"Grass Valley Brewing Co. does brewery food just right — snacks include garlic fries and spicy wings, plus there’s a full menu of burgers and sandwiches ranging from the healthful to the decadent. While there, sample the brewery’s hazy IPAs, stouts, and dark Mexican lager — and pick up some canned beers to take home." - Flora Tsapovsky

Don't give many 5 star ratings, but my experience today was great. Beautiful atmosphere, excellent burger. Great service. Now, this isn't a fast food joint. Come in relax and enjoy. Plan on an hour or more. It's worth your time.

You absolutely must try the deep fried mushrooms and chipotle aioli. I also had a ceasar wrap that was really tasty. My man had a pepperoni pizza. Fast service. No waitress here, order at the bar. The head chef Kenny is a super guy!

I love going here. They have good service, good beer, a nice sitting area with outdoor, dog friendly areas, and outdoor heaters. It's a great place to go grab a beer. They also have events during the week like trivia night every other Thursday. The events get crowded, so if you're planning on going, come early. The only real downside is the restaurants they've put in place. The first was Roost which was really heavy food. Now they have the 111 Grill or something like that and while their food is tasty for the most part, they are really expensive. I'm talking $12 for fries expensive. They do have some healthier options, like a salad, but it's still expensive at $8 for a small pile of spinach.

Loved this GVBC! Had a couple ciders and took some to go! Friendly staff and fun environment. They had a popup BBQ restaurant as well. Smelled amazing

What is not to like...excellent selection of beers and literal hole in the wall food establishment has some excellent vitals. We came in after a hike and enjoyed some good beer and food. The heaters in the brew room was a nice touch since it was pretty cold outside. Plenty of distractions from checking out the decorations, brew tanks, TV's and some good old fashioned people watching. After a few pints this gets better. Staff was very friendly and had some good suggestions for our non beer drinker...weird.

After reading all the great reviews, I had high expectations. The beer was good. The staff was good. The atmosphere was good. There wasn't any wow factors. A pool table, darts, board games or live music would keep the customers there longer. The flight of beers I had, tasted the same. The flavors need to be more pronounced. Also, It would have been nice if the staff tried to engage in a conversation with the customers. It would have made a difference. This is an okay date spot. On the plus side, there's plenty to do in the Grass Valley area. IG: SACRAMENTOHONEY

Update to the owner: Thanks for the additional information regarding your dog policy. Signage at the entry door clearly states no dogs so it’s really unfortunate this policy appendage was not included on or near the same sign. As a first time customer I feel had that information been apparent it would have enhanced my overall visit. With regard to the street side seating, I am speaking from my own personal experience and not all customers. During my visit I did notice about 95% of customers were either seated indoors or in the shaded brewery side. I recommend sitting in the street-side section only during cooler evening hours and after afternoon rush hour. As for the beer I purchased, perhaps better said would be that it was okay, I just found it wasn’t worth the out-of-the-way drive. Visiting the area for a few days and thought I would check out a couple local breweries. I decided to visit GVBC despite it was 18 miles round trip out of my way. One of the reasons I came here was because of several reviews on how they are dog friendly. However, when I walked up to the door I immediately notice a sign posted: No dogs and other pets allowed. It seems there are many different interpretations of dog friendly. Normally I would have just turned and left but because I drove so far out of my way I decided to have one beer and then leave. So my faithful companion and I sat outside in the 90° heat under the covered area right next to the busy street taking in the carbon fumes and continual street noise. Beer was just okay. Got kind of a weird vibe from the staff person pouring. Overall this visit was a fail. Glad it’s over. Facility seemed to be handicap accessible although I did not see handicap parking within close proximity. Closest I saw was near City Hall. Parking in general was extremely difficult.

I love the brewery and their beer, wine, Cider, and other drink options but they're really let down by their restaurant. Roost used to be the food option and they recently got replaced by the over priced One Eleven. Their service is terrible, their food is too greasy, and the price is WAY too high. This would definitely be a five star brewery if they didn't have a restaurant at all and just let you bring your own food.

Yelp
We have never been to Grass Valley and stayed just one night, but we are so glad we went to Grass Valley Brewing. I enjoyed the gluten removed red and my husband imbibed a couple of IPAs. They were delicious so we grabbed some to go. There's also some great food to be had as well. My husband had the spicy chicken sandwich and I had the beyond burger. Really fresh, cooked well, and all the toppings were great. The locals are friendly and laid back which is exactly what you're looking for in a small town. We will definitely go back and spend more time!!

Yelp
Came here for a quick stop with my hubby, Uncle & Aunt yesterday, and this place is super cute!! We had some beers and fries. The tenders were more like nuggets, but the garlic fries were better than any ball game that we've attended. Also, kudos for having cheap food too!

Marie M.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place. The live music was fun, employees were friendly, the food was decent but I can't stop thinking about the long white hair I pulled out of my mouth after biting into my fish sando.

Gracie F.

Yelp
We love GVBC! Food is always a 10/10 and so are the beers. Always recommend them to visitors.

Yelp
Almost every time we come to downtown, we will grab a burger and a beer here and have also celebrated birthdays and other celebrations at grass valley brewery .... Our experiences have been mostly always pleasant, but today was different. Lately when we have been getting the burgers the middle is very raw and my youngest son cannot handle it and he gets a stomachache so today he took out a pasty We bought earlier from downtown to have a couple bites while the rest of my table was all eating our burgers and drinking our beers we purchased. When we were almost done the bartender walked up to us bent down in my 10 year olds face and said we are not allowed to have outside food, but she will let this slide and pretend she didn't see it. I was extremely confused because behind me was a table filled with cupcakes that someone brought in on their own (outside food) also I seen pretty frequently written on the Instagram page that they are offering food today but feel free to bring in something else of your choice. When I went in to get clarification because as quickly as she came up and said something she left, she told me I am breaking health code. I told her that if I am breaking health code, then how is it OK to have tons of cupcakes behind me and she said it's OK because it's a party. Her tone was very rude and cold. After all the money we spent. My son cannot handle these greasy burgers and only wanted a couple bites of his pasty and I do not think the woman's condescending attitude was justified. I told her that we had planned on having more beers, but we will leave and she just kept yelling at me from the bar bye leave bye. I will never come back here after the harsh treatment of my 10 year old son....I've supported this location for years and ignored the fact that your food has gone downhill and is greasy, raw in the middle and disgusting and fries are cold and am now officially done. Before you lie about health codes make are sure the info on the instagram matches and the food is worth the cost. I guess these outside cupcakes brought in don't violate health code, but my Son pulling out a Half eaten pasty is......

Yelp
My bro-in-law was the featured band at 3pm on 8/11. Beer was outstanding, ole 55 !! Smash burger hit the spot. Sun was a little bright through the roof windows. The staff were the best.

Ken C.

Yelp
Had a couple beers and some amazing garlic fries here, I would recommend. Lots of great beers and the bar food is like restaurant food. Highly recommend if you like craft beers. Staff was very good as well.

Lumine C.

Yelp
I ordered a cookie a la mode and fries. This is the perfect place to go if you want soggy fries and burnt cookies. They taste fine but they are not great. (Keep in mind that this is a brewery and I didn't order any beer) The people are lovely and service was very quick. The ambiance is kinda interesting. It's definitely a brewery! Industrial style and picnic tables. Overall it's a nice place to have some food and drinks!

Shawn R.

Yelp
If you like a lot of seating options and craft beers of all different varieties, you typically can't lose with GV Brew. I never need to worry about finding a spot to sit down and sip a porter or stout.

Rachel N.

Yelp
This location is kind of split into two, the bar side is mostly just a lot of open space, but you can sit at the bar and the servers are friendly. The warehouse side is really where it's at, it's decorated and really lovely to sit with the doors open for a breeze with live music to heighten your night. There is no table service, they have a cafeteria like set up, you have to go to a window in the bar side to order and pay, and then they'll bring the food to you. Same with drinks, you'll have to order at the bar and bring it back yourself. Though it's a bit odd, the food and drinks are good -- the fries were large enough to share with three people, and the salad was huge! Seems like a nice place to wind down with friends after work, but wish they had an easier service system.

Randal L.

Yelp
A dog friendly establishment with some very good beer and wine. The Fish Tacos were outstanding!

SisterMable S.

Yelp
So I didn't get many pics except my grandson demolishing TWO cheese quesadillas, but we all had an excellent time, had three beers each, plus delicious food! I started with the key lime sour, which was wild, but my next two beers were the Grateful Haze. Magical. My caprese salad was a delight, except the grilled chicken, which was dry. My daughter's cheeseburger was a glorious juicy feast, and I was a bit envious lol. The fries were crisp outside, creamy inside, and the dips were yummy. Can't wait to go back.

Colin G.

Yelp
Service and ambiance were great. The food left a lot to be desired. We tried three items and were unimpressed. Not many kids options on the food menu.

Elle J.

Yelp
It's you Yelpers that got me in trouble on my little jaunt into downtown... all those pictures of that HUGE beer flight was too tempting to turn down... I mean I'm about a good time ALWAYS and it just looked like a good time you know? All that beer with the ability to sample so many different flavors had me truly looking forward to the party that would soon be happening in my mouth! plus the fun of hanging out and socializing... discussing all the differences of what was being tasted... all of it. I can't help myself I just truly can't. I was doing a little happy dance when it was (finally) time to get my sampler. I cheered and had the biggest smile on my face. If you saw that somewhat joyous woman, you're welcome. I won't apologize for my unbridled joy! Flight 12/5oz ($28): basically they give you a long list and you omit 3. The rest arrives to you on a huge wooden platter. It's huge! I thought at first it was a bit too spendy. I'm used to Portland Oregon prices where beer is cheaper than water, still it was not out of this world expensive. each pour is pretty big and you won't walk out without a buzz. I had an awesome time and it really set the tone for my pasty eating because I freakin' DESTROYED my pasty after my visit here. Like, I gobbled that thing up so ugly I'd not be surprised if it will make the police blotter section of the newspaper... Go in and give it a try! Some beers I liked and others weren't my fav but with the sheer amount to try you're likely to find a beer you like or at least put a smile on your face!

James D.

Yelp
First of all; the location is sweet. This town gets crowed on the weekends and parking was a breeze(today). I just wanted a beer or two and they had both...maybe even more. I was in a mood so I ordered from this special keg, room temp, blended beer called WEIRD SCIENCE and I liked it. I know they have food, sell swag and other beers so I'll probably have to go back but the most surprising thing I noticed was a large array of well PRICE beers on tap and I like that too. "Keep them flowing" JD

Alexis B.

Yelp
This was such a great place! Great vibes and so much good beer! We came in and got the around the world flight, which is 12 tasters. We tried a good variety of beers and even their seltzer. All the beers were great and they even had gluten removed beers that actually tasted like beer! We also ordered food and it was delicious. The pretzel was buttery and the beer cheese smooth and creamy. We also split the chicken salad and it was crisp and full of flavor. There were plenty of seats inside and out and the staff was super friendly and knowledgeable about all the beers. They had a schedule of events that looked like a ton of fun. Upcoming was a Harry Potter Trivia night with a special butter beer! Would definitely recommend stopping by for anyone in Grass Valley.

Sandy T.

Yelp
Service was good, hard seltzer was ok, beer selection really good and the cold Thai salad was awesome.

Melinda T.

Yelp
Great beer! Also appreciate the generous wine pours. Service is decent, though if you order food, you have to pick it up yourself (be ready for that). One big minus point in the ambience arena is that it's really loud - but if that's okay with you, then this is a good place to have a drink or a meal.

Scott S.

Yelp
Excellent home crafted beers in the heart of the historic downtown Grass Valley district. On a nice day, it's relaxing to sit outside and enjoy the pine dusted hills in the distance with a cold draft beer. I'm partial to pale ales and IPAs and both of theirs were crisp and refreshing with no bitter aftertaste and a clean finish. If you like IPAs their "running with scissors" IPA is a delight and a nice head rush at .8% ABV. The food offers a nice lunch break with standard burger fare and some unique Sammie's like the lamb and beef burger with feta. For better health and freshness, the seared ahi boasted four nice baby hand-sized tuna slices with a pleasant garlic aioli drizzle. Fries were a little greasy and limp and the hot dog with sauerkraut was very ball park basic. But if you're just passing through and need a refreshing way to soak up this historic gold mining town, you could do a lot worse.

Mar E.

Yelp
I was lucky enough to be here for the inaugural "taco Tuesday " ! They offered carne asada and carnitas tacos...I enjoyed the carne asada, paired with a great IPA...

Steven W.

Yelp
Good beer and cool venue where you can see the brewing tanks. We got the slider burgers with fries. It's half bar and half picnic tables and patio area. Good options for kid's food too. Just no parking or I couldn't figure out a good spot to park but I'd go back.

Ryan H.

Yelp
looking for your menu, which isn't on your website either. As yelp needs more words to post a review, hopefully youll get the hint. When did you take the old menu down?

Kim O.

Yelp
This time we ordered 2 cezar salads. One with chicken, and one without. It took about 30 minutes. They were like the bagged kit salads from a grocery store. The dressing wasn't as good as a bagged salad kit. It was sad as we enjoy this dog friendly brewery.

Brandi K.

Yelp
Went here with some friends and our kids, the vibe is great, the food and beer were delicious! Staff is friendly as well. My only complaint is that it's a little confusing at first to figure out if it's open seating and if kids are allowed in both rooms or just the room away from the bar. Some more signage could be helpful maybe but overall we had a great time and I would definitely go back when in the area.

David K.

Yelp
This is about the food, not the beer which was delicious. The blue cheese burger was beyond greasy and so bordered on inedible. The falafel was over cooked and had a texture akin to sawdust. So, I'll be back for a beer, but food is out of the question.

jillian s.

Yelp
We came for a few amazing beers and ended up eating here too! We were shocked to find out the kitchen had only been opened two days prior. The food was great! The man who took our order was very kind and patient with us. We got the garden salad, fried chicken sandwich and the patty melt. All were very tasty and did not disappoint. The fries were extra crispy too. We always enjoy the laid back vibe at GVBC. We will be back soon!

Austin D.

Yelp
Went here for food and brews and they weren't open. Update your YELP hours please. Jesus.

Vicki R.

Yelp
Outstanding food and service. Loved sitting outside. The brussel sprouts were amazing. Highly recommend!

A E.

Yelp
I love Grass Valley Brewing! Their beers are delicious, I especially like the hazy, and I appreciate that they offer other local drinks like Gold Vibe kombucha. You can choose between indoor and outdoor seating, including a space that's partially open air but covered. The food is also great! I've had the ahi sandwich, the portobello sandwich and the veggie burger, and I like them all. Their events attract all kinds of people and I really love live jazz on the last Sunday of the month. It's a fun and friendly place to visit as a local or if you're just stopping through. It's great for lunch or a beer or both. (The seating inside could be more comfortable than the short stools and barrel tables ... super awkward, I pretty much never see anyone sitting at them. And the bar service is friendlier than the food service.)

Timothy W.

Yelp
I ordered a kids grilled cheese with american cheese for my daughter. When it came, it had a three cheese blend instead. She is picky and won't eat it without the creamy cheese So I walked up to the ordering counter and showed them the sandwich. I asked very nicely if they can please make another one with American cheese since that is what I ordered. The girl (who was sporting a huge black eye) at the counter told me that there was American cheese in the sandwich and refused to make another one. When I insisted that I ordered a grilled cheese with ONLY American cheese, all she said was I'm not going to argue with you about it. She was really rude and stared at me blankly like I was pestering her. I had to buy another sandwich, ordering the exact same thing that I ordered the first time, and sat there and waited 20 minutes. I walked up to the window to ask about it to which they handed me a cold sandwich. It has been a long time since I've seen such disregard any customer satisfaction whatsoever. They did not go out of their way to accommodate, insisting they were right, and in the end, served something inedible.

Louie T.

Yelp
Good food, great beers. It is kinda loud. Big disappointment on my wife's burger. She asked for well done and it came out medium. Since we had so much food wanted a refund. Server didn't know how to give refund ($16 burger). Said there was no manager there. Odd for a busy Saturday night. Would probably come again. Nice outdoor area.

J H.

Yelp
This place was awesome for a date night. They had live music with improv during Monday night open mic- it was a fun atmosphere. Really enjoyed the peaches and cream milkshake sour. Also they have a really good seltzer. The red ale was pleasing as well. Overall enjoyed ask the different flavors. Highly recommend the Brussels sprouts plus the Belgian style fries are delicious. The pretzel bun burger is good- just feel like the pretzel bun is a bit overwhelming. Curious to try their lamb Greek burger though. Friendly service too.

Jeanne K.

Yelp
We just were wandering the street. Happened upon this place. Great friendly staff and bartenders! Great lunch! The Thai chili wings are amazing! They gave us great suggestions for dinner as well! A must stop!

Christina V.

Yelp
The beer is delicious & creative. Good food & good service. Ambience is relaxed, inviting and open to families, dogs and all ages of people with a variety of backgrounds. This place has a really great vibe.

Ami I.

Yelp
The staff is so kind, welcoming and generous! The beer selection is solid and we had sandwiches there. The sandwiches were simple but tasty and came out fast. Would highly recommend! And since I don't drink beer, they let me bring my own wine (I tipped the normal corkage rate of about $15 because they wouldn't charge for it).

Stephen M.

Yelp
The brewery is a nifty venue for live music. The first and last Sunday afternoon spots are relaxed and fun. A nice variety of brews. Definitely try the home brews. The GV IPAs I've tried so far were both delicious. Very fine wings and killer sliders (yes, add the bacon). I hope they add a a more dishes to the menu. Not too many more, and the dishes must be just as good.

Vaughnmarie G.

Yelp
Grass Valley Brewing- walking Distance from our hotel, The Gold Miners Inn is worth a visit. Plenty of outdoor and indoor seating with flights of beer and a good menu selection. I spoke with a couple locals seated next to us at the next picnic table and he gave me an interesting lesson on local history while we enjoyed tasting the selection of beers. Our food choices were salads, burgers, calamari and chicken wings and everything was served quick and tasty. I would definitely recommend you stop in while visiting Grass Valley.

Michael F.

Yelp
For beer, I would rate this place higher. But the food was mixed. I had a flight of beers. I had a few IPA's, red ale, and a stout. There was not a single beer that I didn't enjoy. I even purchased cans of the IPA's and brought them to a friend's bbq. Some of the beers have their gluten removed. If you want a cold drink on a hot day, I would definitely recommend this place as they also have ciders available. I was there with my fiancé and mother. My mother had a burger and my fiancé had a salad. They both enjoyed their food. I took a few bites of the salad and the veggies were fresh and flavorful. I ordered the buffalo wings and was very disappointed. The wings were very small and did not have a lot of meat on them. The meat was dry and under-seasoned. The sauce was thin and flavorless. I would go here again for the beer, but most likely not the food .

Steven H.

Yelp
It was an overcast day when bluster drove me into this unassuming brewery, seeking a provocative flavor and some local color. Sadly, that color was greyer than the clouds oppressing this quaint mountain town. Dreary eyed bartenders barely looked up from their stations at my approach, as if to surrender, "Yes, this is what we are calling craft beer." Meager brews compete with one another in a race to the bottom. Is it an amber? Is it an IPA? Who knows? They all taste the same. And who cares, as long as unassuming customers are buying? As for the food service courtesy of the new One Eleven kiosk, they are innovating new trajectories of ignoring customers and offering the bare minimum of service. Even on a slow night, staffers are trained to ignore requests that food be brought ten feet away to the bar, or even called out by name. Who cares if your tiny $23 sandwich is mummifying under a heat lamp? Didn't you get the texts? Look, its a nice room in a good location. So obviously things like "affordable food", "friendly service", and "memorable beer" can be relegated to low priority. Just sit in the pretty room on Main street, killing brain cells and pretending that all is well.

Tanya T.

Yelp
We always stop here when we are in the area, GVB is so delicious and has so many options. Haven't tried a beer we didn't like. The buffalo cauliflower is also the bomb! Give it a try. You won't be disappointed!

Denise J.

Yelp
This was my first time here and I was really impressed. I only picked up a 4 pack of beer...a post-hike necessity! Masks were required and social distancing was taking place. The gal behind the beer counter gave me great recommendations for cans when I told her our beer likes (one of us likes Pilsner style and one of us likes IPA). My sipping buddy was excited when I showed up with this four pack and the beer was tasty. We had Cloudy with a Chance of Haze for the IPA and Brunswick Blonde. The drinkers rated both beers delicious! GVB...thanks for practicing safe beer!

Tiffany M.

Yelp
I'm so glad that GV Brewing Company took over the kitchen! Adult beverages choices are still amazing but now that GVBC has control of the kitchen, things are delicious, reasonably priced, brought to your table and served correctly. Highly recommend!

Lucha O.

Yelp
Yummy beer, tasty garlic fries and dog friendly!! Great staff. Heaters in the brew house!

Mari E.

Yelp
Service was great , Food was very good , the place itself wonderful area , not too crowded and pet friendly

Austin H.

Yelp
Good beer, good atmosphere, dog & kid friendly, & the staff is top notch. Highly recommend if you are looking to hangout and have some brews with friends or family. It's located on a nice little historic downtown street that has different stores and restaurants to check out.

Anthony S.

Yelp
Awesome burgers! Amazing brew with a great selection. The Brussel sprouts were fantastic, highly recommended and I can't wait to return

Annie W.

Yelp
I have been a shut-in for 2 years due to a domestic violence situation, and I was just looking for a chill time out. I ordered one beer, and the owner wouldn't let me order another. They were so rude to me.

Stephanie R.

Yelp
I had lunch here for the first time, it was amazing. Their French dip was absolutely delicious. It is on a Dutch crunch roll, with what I think was thin sliced tip. They also melted brie into it, so it tasted like a cheesesteak! So good!! We had their sweet chili Thai fries, not sure if that's what they're called, but we're delicious as well. I would recommend getting them with something salty though, like chicken wings, or asking for crumbled bacon on top, they are very sweet! We also had the fish and chips, the beer batter was super thin and crispy, and not greasy at all, the fish inside was moist and delicious! Good job guys :-) anyone that knows me knows I am hard to please, I am very particular and feel as though my food should always be cooked properly, it's just kind of funny that most places never do. Will be back soon!!! We had a great waitress as well, she was great, nice, fast, and friendly. Everyone that worked there seemed happy and in a great mood, it was an overall great stop. Thank you for being exceptional!!

Cori S.

Yelp
Great beer , and a selection of wine, hard kombucha and seltzer! .....and the friendliest service ever! all of the GVBC crew go out of their way to get to know you and provide excellent customer service and smiles. Very kid friendly and dog friendly too Live music on some days... downtown, what more could you ask for? can't stay away. Love GVBC!
