On the Grid : Granville Island Tea Co.

"Founded in 1999 by Deborah and Mark Mercier. Deb was the driving force behind the creation of the store being a long time tea drinker and only tea, never to this day ever having a cup of coffee. These two have a way of making you feel like family. Their cheery dispositions and eagerness to swap travel stories is half the reason this shop is loved by locals. The other half is their vast selection of tea that is a direct result of customer preference and suggestion. Taking the time to listen to what customers say informs their abundant selection of rare and popular teas. Famous for their loose-leaf tea wall, it’s not a visit unless you try their Masala Chai Latte – a long held secret recipe. Rumor has it, Starbucks even tried to nab the elusive deets." - Arithmetic Creative

Excellent loose leaf tea at a reasonable price. Many options of flavoured black teas (rose, peach/apricot, some other funky flavours too) and many other "single origin" black tea variants from a variety of prominent tea producing countries like Sri Lanka, China, India, etc. You can get a tea in as little as 50g, so it's easy to try a few varieties for a good price. I cannot comment on their non-black tea varieties as that's all I've had here. The Chai Masala mix is also good value and very tasty. I've enjoyed it with different varieties of black tea and it always tastes great. Staff is also knowledgeable, and answered all my questions.

Thanks Shawn for introducing Oolong tea and their most popular masala milk tea, taste thick amazed me and I like the foaming especially!

Can't believe I never reviewed the Granville island Tea Company since I have been shopping there for tea for ages! A nice, no nonsense tea place. Tea leaves of many flavors and varieties. Great quality and very reasonably priced. It is a fraction of the price of say David's tea. The staff is always friendly. Last weekend the lady there recommended Ice Wine black tea and it was wonderful! Some of my favorites are rose tea, Christmas blend, apricot and peach, and lavender earl grey.

We recently visited the Granville Island Tea Company to request a large order as wedding favours. Trey was very accommodating and bagged 50 individual loose leaf tea orders for us. He made sure that we got exactly what we wanted and was a pleasure to work with. Overall, top notch customer service! We are sure that our guests will love the tea as much as we do.

My wife, Ivy, and I have been regulars at the Granville Island Tea Company, with Ivy being a dedicated patron for about 17 years. Over the past decade, we have discovered the joy of their tea selection together. Our home is always stocked with our favorites: African Sunset Rooibos, Organic Blood Orange Rooibos, Organic Assam, Organic Cream Earl Grey, Organic Jasmine, Lavender, Organic Honey Bush, Organic Lemon Ginger, and delightful herbal house blends depending on the season. As we enter 2025, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to the personable, professional, warm-hearted, and attentive team—especially Newton, Trey, Anna, and many others—who take pride in both consulting on their loose leaf tea and creating wonderful tea experiences for us. We can never visit Granville Island without savoring their Matcha Chai, Masala Chai, or Wellness Tea, which truly nourish our bodies.

🍵 Steeped in Delight: A Cozy Cup at Granville Island Tea Company! 🌿 🌤️ On a bright Vancouver day, I wandered into Granville Island and discovered the charming Granville Island Tea Company. Nestled amidst the bustling market, its quaint and inviting atmosphere offered a peaceful retreat. 🏞️ ☕ The extensive selection of teas, from aromatic masala chai to unique blends, was truly impressive. Opting for a creamy, perfectly balanced masala chai, I was delighted by its warmth and rich flavor. The staff's knowledge and friendliness enhanced the experience, making it not just a visit but a journey into the world of tea. 🍃 📚 The shop's setup, reminiscent of a cozy library with teas lined up like books, added to its enchanting ambiance. I appreciated the chance to sample different teas, each brewed to perfection, allowing for a personalized adventure for my taste buds. 📖 💼 Whether you're a tea aficionado or a curious newcomer, Granville Island Tea Company offers a welcoming space to explore an impressive range of teas. It's a must-visit for anyone seeking a serene sip in the heart of Granville Island. 🌟

Absolutely loved my visit to the Granville Island Tea Company! The raspberry and peach teas were delightful and bursting with flavor. The customer service was incredibly friendly and welcoming. A must-visit for tea lovers!

Google
I ordered an Assam tea latte, and it tasted amazing ( especially on a cold day!). There are so many types of tea to choose from that I always have a hard time deciding, but they all taste good. However, the store tried to separate the lines for those ordering tea to go and those buying loose leaf tea, but the staff stayed behind the counter, so the lines ended up being a bit chaotic...

Yelp
A must-visit for tea enthusiasts. Located inside the bustling Granville Market, it offers an extensive variety of teas to explore. There isn't really much space for you to stand and enjoy your tea, but perfect for on the go. You can select a flavor and have them prepare a cup on the spot, or browse their pre-packed loose-leaf options. They also offer the option to pack specific flavors you choose. The tea baristas were knowledgeable and friendly, providing helpful recommendations and insights about their selections. The cups of tea we ordered were high quality and had distinct, rich flavors that really stood out. Whether you're a tea connoisseur or just looking for a warm drink while exploring the market, Granville Island Tea Company is well worth a stop.

Yelp
Really nice tea shop in the midst of the market, so many options for tea lovers! Had the chai latte as part of our food tour and it was buttery and smooth. Came back to get some more and the workers were very patient and nice. Their iced tea and lemonades are very popular and had the white tea lemonade which was different but with a good tartness.

Yelp
Delicious tea! I bought a few bags of tea since my family loves tea as well. They have the counter where you can sample the teas for free. You can also see the employees in the back packaging the tea. My favorite teas were the toffee popcorn and the chai tea. The chai tea is powder base and you have to use it with black teas popcorn toffee tea gas actual popcorn inside and it smells really good, it's smooth and silky. Chai tea is very flavorful and all the spices go well together. Since it's powder based it already has sugar and powder milk. It's. Nice little place at the market and a great pit stop if you're doing some shopping.

Yelp
Best masala chai I've ever had! I ordered mine "with the works", and it was the perfect amount of complex flavor and spice. Most chais in North America are too bland for my taste but not here. Granville Island Market has so many cute, tasty shops, and this was the highlight for me. And Stu (in the photo) was the kindest (excellent service)!

Yelp
This is a coffee and tea shop located inside Granville Public Market. They specialize in various brewed teas and coffees. Their menu is quite extensive and they have so many options outside of the standard brews. I ordered the matcha chai latte with oak milk. It was delicious! The large size was only 50 cents more. It was the perfect balance of sweet from the matcha and spice from the chai. I would definitely come back here for matcha chai!
google avatar

Heather W.

Yelp
An absolute must try!! I had the matcha chai latte, it was fresh, spicy but sweet with matcha and caffeinated! So smooth and delicious, I highly recommend! Service was quick!

Yelp
Thirst: White Tea Lemonade $3.00 white tea based refreshing, contains caffeine personally a sweet taste Fruit Iced Tea $3.00 unsweetened caffeine free no sweet taste, but likely healthier personally i prefer the white tea lemonade over a fruit ice tea. given it was a nice hot day, the lemonade was definitely refreshing I recommend this location if you are looking for a refreshing cold drinks on a hot day.

Yelp
Every time I'm in Vancouver I have to stop in and get some tea to take home. I also love their Wellness tea which is delicious and makes me feel so good. Love it!
google avatar

Yelp
Taste like lemonade from any supermarket. Did not taste the white tea at all. Fast service
google avatar

Amy C.

Yelp
Amazing chai tea- perfect blend of sweetness and aroma - highly recommend. We got a large to share for me and my husband it was perfect

E M.

Yelp
Seriously understaffed. Waited at the counter for a few minutes ready to pay. No acknowledgement from the two on staff had me feeling invisible so I left. Was it my Kraken hat?
google avatar

Sankit G.

Yelp
While visiting the Public Market I thought of trying this new take on lemonade with White tea base. It is already prepared and you cannot adjust the sugar. Nevertheless, upon trying this white tea base lemonade I was able to tell any difference in the taste than the regular lemonade, I couldn't tell apart if there was any white tea or not. And sugar was surely on the higher side. So I'm just a bit unsure about my recommendation. Maybe you should try their actual tea and not these pre made drinks. They seem to boast with pride that they'll remake your tea if it's not to your satisfaction.

Yelp
From now on until forever I'll make sure to stop by here for tea! I read the masala chai is to die for, although I love chai, when it comes to loose leaf teas I want something extra. I had a great time talking to Mathew and he walked me through some of their more popular teas and how he likes to drink them. He was so friendly and helpful. Granville Island Tea Company is listed as a must stop location so I was determined to get something and meet the people who make this an iconic stop. The Rose Black tea immediately caught my attention. I've had a rose green tea before and really liked it but this one is 100 xs better!! The Rose adds a beautiful floral sort of fruity taste to the harsher black tea and the little rose petals are very pretty! The aroma alone is very strong. On the bag it's suggested to steep for 2-3 min and I normally would do a shorter steep for a black tea, but you'll really like the taste of this one darker.

Yelp
First, be sure to try their chai tea sample. It's incredibly delicious. You can also buy it for $5 a cup. If you are a tea drinker, you have found a very happy place right here in this corner. Other than the chai, several other teas are available for test. Take a look at the wall of tea tins and consider what you may want to try next. There's a bin with packets of tea sold at a $5 flat rate. It's a great starting point to get multiple flavors. I have purchased multiple fruits and vanilla green teas and I can genuinely say they are delicious - delicately flavored with wonderful scents. Passion fruit, mango, and vanilla green teas are amongst my favorites. Have a conversation with the staff to learn the many teas they have. It's great fun.
google avatar

Yelp
They had tasters which was so smart to sell their product. Chai tea was amazing. Their prices were at a good rate too!

Yelp
Love the Graville Island public market so much!!! Lee's Donuts is an iconic donut shop here and there is always a line infront of the shop. They have been serving delicious, handmade, quality, classic donuts from scratch since 1979. On their website, they say the Honey dip is their favorite and Seth Rogan's favourite is Jelly filled. I was there late and because their donuts are hand made fresh in small batches I only get one with sugar and one with matcha sugar. And they are delicious!!!!!!!event the matcha donut is not warm anymore ,their flavor and fragrance are distinctive and well-balanced. they are sweet but not cloying and the donut is so soft!!!!! Just love it!!

Yelp
It was cold and windy outside and my wife and I really wanted something hot to hold and drink. Luckily, we found Granville Island Tea Company and they had a great assortment of tea for sale and for sale by the cup. We were having a difficult time trying to figure out what flavor we wanted to order. I ended up ordering the Lychee Jasmine Green Tea and my wife ordered the Earl Grey. My lychee jasmine only had a small hint of lychee which was disappointing and the my wife complained the earl grey taste was not strong and bold enough. They did however provide tremendous customer service and we received 20% off our order for the day because it was Family Day holiday in Vancouver. Maybe we just didn't order the right tea as I would like to give it another try if and when I go back to Vancouver.

Yelp
Great selection of teas, and it too my some time to choose. I guess that's why it's called Granville Island Tea Company. Cute little place. It's located on Granville Island, and near all the little boutique stores and eateries. It's a pretty awesome place to check out. They didn't have iced tea readily available, but the barista was able to do a fresh brew and put it on ice for me. I had the passion iced tea. Friendly and quick service. Great addition to the market area. I wish I had purchased some tea bags to take home. Oh well, my next visit to Vancouver!

Yelp
I love tea places like these that have such a huge variety of loose leaf teas. There really isn't any in the area I live in so of course I must indulge my love of tea taste buds. It's located inside Granville Public Market. The staff are really friendly. I was feeling overwhelmed looking at the menu but decided to settle on one of the Chai teas, yes you heard me there are a variety of chai teas. I was in tea heaven! It also is super budget friendly, so I wanted to keep making rounds and keep coming back but tea doesn't cool down that fast and my tongue is made of a lot of feeling nerves so chugging tea isn't a reality.
google avatar

Yelp
I myself am more of a coffee person, but this shop was definitely my "cup of tea"! Choose some loose-leaf tea from their endless options along the back wall or grab made-to-order hot and cold drinks to enjoy while roaming the Market. The variety is endless from several flavors of green tea, black tea, herbal tea, etc. The list goes on and on. What made our visit here the most memorable was the outstanding customer service. I believe Scott helped us and he was great - super knowledgeable when asked about specific types of tea down to their distinct flavors and characteristics. He even gladly took the time to steep a sample of the Lychee Jasmine tea for three of us to try. It was delicate, providing an even balance between fruity and jasmine flavors. So good, we bought an 100 gram bag (that's about 40 cups of tea)! I also ordered an iced Lychee Mango tea to go - refreshing with a natural sweetness. Couldn't be happier to have found this shop in the hustle and bustle of the market. Something about its ambiance was so calming. This is a definite must for tea lovers, although given the selection, I'm sure that even those who don't drink tea on a normal basis could find flavors to fit their preferences. The only regret I have is that I didn't buy nearly enough tea to bring home with me until my next trip to Vancouver!
google avatar

Teresa T.

Yelp
Absolutely paradise for a tea lover! Their space is pretty small and can get packed but the staff are very helpful and offer great suggestions based on your preferences. I like that i can get varying quantities: larger for my everyday teas and loads of smaller flavors I'm trying out! I'll definitely be back for more!
google avatar

Sheri C.

Yelp
No ordinary cup of tea. Hundreds of choices. I wanted a hot chai. Add ginger or cayenne. Milk frothed, tea steeped, spices added and blended. The spices were delightful. The baristas were pleasant. Great experience. I'll come back the next time I'm in Vancouver. I love a good tea bar.

Yelp
I love tea and coffee... probably this is one of the best place in lower mainland to get fresh tea leave :). My favourite so far: UVA Ceylon Fine Cut- I was looking for tea leaves that goes well with milk tea, and one of the sales person recommended me this! I then made a milk tea with this tea leave (just brew the tea for few minutes then add milk), and it was amazing.. :) Gives me this elegant feeling.. Milk oolong - It was my first time to see Milk Oolong so decided to try it out! They have premium milk oolong as well but that was sold out so I tried the regular one. I drank it straight..and it was really good! It really had this "milky" sort of feeling to it but very flavourful at the same time. I shall try the premium milk oolong next time.

Yelp
Lovely little tea company on Granville Island!! I had a great experience shopping at this tea stand. First of all, high-tea and tea time in general are a big part of Canadian culture, so if you're visiting Vancouver, you should definitely partake :) This little shop in the Granville market has TONS of tea options to chose from. It's a little overwhelming, but the staff are friendly and helpful. My favorite part was the tastings-- I tried the chai masala tea, and oh buddy! it was delicious!! Coming from an Indian person, let me tell you, this tasted very authentic and delicious. They have little packages of black tea with the chai masala mix for $10, or just the chai masala mix for $5. I opted for just the chai masala mix and I plan to use my own black tea at home. Overall, a very adorable and legit tea shop that is a must try for any tea lovers! Cheers!
google avatar

Angelica Q.

Yelp
What a storefront! Reminds me of the boxes of wands stacked upon each other inside of Ollivander's at Universal Studios Harry Potter. Lots of samples out for free tasting as well! One of the ones that really pleased my palate was the Masala chai ... it was soooo good that we bought their mix to take home with us! Service was prompt and easy, what a wonderful little joint inside the Granville Island Public Market!
google avatar

Jonathan T.

Yelp
Any tea lover must stop by Granville Island Tea Company. Their ridiculous selection rivals any specialty shop (like an Allen Iverson crossover was just superior to everyone else's). They serve both cold and hot teas and even have designated cash registers, for each one. I chose the Masala Chai, and what makes theirs unique is that they mix black tea, milk, spices, and sugar into a Vita Mix. (Wut.) For a few Canadian dollars, I indulged in a fantastic drink. I thought the service seemed a bit slow, but I guess one can't rush perfection. (Haha.) Check it out for yourself!
google avatar

Patricia A.

Yelp
Visiting the market today and came across this tea stand where the tea was flying of the ice. The red one caught my eye and when I saw the fruit inside I had to try one. The tea was lightly sweetened and there is light syrup for you to sweeten to your taste. The serving size was good and the price was reasonable. Delicious tea to quench my palate.

Yelp
As a house full of snobby tea drinkers we worship Granville island Tea Co. My mom went to the shop sometime in 2013 and we have been ordering online ever since. Even during the pandemic we have had no issues getting our quarterly purchases (no issues with cross border post) or had any issues with something being out of stock. My partner is a reformed coffee drinker and likes his tea a little darker so Malty Breakfast is our go to. We usually get one or two other types to try something new. A recent favorite is Smokey Afternoon. They have always been courteous via email and have good recommendations. My partner says "it's good, buy it".
google avatar

Jennifer K.

Yelp
Granville Island Tea Company inside Granville Island Public Market is an excellent place if you want to grab a cup of tea or get some loose leaf tea. The only issue maybe the huge selection they carries. But there is always a perfect tea for every occasion and to suit your mood. There are some sampling cans (over 40 different ones!) for your to smell some of the tea even before you get to the counter. Price is reasonable, consider it is a really touristy area. Highly recommend if you are a tea drinker while you visiting the Market!
google avatar

Alexandra M.

Yelp
Best cup of Chai EVER! And super sweet vendors!! Thank you for a nice conversation! When a cup of tea is so much more than just a cup!!

Paul L.

Yelp
Such good tea spoiled by such comatose service. If you have the time to watch four staff serve two customers as if they really don't care to be there, then enjoy! Cause the tea is very good. If you can get at it...lol Best of luck.
google avatar

Brandon M.

Yelp
As my family and I were exploring the Granville Island Market, we passed by this tea shop and came to a complete halt when we smelt the tea as we walked by. The aroma of the different teas was so fragrant that I knew this place was the real deal for loose tea lovers! Not knowing anything about this place, I checked Yelp and, as you can see, everyone has had positive things to say about this place. Not knowing when I'd find good quality tea like this, I ordered some for myself and for family members back home. Our favorite so far is the Rose Marzipan! Simply delicious. They also give samples of their Masala Chai tea which was also really good. Have a cup or two!
google avatar

Sylvia K.

Yelp
The matcha chai here is amazing!!! Order this from the tea bar!!! The flavors are really tasty and it's perfect for a cold day! This place is one of my favorite tea places and is inside Granville Island's public market. They have so many different kinds of tea here! Never heard of a certain flavor and are curious about what it smells like? They've got bottles on the side with labels that you can open and smell! They also have pre-packaged teas for $4 that you can look through to buy. The staff are friendly and very helpful!
google avatar

Kevin B.

Yelp
Granville is such a wonderful tea company and I loved shopping here. The staff were very helpful in finding the right tea for me as I wanted to get a variety of them as a surprise for my wife. I got to smell as many as I wanted and I got four to take home. The chocolate black tea was especially delicious as was the floral French black tea blend. We'd definitely stop here again and it's a go-to if you love tea and are in the area!
google avatar

Jon L.

Yelp
was strolling thru the market and chanced upon this stall inside... presentation was superb! place looked like a cross between a east/west tea shop. looked more like an alchemy of tea mixes... they had a masala chai tea sampler and being a lover of chai tea, i decided why not! first, the aroma...it was very fragrant and the colours looked goood. next the first sip after letting the tea settle...wow! very fragrant and full of flavour! it tasted like tea served at an indian banquet hall! it wouldve been perfect if there were more masala and other indian spices to give it a stronger flavour. but still, it was very very good despite it being sold in a non indian store or establishment. 4 stars...woudlve been 5 but i think they should make the masala spices stronger to capture that pure south asian experience.

Yelp
Huge selection of teas to choose from with friendly staff! This gem made my visit to Granville Island so much better. I can't emphasize how friendly the service was. The staff who assisted me in taking home some souvenirs was more than helpful! I was able to take some fresh bags loose leaf and matcha.
google avatar

Lindsay P.

Yelp
Every time I visit Granville Island, I ALWAYS have to get an Ice Black Tea! It's perfect if you're looking for a drink that is not sweet and will cool you down during the summer heat!
google avatar

Joshua M.

Yelp
Granville Island Tea Company is a wonderful little tea shop within the lively and vibrant Granville Public Market. I ended up leaving here with a bag of green tea and another of pu-erh and have found both to be absolutely delightful to drink. I like the look of the shop with boxes of loose leaf teas lined across a giant shelf across the back wall. The worker would have to climb up a sliding ladder just to bring the box of tea down. This shop also places some leaves out in containers for those wanting to smell their scents before deciding what to get. The workers here are very polite, friendly, and helpful, guiding me through their extensive selection of quality teas and answering all my questions regarding differences between teas. For those who love tea, Granville Island Tea Company is a definite stop to make in this market!
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
Not only do they have a towering library of loose-leaf tea to browse through in the back, but they also have an assortment of 'specialty drinks' that you can order in either a 16 or 12oz at various prices. The Masala Chai was recommended by the worker, but the *Matcha Chai* was the most enticing selection for me since matcha and chai are some of the top things that make me all giddy and fuzzy on the inside. I requested to have it in a 12oz and with almond milk for an extra $0.50 ($4.25). It comes with a heavy helping of chai powder sprinkled on top. Drink itself was extremely aromatic with a definite earthy matcha essence. As for taste, the chai definitely overwhelmed but in a more subdued manner. That fuzzy feeling was very much welcomed though. Worth checking out!
google avatar

NienTzu C.

Yelp
My favourite chai tea latte is here. They blend real ginger juice and masalas spice in front of you. The smells of it is really awesome. Ordering here for a cup of it is the must when I come. Best of best chai tea latte!
google avatar

Emi H.

Yelp
My poor Mom was under the weather and we stopped here to get a hot cup of tea. I am a tea fanatic and love the huge assortment of offerings which you can buy by the cup or in loose leaf form. We opted for a simple hot cup of green tea because she wanted something to warm her sore throat on a chilly Vancouver day. Service was friendly and I love that they were happy to sample the different varietals. If you're a lover of a good book paired with the perfect cup of freshly steeped tea, this will be your happy place. Get the Chai, it's amazing!
google avatar

Kathleen M.

Yelp
I came, I saw, I drank masala chai. I came here because of all the rave reviews for the masala chai. When I ordered the counter guy asked if I wanted it with cayenne. He said that if I liked it a little spicy - which I do - that I would like it. Well, I take full credit it for that mistake. It was okay but just too much cayenne. When I went back for a lid, I noticed that they offer free samples from a dispenser and I tried the regular version. I definitely preferred it. In retrospect I think it would have been ideal at half the amount of the usual cayenne. In the regular version I did notice some interesting spices. (The cayenne version kind of obliterated them.) The husband's white tea lemonade only tasted like lemonade. He reported that it was just okay. Vancouver Chai Rankings 1) Cocoa West Chocolatiers (chocolate chai), Bowen Island 2) Granville Tea Co, Granville Island 3) Pappa Roti (karak - similar to chai), West End 4) Bel Cafe (chocolate chai), Downtown

Yelp
For whatever reason, I have really been into chai tea lately. We were walking around the Market, I decided to stop at the Granville Island Tea Company, and an grab a cup. I grabbed their Chai Latte (with cayenne and ginger). It was perfect. Based on others' previous reviews, I think they have altered the amount of cayenne they place into the drink. I don't like too much spice, but I felt the cayenne was a perfect compliment to the spices in the base chai. Granville Island Tea Co. has a larger space inside the Market. Half of the space is a dedicated to purchase of loose leaf teas, while the other half is is the tea bar for grab-and-go drinks. I didn't notice any seating, but most everyone grabs tea and continues to wander around the market. They have so many selections of loose leaf teas, it could easily be overwhelming, but the staff will help you choose your favorite profile(s). If you just can't choose, they sell smaller "sample-size" bags which would brew 8-10 cups. A lot of people appeared to be mixing and matching their perfect blends into larger gift bags--which would be the perfect gift for any occasion. We were there the Friday before Thanksgiving, so the entire Market was a flutter with people seeking for gifts and necessities for the holiday.
google avatar

Hailie H.

Yelp
Customer service was awful. The lady who helped me accepted my money, without sanitizing, she started preparing my drink. When I voiced my concerns, she was very arrogant and simply replied with "ok".
google avatar

Wendy T.

Yelp
Me and my son were both trying to smell all the teeth that were displayed on the table. We also tried the tea and we are surprised with the earl grey which is very flowerly and smells good. I ended up buying all my souvenirs from here, all peach green tea because we think it smells really good. We got the beautiful cute tin foil to keep the tea which we can also keep it for other things in the future. Really happy to find this place and when you buy over 300 Gram, you get 10% of discounts which is almost one of the 50 Gram for free!

Yelp
I arrived on Granville Island with a stomach full of dim sum. I had no room for donuts, artisan pepperoni sticks or local raspberries. But when offered a chai latte, I could not say no. As a member of the small tribe of coffee intolerant I have had a lot of chai lattes in my life. Most are forgettable, some are worse. Granville Island Tea Company was transcendent. This was the chai that angels sing about. I might be compelled to write a love song about this chai, it was that good. I could go on, but I think you're getting the point... What makes this chai different from every other you've sipped before? First off, butter. Second, a seriously great blend of black teas and spices. Next, it goes into a blender! (Don't ask questions, just get one!) Finally, fresh cayenne and ginger (you need both, trust me). All of this results in a chai with serious chew plus heat and creaminess and so much flavor. Chai enthusiasts, this masala's worth a pilgrimage!

Yelp
Their steeped chai is still my favourite. They now offer the option of adding ginger and cayenne to your chai. I opted for the ginger addition but wasn't able to detect it much. They make each order fresh so be ready to wait several minutes as the chai is not just syrup mixed with milk. They offer a huge array of loose leaf tea you can order to take home as well. So next time you're in Granville Island be sure to stop by and try their chai (even my boyfriend enjoyed his sip and he's not even a chai kover)

Yelp
It's hard to miss Granville Island Tea Company when walking around the market since you can smell the chai. I have a few friends that are huge tea fanatics so I figured it would be grab a few things here as gifts. Of course, there are a ton of selections, and the guy helping me out was very helpful. He explained all the different types of black tea, green, oolong, and even let me smell some of the teas. In the end, I went for an organic Assam that they also use for their own chai blend as well as a Formosa Oolong. The Assam has a very strong smell, and I can see why they use it for their chai. Just from the smell, you can already smell a little bit of the spiced quality chai teas are known for. The tea leaves are very fine though so I imagined my friend would have to use a tea bag to brew it haha. As for the Formosa Oolong, it is a tea that I'm very familiar with and I got it for myself just to compare. Brewed it in a tea ball for about 2-3 minutes, tried it and definitely digging it. Parents liked it as well and they actually used up about half of the bag already haha. I went and got the 100grams for each, exactly how it is priced on the menu. There's also loose leaf teas already packaged but I think they are bit higher. They are good for gifts though! You can also get their chai teas brewed on the spot. I would've tried it but I was still having a caffeine rush from the coffee that morning haha. Overall, price is a bit pricey for what I can get in the States, but the quality is definitely there, not to mention that they really know their stuff!

Yelp
First things first are the wonderful chai [mix] latte and variety! Ok, now that's out of the way and engrained in your brain cells. =) This is a wonderful and charming shop, despite being in a busy corner stall in the Public Market building. Very warm and pleasant staff, tea tins aplenty and just super cool. I'd asked for the variety of chai tea they have and a gal swifty pulled down and subsequently opened some tins in front of me, briefly describing their aromas. I decided to pass and went to the bar section for the chai mix latte. When I noticed they only have soy/almond and skim milk, I was worried it wouldn't be thick/creamy enough for my taste but the lady said it's actually pretty close to that... and she was right! It is also rather mellow but very smooth and a hint of taste all it's own. I didn't catch if they had cinnamon and nutmeg shakers... Suh-weet!
