Things to Do in Boston, December 2023 | Eater Boston

"I preordered hand-rolled bagels and schmear — including a bacon-and-scallion whipped cream cheese — and tried breakfast sandwiches like the Pulaski Skyway (Taylor ham, egg, and cheese on a plain bagel) and the Brooklyn Phish (scallion cream cheese, smoked salmon, tomato, red onion, and capers on a plain bagel)." - Nathan Tavares

Google
Normally I love this place, but was very unhappy with my purchase today. Spent 11$ on 2 plain bagels with cream cheese, one with strawberry. The strawberry cream cheese has an off flavor today(?). Has a weird aftertaste like a cleaning chemical was sprayed in or around it. Don’t even feel comfortable finishing after the first couple bites. The prices are already high, but with this kind of quality, that’s outrageous. Will not be returning. Edit: manager on the phone said thanks and sorry but hung up without any concern or follow up. Unprofessional

Google
My children start their weekend wanting to eat at Grateful Bagel. Always extravagant with avocado, seeds, fresh cool cream cheese. Delicious!

Google
Pretty good bagel spot, but very overpriced for what it is. I’m not a fan of the no seating situation, you kind of have to take the bagel to go

Google
ok bagels, but both locations are really filthy. like, how is this place still open?, filthy. both locations frequently have homeless people begging for money or coffee. seen them smoking crack or something right outside the front door at joe’s a few times at their table. not a good start to my day. i quit going to both after i saw the fans lurking over me at both locations. i found a new coffee spot that’s clean. good riddance.

Google
I am a Sonoma County local and absolutely love the Grateful Bagel in Sebastopol. However the Santa Rosa location feels like it’s ugly step sister. Appears to be neglected by the owners and management. Every time I order from the SR location, I am met with poor service. However I do not blame the three teenagers trying to earn minimum wage, I blame management for the obvious set up for failure. These kids are doing their best with the experience and knowledge that they have. Truly a bummer watching a place with such potential being treated so poorly. I hope that the owners/management can find a better way to support their staff and ultimately give the place the attention and energy it deserves.

Google
Great bagels and bagel sandwiches! Whole place is super cute and atmosphere is amazing. Such a great little nook!

Google
This place is a nice small place. I absolutely love the coffee here and the people are so sweet. I ordered a coffee one time and while heading out i dropped it and walked back in embarrassed and ordered another. The girl was really nice and made me another on the house saying that these things happen.

Google
Came in Sunday Morning(July 9th 2023 at about 1:30pm)for two everything bagels(one with cream cheese and one grateful eggle with cheddar)…. Needless to say that is not what we got. 2 plain bagels with Swiss cheese is what we got. We use to own a restaurant down the street so I often stopped in. We tried to call and the young lady simply laughed over the phone. It’s a shame to see one of down towns better locations take such a turn for the worse, problem coulda easy been fixed if the staff had simply called to say “hey we don’t have the items you want” but that never happened.

Yelp
Masterful tuna avocado melt! The owner is quite proud of how she makes them and it's well deserved. I was going to take it to my car to drive and eat, but I had to sit down immediately to just enjoy it without the distraction.. I've had sesame bagels mostly, with cream cheese, lox or just butter. I'm not from New York so I don't compare them. I just enjoy their style, not too dense, a nice crunch when toasted, and they are always generous with their ingredients and with the bagel toppings. A busy and hard-working staff, especially in the morning, but they are always efficient and friendly. Only one small table outside, but there are other places around to sit, including a Park Plaza.

Yelp
Called to see if they had pesto bagels but decided to leave me hanging on the phone for 5+ minutes while the lady was just having a full on conversation with a customer.

Yelp
A cute little breakfast spot! The vibes inside were great and the menu is pretty extensive! Everything from the bagel to the contents were customizable, and there is a vast selection of different beverages as well! I got the bacon eggel (bacon, egg, and cheese) on a sesame bagel, and it was super delicious. It was little heavy on the egg, and personally I'm not a big egg fan. If you do like egg (or a little extra protein) then then this is definitely the place for you! We also got the wild boar (smoked ham, egg, and cheese) on sesame as well, which was also great! I would recommend trying if you are in the area!

Yelp
This is a quaint little shop offering bagels, croissants, sandwiches, coffee, etc. Fast, friendly service. Good food. Great little place that adds a special charm to the downtown Santa Rosa neighborhood. Give it a try.
google avatar

Yelp
The Bagel part is a definite, Bread Puck .It's not real even a bagel made formally like it was previously. However it's cute and makes a fair breakfast sandwich. The Bagel is off my list as it's a disgrace to the word , BAGEL! and Grateful Dead ! ( I believe a Dead Head originally started it and they used a completely different ( more authentic w a high gluten flour) These are wonder bread !

Yelp
Well another bagel place in Santa Rosa that's horrible. Ordered two espresso drinks that never showed. Went to Starbucks because I could get a coffee. This makes me sad. Took 20 min just to get my money back.
google avatar

Jill E.

Yelp
The bagels here are good. Not the best I've had but not the worst. I do like the flavoring options they have and everything seems to work well together. However, I do question how sanitary everything is. The place doesn't look overly clean and maybe a tad disorganized, and the bagels do take quite a while to prepare. Probably wouldn't go back here unless I was really hungry.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped by here in the morning of the Santa Rosa Marathon. There was a bit of a line but it moved quickly. I got the croissant and a bottled drink. The bagels all looked good. The croissant was nice and fluffy. I would return in the future
google avatar

Jimmy C.

Yelp
Absolutely horrible service. They look bothered when you come in. This isn't the first time. Whether they are in deep conversations or just not looking at the front of the counter .

Trudy M.

Yelp
I don't know how this place has 4.8 stars on door dash. This morning I ordered a bagel & cream cheese with added avocado and a Vietnamese coffee. The bagel and cream cheese was missing cream cheese, which is pretty vital to have to make it a bagel and cream cheese and not just a bagel. In addition the avocado was very brown, and no where did it list that the avocado would come with pepper or anything else on it. It looked unappealing and it's frustrating to order such a basic thing and have it completely messed up.

Alex C.

Yelp
Really cute underrated bagel shop in the heart of Santa Rosa. Fantastic bagels and the Lox Lady is to die for. Drinks are good and what you would expect from a dedicated boba shop. The owners are very friendly and the service is very quick. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a quick bite
google avatar

Paullette A.

Yelp
Bagels are good and reasonably priced. The staff is friendly and they have a good selection of bagels available.

Alex G.

Yelp
I asked for a bagel with butter. They gave me a bagel with cream cheese then told me they would refund it. I came back half an hour later because it wasn't refunded and when I asked for the refund, they said there's not much they could do and I let them know that I was planning on coming here every day as I open a new business around the corner, it was my favorite bagel spot until I felt like I was robbed
google avatar

Miss T.

Yelp
Vietnamese coffee is righteous Bagels in many different flavours, it always smells so good in here. The staff is friendly, it's an all around great place. FYI - no seating inside.

Brea B.

Yelp
The food was ok. We ordered bagels for delivery this morning and the bagels were soggy and caked down by the time they got here. They had little flavor and were just SO dense. The sausage and eggs on the inside was fine, as was the cream cheese. I will go back in person to see if there is a difference.
google avatar

Maureen S.

Yelp
We ordered several sandwiches from grateful bagel. Something didn't taste right. After examining the the egg we noticed mold inside of it. We tried to call the store and gave me the managers number. She was unwilling to do anything about it and said well the ages should be KINDA fresh. She states they leave them in the fridge for several days! She tried to tell us that it wasn't mold, which it clearly is. We all felt sick after we ate from there. Stay clear from this place!
google avatar

Jeremy C.

Yelp
Would leave 0 if I could for the staff alone. Not to mention the sanitation issues of the interior of the place and staff. I get it you want a lazy job so you choose to toast premade bagels for a living, but to make them completely wrong all together then laugh at the customer who calls is wild. As a chef and former restaurant owner I'd have had a post for new staff up already for the lack of respect these girls have for their company and customers. I use to frequent the place often since I had a restaurant down the street. Been awhile since I had stopped in and was over due for a stop, needless to say it's gone to shits and I won't be back. Lucky Sebastopol location is still top tier food and service, Santa Rosa down town maybe be a lost cause at this point? Or maybe some sort of management and training is needed
google avatar

Trini L.

Yelp
Not sure why this has so many bad reviews but this is my favorite bagel spot ever!! They have the freshest bagels and amazing cream cheese options. I always get a dozen bagels and jalapeño cream cheese x2. Only problem is if you don't order in advance, the line is pretty long and sometimes out the door. I've seen up to 2-3 workers at once and it seems like they get pretty busy fast which can take a while with your order so I recommend ordering on the phone before picking up to save you some time if you're in a hurry.

Nancy H.

Yelp
Got a bore bagel and it was more egg than anything else and the egg was slightly green. I tossed it out. On another occasion I ordered a bagel and they burned it. They need to lower the temperature of the toaster.
google avatar

Irving L.

Yelp
This place has a very friendly staff that produces a very neat product. This business also took covid precautions very seriously and limited the amount of people who came in. The assortment of cream cheese here lacked flavor and are spread out very thin on the bagel. To make it worse, the bagels are expensive and don't reflect the price in what you're given. 3 bagels and 2 coffees came out to $30 which I wasn't expecting. We also had to wait 15 mins for the order to be done which is unfortunate because I need fast service in the morning. This spot was decent but I will need something thats worth the price and a tad bit faster for my morning food.
google avatar

Claudia R.

Yelp
Excellent service, happy staff and delicious coffee with soft and toasty bagels the location is accesible and had a lot of parking at 10:00am, so we parked and sat in one of their tino tables for a bit.

DiAnne H.

Yelp
We ordered the bagel with lox Shamar absolutely no lox big tome rip off. My grandson drove 30 minutes to get a bagel with lox shmer. Worst experience ever
google avatar

Nicole S.

Yelp
Delicious breakfast sandwich and coffee! They have many bagel sandwich options and allowed me to substitute a croissant in my egg and cheese sandwich and it was very tasty! The sandwich had a large portion of eggs and was filling. During COVID they are limiting store capacity to 2 customers and will bring your order outside when its ready. Our order was ready quickly. Employees were wearing masks and provided hand sanitizer. The coffee was very good and organic! Their location is great, in the heart of downtown Santa Rosa nearby many restaurants and shops. Parking was available and free.
google avatar

Natasha K.

Yelp
Omgsh the bagel was a perfect bagel. I mean soft creamy cream cheese smothered on a garlic and cheese bagel. Toasted on the outside, soft on the inside. I love it when it's not bulky, almost like it's been pressed like a panini. This decorated blue brick and mortar is one of many shops on 4th in downtown SR. Conveniently it's located next to my lash spot so it makes perfect sense for me to come back. Service is grate, food is grate, location is grate. Super grateful for this bagel!
google avatar

Joanna F.

Yelp
Nice folks, great flavored cream cheeses! They make sandwiches to your specifications and have cool daily specials

Karisa G.

Yelp
Beautiful little shop with so many options for bagel types, toppings and sandwiches. I stared at the menu for awhile to determine what I wanted. I got a blt bagel with avocado and it it's major quality. The cashier was very nice and fast making my food. The place was sort of hard to find. Very hole in the wall, but I searched for it and it was worth it.
google avatar

Jeff D.

Yelp
Grateful for Grateful Bagel, especially for breakfast bagel sandwiches! I'm making GB my daily provider of delicious meals! Through DoorDash, I don't remain hungry for long!
google avatar

Tamara M.

Yelp
You really can't go wrong here. If you're in the downtown area looking for a quick pick up of a simple, yet delicious bagel sandwich, egg sandwich, or a basic bagel with cream cheese, Grateful Bagel is the spot to go! They're stocked with Guayaki, juices, tea, or coffee. The people that work there are always so kind, and sometimes they do get super busy and with only 2-3 people working at a time, they can only crank out so much so fast. Worth the wait though!
google avatar

Amanda G.

Yelp
Not a great bagel with slow service. Look elsewhere for your bagel fix. It was underwhelming at best.

Katy K.

Yelp
they have the best bagels I've ever had in my life. The service is subpar called for about 2030 minutes. Multiple times phone was picked up slam down. I get there less than 10 minutes later. Three girls looking pretty standing around doing absolutely nothing. Not making an order they just were lazy and didn't want to answer the phone. I know you've worked there since you were in high school but come on learn how to actually be a service person and make food instead of applying make up. Like I said, I've loved this place since I was in high school but the service is so bad. Don't ever try to call in an order.
google avatar

Kevin L.

Yelp
I didn't know what to think at first honestly. The bagel was nice and soft and the inside of the sandwich tasted good. The lunch meat was defiantly unimpressive. The big thing was that the bagel itself was suppose to be blueberry yet didn't have any taste other than bread. I did upgrade the rating for the bread though, it tasted like a great plain bagel.
google avatar

Jade G.

Yelp
I've always gotten my bagels here for years now the staff is always really nice super fast even when they have a long line. Everything is really fresh my favorite is always the onion bagel and the garlic bagel, I get the divines wine and always add lettuce and tomato on it it's super good they accommodate for people as well. Always got my order right as well the staff always kills it
google avatar

Ellie T.

Yelp
The bagels are okay but I ordered wild berry cream cheese on my bagel and got what you see in the photo. How is that ok?
google avatar

Shannon H.

Yelp
The bacon turkey melt. No cheese, no bacon, no tomatoe. Just a few onions and small slice of turkey for $15. Absolute garbage.

Jesse B.

Yelp
The basics of respectful social interaction are lost on the workers here. They chit-chat between themselves and ignore customers as they are waiting to order. There is a restroom down the hall that says "Customers Only" for all the businesses in the plaza to use. This is the only business there that won't let their customers use it. After I ordered, I asked to use the restroom. The worker said it is for employees only, then she grabbed the key and walked down to the restroom and used the restroom herself. Strange.
google avatar

Debbie S.

Yelp
I went in for a bagel. The shop is pretty dirty if you look around it's grimey. Walls and floors are gross. But that's not what the one star is about. In the bagel case there were at least 3 flies inside on the bagels. It was disgusting
google avatar

Rose C.

Yelp
I came here while visiting friends in the Santa Rosa area before going to the river. The bagels were reasonably priced (especially for the west coast). We came here a few days after California's re-opening day and they had a sign asking us to continue to wear our masks when inside the store and wait for our bagels outside the store, all fine by me! My only real complaint was that it was confusing to my friends and I which bagels they had in stock, they had the case in front of us with the bagels that we could see but they said they did not have some that were clearly in the case and seemed confused on what they had in stock as well. The bagels though were great! I just got a poppy seed bagel toasted with plain cream cheese. The bagel itself was delicious with a great flavor. My friends enjoyed their bagels as well. One of my friends tried their bacon egg and cheese bagel on a Asiago bagel and said it was absolutely delicious and that she would be coming back!

Yelp
So my cat cost me an additional 50 cents this morning..but more on that later. Ever since moving to Santa Rosa, I have been in search of a 5 star bagel. Sadly, I have to yet find one that really blows me away. However it does appear there is a lack of bagel shops and it's something that us in East Santa Rosa sorely need. Enter Grateful Bagel. Overall, a decent bagel that isn't overly chewy but something that a New Yorker wouldn't bother with. But for me, it does the trick, with enough flavor and plenty of flavor options that will keep me coming back. A couple of drawbacks. 1. The staffing levels are pretty minimal, so if you are looking for a quick stop it will not happen. 2. Parking (this is where my cat comes in). During the week, the meters do not kick in until 10:00 AM, but my cat decided to sleep on me till 9:50 which meant I had to drop three quarters in the meter for just 30 minutes of parking which barely allows enough time to grab a bagel and walk over to Peet's. But there are some good things too. 1. Friendly staff, even at their busiest they always have a good attitude and very welcoming. 2. Lots of delicious spread options. Again, not completely blown away by Grateful Bagel, but it's good enough.

Yelp
Simply yummy great bagels and smears everyone I recommend to this place love them..
google avatar

Ryan S.

Yelp
Ordered a Beggin Eggel sandwich and picked a bagel from the case. After standing around a few minutes waiting on my order, I'm told that they're out of the bagel that I picked because it was used for a call-in order instead of mine. Slightly frustrating (maybe work on the communication among the staff?), but fortunately the alternate bagel I picked was pretty solid. Unfortunately, the eggs and bacon were another matter. I get that most bagel shops microwave their eggs, but these were dense and rubbery. The bacon was similarly tough and chewy. At nearly $10 with add-ons (cream cheese instead of sliced cheese, add spinach and onion), I'll be looking elsewhere for my egg sandwich fix. Chai Latte was watery, and also overpriced, IMO ($7+ with oat milk and a shot of espresso).

Kyle P.

Yelp
4 stars But the bagel sandwiches are all worth 5 stars. Probably the best breakfast bagel sandwich you could find. Would get 5 stars if the price was not so steep. $12 for a breakfast bagel Sandwich. Ouch, but it is worth it once a week for me. Definitely worth checking out !!

Helen 1.

Yelp
I don't recommended this place unless you're hella desperate for food. The banh mi used to be my favorite here but since new ownership they have been hella cheap about the amount of meat and size of bread. Like a kid's size. The only good thing was the thai tea. Just want to help someone out before you're disappointed on your lunch
google avatar

Kelli H.

Yelp
Somehow, after living in the area my whole life I had never tried Grateful Bagel until today. I'm glad I finally did! Really fresh bagels. We tried a bagel egg sandwich, a pizza bagel with cream cheese and another bagel with cream cheese and lox. All really tasty and also got a latte which was perfect, not too sweet. Reasonable pricing, will definitely be back in the future and try more
google avatar

Ericka A.

Yelp
Oh my god! I work near by! && I was so happy to find this place! So yummy! The burgundy is my current obsession! Will definitely work my way through the menu!
google avatar

Jo M.

Yelp
BEST CHAI hands down. I love coming here for my bagel and chai. Bagel sandwich's are very good staff is always nice
google avatar

Jon F.

Yelp
Got ham, egg, and cheese on jalapeño bagel. It was solid. They are to go only. Good for grabbing a quick breakfast to go. Not a place to sit and have a cup of coffee.
google avatar

MJ L.

Yelp
My husband and I have been here maybe three times and have enjoyed the bagels each time. I got a sandwich for the first time this past Sat and it was delightful. I do enjoy the crunchiness of the cucumber and raw onion that is added to the sandwich. The only note I have is that the space is really hot every time we go there so its a little uncomfortable to eat there. But if you take it to go your golden.
google avatar

Kat C.

Yelp
Such a friendly staff! The bagels are a guaranteed great meal every time. I come here multiple times a week!
google avatar

Stephanie A.

Yelp
Decided to give this place a go, as I searched for a delicious breakfast bagel sandwich. Thanks to good ol Yelp, my trusty Tacoma, Electra took me here. I just can't go back to Sonoma Valley Bagel (For a magnitude number of reasons, if you're curious, yelp em) I paid .20 for parking to get me 12 minutes as I jet in and out. All of the bagels looked very inviting and decided to choose the Mediterranean adding a Jalepenio garlic spread. As I watched this great creation being assembled, I was quickly turned off to see my eggs come out of a Kool-aid jug. I began to wonder, "Are those real eggs? Or highly processed Egg Beaters containing 31 ingredients and additives?" I'm beginning to doubt these were far from local, free range or fresh. After I watched the liquid egg fountain come out of the jug and be popped into the microwave, I became even more turned off. I took it to-go because the dining atmosphere wasn't warm and cozy. I got home just a few mins later. I was getting ready to bite into my toasted bagel breakfast sandwich and disappointingly it lacked crunch. Nothing crunchy about the toasted bagel. Just soft as a sponge...... I took 2 bites and just couldn't eat anymore. I split the other 3/4 of this breakfast sandwich to my 3 dogs at the kitchen table. All 3 dogs were overall pleased with no complaints. My search continues for the ultimate breakfast sandwich.
