanwhile, in the back, a couple of people (Granny Scott herself, perhaps?) were cranking out pies faster than manna fell in the desert. We went with an apple pie, a berry pie, and a peach pie. All were fantastic, but the apple pie took the gold. Perfectly spiced, flaky crust…everything you dream of in a pie. If the Garden of Eden had a dessert menu, this pie would have been on it. They also serve coffee, tea, ice cream, and more. Since it was later in the day, we passed on the caffeine, but next time, I’m making the trek to Lakewood for a fresh slice, a hot coffee, and a quiet reminder that this is what it means to savor life. Moses highly recommends Granny Scott’s, and honestly, if the Israelites had found this place during their 40 year journey, they probably would have just settled in Lakewood.

I love a good homemade pie. I couldn't stop next door for coffee and not check out this bakery. Everything looked and smelled amazing. I bought a half dozen treats for my friends from here, from the lemon poppy muffins to different slices of pie and banana bread. Everything was delicious! 10/10 experience here. I can't wait to come back and try the lunch menu sandwiches and quiche.

Google
This a $9 plus tax and tip gets u at granny scott’s. Ordered the half sandwich was expecting something a little bit thicker or larger than this paper thin tea time sandwich. It wasn’t even the size of the palm of my hand. For $9 at Jimmy John’s or Jersey Mike u get a whole sub. Shame

Google
Just got a couple of slices of coconut cream pie, brought them home and began to dig in… the creamy filling part is very grainy (maybe curdled) and inedible. My friend who is having the other piece says it’s more like a custard texture. Either way, it’s unlike any cream pie I’ve ever had and will not be visiting this shop again. 😔

Google
I LOVE the cinnamon rolls and pies here. I usually stock up on their cinnamon rolls once a week to try to make them last a week but they’re so good I end up eating 4 of them in 2 days! I’ve only eaten their pies, cinnamon rolls and their caramel candy and I’ve loved it. Last time I ate there I ordered a pecan pie slice with a latte to dine in but they didn’t warm up the pecan pie slice so I wasn’t able to enjoy it in the shop. I had to take it home to warm it up in my oven. I would have given this shop 5 stars but having cold pie made my dine in experience disappointing. They do offer a good selection of pies.

Google
Staff was rude and not very helpful. Seemed annoyed at my questions. Chicken pot pie wasn't worth the $11. You kind find much better, much cheaper. My slice of Georgia peach pie was thrown away because the sliced peaches were hard as a rock. I was so mad that I couldn't finish it. I tried to email them feedback but my guess is they didn't like it so I was ignored. Totally regret signing up for their rewards as I won't be back. Village Inn is better and they care if their pies aren't palatable.

Google
The staff are always friendly and the pie is amazing! They have monthly/seasonal flavors, which are wonderful. We love the pecan, maple pumpkin, Georgia peach, strawberry rhubarb. Don't miss this gem!

Google
Nice place, good service, had a chicken pot pie with NewYork cheesecake, grilled chicken sandwich, and pecan pie. The pot pies have a very nice flaky crust, with a good amount of meat, not overfilled with veggies. The pecan pie is not overly sweet. Our order was filled correctly without any mistakes. The floors and general areas were properly cleaned. The tables were wiped clean without any sticky residue. It seems that the meat pies are hand-made and they taste like it.

Yelp
Overpriced Small portion sizes Make it a hassle to order a pie People working counter are in slow motion.

Yelp
I felt like I traveled back in space. So grateful for this pie shop!!! So many different flavors I want to try them all one day. I was on a search for a pecan pie for a special birthday and this place had so many since they won 1st place at a national pie championship for their pecan pie! The service was friendly and quick. Parking is free and there's a lot!

Yelp
With a name likely Granny Scott I knew this pie would not disappoint! And I was right! I ordered the pie online for Thanksgiving/ Friendsgiving and was able to select a pickup date and time. When I entered there was a line for pre orders and guy asking for the name on the order. My pie was ready when I arrived. Seamless process. They have a plethora of pies to select from - Berry, chocolate, pecan and more! You can't go wrong with Granny Scott's!

Yelp
My chocolate cream pie was AWESOME! I decided the best way to celebrate PI DAY was have some PIE and what a great decision! Wonder cozy place with beautiful pies, cookies and sweet treats to fit anyone's sweet tooth. Thank you for a wonderful experience! I will definitely be back!!

Yelp
What a great hidden gem. Very cozy and when you first walk into this place is has the smell and sense of being at Grandma's house when she's baking the day away! Strawberry rhubarb and tart cherry pies were good. I can agree the prices may be a bit much and I'd probably local this place all too often if it was cheaper but will be back. Service was good but not overly friendly. Seemed more occupied with what they were doing in the kitchen than providing excellent customer service. Will try again and see if that's a consistent or one off. Overall quality of the pies were homemade and delicious!

Yelp
This restaurant is a local favorite and I've been hearing about it for years. I opted to stop in today and see what all the fuss is about. The staff is extremely pleasant and the food choices are fantastic. True to its name, the pies here are the real surprise. I stopped in with two other people and we ordered "meals" that came with a sandwich, a slice of pie and a drink. I had a tuna sandwich and it was first rate. I ordered it on rye bread and it came with onions, lettuce and tomato. I ordered blueberry cheese pie, the others ordered lemon meringue and a grasshopper. All three pies were incredible. The young lady that made our sandwiches and brought them out to us clearly cares about customers and how she does her job. All smiles and even the presentation of the sandwiches was first rate. You can also get ice cream here as well other types of rolls and treats My only concern with this place and why it's a four and not a five is that it's filthy. I could see all the dirt and dust under the counter and appliances. The glass on the cases needs a hood cleaning and the entire place needs dusted. A table needed to be bussed the entire time we were there but employees just kept walking past it. I wanted to go a three on this but the food and service was just too good. This place needs a thorough cleaning.

Yelp
First time in this past weekend after getting coffee at Bardo's. Didn't realize they not only have a large variety of pies but also other sweet treats, plus ice cream, soups and sandwiches. We picked out a mixed berry pie and it's delicious! The prices are a little high however making a pie from scratch isn't easy! I'd rather someone else make it for me so I'm willing to pay. I would return to try a different pie.

Jenn B.

Yelp
This was the first time coming to the pie shop, as my family and I visit Bardo frequently. We entered the shop and stood at the pies. Never once were we greeted. Then when we asked a question concerning egg allergy not even a smile. And why is nobody talking about the Jo's plantation peanut butter pie name?? Really in 2025. Won't be back.
google avatar

Emily K.

Yelp
Cutest pie shop, tasty sandwiches too! Adrianna gives the most generous pie slices! ;)

John R.

Yelp
Pies that rival my Mom's homemade pies! A wide range of flavors. I have tried several fruit pies and have never been disappointed. This is a great place to get your pies for every day needs as well as holidays. Our family loves the apple, Michigan cherry and pecan. This is a great pie shop!
google avatar

Anne D.

Yelp
They've been around for years. Got the pecan sweet role: excellent. Will return to sample other goodies (and enjoy coffee from the neighboring Bardo)

Yelp
Anytime I spot a Pie shop....I am there. While going to get my new Driver's License I spotted out of the corner of my eye Granny Scott's Pie shop. Using Yelp I found the reviews to be amazing and Heather P's mention that this shop won awards for their pies......I Was There... Nice unassuming shop with nice staff. Pies are great. I purchased the Cherry Pie that had a great crust and great filling: Not cloying sweet but flavorful. With vanilla Ice cream it was delicious. The Mississippi mud pie was great too...but ya gutta luv chocolate. Very rich and decadent filling and nice oreo crust. Pies are not expensive nor bargain basement. I mean in San Francisco three babe pies are probably 50 bucks now...Yikes. They also offer savory pies, and sandwiches.....I might have to drive all the way back to try more. Great place.

Yelp
First time in here. The staff was made up of 3 sloppy employees who clearly don't care about making Granny Scott look good. Tried making friendly conversation with the guy asking what was the best sandwich and specialties. He looked at me like he was very confused and never read the menu before. After making sure the blonde girl finger brushing her fingers through her hair behind the counter wasn't the one making my sandwich I ordered a BLT. The guy clearly never has had a BLT in his life, asking me if I wanted mustard on it. The bread wasn't toasted, the bacon amount was paltry and no crispness to it all. It's hard to make a bad BLT.....this place succeeded. The whole reason we went was to take a pie to a dinner party. We ordered coconut cream pie. Never had a bad one until this place. Hardly any flavor. This place is terrible and should be checked by a health inspector ASAP. Won't be back, ever.

Jean T.

Yelp
One of our thanksgiving guests bought a pumpkin pie and pecan pie from here to our dinner. The pecan was SUPERB, BUT the pumpkin was inedible. It would seem the baker forgot to add the sugar. It tasted like cardboard with a bitter aftertaste. I hope she is refunded the cost of this pie.

Connie B.

Yelp
We have been eating Granny Scott's pies for over 10 years because they are perfectly satisfying.
google avatar

Jane B.

Yelp
You guuuuuyyyyyssss- this is THE SPOT to get your pies. They also had the cutest aesthetic that just made you feel like you were in grandma's kitchen. The pie was fan-frickin-tabulous and I really want to come back to try some of the other menu items now because, if the pies are that good, I'm sure the rest of the food is also. Don't pass this tiny gem up, it's a treasure and I'm so glad I stumbled upon it.

Yelp
Love the food sandwiches pies soup!!!! Get lunch dinner and dessert! Order ahead or decide there!

David K.

Yelp
Excellent pie, pastries and soups. Good parking and comfortable seating. Big selection of pies.

VanandDiane B.

Yelp
It's a special place. Their sandwiches are wonderful and we have them frequently for lunch. And then there's the pies...what can I say!!

Yelp
My review is solely based on the Georgia Peach Pie. My daughter p/u the pie and made no comment as to the service so I'm going to have to say it must have been average. As it was for my birthday, and nobody else enjoys fruit pies. I was allowed three days to just enjoy this amazing creation. To start: it is pretty to look at. Just a few peaches peeking out. Then the crust was folded over in an amazing sort of way that would give each a nice size piece. If you were an ice cream kinda gal/guy, it would have been great. I prefer'd mine where I just pick the peaches, oh so delicious. Then break off yummy pieces of crust. The perfect pie. My husband does want to come back and get a key lime pie or a chocolate cream pie. So when we try those, I will report back. As for now: ***** for cleanliness, my daughter reported very clean, and as I said, the peach the pie was delicious. Yes, the pies are $30, then again so is a small cake from Whole Foods, a cake from a bakery. And you get what you pay for. Also; this pie was not filled with sugar. Just natural juices and flavors.

Yelp
I was so looking forward to a scratched baked yummy lunch. However I am extremely disappointed in my visit. The baked goods were not fresh. I purchased my fave, lemon bar there was little lemon and lots of dried crust. I paid $8+ for a TINY side salad with 5 small pieces of chicken. I bought 4 cookies, a side salad and empanada which I didn't even eat as it wasn't warmed up and I was going back to my hotel which didn't have a microwave. The entire bill was over $20. The older lady was griping at the lady who rang me up about what she did wrong. It kinda stressed me out as it did the other customers waiting. It was not a great experience which is disappointing because I come to Denver a lot and I was so excited about a homemade pie shop w seemingly good selection! Overpriced and underwhelming!

Yelp
I'm not sure how I've never written a review here when I've been coming here before the holidays the past 10 years! I've never tried their foods so I can't say anything about that, but their pies are amazing. They make them fresh, but once they sell out, they're out. I've tried a couple of their pies but the peach pie is my favorite and has been my staple most of those 10 years. Every time I bring this pie to a family gathering or a pot luck, people are always commenting how great this pie is. Since then, I have introduced many family members, friends and coworkers here. If you're looking to grab a pie for the holidays, make sure to plan ahead or even grab it a couple days before because they'll have a line before they even open!

Jessica S.

Yelp
We special ordered a pecan pie for thanksgiving and it did not disappoint! I was a little worried about the price but it was the best pecan pie we've ever had and we would probably get one again! If you're on the fence remember your dollars and reviews mean so much more to a small business than a corporation. This pie blew Costco's away!
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
Grabbed a key lime pie for my Wife's bday and was very happy with the quality of the food. The key lime was sweet and tart and the whipped cream on top was very good, light, and homemade. Highly recommend stopping in and getting some of their food.
google avatar

Isha J.

Yelp
I was super excited to try one of their famous made from scratch pies. My friend and I got a slice of the apple pie and the lemon meringue pie. Unfortunately I do feel that the smaller size was not worth the price. While is tasted fine, heating up the tiny piece and handing it over didn't really justify coming out of our way to this location. Seeing the other reviews, I'd like to come back and try some of the other pies, maybe I just ordered the "wrong thing".
google avatar

Harry M.

Yelp
If you're in the mood for some delicious pie just like your mom use to make, then go to Granny Scott's! They have all kinds of goodies, but the pie is of course the star. Friendly staff make you feel welcome and right at home. Try the Apple Pie! You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Ugh. I'm sad. My husband is a BANANA CREAM PIE SNOB so I asked a bunch of foodie friends here in CO where the BEST BCP is and they all said GRANNY SCOTT'S! Immediately I emailed asking if the crust they use is Graham Cracker and they said no... So... I called and requested a BCP with Graham Cracker Crust be made for my husband (for his birthday) since we are in the middle of a kitchen renovation so we couldn't make it ourselves. Granny Scott's gladly accepted and the pie was ready when I said I would pick it up and it was super pretty! Before leaving I also snagged two of their chocolate chip cookies. Well. I surprised my husband with his birthday pie and he was super jazzed, taking an extra big piece because he had high hopes... Alas, this pie was NOT up to snuff. He told me that it was a 5 out of 10 and tasted like GAS STATION PIE! Ha! I wish the price tag on this pie compared to gas station prices! Oh well. I had to give it a shot, just kind of wish I ordered/paid for one slice versus a whole pie... As for the cookies though, he rated those an 8 out of 10, which is a great rating for him! So at least there is something good that came out of my journey to Granny Scott's (I don't live close).
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
About the pie: I got the Dutch Apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I'd give it a 6.5 out of 10. It was good, but not earth shattering. Also tried the mixed berry rhubarb, about the same rating. If you're close by this place is definitely worth a visit. But personally, I'd stick to the pie. General: On the positive side: the staff is friendly and attentive. On the indifferent side: the venue feels like a first generation cracker barrel - old furniture and old displays. On the negative side: the cup of soup was a bit overpriced in my opinion and maybe a bit harsh, but they would probably better off with a can of Campbell.

Deanna M.

Yelp
The pies were very good, the crust was super tasty. They have gluten free options which is cool, they were also kind of nice. I got the coconut cream and lemon meringue for my husband's birthday, I don't typically like lemon but they did a really good job. The shop is super cute, btw. Nice homey feeling
google avatar

Raaj T.

Yelp
Decent key lime pie. The store has a cute mom and pop shop feel. They were able to accommodate my request in a short time frame.
google avatar

Yelp
The pays are amazing, and super delicious. Good customer service. I was able to overhear the owner as he was doing a hiring interview. There is a reason why they stay in business for so long.

Suzie S.

Yelp
Omg so good . I enjoyed banana cream and it was a slice of heaven. I have not had the deli sandwiches but heard they are very good. So basically an excuse to concern. Our group enjoyed several pie options and it made for a difficult decision. Good problem to have.

Yelp
I am personally an equal opportunity dessert lover. But my family definitely prefers pie to things like birthday cake. With my sister's birthday around the corner and being new to the area, we had to find a proper birthday dessert. I found Granny Scott's Pie Shop on Yelp and realized we needed to check out this shop right away. Fifteen minutes later, we walked in the door. They seemed to have it all. My husband got worried when the pie we were eyeing left the case, but we quickly realized there were plenty of duplicates ready to go. They basically had everything you could think of from fruit pies to cream pies to cheesecakes to cookies to ice cream. Their cream pies were probably at least six inches tall each! They looked gorgeous and tasted just as good! My husband tried the banana cream pie and loved it! I had my eye on the Almond Joy pie...for next time. We picked a piece of strawberry rhubarb for my stepdad and he was thrilled. Their chocolate peanut butter pie was a big surprise. The Oreo crust was nice with a whipped peanut butter filling (really rich & gooey) coated with a chocolate ganache topping and chopped peanuts. We opted for a full peach pie for the shared option. It was sweet without being overly sweet. The crust was so memorable! It was flaky, but had some body to it. It looked very "rustic" and tasted home baked. We will definitely be back for more pies. Last but not least, we tried the peanut butter and the potato chip cookies. Both were fresh, and the peanut butter was very flavorful while the potato chip was very traditional. Solid choices across the board. I'm pretty sure you can't go wrong with Granny Scott!

Maegan M.

Yelp
I love everything I have ever had here. Their pies and sandwiches are always amazing. It's a small place but has a very homey feel. They always greet you right when you walk in the door. I have been coming here since I was a kid.

Carrie C.

Yelp
Love this place. Have been going for years and always find something wonderful. Cute ambiance and actually feels like my grandmother baked for me.

A L.

Yelp
Dutch apple pie with cookies n cream and a coconut cream pie with cookie n cream. Ice cream is from Lakewood, Magalli's (may have misspelled it). Pies definitely taste natural and not too sweet, just right! However, the ice cream was okay.

Sue P.

Yelp
I had a gluten free pie several months ago and decided to call a week before Christmas to order a gf cherry pie and was told it was too late to order a gf pie. There is nothing on the website indicating what is timely. You cannot order a gf pie online. I did see that they make extra other pies so if you are gf, you are not the customer they are looking to serve.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been to Granny Scott's a few times - don't ask me how I found it, it was a complete accident as it is kind of tucked away in a little strip mall. Granny's pies and traditional mom&pop style and they are goooood. I don't know that I'd "dine-in" the little shop, but I love taking a big slice (or two) of delish pie to-go.

James V.

Yelp
Food was below average this time around. Pecan pie crust was hard, dry, and bland. The filling was fairly good but didn't care much for the molasses after taste. Cherry pie filling was fairly good. The crust again was bland but did have better texture than the pecan pie. Perhaps they are using a cheap processed shortening for their pie crusts?? The toffee cookie was pretty bland with no noticeable flavor off toffee. Again, tastes like a cheap shortening they are using for the desserts. About 2 stars for the food and 4 stars for the service.

Joe P.

Yelp
Great service and amazing pie!!! Will definitely be back when I'm In the area. Had the double crust cherry pie with a vanilla latte!!!

Yelp
After seeing a snippet on MSN about the best apple pie in each state, Granny Scott's being the best in Colorado, I was on a mission! It is not the easiest place to find as the shopping center location is under construction. But find it I did! When you walk in, it feels homey and wonderful like you have stepped back in time. And then you see the cases filled with glorious pies. Ironically, I didn't get a classic apple pie. My husband loves Dutch Apple which is really close to one so I got him a slice of that. I went with a chocolate cream pie slice and a key lime slice for sampling purposes. The Dutch Apple has tart slices of apple that are exactly what should be in a pie, none of that canned apple nonsense. There was a lot of Dutch apple topping which was borderline too much for us. The chocolate cream pie was rich and decadent and I have been eating one slice over the course of a couple days due to the richness. And the key lime is your classic key lime, nice and tart. Service was sweet and friendly and I would say they have earned the accolades they have!

Abbey G.

Yelp
OMG. BEYOND DELICIOUS! Granny Scott rescues my day out!! After I edible Indian food experience she comes thru with take away pecan gooey rolls and this delicious chocolate cream pie. My stomach is happy

Jr L.

Yelp
I am so shocked at what I got for $30...I am all about about supporting small business. I rarely leave reviews, but I had to for this. I got a turkey sandwich and a club sandwich. Both came with a slice of pie and a drink. I also got a piece of fudge. When I got home and opened my order, the sandwich had only turkey and mustard. The club only had meat and mayo. I am so shocked, I don't knew what else to say. I didn't know I needed to be specific adding anything else to the sandwich. The pictures of the sandwiches on the website/Yelp posting include lettuce, tomato and whatever else is on a sandwich. I don't understand how this was $30...I don't know what else to say. LOL is this real life?

Yelp
Really gone downhill in quality & value the last decade. Most disappointing pies the last few times we visited trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. Pie Portions ridiculously small for the price, and it tastes like they rely on sugar or thickeners vs real quality ingredients for true or fresh flavors. We each threw away both our purchases after tasting them.
google avatar

Allie R.

Yelp
Ordered two pies for a holiday gathering and we were very pleased. We decided on the caramel apple and the New England blueberry cheese. The crust was phenomenal. So perfectly flaky. My fiancé ate almost the whole apple pie on his own, and loved every minute of it (LOL)! The price was a bit steep, $46 for the two pies. But we will definitely come back and try out their other flavors.

Lynn V.

Yelp
Recommend, though got sticker shock. But I was assigned dessert for Christmas dinner at mother-in-laws so --it had to be good. Got the blackberry pie. Did not disappoint. MIL enjoys quiche Lorraine and also got her one. It was soo good. Price points here are not King Soopers pies, but quality & taste leave Sooper in the dust. Service was personal, patient & overall darned terrific!

Yelp
I have frequented this shop for years, the fruit pies are excellent and they make wonderful gifts to friends and family; Was hoping to pick up a Stawberry Rhubarb for my in-laws and wasn't sure about availability with Thanksgiving only a few days away. In the past, I could call in, pay for a pie over the phone, and they would hold it until I could drive across town after work to pick it up; This is the way. The "charming gentleman" I spoke with over the phone demanded to know if I even listened to the voice prompts as special orders are not available at this time. I specified that I just wanted to know if there were any available because the commute is far for me and he replied, 'Don't even bother getting in your car then--It's first come, first serve. Now, I baked about a thousand pies for Thanksgiving, I couldn't tell you what we have available. So, if you're not willing to drive down here and see what I have, don't even bother.' What could I even say at this point? "I know you are busy and I understand completely..." Yes, I understand completely because I too have had to work a long and tough schedule around the holidays, I'm sure the people reading this have also. Have the integrity to not give your guests a big middle finger when they are eager to do business with you. Maybe I am in the wrong and therefore, it is my mistake. Never again.

Yelp
Wow! For $25 you get a little slice of heaven. I called all over Denver trying to find a Key Lime pie and this was the place. Easy in, and out. That pie did not survive.

Michael F.

Yelp
Unfortunately not impressed. I am a former baker and cake decorator, so whenever I see a bakery of any kind I find it my sworn duty to stop and make myself fatter. I had seen this shop several times but had yet to go in, so today was the day! I purchased a red velvet cupcake and a slice of New York cheesecake. I'm not sure if this place was just off it's game today (based off other reviews) but both items were far less than I expected. The cheesecake slice was about a third the size of a standard slice, and it was relatively bland with very little crust to balance out the rest. The red velvet cupcake was so stale I ended up throwing it in the trash. I can only assume that I should have gotten a slice of their pie instead, although the surface of each pie gave the impression of something cooked several days ago. Perhaps I'll talk myself into stopping in and trying a cherry or apple pie slice. If I do and they redeem themselves, I will update my review.
