16 Colorado Venues for a Royally Good Wedding and Reception | Eater Denver

"For a “backyard” wedding, this 6-bedroom, 2-kitchen historic Potter-Highlands mansion has just been renovated as a rental and event space. It’s named for its first owner and builder, Henry Lee, who also was the founder of the Denver Parks system. The 124-year-old modernized Victorian is spread across three floors with a yard fit for a big tent or garden party. Two great dinner or catering options are just next door at Spuntino and Park Burger." - Josie Sexton

As a nontraditional wedding photographer, Grant Humphrey’s is top of my list for venues. Not only is the landscape, grounds, and overall vibe elevated and unique, but it also offers a ton of flexibility with options, budget and overall decor. A FAVEEEEE, if I could photograph only here forever I’d probably be happy hahaha had to leave a review! Photos from the venue included!!!

I highly recommend Grant-Humphreys as a wedding venue! I'm a local photographing and love documenting unique love stories here. The old-timey mansion vibes add a bit of class to any occasion. This location is an excellent choice for DIY-ers.

We had an absolutely amazing experience with the Grant-Humphrey Mansion for our wedding. The location was perfect, the price was incredible, and the venue itself was absolutely gorgeous - it provided the perfect backdrop for our special day. Most ceremonies are outside so I wanted to highlight how beautiful and special an indoor ceremony was. The staff was also lovely to work with. Rita and John both dealt with all my concerns and questions with such care and grace and I am so grateful for them. Another plus for this venue how LGBTQ+ friendly this venue was through every step of the process. Weddings are a very gendered industry and it was a breath of fresh air. We would highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for a stunning location at a great price.

The mansion is a beautiful place for a wedding. It has so much character that very little decor is needed. Carson was our coordinator and we could not say enough great things about her. She made everything absolutely seamless and was very attentive the couple months leading up to our wedding. Everything we dreamed of came together perfectly and we couldn’t have been happier! The only negative is that you must use Occasions Catering and although their food is amazing, it is very expensive and they seem to have some growing pains with the bar. Otherwise, we highly recommend the mansion for your wedding and definitely recommend Carson!

Beautiful mansion in the heart of cap hill Denver. I've lived here for almost 40 years and has no idea it was there. Beautiful ceilings and molding, great lower room with a small stage for private parties. It's got charisma, little kooky nooks, doors everywhere. The perfect place for a wedding in the city.

At the end it was great working with Grant-Humphreys mansion. Overall my wedding was beautiful and it went SO smoothly that I really have nothing negative to say. I am from Denver and getting married here really meant a lot.

We loved this venue for our intimate ceremony! It was great to have full use of the space. John and Rita were very accommodating and always quickly answered any questions we had. If you are looking for a beautiful wedding venue, I'd highly recommend Grant-Humphreys Mansion.

The venue is stunning! You have this beautiful unique mansion to get the best photos and most romantic feel. We had an intimate ceremony only and I couldn’t have asked for a better venue and John who was our contact was amazing and such a huge help!

Yelp
Overall our wedding was a day we will cherish forever! There are definitely a couple of things that would have made it a lot better though. To start off we had no air conditioning in the bridal suite. We had two small fans that did nothing but push around the hot air. My mother over heated right before my wedding time and it was awful. One AC unit was downstairs and one in the groom suite. People (including John) assured me that things would be cool and that was not what happened at all. Also no A/C was moved to the basement after being used in the groom suite and after we requested it to be moved. It was blazing hot in the basement and we ended the dance early due to people getting overheated. Second Sylvia, who was supposed to do the elevators and anything else we needed, did not reply promptly to our requests and made it seem like we were an inconvenience to help us. We had to go find her more than once and we had to search for her. We had several people leave before our first dance in the basement because they didn't want to wait on the elevator and hold up the wedding. It was very very disappointing to myself and my husband. It was his aunt and uncle and others who left because his uncle had a stroke and can no longer walk. It took us over ten minutes to find Sylvia. My brother and stepdad had to clear an entrance for the elevator to be used. I would have loved to actually meet my organizer Katie face to face but instead she sent a lady named Aspen in her place (Aspen was wonderful but didn't know anything of what Katie and I had already discussed). I didn't let any of that ruin our night. It is a beautiful venue but definitely some things need to be improved. Catering was wonderful!

Yelp
Beautiful grounds and venue. Unique and has tons of potential. It really is a great venue for a wedding or party.... However, Rita, the event manager, is an insufferable petty tyrant. While caution may be indicated during a unique period in our society, Hurricane Rita represents the worst kind of creature this pandemic has produced. This venue should be avoided until she finds another job. It's one thing to ask that guests wear masks, it's another thing to attempt to require the attendants AND officiant to wear masks during the ceremony. Spacing? Sure....not allowing the attendants to walk side-by-side but they can stand next to each other? Huh? Attached is an honest to God seating arrangement. Who is at that single table? The officiant....and father of the groom! No matter, he can come sit with us! Not allowed suggests Hurricane Rita! She threatened to stop the party, to which I laughed. Her next move? She yelled at and pointed her finger at the server, Sandy, who moved the place setting from the single table to our table. Dancing? Sure, but only at your table with other people at your table. And you can't leave your table for anything. This petty rule can't possibly extended to the father/daughter dance? It sure does! What option do you have? They can dance outside....but no one can view the dance. Hurricane Rita and her overlords are the worst type of person. They are given a modicum of power and use it to make up rules that no rational person would come up with or attempt to enforce. Sic semper tyrannis. Hurricane Rita and the rest.

Yelp
I don't know where to begin with this venue. They were so professional and so accommodating. It's a beautiful spot and very charming. Rita is a super cool lady. She knows her stuff. John too! Rita went down to Butler Rents with me and helped me pick out colors. The layout of the space is different, but that's what gives it character. We married on the West Lawn and it was a hot day, but I honestly didn't care. It was gorgeous. My guest tell me they had a blast at cocktail hour and later dinner. Dancing was downstairs. Yes the ceiling is a little low, but it works. They lifted us in chairs, but were super careful. Lol! Last but not least we hired a day of coordinator. Carson is awesome. Ask for her! She brings a ray of sunshine and knows her stuff. If you are looking for a beautiful, intimate, charming venue then you got it here.

Yelp
John was great to work with - both during the walkthrough and on the day of! This is a beautiful venue that was a fantastic choice for our 115 guests. Lots of options for size and layout based on what you want for your wedding. Really liked that we got married outside and did not have to make guests travel to the reception - it was right downstairs. Bridal suites made it easy to get ready the morning of the event. We ended up booking the venue starting at 2pm so we could relax and have some time prior to the wedding. Lots of rules but they are not ridiculous - they make sense given the age and delicacy of the venue. Really glad we ended up at Grant-Humphreys for our wedding day! Note that you do have a list of caterers you must work with, and you must utilize Butler rents for any rentals - this got expensive, but it was nice that we didn't have to coordinate number of spoons or number of tablecloths. Follow up on emails if you don't hear back - they are often busy and may not respond to your request or question until a few weeks later. Really nice that you can put stuff in the downstairs closet after the wedding and pick it up the following week - we had some items that were lost in the shuffle, but got the bulk of our items (centerpieces, mixers, guestbook, favors, etc.) back. All in all, this is a pretty venue that's relatively inexpensive. You don't have to spend time or money on decorations because the mansion is already decorated. Would caution against those with weddings of 140-150+ attendees - at 115, the space felt a little small at times.

Yelp
I was here Saturday night for a Downton Abbey Premiere Costume Ball hosted by PBS. This building is magical and gorgeous. Boyfriend & I, together 4 years and very soon to be engaged, agreed to have our wedding here. I was transported to a different era and couldn't have been happier with the results.

Yelp
We had our wedding here. The venue was absolutely gorgeous. All of our guests commented on how beautiful it was. We had a Sunday afternoon wedding and the weather was perfect. Some things to be aware of if you book are they are not as ADA friendly as they claimed to be. The elevator was pitched to us as a good option for our guests in wheelchairs or that use walkers. The elevator was not operational for use. Instead there was a white piece of paper with a number to call. Family members called the number but no one came. So a majority of our guests did not get to see the band or reception downstairs. One of the grandmothers could not come up to the bridal suite to see everything before which was planned. Overall if your guests do not require ADA accommodations such as elevators this would be a great venue.

Yelp
This is by FAR the best venue for a traditional/classic wedding. The venue is wonderfully set up for weddings with multiple rooms on the 2nd floor for getting ready (no Grooms stuffed in a little closet), fantastic dining areas, beautiful grounds for pictures, and, best of all, a dance floor downstairs with an area for desserts and coffee that is quiet! The mansion staff is fantastic to work with, accommodating and helpful! Thanks Grant-Humphreys!

Yelp
My sister had her wedding and reception here a couple years ago and I remember it seemed like the perfect place for such an event. They have a spacious 2nd floor that was used to allow the bride and company to get ready for the event, a cozy main floor for the wedding itself (it held over 100 comfortably), and a large downstairs complete with bowling for the reception. It had a great atmosphere for such an event and can't imagine a better place.

Yelp
I was here this past weekend for a holiday part, and they couldn't have been more lovely. I would certainly consider this venue if planning a special event. it still very much has a old homey feel, and while having separate rooms may not work for all types of events, I think a small wedding or other celebration would be perfect here. We used the space on the main floor and downstairs, and having the party spread out was actually quite fun. We also wandered around upstairs to view the rooms, and the details and beauty was quite charming. Though I heard the place is haunted, I never saw any ghosts (bummer) but had a fantastic time nevertheless.

Yelp
This is a beautiful older home rather mansion. They rent this out for weddings, it would be great venue.

Yelp
We loved having our wedding at this beautiful venue. The benefit of GH is the mansion is so beautiful on its own you really don't have to spend the extra money on decorations. I also really liked having the entire venue to ourselves, which made everything feel so intimate and wonderful. We worked with Rita during the booking and planning process and she was great. Day of we had Jon as the venue representative who was very helpful for our vendors and guests. I would highly recommend GH for a couple's wedding venue. They were easy to work with, the venue is beautiful, and a very reasonable price. I would recommend buying the extra hour for the reception to allow a little wiggle room for guests!

Yelp
A very nice venue for a wedding and reception. If you've got a large crowd you'll do best elsewhere, but for about 100 people it was filled without being crowded. Staff were friendly and the chicken we had was great. Parking for 100 folks required most to park on the crowded neighborhood streets. Not a problem really unless you have a lot of people with special needs.

Yelp
We had our wedding here a few weeks ago. This venue is amazing. It is meticulously kept but still generates warmth. Everywhere you look there is another beautiful detail. I told my husband that if we were to do the whole thing over with an unlimited budget we would keep the wedding at Grant-Humphreys as it was truly magical. The women who run the mansion are amazing. They are incredibly kind and helpful. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the Mansion and its staff!

Yelp
My grandson and his fiance had their wedding and reception here this past June. It is a magical place for a wedding. I had no part in the planning but everything seem to go smoothly to me. The ceremony was outside on the front steps. It was a beautiful day. Then there were cheese and fruit and drinks set up on the patio. Then a little later we were called in for dinner. After dinner dancing in the ballroom downstairs.

Yelp
I came to view the mansion as a possible wedding venue with my son and his soon-to-be bride. It goes without saying that the building itself is just lovely. There are romantic balconies, gorgeous fireplaces, a ballroom with a small stage, architectural details like you can't believe, and a majestic feel that transports you back in time to the glory days of old Colorado. But what impressed me more is the thoughtfulness and care with which we were treated on our visit. It was really just above and beyond and that kind of service made the whole thing such a pleasure. Kevin Gramer agreed to show us the property on a SUNDAY, which was much appreciated when we were trying to organize both sides of the family to arrive at the same time. From there, Kevin took lots of time to show us around, tell us stories, and he knew such unusual details that I felt like I'd been treated to a morning of entertainment -- not a sales pitch. He also was well-versed in how to handle some of the wedding arrangements we were wondering about -- true, honest information based on his own experience (he had been married there himself!) and the experiences of others. The whole morning was so informative and so much fun. When it came time to leave, he was patient enough to listen to our last questions and comments instead of rushing us out, and even came out with additional materials to the parking lot as we were getting ready to leave. It was really excellent care. For that reason alone, I would recommend the Grant-Humphreys Mansion highly for anyone planning a wedding or special event.
