This is a true hidden gem and what a nice surprise to find in Savannah. However, i just couldnt give it 5 stars solely based on the lack of organization and lack of staff here. I hope MGMT reads this and hires more people, your staff works hard and is overworked, but this causes long waiting times in the lobby/store area, people standing around, confusion and overall unorganized. let me explain.....
There are tour times listed, which is fine, but then due to lack of staffing, we got told to start at the end of the tour first with a different group. first, we waited about 10 mins in the store/waiting area. Then began the last exhibit with another tour ( the ed gein room). this portion of the tour was tops 10 mins to explore. Once we left, we were then told to stand in the waiting area/store area again. we were waiting for about 25 mins. this was because there was not enough staff available to give a tour, check people in, and keep the rest of the museum a float. after waiting 25 mins in the store, more people came in (awesome - good for business), but then we needed to wait for everyone to pay and check in. rules are then explained and we were brought into the "first room". This had a short guided tour and explanation about the museum revealed (back story etc). I loved this tour guide and information. we were in here for 15 mins then told we can explore. since we already did the ed gein, we went on our own. we explored and went up stairs to the next area. Once again due to lack of staff and organization, were waiting in yet, another room for the next tour guide and to be able to go to the john wayne gacy exhibit. this was about another 10 to 15 mins? im glad we had someone in here to ask questions if needed.
I am throwing a lot of numbers for time frame and complaints out in this review, but basically a tour that should have taken 45 mins tops, resulted in us being here for 2 hours+. Please note, this consisted mostly of us waiting around.
the 2 or 3 staff members running and holding it down are not the problem, they did their best. also they are incredibly informed on whats in the museum. i hope more people get hired or a new process can be executed to streamline the tours because this sucked.
PS we paid $25 for entry. I also bought 2 postcards at the end for an additional $5 or $7. They take cards.
otherwise, i think this is a cool and unique museum. the store itself is a work of art in itself, theres so much to buy and check out. its nice to find something to break up the eating and drinking while in town. incredibly unique and dark compared to the MET or MOMA in NY. Also, there are so many original pieces and actual items own (or created by) some of the murderers.
