Where to Eat on the Olympic Peninsula

"This cafe near Lake Crescent stands out as a good alternative to the overpriced tourist fare available inside the national park. Granny’s serves classic diner food — biscuits and gravy, patty melts, sweet potato fries — made with care." - Matthew Lombardi, Eater Staff

We camped overnight at Emerald Valley Inn and enjoyed dinner at Granny's Cafe. I got the BLTA with tomato soup. The whole meal was delicious, I particularly enjoyed the soup which was super flavorful! My friend and I split a pie. Not sure I would get another one in the future, they're beautiful, but flavor was a little lacking. The staff was very friendly!

All wins at this lovely little eatery. Service was very friendly. Burgers were delicious and fresh. Pie was outstanding. Lovely chickens roam outside grazing while you eat at the picnic tables. What’s not to love ?

We stop here for pie every time we visit. Granny's pies are amazing! They kindly worked with us to provide a bulk order for our wedding. We were thrilled to be able to share this experience with our guests. Stop by for a pie and don't forget the ice cream! Photo credit @kateholtphotography

One of the off the road, highway diner/cafe we have been to in a while. It is family run business but one of the most professionally cooked food we tasted. We ordered grilled cheese with avocado + onion rings, chicken strips + sweet potato fries. Everything was fresh and was seasoned to perfection!!!! The onions rings were crunchiest and regret ordering only 1.

Visited Mid July 2022 Was one of our favorite places we found on our trip. Nice little stop in between Port A and Lake Crescent area. The food and service was excellent and the people that own/work there were extremely kind! Can’t wait to come back here one day!

This was easily the best burger of my life. In such an unassuming place too. We stopped here after hiking in Olympic and both me and my husband had amazing meals. The animals out back are also such a cute addition! We thoroughly enjoyed walking around and they called us when our food was ready (only 7 minutes!). Don't miss Granny's on your way out or in of the park.

Yelp
Such a cute place and good burgers! Stayed in the Emerald Inn and had a great experience

Yelp
I have very low expectations for food near national parks. I've been to a bunch and many times they are just edible at best. Granny's wins my personal favorite and best national park restaurant I've ever been to. Counter ordering. Got the gouda burger with garlic parm fries. Both were delicious. Juicy burger, just the right amount of toppings, etc. Fries not overly seasoned and just the right amount of crisp. I was impressed. Got blackberry pie a la mode. The vanilla soft serve is better than your average and very smooth / creamy. The pie itself was a decent portion, prob can be shared. I kept saying "not bad" after every bite cuz I couldn't process that my taste buds actually had something good at a national park. My SO kept being like "why don't you just say good?" Yes it is very very good! Would come back!

Yelp
As is the case for a lot of folks, we stopped by this location while at Olympic National Park. The service here was incredibly nice - the woman taking our order was really friendly and provided good details about the various soda options they had. The farm backyard with emus was really cool. The food itself was excellent: the hamburger was incredibly juicy and the bun very tasty. The sauce is on the lighter side - they use a housemade burger sauce with a pretty subtle flavor. I got a float with Marionberry Creme soda: this was incredible. I've never had Marionberry before but it was perfectly sweet for a soda and to go with vanilla ice cream. I'd highly recommend getting this if you want a float.

Yelp
Some of the best burgers and soft-serve ice cream I've ever had. Love the outdoor seating and the surrounding.

Yelp
The pie here is phenomenal!!! I regret suggesting it to my friend to split it. Definitely get your own, and get a side of ice cream. We also had really friendly service, this place is a hidden gem.

Yelp
They truly got the vibe right here! Definitely felt like it could be a granny's house! The staff were the most cheerful staff I've seen in awhile! They have a great business model where you order at the counter, they bring you the food, and you bus the table yourself which... whose granny cleans up after them?! I thought it added a homey feel! I ordered the coconut prawns. They weren't the best prawns I've ever had but they were still pretty good and the orange sauce they came with was delicious! Also ordered the blackberry pie with a small soft serve. Now that, is a must order!

Yelp
Definitely hands down the best food after a long days hike. Didn't get to take pics because we devoured the food but it was amazing. We had a long hike at Olympic and stopped here after just to gain all the calories we had just burned back lol. Well worth the stop. Took some time to get our food but the small little cafe delighted us with its friendly service, flavors, and ambiance.

Yelp
We knew we'd be tired after the Mount Storm Hike, so a cold refreshing soft serve cone sounded amazing to all of us afterwards! - PARKING - Small dirt lot dedicated to Granny's Cafe. Most people took their treats to go, so you'll probably find someone leaving as you're coming in! - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - Cute homey business, not many seats inside. Most people grab n go their food, but there are 4-5 tables available if you're dining in. Once you order, depending what you get, they immediately go to the kitchen to make it for you (i.e cones, floats) and serve it to you after you pay. Very friendly service! They also have a small farm out in the back where they invite you to pet the animals and interact with them. Very unique and fun experience! - FOOD - Small Soft Serve ($2.50): You have a choice between Vanilla, Chocolate, or a swirl of both. For a small, this is a pretty generous amount! I thoroughly enjoyed this cone after the long hike! Nice and sweet, good creaminess! - OVERALL - If you happen to also hike in the area, be sure to stop by Granny's Cafe to grab a treat!

Yelp
Great food every time. I don't know the lady's name who seems to be in charge, but she clearly knows the meaning of "come as strangers, leave as friends". She's very upbeat and helpful. It's not an act. I'm not one to tip over 10%, but based on her personality and the excellent quality of the food, I go a bit higher. I recommend the onion rings. Might be best on the planet.

Yelp
We stopped here during our trip to ONP back in October 2022. It is family owned and managed cafe. We got a chicken sandwich and a chickpea sandwich which were both tasty. The half-and-half ice cream recharged the energy lost in the summer heat. P.S.: Don't miss to take a look at granny's salt and pepper shaker collection. I just love it.

Yelp
Granny's Cafe is the perfect pit stop, whether you're coming back from a relaxing day at Lake Crescent or from a grueling hike at Mount Storm King. I originally wanted to come here just for ice cream but had no idea there would be a full menu with burgers and pies! The restaurant is kind of divided into two sections. The ordering area has a couple of tables but when there's a rush, the seats get in the way of the line so it's best to move over to the roomier section. It's more spacious and has a couple more tables too. If it's not too hot, you can also enjoy your food at the picnic tables outside. I ordered the root beer float and just chose their fountain root beer but you have the option to pick a craft soda from their fridge instead. You can't go wrong with soft serve and it was super refreshing after hiking in the forest! I also got to try some Garlic Parmesan Fries. They're very generous with the garlic oil and we were all trying to soak up the last bits of it with the fries. In the back, visitors are allowed to explore the property and interact with the different animals. They have emus, goats, chickens, rabbits, and a cat. The emus and goats stay in their pens but everything else was just wandering around.

Brooke J.

Yelp
Best blackberry pie. Gotta get the ice cream on top. The burgers are good too. I'm so glad to have lodged here for a friends wedding for 3 nights. Spectacular experience.

Lynn P.

Yelp
It took 50minutes for my food to come out. We ordered right after each other and my friend's food came 20 minutes before mine did... Not a good time nearly waiting an hour for one burger... At least the bathroom was decent.

Stephanie N.

Yelp
Super nice people running it. Wish it was open for breakfast (not till 11am in late may 2024) . I stayed at the Inn. Order at the counter and they bring it over on disposable ware. You clear yourself. Good basic lunch food, limited menu

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic place for a quick lunch! The place itself is so cute with an assorted salt and pepper shaker collection! The inside is quite small with just a few tables, but the service is quick and oh so friendly. We had the fish and chips, chickpea burger, 1/3 lb burger and Cobb salad and finished our meal with the half and half soft service. Everything was delicious and so fresh! The chickpea burger is a fantastic vegetarian option that's unique from all the impossible burgers we've seen everywhere else. The blackberry bbq sauce is delicious; but sweet so ask for it on the side if that isn't your cup of tea or even if you're just not sure. It was fantastic to dip our fries/onion rings in! The fish and chips were some of the best we've had since traveling to Seattle! The Cobb salad was so fresh and the grilled chicken had nice seasoning and was tender. The soft serve was creamy and totally hit the spot for dessert! Overall, the meal was so fresh and made to order. No complaints whatsoever. PS. Make sure to go out back and check out the goats, emu's and other animals!

Nicole B.

Yelp
Friendly staff, hot coffee, talkative goats, and cold ice cream. A charming place to stop!

Lorna F.

Yelp
Great burger with fresh ingredients and wonderful homemade bun. I had a side of homemade tomato soup, great texture and appearance! Took a blackberry pie home, and split it between 3 people. Delicious filling and streusel crumble on the top. Highly recommend this restaurant

Cheyenne T.

Yelp
Mainly came for the mini pies and the twisty icecream. Did not dissapoint. Ordered a smashed burger and chili cheese fries. Fries were OK, burger was decent but def not the best ive ever had. Overall, still enjoyed everything. Definitely a bit pricey, though!

Yelp
After a long day of hiking, Granny's was the perfect place to dine. Service is great, everyone was incredibly sweet. We enjoyed our lunch and the ice cream was delicious. I recommend the fish and chips.
google avatar

Matt K.

Yelp
Folx at the counter and in the back are great. Lots of animals in the back including a Nigerian dwarf goat and lots of fancy chickens. Outdoor seating available. Was originally in Sequim, but with only one dinner options and no meal option for the veg folx, everyone chose instead to drive another hour here. It was worth it! - Tomato bisque (full sized) would be great with bread, only had crackers. Tasted like creamy pizza sauce. 3.5/5 - Chickpea burger Had a nice combo of flavors from bbq sauce to white sauce all around the chickpea. Nice fluffy bun. Cole slaw was classic. 4.5/5 - Blackberry Pie a la mode- 3/5 crust not fully cooked. Berries are pretty good, soft serve isn't bad (a lot of people stopping for the soft serve.) - Cod Burger and Beef Burger: Good, nice. fluffy bun.

Yelp
Stopped by after hiking mount storm king for our post hike lunch. It did not disappoint! Started with dessert first with their signature blackberry pie topped with their ice cream. I got their fish and chips which totally hit the spot. I was too excited for this food that I forgot to take a picture lol. Would definitely recommend this place. Thanks guys!

Lisa G.

Yelp
What a cute little hole in the wall. Much bigger than you would think. The food was really good. Home made and served hot! So many locals stopping in for the ice cream. We heard people saying they had been coming since they were a kid and they were bringing there kids. They have animals outback that you can go see which was kind of fun. The lady who waited on us was so nice. We actually wanted stop by for breakfast on our way home on Sunday. It was about 9:30 and they didn't open until 11. We will be sure to stop there again if in the area!

Andy L.

Yelp
Best food and best service on the Olympic Peninsula, by far. The ambience is super charming, as is the staff. Pies are great, and the chili was superb after a long day of hiking. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Sam F.

Yelp
We go out of our way to get a solid house made veggie burger and excellent, excellent soft serve here- great option out in the woods. Am sure the burgers and milkshakes are solid too. Food is made to order so takes a minute but what's the hurry. Very thankful they made it through the last few challenging years! Keep your order simple, relax, enjoy the mini zoo out back, a unique old school place in a great way. Thanks, Granny's!

Yelp
The review is for the soft serve which was absolutely delicious! I'm a sucker for soft serve and usually prefer it over regular ice cream and boy, did granny's deliver! This place is the definition of a 'hidden gem.' The reviews drew me here on the last day of my trip in Olympic National Park and I only wish I had found it on day one. I would've probably had the soft serve everyday. Due to covid, they only offer takeout right now and your order is taken through a window. We ordered two swirls and one vanilla and everyone was very pleased with their dessert. The guy behind the counter was masked up, friendly, and quickly delivered our beautiful treats. A stop worth making off of 101!
google avatar

Yelp
What a great place! Stopped by on the way back from a trip to the peninsula and Granny's is just family. Ordered at a window and had a great diner style breakfast on a picnic table enjoying the fresh PNW air. BUT that's not all! They have a little animal area in the back with Emus, goats and rabbits. The fam loved saying 'hi' to the animals while we waited for food.
google avatar

Janell O.

Yelp
This is really a 4.5 star review, and the only reason it's not 5 stars is because they are closed two days a week which matters because there's so little in the area. Having Granny's as an option every day would be great! The staff is the sincerely friendly - I love the phrase "what can we make for you tonight?" - It cements the fact that they're cooking you a meal and they care about you. We opted for the fish and chips - very good - and for the coconut prawns - gigantic, excellent dipping sauce. The fries are hot and crisp too. And because it seemed like the thing to do we ordered a warmed blackberry pie - perfect size for two people to share - another delightful and I get the impression regional treat. We also stopped back on another night for ice cream. The cones are HUGE and the price is TINY - on the East Coast Granny's $2.50 small would be a $5.00 medium. Highly recommend! Bonus... they opened up the former eating area as a gift shop, cute stuff!
google avatar

Danka S.

Yelp
Fish n chips were amazing. Staff was friendly and welcoming. The entire place felt like you're at home. Worth stopping (skip Port Angeles and Forks places if you can)
google avatar

Karley C.

Yelp
When we saw this on the side of the road we made it a PRIORITY to stop for a cone. Granny's is where it's at! Their onion rings and cones are just what you need after an afternoon hike at Crescent Lake. Their indoor dining is closed right now, but there are plenty of picnic tables outside. There is a little hobby farm in the back--chickens are also running around the property. Super cute stop!
google avatar

Basil P.

Yelp
The food was decent. The Fish and chips was tasty and a good portion size. The Salad was more than expected for a roadside diner out in the country - with mixed greens, not just iceberg lettuce. The blackberry pie was dry, at the end of the day. I recommend adding ice cream because it was dry. My kids loved the animals, chickens and cat wander the property. The emu and goats are caged behind the restaurant, seemed to like attention from the kids feeding them grass. The animals made the wait for food tolerable- genius!
google avatar

Choua L.

Yelp
Right off the freeway! There is a little parking lot next to the cafe. There are also a few picnic tables next to the parking lot and towards the back of the cafe. They offer food, drinks, and ice cream (which they're supposedly very famous for in the Port Angeles area). We came here just for the ice cream! There is a tiny window on the side where they take to-go orders. We got in line here, and ordered our ice cream! Service was fast, and staff was friendly! The ice cream..... just ok. I think it tasted like any soft serve ice cream. But it was a nice stop and distraction after we left Olympic National Park.

Yelp
Granny's Cafe is a homely, cute cafe off the main road that serves breakfast sandwiches, burgers, and burritos. We stayed at the Inn on the same lot so it was an easy walk. The sausage breakfast sandwich was pretty tasty - definitely wished they added some sauce or gave us some ketchup packets, but a decent price for the area and good value. Lots of locals came by as well while we were waiting, mostly to get their soft serve. Definitely looked like a delicious soft serve that comes in three different sizes. Overall, a good spot on your way to Lake Crescent!
google avatar

Kip M.

Yelp
The soft serve is a long-standing tradition. However, the food is wonderful. there's even some critters in the back into visit

Thomas M.

Yelp
Nice homey and very welcoming cafe! My daughter tried a very cheesy Grilled Cheese sandwich which she loved. When she went for a bit the string trail of cheese left behind was hilarious. My wife had the Granny's 1/3lb Cheeseburger with homemade 1000 island dressing. My wife says it's very savory but lite. I myself had the Blue Mountain Burger. The blue cheese added the right amount of zest to this already savory burger. The Pattie's are handmade and juicy not dry, the bacon was just cooked and not frozen then reheated, the buttery lightly toasted buns had that nice soft to crispy texture. My family and I are definitely looking forward to visiting again.
google avatar

Rose W.

Yelp
We came here just to grab some delicious blackberry pies at $6 a pop. Due to Covid the dining room is closed but we just went up to the take out window and grabbed them to go. The pie was delicious heated up later that night and we could easily eat two!

Bethany C.

Yelp
We loved this place so much we started planning our days around our next meal! Burgers, salads and pies were all YUM
google avatar

Brianne H.

Yelp
Delicious food & everyone was so incredibly helpful and kind. We are here twice and everything we had was delicious. I also tried the local brewed soda and loved it. The animals in the back and antiques in the restaurant were awesome. Everything is freshly made so during peak time the weight is a little long bug worth it. I was a little sad to see they don't offer breakfast anymore. After seeing breakfast reviews I was excited to try their French toast but they now open at lunch. I appreciate that they are open till 7 because so many places in the area close early so it was a nice choice for dinner.
google avatar

Stanley Y.

Yelp
Delicious sandwich and good service, but the wait took way too long and was much past the time they promised.
google avatar

Marie M.

Yelp
Stayed here for 1 night and could not leave without grabbing a blackberry pie for the road. Do yourself a favor and get one. You will not regret it!
google avatar

Jasmine N.

Yelp
the lady behind the counter was very nice. closest thing to southern hospitality i've seen here. the food was amazing and super filling. best part is the animals and sitting areas outside in the back. 10/10.

Yelp
We stopped by Granny's Cafe on our way from La Push, and my first reaction was "darn, the dining room is closed!" Fortunately I quickly realized that they had outdoor seating, and the weather was in our favor, so not a problem. We lined up at the takeout window to place our order, and when we got to the front the first thing we got was an apology for it taking so long. Completely unnecessary, but nice anyway. We ordered and I was happy to realize that they had beer and wine. One of the perks of not driving is being able to have an IPA with your food. So what did I order? I ordered the chili burger with sweet potato fries. The other order was fish and chips. We found a seat in the sun, and pretty soon one chicken turned up. Then another. Then... in total eight chickens turned up. We picked up our food from the dining room door, and then we were about to start eating. At that point it became obvious that the tiny dinosaurs (chicken) really wanted some of our food. I shared some sweet potato fries and there was great rejoicing. Now for the burger. The patty was definitively made in house with nice amount of herbs and spices. The chili also made there was delicious in its own right. Combined it ended up one of the best chili burgers I can remember having. And sweet Popat to fries are sweet potato fries. What more can I say. If there was anything to complain about it's that the fish and chips could have had one more tartar sauce, but what was there was good. Before we left we had a soft serve ice cream which was tasty. And unless you're a glutton, a small is all you need. I will happily stop next times I go back when they are open.
google avatar

Olivere C.

Yelp
If you're in or just going through this area, make sure you stop by Granny's Cafe! Definitely would recommend ordering your ice cream after you eat, if you're planning to dine on the benches. I ordered mine with my meal and I ended by getting another ice cream LOL! I had a cheeseburger with the house sauce and everything with it, and sweet potato fries on the side. I licked the container clean. Just a warning, they have chickens chuckling around. They're not harmful but love food that's fallen on the ground. Also, make sure you don't back up over one.

Mercedes B.

Yelp
We were disappointed at the "new Granny's Cafe". The service was poor at best, the hot beverages are served in paper cups, beer is handed to you in a can, customers bus their own tables, the plastic silverware, sugar, milk, etc. are available if you look for them and get it yourself. The hamburger patties look like a child put them together and the fries taste like they came in a frozen packet. Very very disappointed. Never returning.
google avatar

Elya B.

Yelp
We really enjoyed their food. Had lunch here and breakfast. Everything was very delicious. For lunch I really recommend their chicken and goat cheese sandwich.

Jessica E.

Yelp
A great place. I live a mile away so it's great having a place like that in the neighborhood. Something that always bothered me was the fact that they aren't open 7 days a week. Even in the summer. Food is good with ample portions. A little expensive, but you're paying for convenience.

Nicole K.

Yelp
Best Ice cream cones! A steeple of every child's childhood if you grew up on the north olympic peninsula!!
google avatar

Roma B.

Yelp
The biscuits were fluffy and the gravy was perfectly spiced. The french toast was delicious because of the custard dip. It was a great going to the back and seeing the chickens, donkeys, etc. Our order was ready promptly. They switch from breakfast to lunch at 10:45. We will definitely be back again.
google avatar

Cynthia B.

Yelp
The BEST Ice Cream cones!!! Awesome food! Always a great place to stop for great homemade food. Owners Rachel & Ben are so personable and committed to keep Granny's Cafe an iconic destination!!!
google avatar

Kay M.

Yelp
Stopped by on our way back from Lake Crescent to Port Angeles. Their ice cream cones are soft serve (chocolate, vanilla or swirl) and HUGE!!!!!!! We had a lot of fun looking at their farm animals afterward.

Yelp
We drove by little unassuming Granny's the first day we were exploring Olympic National Park and saw how packed it was! That was our indicator that we needed to check this place out. And we're SO glad we did! Granny's was a highlight of our trip! We stopped in for dinner and were so warmly greeted by the staff and were seated right away. I ordered the chickpea burger and my boyfriend got the cod fish burger. Both were absolutely unreal. DELICIOUS! Of course we had to end with the homemade blackberry pie a la mode (heck yes for homemade soft serve!) and we were drooling. Hands down, one of the best pies I've ever had. That night, we immediately decided to come back again the next day after hiking Hurricane Ridge. While their breakfast ended on the early side, we got lunch - cobb salad and grilled chicken burger. Let me just be honest - I'm STILL thinking about that cobb salad!! We had to end with soft serve (hey, that's what they're known for, right?) and it truly was the cherry on top. The service was impeccable. Their animals outside were adorable. The staff was so friendly. I'll continue to recommend Granny's to friends visiting Olympic and already cannot wait to come back for a hearty meal.
