Granny's Pie Factory

If you're searching for the best banana creme pie in the area, look no further than Granny's Pie Factory! I stopped in recently in search of the best banana creme pie for my father-in-law and ended up leaving with one for my family, as well (Spoiler alert: we ALL loved the pie!). Granny's Pie Factory's banana creme pie is pure perfection; from the flaky, buttery crust, a layer of fresh sliced bananas, smooth, luscious pudding filling made in house, and a freshly whipped cream on top. Every bite is rich with real banana flavor and just the right amount of sweetness. It's comfort food at its finest, and honestly, it's worth a special trip (I live over 30 minutes away). One slice and you’ll understand why locals and visitors alike can’t stop raving. In addition, Granny's Pie Factory has a ton of pies to choose from, so if you're a pie lover, this place is a must-try! Head there now. I also want to shout out the sweet owner who was so kind to add a special and beautiful bow and ribbon and card to my father-in-law's pie; she was so kind and welcoming and again, my father-in-law loved everything so much, he had two slices immediately!

Five of us just had a Granny's blueberry pie. None of us found any whole blueberries in the pie. It was all good, like compote. Two of us had the blueberry pie for a second time and again we were disappointed. Strike two. We would not recommend.

I came here about 10 years ago when I was pregnant with my 3rd child. I look young for my age, especially a decade ago. The elderly woman who I assumed was the owner was so belittling and absolutely patronizing me, making comments about how I can’t be old enough to have kids. She wasn’t being friendly in any manner. I was ordering and said “I’ll take a small Swiss almond chocolate (or whatever it was) then immediately said actually no, I’ll switch that to pumpkin instead” and she goes “nope, they already started making it” I literally switched it with a breath in between, she didn’t even punch the order into the computer, but again, this was about her just being demeaning. I went to pay for the pie that I was now stuck with and she sees me pull out my card and goes “oh no sweetie, we don’t accept card, cash only” they absolutely accepted card, it was just MY card she wouldn’t accept. She told me there was a Bank of America on the School St Plaza (now Dunkin) and she made me go and get cash. Honestly I don’t know why I bothered to come back for it, if that happened now I would have just left and not come back. But…since that was so long ago, I decided to give them another try recently. They accepted my card this time and the new staff working the register was much friendlier and much more pleasant than that elderly woman. I ordered 3 pies and they were just not worth the price in my opinion. The they were okay, they were not great and they cost more than I would ever like to spend on pies again.

The staff is accommodating to requests and friendly. All the pies are well made and delicious--my favorites Swiss Chocolate Almond, with others noted below. Yum

So, on my way to Boston, for some reason I Googled pies in CT. Granny's came up on top of the list. I rerouted my navigation to there location. When I pulled up, It was not at all what I expected. A bit of a dive looking place. Since I was already there I went on in. I ordered the Boston Creme and Banana Creme Pie. They also had an offer for a 6 pack of random slices. I got to my hotel in Boston and immediately tried the Banana pie. Without question the BEST Banana Cream Pie I have ever tasted. Trying the Pecan & apple pie tonight. To top it off, they are Kosher. This place really takes the cake.

Using the Too Good to Go app, I got a mystery pie for $6.99. Felt like I won lotto when the young man handed over the hefty Berry pie with a smile. To be fair, after looking at the menu, there were only 2 pies out of about 20 that I wouldn't have liked. Couldn't wait the whole day of defrost, so we cut into it while it was still a little firm. Delicious! Would and expect to be back many more times.

Who was our first time there. The staff was very wonderful and helpful. I will recommend chocolate cream pie was delicious. We will definitely be back.

One of East Hartford's most charming businesses. I've had pies a few times and now will only buy directly from the store. It is a true treat and delight!
