Grater Grilled Cheese

Grater offers their superb grilled cheese with a variety of meats. On this occasion we tried the Philly steak and Nashville chicken, along with parmesan fried. Beef was done well with peppers and the Nashville chicken on the spicy side. Definitely a great place for lunch and even dinner.

I’ve been coming to the Grater Grilled Cheese in Irvine for about two years now (probably close to 20 visits!), and it never disappoints. The grilled cheese is always perfectly crispy and gooey, and the carne asada fries are seriously addictive. I can’t go without ordering them every time. The staff is always friendly, the food comes out hot and fresh, and the quality has stayed consistently great. One of my go-to comfort food spots in Orange County!

So good! Service was fast and friendly. They had a good special also. We tried Philly Cheese grilled cheese, basic 5 grilled cheese and the Country Mac N’ Cheese. Both were pretty good with crunchy sourdough and soft center. Can they all be our favorite? Maybe so!

We were Super hungry, but on the go. We saw there was a jimmy Jon's in this plaza and spotted this place while turning in. We had been to another restaurant in this plaza which was overpriced and bougie, but we thought we'd try it anyway. The menu looked good. We used the kiosk, and I was glad we did because all of the options to customize your sandwich cost extra. I ordered a chicken pesto grilled cheese on sourdough with parmesan crust. My husband got some kind of smash burger grilled cheese also with a couple of options and a $4 fry. We sit down and food does come fairly quickly. Portion sizes were a bit small including the fries. Food was decent and had good flavor, but didn't justify the high price tag. If you are a grilled cheese connoisseur this place could be for you. We got out of there for $48, should have gone to the jimmy Jon's

We ordered ahead via the website. Employee was very friendly and the food was ready earlier than scheduled which was nice. Our kids loved the Mac n cheese.

So, I recently tried the Nashville Hot Grilled Cheese at Crater in Irvine, and let me just say, it was amazing! The chicken had a nice kick of heat, while the coleslaw added a tangy and refreshing element. The buffalo fried chicken, tangy coleslaw, and pickles really sealed the deal on this grilled cheese. The staff working there were friendly and welcoming. They made me feel right at home and were happy to answer any questions I had about the menu. The place itself was clean and cozy, with a laid-back atmosphere that made it a great spot to relax and enjoy some good eats. If you're a grilled cheese lover like me, you've got to give this place a try. The combination of flavors, the friendly service, and the inviting atmosphere make it a winner in my book.

Yummy, yummy, yummy! I ate a delicious grilled cheese with lobster. The staff was amazing and very friendly. I am a pescatarian, I only eat seafood. They had selections for vegans and accommodations for all of your health & wellness needs. Even the customers inside the store were friendly to us. It’s very clean inside the restaurant and your food comes out hot and cheesy! Plenty of different selections of burgers and other food items as well. I love you greater grilled cheese ❣️💕

THANK GOD I DONT LIVE NEARBY!! hahahha this place is beyond amazing!!!!! I had gotten poke next door at bay poke and have always wondered about this place. WOWOWOWOWOWOWOOWW. I was so pleased to inform it was amazing!!! I did the chicken pesto but instead of getting pesto, I got garlic aioli and chipotle aioli, add grilled onions! Woahggh hahhaa I forgot all about my poke bowl and enjoyed my sandwich! The service was interesting, you do the order on a screen which sucks because you can't ask anyone questions. It'll be on them when technology takes over. Lmfao. The vibe is cool , it was empty, I would eat outside. Still check them out! But dont over do it, do exactly what you like!

Grater Grilled Cheese caught my attention when I was on the plaza for other reasons. Who can say no to grilled cheese after all? So, of course, I had to stop by. The place itself is fine. Clean, friendly, simple. I tried their chicken grilled cheese pesto sammich, and it was really tasty solid sandwich, well made, no complaints about the flavor. But here's the problem... As tasty as the sandwich was, I just don't see how this place can survive long-term. Once you're done paying tax and tip, you're easily at $20 for a sandwich and that's without sides. The portions aren't that big either, so if you actually want to feel full, you'll end up spending $25-30 for just a sandwich and a pickle. Ehh no thanks. Include a side dish at least for that price. At that point, I'd rather just sit down at a proper restaurant and get a full plate of food. So yeah, it's good if you're craving a grilled cheese once in a while, but I don't see myself becoming a regular. You make your own call.

Cheesy goodness hits the spot! I love me a melty grilled cheese, this spot is great! I had the Smoked Belly Grilled Cheese, perfectly buttery, lots of cheese, nice and smoky! Located near a bunch of offices, parking is pretty bad during the lunch rush, so plan accordingly. The service was super quick, they had my sandwich ready in no time. Quick to grab and go, but there's clean indoor seating with plenty of seats if needed too.

Omg I have never had such good patty melts until I tried out Grater. I found them on DoorDash and wasn't expecting much when I ordered. I loved every single bite of what I ordered. I didn't think I had it in me to devour two sandwiches and soup all in one sitting by myself. Everything was just THAT good tasting. Although I have problems digesting lactose, it was worth the pain and suffering afterwards. I think I may take a break from eating ramen and seriously considering ordering from them again tomorrow.

Food is delicious Would help if they'd update their google or yelp page to reflect more accurate open times. States they close at 7 but apparently they close at 6 on certain days when I called

This place is amazing! I need to go back to try out more. I got the mushroom truffle grilled cheese and my partner got the fiery torta grilled cheese. Both were incredible

We came here during the week, on a Wednesday for lunch and there was no one in the restaurant so we got to order right away. We ordered the Lobster Grilled Cheese and the Philly Grilled Cheese with a side of fries. When I went to go find a table, I wasn't satisfied with the table seating. Seats could use a little TLC and the dining area is a bit too intimate for my liking, so we settled to sit on the bar stools, close to the register which can be uncomfortable. Our food came out in good timing. There was lots of flavor in my Lobster Grilled Cheese and I especially liked the fries.

Wow! I went to Starbucks for coffee and I don't like getting their overpriced blah sandwiches and saw this place on Yelp so gave it a try. The Pastrami Grilled Cheese Sandwich was sooo Delicious! It was on sourdough gluten free bread too! Can't wait to come back and try other sandwiches, all of them look sooooo good! Philly grilled cheese, avocado grilled cheese, chicken pesto grilled cheese... Great service too! Can't wait to come back for the next meal.

It might have been an off day, but they were understaffed, I purchased a fountain drink with my meal, and only after I asked for my cup the employee said, "Oh, we don't have any ice." Well, ya coulda told me that before, son! Anyway, I tried the drink without ice and it tasted like something I'd probably get banned for saying. On a good note, I asked him to swap my fountain drink for a canned one, which he did with absolutely no issue. Took a while to get food. I was expecting cheesy yumminess heaven. I got a mediocre sandwich that wasn't nearly worth the price I paid. The onion rings were okay. Would I NOT recommend this place? Well, it could be better on a different day. It WAS the lunch rush. Will I go back? Probably not. But I don't usually eat out, either.

It was okay. Tried the a Philly. It was definitely nothing like a good Philly cheesesteak. It was a good grilled cheese with meat but not a Philly.also was very salty

2 stars for employees being friendly, but that's about it. We ordered the avocado grilled cheese and pork belly grilled cheese. The avocado had about a tablespoon of mashed avo, 1 slice of bacon cut into smaller pieces, a MOUND of arugula (I'm guessing to bulk it up), minimal cheese, and too much sauce that made the sandwich soggy. Pork belly has a lot of toppings that made the sandwich disintegrate while you ate it. Sweet potato tots had a Thanksgiving vibe, very sweet with cinnamon, not our preference. Lots of gnats hovering over our food while we ate, and the state of the shop could use some work. For what is being charged they could probably repair the seating area. Bathroom was clean but had trouble getting the "hands free" items to work, including the water, paper towels and trash.

Great spot for grilled cheese. Nice thick bread perfectly toasted. Really like their new breakfast menu but I wish it could be all day because I love eggs. Tried their: Bacon Melt - I really liked it. On par with more egg focused places. LA pastrami - bomb pastrami grilled cheese. Really like the chunks of pickle in it Breakfast Mac - it was ok Hash rounds - really good. Would prefer some sort of loaded breakfast hash rounds. Definitely pull up if you're in the mood for a good grilled cheese!

Came here on Saturday with 2 kids. They shared a "5-Cheese" special, and I had the pastrami, and we split an order of sweet potato tots. It was a disappointment all the way around. The kids 5-cheese was decent, indeed the highlight. The pastrami was thin with little meat. The sweet potato tots were subbed for sweet potato fries without asking us. The restaurant was loud with metal music; I'm ok for a good jam, but this was crazy loud. Want to use the bathroom? Sorry, it's out of service (where are the staff going to the bathroom?). Want to sit in the booth? Sorry, they have been slashed LONG ago, and never repaired. Won't be coming back.

Stopped by craving something cheesy and carby, and Grater Grilled Cheese really delivered. It was my first visit and the menu had so many tempting options, but I went with the mac & cheese and parmesan fries, both hit the spot. The mac was creamy and comforting, and the fries were crispy with just the right amount of parmesan. Alexis handed me my order and was super quick and considerate, which made the experience even better. Great food, friendly service, and a clean spot. I'll definitely be back.

Solid place for grilled cheese! I would have given if a five it my sandwich had way too much sauce on it, which kind of overwhelmed the other ingredients. Got the Chicken Pesto Grilled Cheese and was pleasantly surprised to find that the chicken was seasoned. The pesto aioli tasted like mayo and there was a lot of it, drowning the tomatoes and arugula. Overall it was a tasty sandwich. My husband got the Mushroom & Truffle Mac and cup of tomato basil soup, both of which he enjoyed. You could even taste the truffle oil in the mac! Will definitely come back again!

GRATE cheese place (pun intended). I had just finished the Whole30 Program, and this was the place my friends picked to have lunch. This was the best place for me to reintroduce my cheese group, and it was so perfect! We got the Avocado Grilled Cheese, Grater Fries, and a country mac to share. We were in a bit of a time crunch, and it was ready in less than 10 minutes. It was more than enough food to cram down in less than 30 minutes so we were full and even had delicious leftovers to take home with us. Now I really love potatoes, so I have to dedicate a paragraph to their Grator Fries, which they described as "Truffle Fries w/ parmesan and parsley." It tasted just as delicious as it sounds, and 5x better. I've never had a flat circular shape for fries, but I know why they do it like this now - because it's the way to do it! All the edges were crispy and fried to have that perfect bite we're all looking for in fries. It was more equivalent to tator tots for me than fries, so I would have recommended they call it like crispy discs or tater wheels or tot rounds or something like that. The Avocado Grilled Cheese was like a BLT panini with a heavy focus on the cheese and avocado, and now I can probably never go back to regular BLT. I wanted something with veggies, and it was made just like how you'd imagine a grilled cheese sandwich to be, but again, 5x better. The bread was the star of the show for me, and had that satisfying crispy crunch you'd expect when biting into a sandwich. Their Country Mac was so creamy, made with bechamel sauce and crispy bacon bits, and everything paired together very well. The cashier was friendly, and had our food ready in less than 10 minutes and they even recognized me when I went in to check on my order and handed my tray straight to me haha! The decor was very themed in bright yellow and orange and it just made me more excited for my cheese. Such a great cheesy experience, and I'd definitely come back for a second round of cheesy goodness!

Located in a plaza with ample parking and tables indoors and outdoors Quirky and mismatched decor but the food and service itself was great and pretty quick too. I got the birria Mac and was expecting it more red but it was still a light yellow color with birria meat, don't think consommé was incorporated - good regardless. They also have Happy Hour deals 2-6pm, 15% off mac and cheese and I think sandwiches? Some other options too

The food was great but especially the tomato basil soup! It was delicious! The staff is nice and go above and beyond to make sure you enjoyed your food. It's a small place but nice for lunch with a friend.

4.5/5 stars Build the grilled cheese of your dreams?! Yes please! I customized my grilled cheese with pesto aioli, arugula, tomato, onions, mushrooms, and lobster/krab ($17). It was huge! It was pretty cheesy, and the aioli sauce made it so tasty! It was a little greasy/heavy on the sauce and could have had more lobster/krab, but it was a very satisfying grilled cheese

3.5 stars Grater Grilled Cheese has multiple locations in the greater San Diego area and this one is located minutes from Irvine Spectrum. They have seating inside as well as lots of outdoor seating that is shared with nearby restaurants. CARNE ASADA FRIES ($13.99) - I liked the crispy fries and melted cheese. The jalapeños added a nice spice; while they're not at the level of the ones you would get at Mexican restaurants, this were decent. 4/5 LOBSTER MAC AND CHEESE ($13.99) - This was cheesy but I thought it could've used more spice or salt so I ate some jalapeños from the fries with this. It could've also used more lobster. 3.5/5 PHILLY GRILLED CHEESE ($13.99) - we thought this was just okay. 3/5 NY PATTY MELT GRILLED CHEESE ($13.99) - we both liked this one better than the philly grilled cheese, mainly because of the garlic aioli. 3.5/5 The grilled cheeses were okay and surprisingly our favorites were the non-grilled cheese dishes. The sourdough bread was fine and handled all the toppings in-between but the flavors just didn't pop out to us.

Scrumptious! It was my first time visit and I will be coming back! I ordered the Lobster Grilled Cheese Combo with Sweet Potato Tots. The cashier was very helpful and patient given my obvious ALS disabilities, he even offered to open my can of soda. The restaurant was very clean and super cute. Unsure if this place is under new management or ownership, but the laughable sandwich I just received warranted a poor review. That is literally all the chicken that was in the sandwich for a, ehemm, ehemm, CHICKEN sandwich. First time this has ever happened, as the sandwich normally had an actual breast of chicken in it, so they must just be out. Not ok.

I attempted to order food online and the staff placed me on hold for 5 minutes and did not pick up the phone after calling them 3-4 times. I went to the restaurant in person to just pick it up cause i was craving and there was nobody there and the staff were just sitting in the back doing nothing.

Really great breakfast/lunch spot if you're in the area! We got their hash brown rounds which probably was my favorite thing, I could have eaten the whole order cause I love hash browns. We also got their Bacon Morning Melt, which is a really great solid, hearty breakfast sandwich. We chose to get it with the sriracha aioli, I believe, and it was really good. Their L.A. Pastrami Grilled cheese was bomb too, I love pickles and it had pickles inside the sandwich. Good amount of pastrami too! They were pretty busy with orders when we arrived, so we waited a little while for our food but it was worth the wait! They also came by and gave us cookies because of the wait and that was so thoughtful and nice. Great customer service. Will definitely be back!

I don't normally crave cheesy foods but it looked tempting. I got the birria mac which was amazing, and it didn't make me feel full with the first bite. Also, it had a generous amount of birria and I loved how they added the onions. The veggie grilled cheese paired with the tomato soup side was delicious as well.

Comfort food at its finest...who doesn't love a good grilled cheese! The staff is friendly and accommodating! The location has plenty of outside seating that is communal for the entire plaza that could get packed during standard business lunch hours but there are a few small tables inside the shop. The smash burger and the buffalo fries are also good!

Ordering took forever, despite a very modest line. Once I reached the front of the line, the guy told me I could order from the digital kiosk, which I did. Thirty minutes later, I'm still waiting for my food. Not sure what's going on, but I'm not coming back even if the food is amazing (which I'm not expecting at this point)...

Only 1 employee in the whole store. Food takes about 25-35 minutes to make every time I come here.

Tried the Pastrami grilled cheese today. It was good don't get me wrong, but the value just isn't there. Almost $18 after tax () and you don't get a lot of cheese or pastrami Comparing to like, the Hat's Pastrami Dip or Burger, this sandwich is just incredibly overpriced.

Food was really nice and not too busy as well. Alexis and Frank were sweet and looked like they were enjoying their job. I felt welcomed and the place's entire vibe drew me in :)

Nice little grilled cheese place! Got the Philly cheese steak grilled cheese with a side of tomato soup and mac and cheese. Everything is fresh and hot. I like that there's customization and a set menu for ease of ordering. Parking is a bit busy but nice place to eat for lunch time. Friendly service as well :)

Via Door Dash - got their version of a patty melt; a carnivore. Disappointing! The burger looked, tasted and had the texture of a very compressed, low quality frozen patty. Yuck! The chicken Caesar salad was edible. This will NOT happen ever again.

Greater Grilled cheese is my go to when im in the area. They have delicious food always hits the spot you may think its just a grilled cheese but you have never had a grilled cheese like the ones here. Ordered the avocado grilled cheese and tomato soup. The cheese on my sandwich didn't seem to be fully melted but the sandwich still tasted good and had a balance of veggie, meat, and sauce. The bread was also perfectly crunchy. The tomato soup was also a good complement to the sandwich but it was unexpectedly spicy that it burned my tongue and mouth . I wasn't aware that the soup was supposed to be spicy and I feel like it was a mistake...

Very surprised by quality and taste of sandwiches. The lobster sandwich is very tasty and service is very great. Will be Recommending friends and family!

Good friendly service. Clean & modern spot. Kids loved the Smoked BBQ Burger & Mac & Cheese. I enjoyed the Philly Cheese melt. The cole slaw was a miss and too creamy for my taste. My son already asked to come back the next day. Thanks to the cousins who look like twins... you know who you are! Well done gents!

It was my first time here, and I ordered the mac & cheese. I asked for an extra fork since I was sharing, and they told me it would be $.50--seriously? That just rubbed me the wrong way. On top of that, the service was terrible. Definitely not worth my time, and I won't be coming back.
