12 Bewildering Hills Where Gravity Seems to Work in Reverse

"It’s best to be careful when driving along country roads—particularly if those roads are in Mooresville, Indiana. One could encounter any number of creatures or farm equipment on a typical country lane, but in Mooresville, you’re also likely to encounter basketballs, cars parked in neutral and maybe even a few curious pedestrians holding bags of flour—all at the bottom of one captivating hill which seems to be pulling everything upward, against gravity. Mooresville’s famous Gravity Hill (near Magnetic Acres) is an optical illusion, but it is a convincing one. If one were to put their car in neutral at the “bottom” of the hill (or place a ball in the road, for the safety-conscious), the hill will immediately start to pull it “up” - in the wrong direction, according to our old friend gravity. Legend has it that a school bus stalled at the bottom of this hill decades ago when it intersected with a railroad track, then was struck by an oncoming train, killing several riders. Nowadays, the locals will tell you that it’s the spirits of the children on that bus that push things uphill and out of harm’s way. They’ll even instruct you to sprinkle some flour on your bumper - in which the children’s fingerprints supposedly appear after you’ve been pushed to safety." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

One of the locals came out and allowed us to park in his driveway, very nice man, he also said that the road has been repaved recently, which greatly reduced how effective the hill is. For example most balls will no longer roll up the hill but immediately off to the side of it. Your car should still work but VERY slowly. Me and my friend found greater success on the hill immediately after it. Even made a cool youtube video about it - that said, ANOTHER local, who lives on the opposite side of the road, came out of his house yelling at us for filming the "wrong hill" even after wẹ explained that we were just trying to capture the optical illusion (because this is one of literally dozens of "gravity hills" all across the nation, its far from unique), he continued to yell at us and was quite rude. So look out for him I suppose, but otherwise a very fun pit stop.

To anyone checking out the 1 star reviews, they probably went to this exact location on the road and gave up. Ive been here twice and got to experience the phenomenon. Sometimes you have to just start in neutral and put your foot out and give it a push in whatever direction. it helped that i have a manual. tested it with the car completely off and it still rolled! it’s not going to be an acceleration though. you creep forward or backward depending on your direction on the road. still super cool.

Local legend says your car or motorcycle will roll UPHILL on this magical road. I've tried it, it works! Ok, it's simply a optical illusion that makes it look like you are going uphill when it is actually a slight downhill grade, but it's still cool.

We were not rolled up:) but it’s fun to test it out. Just be careful!!

This is a large hill on a very busy road. Local legend claims that gravity will pull a car or ball uphill! There are only a few times a year that the scientific "gravity" effect can be perceived. As a local resident, I ask you to be very careful on this hill. Please use flashers if you are going to take your car out of gear or stop. There is no shoulder on this road to pull over and stop.

I went and saw multiple world record sized objects I saw the worlds largest mailbox, barber pole, wooden shoes, pencil, and many others but out of all those things this truly was the worlds biggest, disappointment

Amaze your kids or grandchildren, this place will drop our jaw and make you rethink your science class all over again.
