How to Spend 24 Hours Dining and Drinking in San Antonio | Eater Austin

"A goth‑leaning coffee shop with a blacked‑out interior and a low‑energy staff that caters to late nights and hangovers; alongside standard espresso drinks and cold brews it pours theatrical specialties such as a black sesame latte with activated charcoal and a pandan‑tinged Forest Dweller, offers a few spooky pastries, and often hosts morning pop‑ups." - Brandon Watson

Best Coffee in San Antonio | Eater Austin

"Parked next to the busy music venue Paper Tiger and its adjacent bar Rumble, this coffee shop serves up colorful, Southeast Asian-ish drinks in the early morning hours, a playful contrast to the business’s dark, gothic appearance. It offers some goth-inspired coffee options, including Xeno, a black sesame charcoal latte; the Gravves affogato with ube soft serve and espresso, and the forest dweller latte, which is infused with pandan that makes it a rich green. Obviously, the interiors and decor are all black — like your soul." - Polly Anna Rocha

Trying new places. Everything was very delicious. The baristas were very informative and helpful when it came to suggestions for new customers, such as us. The purple one is the Elixir Latte and the Green is the Forest Dweller Latte. Check them out. Its got a little Goth feel to it.

Google
Fun flavors and delicious coffee! Love the open space inside. Dark but fun atmosphere. It's coffee with a dark theme! Vegan options: oat milk and vegan pastries from "cake thieves" vegan bakery! Wish we had this place in Houston!!!

Google
Graaves Coffee is my absolute favorite. I haven’t been able to find another coffee spot that even comes close to this one. The drinks are not only delicious but so aesthetically pleasing, it’s like they were made for spooky little hearts like mine 🖤🕸️ Every time my boyfriend takes me here, it seriously makes my whole day. I always end up taking like a million pics because everything from the vibes to the drinks is chef’s kiss. I’m counting down the days until I move to San Antonio just so I can come here as often as I want. If you’re even remotely into moody, atmospheric coffee shops with amazing drinks, you need to check this place out.

Google
If you love dark, moody, ambient, goth/alt/otherwise black-drenched aesthetics, then this place is for you! I came on a rainy day, so the ambiance was just perfect. The coffee is a little pricey, but hand-made, craft coffees always are, and for good reason. I got the Xeno latte, a charcoal and black sesame iced latte and it was delicious. It was crowded and busy, but not loud at all, and drinks come out rather quick. The baristas are definitely skilled at their craft, and although quitter than your typical coffee shop barista, they didn't hesitate to chat and answer questions when I had them. If for nothing else, visit to get a really neat drink! Its well worth it. Only qualm is that parking is limited and tight, and street parking is a little confusing to discern, but that's not exactly the shop's fault. Just something to keep in mind

Google
This is a cool coffee shop with an all black interior, neat menu with unique coffee drinks, and sick shirts. The interior has very little seating and could accommodate a lot more if they put more tables and chairs in there. There is a lot of open unused space which is odd to me. There are some pastry options but not many and they run out quickly. Great spot for a fun coffee drink though

Google
I have been dying to try this place. Parking is fine, location is in a cute little spot. Outside entry way and design is cute. The Baristas were super welcoming and sweet. My husband and I ordered the Elixir and I forgot the other one both drinks were pretty good. However if you promote your coffee shop as a goth coffee shop and the vibe is just all black and thats it absolutely not this was the most boring none goth zero vibe empty room I've ever been in. I was so disappointed at how open and big this was but the seats were all against the wall and one small couch with zero decorations zero effort zero music just bland and boring I drove 30 mins for a vibe that wasnt there besides the amazing vibe between my husband and I 0 out of 10 for the actual environment but the drinks were decent but we could have saved the 30 minute drive and go somewhere closer never again

Google
My first time rolling in to this out of this world (Gravve) coffee shops. Oh my gothic, I loved the asthetics of this quaint coffee shop. The vibes are to die for, and the name is so fitting. Their elixir latte cold brew was delicious and the donut was yummy!! I just so loved my color purple elixir latte. The staff was so nice. Thank you for the wonderful service.

Abigail Lockhart-Calpito

Google
Such a cute space. Went twice and got the Forest dweller latte both times. It was stellar both times! Definitely recommend. I had never had pandan in coffee before, but now I am obsessed.
google avatar

Yelp
Great coffee shop!! Love when they host pop ups, I get to sip on my coffee as I shop local. The decor is dark so my goth heart loves anywhere black. The elixir is one of my favorites but the ice cream took my heart. People were friendly and helpful to order.
google avatar

Alexandria P.

Yelp
The atmosphere is super unique and like gothic minimalist is the best way to describe it. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and had great recommendations for us! The names of the drinks are fun, and match how pretty they are! I recommend the Forest Dweller (kind of a nutty taste) & Elixir (chocolatey taste). My kids really liked the giant poptarts, I wasn't a huge fan personally because I like very tart poptarts. But if you like subtle pastries you may enjoy it! Overall it was a fun unique experience and I would definitely go again if I'm in the area!
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
Two thumbs up for the forest dweller latte! It was so good and I can see why it was highly recommended. My husband got the Americano and said it was good as well! Service was quick and prompt. We went early on a Saturday morning so there was no wait and no issue with parking.
google avatar

Emily A.

Yelp
Did a solo drop-in - ordered a cortado and a Forester Dweller. Appreciate the friendly and fast service. Atmosphere and ambiance is always on point.
google avatar

Jacquelyn C.

Yelp
I tried out the Forest Dweller (Pandan Latte) and it was soooo good. I love pandan and the drink definitely did not disappoint. The barista that helped me decide what to get was super nice and helpful. Service was also really quick and of course the drink tasted delicious. They also have a small little lot off to the side you can park in. Definitely need to return to try their other drinks and some of the food!

Yelp
Gravves Coffee is one of the coolest coffee shops I have ever been to! The new wave ambiance is so cool and fresh if I lived here this would be my spot. Upon arrival, the guy at the counter greeted us and walked us through the menu a bit. I didn't get a photo of it but it's a simple layout with their signature drinks at the top and your traditional drinks at the bottom. We went with their most popular Elixir Latte and the Iced Forrest Dweller. All in all very good drinks! The sweetness level was soft and subtle and the temperature of my hot latte was perfect. The latte art was very nice, you can tell they have some very talented and knowledgeable baristas. I did want to try the cold brew but they were out at the time. I also wanted to purchase some merchandise that I had seen on their instagram but I was told they have new stuff in the works, so I'd have to wait! They have two couches in the back corner and seating along one wall of the building. Gravves Coffee has a lot of opportunity with the space they have and I'm excited to watch their growth. If you like coffee and want a fantastic experience Gravves Coffee is IT!
google avatar

Angel S.

Yelp
Love the unique decor and theme of this place. Service was calm but attentive. The coffee itself was actually very very good and priced well for what it is. The shop itself is pretty large and there's plenty of space to grab a seat. There was also dedicated parking on the side of the building which is a huge plus.

Yelp
Stepping into Gravves Coffee feels like entering a different realm where the spooky aesthetic reigns supreme. With every corner draped in shades of night, the ambiance is coolly underscored by a playlist of low, moody tunes, crafting an experience that's both unique and immersive. During my visit, I indulged in two of their concoctions: the Vanilla Lavender Latte and the Forest Dweller Latte. The Vanilla Lavender, while enjoyable, treaded familiar ground without any remarkable twists. However, the Forest Dweller Latte emerged as the star of the show. This bewitching brew, fortified with a double shot of espresso, was not only the perfect energizer but also a delight to the senses. The latte whispered tales of coconut, rose, almond, and milk chocolate - a symphony of flavors that danced intriguingly on the palate. However, it's not without its caveats. The seating is somewhat sparse, making it a challenge to find a spot to settle into this enchanting world. Additionally, the menu feels like a teaser to a larger, untold story, limited in its offerings yet brimming with potential. In essence, Gravves Coffee is a diamond in the rough, a spot with immense promise waiting to unfold its full glory. Here's to hoping it expands its horizons and continues to enchant its patrons with more spellbinding creations.

Yelp
Great place with a spooky vibe. I enjoyed gathering there with a group of friends but there was very limited seating. I know that this building for them is still brand new, so there's definitely grace for them. I can't wait to come back. The service was quick and the drinks were delicious.

Yelp
I can 100% say I've never been to a coffee a shop like this. It was as if American Horror Story, Salem witch trials and a coffee shop got together and Gravves was the result. Service was great. It was suggested I get the forest dweller and I was very happy with it. Also, the latte art is on point. So glad I was able to check this out while I was in San Antonio for business, I would be interested in the other drinks they have, they all look unique and flavor profiles I haven't tried before. Now would I hang out and work on things at this place....thats a no, I can't hang with American horror story vibes that long. BUT a tasty beverage to go, 100% ***edit- didn't know until I peeked their IG- they have an "Artsuary" exhibit going on dec 1st-31st, so the arts they had on display gave the AHS vibes. VERY interesting to check out***

Yelp
Super cool spot, it's all blacked out with a super cool vibe. The barista was super knowledgeable about the drinks, maybe because he's the owner I think but explained very well what was in the drinks. They also have a few pastries to choose from.

J C.

Yelp
The coffee is amazing. The atmosphere is open and clean. No carpet which I love. The place is very clean and smells fresh. They have a variety of seating options as well. They do have a parking lot.

Yelp
Finally some brick and mortar!! Finding their business was a bit confusing at first as some apps haven't updated their address just yet. The coffee shop is right next to an old arcade store just a couple minutes away from their usual truck location. I came here with my mom who was having her first sip of Gravves ever. SHE LOVED IT. I had gotten her a vanilla latte that was so Rich with coffee, creamy vanilla, and a refreshing sip! I had gotten an excelsior and later got another vanilla latte for myself before leaving. The new shop does not have a lot of tables or seating, but a lot space. It's a gorgeous location with lots of room, super friendly staff, and a simple menu. The service is always very fast, and 1 size of drinks makes it super easy to order!! A true gem of San Antonio.
google avatar

Jonathon G.

Yelp
Service was quick. Staff was efficient and professional. Environment of the area was calm, collecting and inspired creativity. Everything I look for in a coffee shop. Took a blind pick for my beverage and it was fantastic. Will definitely be coming here again. Great job guys!
google avatar

Yelp
Great Coffee. Great service. Cool environment. Small parking lot but possible parking across the street. Not a donut place but i got a donut and it was pretty dang good. (Had a deep fried taste ) I recommend the elixir latte, tastes great especially if you like vanilla lattes and it looks beautiful I have plans to come back
google avatar

Yelp
I love this coffee shop. So unique with the all black decour. I was sold when they have my favs (Ube and Pandan). It's quite difficult to find shops that infuse those flavors in their coffee. I am typically a black coffee drinker, so if I opt for latte, i am not looking for a regular degular basic flavor ones. So happy I went here and the pandan flavor rocks! The barista with the long hair was nice too! Def will revisit if I ever go back to ATX!
google avatar

Jen H.

Yelp
This little coffee truck may be small, but it has solid and unique coffee drink options. There's no official parking but there's plenty of space in the lot next to the truck to park for a little bit if you're coming to pick up a drink. I tried the Forest Dweller Latte, and it is a pandan & coffee drink. The combo works really well together and you can either drink it mixed or leave it separated for a few sips to adjust the amount of pandan that's mixed into the coffee. The coffee itself is delicious on its own. I would love for this truck to find a brick and mortar location to call home because the concept/theme would be so cool to see brought to life in a physical coffee shop.
google avatar

Jonny C.

Yelp
I would take a friend or a date here. I tried their new brick and mortar location. It's in a pretty cool plaza with music, and video game stores and a tattoo parlor nearby. The interior is dark themed and minimalistic although that may changed as they just opened. The service was friendly and quick and the forest dweller latte I got was perfect.
google avatar

Sierra S.

Yelp
I am so excited! The service is always amazing and i love the new store front! It is really nice and open, plenty of room and the black aesthetic is everything!! Got the Forrest dweller iced latte and it is fantastic. The pop tart looked really good but a little girl behind me had her heart on it so I settled with a picture. Go visit them in their official shop!

Yelp
Actually came downtown for a coffee festival, but it was rescheduled due to weather. So to get our coffee fix, we came to check this place out. I really like the aesthetic of the place. Its dark/gothic interior is very different from any other coffee shop I've seen. The menu is simple, but there are no descriptions on it. Staff is very friend though and had no problem explaining the drinks to us. Although I can see this being a hassle during a really busy shift. They have oat milk as a dairy alternative, but they don't have decaf espresso which my boyfriend can't have too much caffeine. They gave him a single shot in his drink and he still couldn't finish it. I think if they add decaf and add descriptions or atleast a QR code with a more detailed menu so staff isn't explaining the menu to each new customer. All in all, the drinks are not only instagramable, but also very delicious.

Kris R.

Yelp
Coffee? More like baked goods... yum . In all honesty the coffee is amazing too. Philippine culture is abound in this coffee. Atmosphere has plenty of light and plenty of dark for a natural twilight feeling . The servers are the best( service with a frown is just as good as a smile well when it's coffee time ).
google avatar

Marcela T.

Yelp
Gravves has become my weekend treat - I love it so much! It's got everything - great vibes and location, minimally decorated and an easy to read and small menu. My favorite drink here is the elixir latte (ube flavor) with oatmilk. My husband's favorite is the vanilla lavender. I'm caffeine sensitive, so I hope they consider carrying decaf espresso in the future. The baristas are super friendly and I love that they are making the coffee right as you order. I missed this type of coffeeshop that doesn't have 200 options and is just about making great quality coffee. See you this weekend!
google avatar

Luisa E.

Yelp
This place is GREAT! We tried the Forest Dweller and the Elixir. 10/10 super yummy drinks. I love the vibes of the place and the staff was super friendly, they even walked us through the drinks and explained everything super well. I just wish they had a little more options for light bites/pastries. They had a couple tea options too I just wish they served matcha. Besides that I love this place! Definitely coming back
google avatar

James L.

Yelp
If you haven't had Pandan or Ube coffee you are missing out. Go check this place out. The owner is a very cool guy as well.
google avatar

Imboard S.

Yelp
I know that I'm not the target demographic for this place but I feel this place needs from reviews outside of the main demographic. To start I start with the good. The time for the drinks and food was very quick almost shockingly fast which was a nice change compared to most places. The pastries were great, I can only confirm for the chocolate croissant but it was very good quality. The most important thing they succeeded in was customer service they were very polite, patient and helpful. Now the not as good. The goth aesthetic didn't feel very goth to me it felt like they bought a bunch of black furniture and called it a day because most of the goth decor was by the counter. The coffee felt mediocre to me, it started as a little too sweet then became weirdly strong but it might be me sense I'm sensitive to overly sweet things and overly strong things. My biggest problem was the price, like I know it's a local business and you gotta get that bag and I know that coffee places usually tend to be more expensive but 18 dollars for 2 drinks and a pastry seems too pricey.
google avatar

Ricardo P.

Yelp
We came to check out this place after finding good reviews online. The cafe was completely gothic themed. We tried the elixir latte, which was delicious. The service was great. Would come here again if am at near area. Highly recommend coming here if in the mood for unique lattes.
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Gravves had that spooky aesthetic and amazing coffee. We tried their signature drinks, the iced elixir latte and iced forest dweller latte. Must try both!! The pumpkin muffin was good as well. There isn't a lot of seating but that might be intentional. 2 sofas and about 4 tables. Be prepared to take to go. Love this local coffee shop
google avatar

Elizabeth W.

Yelp
Great aesthetic, friendly staff, fast service. Tried the forest dweller's coffee and it was delicious.
google avatar

Tram T.

Yelp
The all black trailer is very sleek, there wasn't a menu on display but the barista was super nice. They were also super fast, minimal wait. Through his recommendation I got the forest dweller (pandan + espresso) with oat milk. The drink was DELICIOUS. It wasn't too sweet and the pandan flavor comes through at the end. It reminded me of the vietnamese desert, che. The elixir was also very delicious. It was like a nutty vanilla. Can't wait to come back to try the other things they have.
google avatar

Kiasha A.

Yelp
A nice coffee trailer on St. Mary's St. owned by two brothers. I love their coffee because of their unique flavors. My favorites are the elixar and forest dweller. I recommend the drinks hot because it really brings out the flavors. The service is amazing, and they love explaining their flavors. I also love the unique theme/ambiance of skulls/dark colors.
google avatar

Margaret H.

Yelp
Cute coffee truck (not a full storefront) with fun aesthetics. All of their drinks are pretty as well as being yummy. The employee was also nice enough to give me a sticker with their cute logo! I had the forest dweller latte and it was very unique (more savory than sweet) but I would 100% order it again.
google avatar

Carla P.

Yelp
Love the place and the handcrafted drinks are to DIE for. It was our first time here and the lovely girl behind the bar seemed so excited to show us the menu. Can't wait to bring my family here.

John Paul G.

Yelp
Beautiful place the owners are so intelligent when speaking about their craft I'd go everyday if I could but 5 x a week is enough for now

Ummm I.

Yelp
This place is the best! Every time I come in the staff is always so friendly and knowledgeable on the menu. The ambiance is so chill and such a relaxing spot with the music. Best of all the coffee always taste good and gives me enough caffeine to feel like god.
google avatar

Brandi M.

Yelp
First time checking out the new location, loved the vibes. The Elixir is a must of you stop by!
google avatar

Cody S.

Yelp
Never heard of this place but its truly with the time Employees are all Extremely nice Drinks are scrumptious Support local coffee spots!

Erykah A.

Yelp
The coffee was really good and I like the goth style decor. The service was good and they oat milk option

Roxie S.

Yelp
This is definitely the place to chill and enjoy a delicious cup of coffee! Not your ordinary run of the mill setup. Laid back and welcoming. I actually loved the black paint and minimal decor. Don't you dare order regular coffee! Ask for the house specials, you won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Arleth A.

Yelp
Great coffee and the environment was amazeballs. Need more coffee options maybe add matcha.
google avatar

Destini S.

Yelp
We checked out the new brick and mortar location today. We tried two different iced lattes. The elixir was great. I opted for coconut milk. It was a creamy, flavorful coffee. My wife got the forest dweller. We didn't enjoy that one as much. It had an odd after taste. The space had a lot of open area. The staff was very nice and explained all of the drinks i inquired about. I look forward to seeing what additions they make.
google avatar

Darian T.

Yelp
I saw pictures of this green drink online and I was curious about what it tasted like. Went ahead and ordered it an wow I'm glad I did. Can't even tell you what's in it but it tastes great.
google avatar

Lisa G.

Yelp
coffee , atmosphere and customer service are all amazingi will not travel across town for an elixir
google avatar

Paulo D.

Yelp
Great coffee and excellent customer service. The barista told me they will open their new location in the next coming weeks. I will definitely check it out.
google avatar

Katie L.

Yelp
My favorite coffee joint in town. I couldn't even tell you how many times I drove to Sari-Sari off of Bandera in hopes of finding Gravves there. Was very excited for their truck to open. You have to try their ube coffee, it's the best.
google avatar

Cynthia T.

Yelp
Gravves appeals to the angsty teenager still inside me who overlines her black eyeliner. Their schtick is very goth and Halloween-year round with a coffin design and skeleton hand holding a cup. Pleasing goth aesthetic aside, the crew is super nice and helpful, and the drinks are as delicious as they are gorgeous. For my first foray into Gravve's totally photogenic drinks, I chose The Elixer, which is an ube (UBE!?) latte. It's a gorgeous purple color with two shots of espresso and man is it delicious. Who'd have thought ube and espresso would match so well? The folks at Gravves did, apparently. I want to try the Forest Dweller next time. In addition to the ube latte, I also bought a bag of beans. They said it's a dark roast, and your girl here loves her dark roasts. I can't wait to make cold brew out of it. San Antonio has a fleet of Coffee Trucks peppered around the city, but Gravves is unlike any I've ever visited. Highly recommend them. I'll be seeing them again soon!

Emily W.

Yelp
The coffee and the pastries are to die for. The vibe of the place is really cool too. I love having an alternative spot to go to! Pretty sure their playlist is the same as mine too

G D.

Yelp
The Elixir Latte was amazing. Very tasty scones and a great variety of pastries. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about their unique offerings. The wall art and space is very dark and truthful. I will definitely return to Gravves!
google avatar

H B.

Yelp
I absolutely love everything about Gravves. The coffee selection, the vibe, just yes visit there. The Forrest is my favorite, you will not be disappointed!
google avatar

Rich L.

Yelp
Gravves Coffee Truck is located on the corner of N St. Mary's and Ashby. WOW! I had an Iced Elixir Latte and it was AMAZING! The Elixir has Ube & Espresso; I was reluctant to try it but I'm so glad I did. It had just the right amount of sweet + coffee notes to make it very smooth and enjoyable. They have a few pastries to choose from and the Oreo cake donut was delicious. The guy with the gauges (forgot his name) was very helpful and recommended the Elixir. Great place to stop by for an unconventional, yet tasty coffee.
google avatar

Kenny R.

Yelp
TO DIE FOR.. i know coffee is a crucial piece of a lot of peoples day, so finding the right one can seem like a pipe dream. i tend to travel a lot and have less to say about most places but everything about this place keeps pulling me in. you can't go wrong with any of the selection but either one i would recommend the oat because it pairs so well with the flavor pallets of the coffee grounds. coolest baristas you'll ever meet i'll be all over the country telling people to go and i hope you get to have the same experience i did
