A Food and Wine Lover’s Guide to the Loire Valley | Eater

"Gratien & Meyer is one of the largest producers of traditional method Crémants in the Loire Valley. Its Crémant de Loire Vintage Brut is made with a blend of chardonnay, chenin blanc, and pinot noir, and is filled with mandarin and floral aromas, as well as a bread note thanks to its lees aging. This isn’t a small, family-owned château: It has a sleek, modern tasting room and regularly throws events, like the Jazzbulles festival, at its sprawling hillside reception hall and balcony overlooking the Loire River. Gratien & Meyer also offers guided tours of its cellar five times a day from April until the end of September." - Lee Musho

Brilliant vinery nested in a beautiful Art Deco building, which produces one of the most delicious sparkling wines we tried in the Valley. The wine tasting experience with Nathan was great as well (many thanks to him for his attentive, extremely knowledgeable approach). The wine bottles look beautiful and would make a perfect gift for any occasion 🥂✨ P.S. We visited the place in the middle of September and arrived without a reservation and there was no issue at all.

Visited today with my family and sister from Philippines. We enjoyed our short visit I wish they can expand the visiting space, very interesting to know the history and educational for kids and we also enjoyed the wine tasting. We brought 10 bottles. Worth a visit and worth buying some! It's nice the pathway before the museum, very well maintained, there is public toilet in the area and They have parking space too. Merci!

Good tour and excellent wines

The location is fabulous, high on the cliff overlooking the Loire river. The wines are very good and worth a visit. Prices are really good, so a great place to stick up on your bubbles. The staff are always really pleasant, jovial and knowledgeable. Only a few minutes East of Saumur. The cave visit, in my opinion, is just ok, showing artifacts of the production cycle, but perhaps a bit static.

If you have time take a guided tour of the caves and find out how their lovely bubbly is made.

Great wine tour with Elise, who was very knowledgeable and spoke good English. Topped off with a super wine tasting of four different wines, all at very reasonable prices. Highly recommended.

30min audio tour for 3e was not bad. Best part was tasting. Young lady who looked after us was extremely knowledgeable. We tried most of the wines at no cost and even the young person with us was given an alcohol free drink. Obviously we purchased some wine, glasses and cool bags but these are reasonably priced too. Very pleasant afternoon. Well worth a visit.

Gratien & Meyer is France's premier sparkling wine specialist! Located on the high hills above the town of Saumur, the Chateau is a friendly place to spend an afternoon. All staff are knowledgable about their sparkling wines, and the vast majority are thoroughly fruent in English. The chateau produce a wide selection of wines - sparkling and still (tranquille!), from the oaky Flamme D'or (Golden Flame) to the sweet fizzyness of Cardinale - a highly recommended sparkling red wine, especially enjoyed in a glass with strawberries on a hot summer day. The Chateau Gratien & Meyer invite people for wine tasting all year round, any time of the day (they do not close for lunch). The wine caves are currently being renovated, but when they re-open in June they will be available to tour. The chateau hosts a famous Jazz festival every June which is worth checking out - jazz and wine on the hill looking down at the river and town of Saumur is a perfect way to spend a summer Saturday! All in all, I highly recommend Gratien & Meyer, especially to those visitors to the region who are not fluent French speakers, or those who know very little about wine. The chateau is friendly and accessable, in gorgeous surroundings and the prices are very reasonable (6 euros for an award winning bottle of Cardinale or Saumur Dry, prices from 3 euros to 15 euros). Do note: the chateau is on a steep hill - there is parking both at the top and the bottom, but if you have difficulty walking make sure you park at the top, it's quite a climb!
