Meatball sandwich was delicious. Just the right size and I loved the side of olives

My favorite local wine bar! Barb Gratta is the owner and winemaker. She sells her own wines as well as has a fantastic lineup of other providers. It’s a bar where you feel like everyone knows your name. As soon as you walk in, you’re greeted with a friendly smile and spot at the bar. I love her dolcetto and signature garage wine blend. I also come by for a nice plate of ravioli or tin fish dinner. It’s way better than regular bar food. There’s also a little market where you can pick up provisions if you need to take it to-go. I pick up gelato, pastas made in the neighborhood, canned tuna - it’s all here for you. Stop by and cheers a glass with the locals!

Enjoyed the mushroom and garlic ravioli after the volunteer Bayview community clean up.

Google
All the reviews do it justice. They started it as a hobby and it shows! It's homey but delicious and the prices are reasonable. The wines taste young but very flavorful! My fav was the petit syrah.

This is the definition of a gem, it feels impossible to find places like this outside of a small towns in Europe. Truly kind and great owners and staff. The food was excellent, the wine fantastic. This has become my favorite spot in the city.

Can’t believe I’ve taken soooo long to write this review. My 12yr old son and I LOVE Gratta. We’ve been fans for over 5 years! He has specifically requested to have his 13th birthday dinner at this location. He absolutely is a fan of Barbara’s pasta and marinara sauce. Her marinara sauce is her Italian grandmother‘s recipe. His other go to is the Parmesan chicken and he always make sure to Request pre-prepared food like their meatballs and marinara And other items from their Italian market. My go to is wine ( of course) And their Caprese Panini. I’ve also taken my mother, who can be a super picky person, to enjoy their food and she is also a converted fan :-)

Yelp
What an amazing find! My husband turned 85 and we were looking for local wine tasting. He had a flight of 3 and I tried the flight of 6. Barbara was so knowledgeable in her suggestions for wines to try. The pours are generous. The Gratta Zin is wonderful. Fruity, dry and full of flavor. We liked the small bites. Barbara created a flat bread pizza tailored to our tastes. Plus the gelato they carry is excellent. The real thing! It's such a sweet and comfortable space too. We felt like we found a San Francisco secret.

Yelp
A Hidden Gem in Bayview Gratta Wines is truly an amazing hidden gem in the our neighborhood (Bayview)! My wife and I love stopping by whenever we need a lightweight date night--it's become our go-to spot. The wine variety is fantastic, with something for everyone, and their small bites are always on point, perfectly complementing the drinks. When my wife was pregnant we would still stop y and hang out even if she just drank the non-alcoholic stuff. What really makes Gratta special is the warm, welcoming vibe. Barb and Cathy, who run the business, treat us like old friends every time we visit, adding a personal touch that's hard to find. They even feature local goodies, which we love exploring--it's a great way to support the community while enjoying an amazing experience. Barb is a true ambassador of our neighborhood and we love that! If you haven't been yet, you're missing out on one of the best spots in SF. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Hidden gem at the southern end of 3rd street. Small Italian plates and wines made next door with Dry Creek grapes. Super local atmosphere. You want to check this place out.

Yelp
Love this cute Bayview wine bar. Amazing, welcoming owners and staff and a good selection of wines and snacks. Also an adorable little market in the front to pick up cheeses, pasta, tinned fish and more! Gotta check it out.

Yelp
My hometown spot for a glass or one or two may be the whole bottle. It's thus one white wine I live, and when I crave, it comes through. Barbara is amazing. Always give me that extra slice. The food is really good too and I like that they use local sources. Writing this review hot me ready to go right now, but they are closed.

Yelp
We had never been here before although it's not far from the house. Fiancé said let's stop here for a night cap. We both had flights and the service is amazing. I had the Cabernet, Gavi, Petite Sarah and they let me taste the Zin. We will return again. Local hidden gem that needs more publicity.

Yelp
If I was hesitant to Yelp an off-the-beaten path gem, then shame on me. Why? I kind of want this place all to myself. Gratta Wines has become my go-to for wine, bites, and just good-ass service. Super neighborhood quaint, no frills, no fuss. Just walk up, order, and have a seat. As of now, we always get a seat :). It's just a lovely neighborhood spot, and in these uncertain times, we need to support our community! Not to mention, Gratta is women owned and operated. Show up once, they'll remember you and they treat you like family. In terms of wine, go for the Garage Blend! They actually make it in their garage!! I've had the Sangria too, and that's worth a go especially on a warm day. And when it comes to food, everything is AMAZING! Cheese plate, Olives with bread, Spinach Ravioli, Eggplant (when they have it), and PUHLEEZE get that pudding for dessert if you can. It has been sold out the past couple of times, so if go and they have it, would you call me? LOL. Local love to Gratta.

Yelp
Great service! Inviting staff and customers. When I entered and approached the bar, Barbara (the owner) greeted me warmly and asked me if I had been here. I said no, so she proceeded to introduce me to everyone at the bar. I ordered lasagna which was absolutely delicious and petite serah wine (Barbara's brand). The best experience.

Carmen A.

Yelp
Gratta Wines is a neighborhood and personal favorite. There is a lovely and inviting environment that is cultivated by the owners, staff and the community of regulars that come in. The wine is top notch, it's always on our list of gifts, as are the olive oil and vinegars they have bottled. The food is fantastic - chicken parm, meatballs and their French bread pizza are my go-tos. A very special place, so happy to have found it when we moved to the neighborhood!

Yelp
San Francisco's best kept secret. Come here for the vibe, Sangiovese and the cheese. Great prices and lovely staff.

Stuart R.

Yelp
Wonderful, intimate and charming. Barbara and her staff offer a warm and inviting experience with a wonderful selection of beverages including her own wine as well as a tasty selection of food to accommodate our picky tastes

Yelp
Upon walking into Gratta Wines, it almost feels like you are walking into someone's living room. It is small and intimate, and you get the feeling that everyone knows each other! Don't worry though, everyone is very friendly and welcoming, and you'll begin to feel like a part of the crew soon. The owner, Barbara, was very friendly and gave us some insight on the history of Gratta Wines. I'm not going to lie - I was skeptical/scared when I heard that she makes this wine in her garage. But this wine is good!!! Like way better than any winery in Livermore, and better than a lot of boutique wineries in Napa. On top of that, it's pretty affordable! Non-intimidating and unpretentious spot to enjoy some great wine in SF. I also really appreciate all they do for the Bayview community as well!

Yelp
The salad tastes even better than it looked! Please check it out at your earliest convenience - soon to expand! Support Butcher town business because they are food!

Yelp
This place is hands down the most wonderful community centric wine (and now general market/store too!!) location we've ever been to! Soooo happy that it's part of the community we now live in!

Yelp
Fantastic food and drink. Their Chicken Parm Sandwhich is, hands down, the best I've ever had. Great spot for a quick lunch or take home meals. Don't miss this spot!

Yelp
Great local spot run by lovely ladies. Enjoyed talking to locals at the bar. Loved the Cabernet! Hefty pours.

Yelp
What a lovely experience my husband and I had at Gratta wines and bar! Barbara is the best host, is the wine maker of Gratta wines, and is so knowledgeable about all the Italian wines! Their house petite Syrah is amazing and a must try!
google avatar

Yelp
Gratta Wines is the public face of the Bayview's garage winery. The atmosphere is cozy and all of the wines are made by the vintner, Barbara Gratta. Sharing a commercial space with Fox & Lion Bread, the bar is open Thursday-Sunday, generally in the late afternoon and early evening. But what I love best of all is the friendliness and welcome shown by the owners and by the customers - it's our own Bayview Cheers!

Darlene H.

Yelp
I visited Gratta Wines and tried their 5 wine tasting flight. They were all so delicious, it was a difficult decision to decide which bottles to purchase. The owners were so warm and friendly to all of their customers. They treat you like family when you walk in the door. I promise if you visit this winery, you will not be disappointed.
google avatar

Yelp
Love this local wine bar! Barbara and her team have transformed this space to feel like you just walked into a little wine bar in Italy. The wine and tapas are delicious and the little decorative touches are so cute!

Yelp
We were having a bite to eat between 2-3pm on a weekday at Café Envy and having a nice conversation with the owner, April, when she mentioned her friend Barbara who makes her own wine in her garage and opened a tasting room Gratta Wines. We expressed interest in checking it out but Gratta wasn't open until 5pm - sad , but one phone call and 5 minutes later we were walking up to Gratta and met Barbara the owner who was carrying boxes into her place, I imagine getting ready to open in a couple of hours. Needless to say, she greeted us and welcomed us in and gave us some pours of her delicious wines and told us where she gets her grapes from and how she makes the wine in her garage. We tried the Sangiovese, Garage Blend, and the Zinfandel which was my favorite of the three but wasn't coming out for another month..darn! The other two were delicious, also, especially the Garage Blend which is fuller bodied than the Sangiovese so we ended up buying a bottle to take with us back to Napa and enjoying it that night at our hotel. This place is a local gem. I could see coming here on any weeknight to unwind and catch up with a friend. It's small but she said she's expanding which is exciting. It backs up to a bread bakery which is awesome. I loved meeting Barbara and I will definitely be back if I'm ever in the area.

Yelp
Love Gratta! Barb and Cathy make the wine bar feel like a living room. It's cozy, comfortable and a great place for conversation with new and old friends from the neighborhood. Barb's wine is great and the food is amazing. The market on the corner can supply you with your Italian food cravings or last minute household needs. It's worth a trip across town or a walk down the street.

Yelp
We are new Bayview residents but this is definitely what I would consider a modern day neighborhood watering hole. The whole community gathers here (really it is such a secret if you're not a Bayview local). When you walk in, you get the atmosphere that everyone knows each other and are super willing to make friends. It was great to meet Barbara, the winemaker, and hear her take on her wines and how she produces them. We had a coupon for the tasting flight and especially enjoyed the Sangiovese and the Zinfandel. She also offers sangria pops, some light snacks, or if you want something heavier, you can just walk down the counter to Fox & Lion Bread and order a sandwich/pizza. We ended up ordering a pizza (also delicious) and enjoyed it with a glass of wine. Immediately after being seated, we were greeted by the other customers. Everyone was so friendly and really willing to have a conversation. We're so thankful we went and made some friends and we will definitely be back!

Yelp
I love the atmosphere and neighborhood feel. Everyone is so nice and the wine + food is great!

Yelp
Delicious wine bar and right next to fox and lion sandwiches salads and small plates. Fabulous home hewn Wines . A true garage start up. Wonderful locals to talk with and truly excellent red wines With enough tannins for good aging. Piedmontese reds gold country style zinfadel Tuscan and all northern Italy master wines. Delicious breads And occasional entertainment From quiet virtuousos from east bay adult folk homes. Unbeatable.

Yelp
I go to Gratta all the time, and not only is the wine good, the company is generally great. I consider this that winery where everybody knows your name. Even if you're not from here, Barbara (Gratta) is very friendly and can really make you feel welcome. I generally get the garage blend, and I hear the Rose is good but I missed the limited bottles. One tip: it's pretty great on Friday nights for a wine and pizza as Fox and Lion (pizza and sandwich in the same location) is also open
google avatar

Christina W.

Yelp
Gratta is special, so special we chose Gratta wines for our wedding last year. Barbara creates Italianish-Californified reds: I think my favorite I've tasted of hers was a Petite Sirah, but I've never been disappointed with any of them. She is warm and friendly and pours generously. Go support your local garage winery. You'll be happy you did.
google avatar

Amy K.

Yelp
I like to support small local business and Gratta Wines is worthy of my support. Barbara Gratta lovingly makes her wine right in the Bayview and her tasting room is a local gathering place. Gratta Wines is one of my go to places to buy wine before going to a dinner party. I also enjoy stopping by to visit and taste the current offerings.

Meghan T.

Yelp
I'm new to the area, and I heard great things about Gratta Market when I first arrived. I went and tried one of their paninis, and the bread was just awful and dry. They also don't make any of their own products there except for the wine, which is misleading because they call themselves an Italian restaurant, but all their food is outsourced except for a few frozen options. I sampled the 'garage blend' and it tasted like it came from a garage. Big disappointment.
google avatar

Peter D.

Yelp
Love this place. Locally made wine. Some days they get local made food in the evening for food and wine nights. Locals show up and have a great time. I wished I came here much sooner. Now been here two weeks in a row and I'll probably be back next week.
google avatar

kristin h.

Yelp
This is THE place to be in Bayview Thursday- Sunday- meet your wine maker, enjoy incredible ambiance created by Cathy, eat delicious food, meet your neighbors. Love this place.
google avatar

M M.

Yelp
My favorite "go to"in the Bayview for wine. Everything is locally made and the owner is very community oriented. It's a wonderful addition to the neighborhood.

Jessica R.

Yelp
Wonderful wine bar that I have missed visiting and enjoying a glass of their Garage Blend. Appreciate how they have adapted during these times. Their Italian Market is a great place to pick up cheeses, sauce, and pasta. Their ravioli is so yummy, especially the mushroom one. And never fear they have bottles to go
google avatar

Jean K.

Yelp
When we moved into the neighborhood this was one the first places we wanted to try. The wine is outstanding and Barbara is AMAZING. Great place to meet neighbors and enjoy some delicious wine and food. When we moved in Barbara was so warm and made us feel so welcome. She has introduced us to so many people in the neighborhood, all of whom are so kind and interesting! Ambiance is lovely- good for a casual glass of wine or a romantic date night. The food available is always amazing and local- whether it is Lasagneria night, Bayview pasta night or small plates, it is always better than I expect! I've also just picked up a bottle to enjoy at home and now you can even get it delivered through goodeggs. This place is a community and we just feel lucky to have it! Absolutely love this place!

Yelp
Go here!! Had the best sausage and pepper sandwich of my life. Serendipitous find. We were walking to the bakery on the hottest day of the year only to find it closed. But....the proprietor of Gratta was in the back corner of the bakery serving up small plates from behind a teeny tiny bar. Sold!! We were too hot to be picky. Glad we stayed. Met some very cool locals and spent a nice hour in the Bayview. We will return. Wine popsicles?! What a fabulous idea, yes please !!
google avatar

Earl T.

Yelp
My favorite wine bar. Great place to meet neighbors. Best meatball subs and garage made wine.
google avatar

Taylor T.

Yelp
What an amazing little gem in Bayview. You would never know it's in this neighborhood but I definitely recommend!!! They make all their wine here (I'm currently drinking the zinfandel) and have delicious appetizers like paninis and cheese plates. They also have pop-ups on weekends with cool restaurants. Stop by, drink some wine, eat cheese, and talk to fun locals.
google avatar

Deirdre G.

Yelp
This was such a treat! This tiny wine bar shares space with a deli on 3rd Street in the Bayview. The winemaker lives in the neighborhood and crafts her wines from grapes grown in Dry Creek in her GARAGE! If you want to do something really different, drop in at Gratta Wines. I recommend the Petite Syrah.
google avatar

Ina D.

Yelp
I have been a fan of Barbara Gratta's wine before she opened her tasting room in Butchertown Gourmet. I love the fact that she makes her amazing wine in her garage in the Bayview district and I love that she opened her tasting room. The room has evolved into a great place to meet neighbors and to sit at the bar and chat with Barbara.
google avatar

Lisa B.

Yelp
This place is amazing. The wines were really good. I recommend the rose and the garage blend. The owner is really nice. The wine bar is nice to hang out at and on Saturday they had a pop up pasta shop. All around great place. Would definitely come back again. Plus you are supporting a local biz in bay view :)
google avatar

DJ S.

Yelp
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Gratta Wine, but I'll let you in on a few. They make their wine in a garage in Bayview. They bring in food from nearby restaurants every Thursday. They pair with Fox and Lion Bread on Friday nights. Saturday might have a special event. Sunday, you guessed it is a great brunch time. I have been a loyal patron for a year now and am so grateful for the food I've had the pleasure of trying, the friends I have met and the wine that goes well with it all. A true neighborhood "Cheers".

Nick J.

Yelp
Wines are spectacular and the company is even better. Just go, you'll learn a lot about wine and you definitely won't regret it.

Geraldine P.

Yelp
Barbara Gratta greeted me warmly, felt very comfortable, had a glass of Pinot, delectable, my favorite purchase is the Olives, MUST try, simply delicious! A cozy, friendly wine tasting room. Plaudits for Barbara!
