Gray Fox is now serving charcoal and beetroot lattes in downtown Minneapolis - Eater Twin Cities

"Gray Fox opens today in the atrium of the TCF building from the owners of Eat Street’s Copper Hen Kitchen and Cakery and the forthcoming Copper Cow in Minnetonka. The new coffee and wine bar with a mix of light foods, extensive coffee bar options, wine and even frosé. The menu includes smoothie bowls, activated charcoal and beet root mixed into lattes along with distinctive cups edged in gold. For those looking for breakfast, the shop will also offer bagels from Rise Bagel Co. and doughnuts from nearby Cardigan Donuts. Gray Fox is open Monday through Friday, 7 am to 7 pm." - Joy Summers

Google
The inside space is huge and very convenient to work in! It’s located inside deluxe plaza with street parking available outside. I tried the nutty squirrel which was a latte with a mixed nut syrup that included hazelnut and almond. I wish it was a bit more on the sweeter side, but I usually prefer my drinks to be sweet. They had other specialty drinks available as well I’d love to try in the future.

Google
I love ' fox in the wood latte' This latte is art ~ The space is very large and beautiful. The ceiling is high. There are plenty of sitting.

Google
Super friendly service the barista was very kind when I asked questions about the matcha. Got an iced vanilla Matcha latte with almond milk and it was really good. Also love that they have the option for an unsweetened Matcha if you wanna go with a more no sugar option.

Candice Frazier

Google
Good coffee, but hard to find. It is located INSIDE Deluxe Plaza! Super cute, quiet and chill low music. I was able to take business calls and answer my emails without interruption.

Google
This is a great coffee spot along the skyway, set in a bright and inviting atrium. Plenty of comfortable seating, a great selection of coffee and other drinks. It is a little pricey for the quality of your drinks/food. Was a little upset to see the barista just unpack a prepackaged muffin to just throw it in to one to make it appear as if they had made them.

Felicia Murrell

Google
The menu board had me hype. I was looking forward to some Instagram worthy latte art, but what I received definitely didn’t match the image on the menu board. The setting is a whole vibe, very chill and spacious. The latte itself was decent. I will go back to give it another try, but I definitely won’t be rushing back or recommending.

Google
really good matchas, and they have an unsweetened option if you ask for it. The peppermint match was great! at 9:30am on a weekday my drink was ready in 90 seconds. there isnt any external signage but enter the DLX building and its on the main floor.

Stephanie Madden

Google
The coffee here is absolutely delicious and fresh! The portion size of the latte was surprisingly large, so it is worth the price. The atmosphere was also lovely - would definitely come back again!

Yelp
Happy to discover this superb cafe hidden inside the "Deluxe Plaza" building during an October 2024 public health conference. Lots of pluses. First, the nice jolt of espresso-level caffeine (Cafe Americano) was far superior to the free and weak coffee at the hotel. Second, the seating areas are conducive to doing a little bit of email catchup or chatting with a small group of friends. Third, this location is completely inside an office building (no street noise and likely to be a welcome respite in cold weather. One downside is that the service may be slower than expected depending on the time of day (would not recommend going to this place if you're in a rush). That said, I think it's an awesome place to chill out if you have 60 minutes to take a mental health break from attending a conference with 12,000 people.

Yelp
To put it simply, this place didn't quite land for me. My whole goal was to get a great breakfast, coffee, and workspace. Even though I had vetted this out, it was pretty tough to find (inside a big office building) and once I got in there was no breakfast on the menu available. Even looking now (around 1pm), it's showing breakfast-only with online ordering, but when I was there is was only lunch available. The sandwich I had was made with care (nice staff) but didn't taste good. Warped spinach, sweet jam on savory turkey and just wasn't good. The nitro coffee was great, however. I think they do coffee well. Lastly, I wanted a nice work space and this certainly looks like it, however their music and speakers were skipping, crackling and cutting out.. noticeably! It happened every 3-5 seconds and was cranked up pretty loud, so it was incredibly distracting. I was already committed because of calls I had, and had to utilize noise cancelling headphones to try to get through. Swing and a miss, but surely not a bad place overall to try out if you need a great cup of coffee.

Yelp
Love their unique latte offerings. Each one comes with a different picture printed on the foam. I got the fox latte, which has a maple syrup flavoring. It was delightful! They also have squirrels and other animals printed on other lattes. Also a really beautiful interior. They have a really high ceiling so the space feels very airy.

Yelp
This Gray Fox Coffee & Wine Bar is located inside an office building, so you might pass it up your first time here (like I did). I ordered a medium iced clever bee which provided the afternoon pick-me-up that I needed. The Lavender and honey flavor came through well, and the drink was too sweet. Id definitely be back if I was in the area to try out their other specialty lattes or smoothies.
google avatar

Yelp
Fast service and the iced coffee itself is very good but the pumpkin drink tastes more spicy than pumpkin or caramel. Which i don't mind but if that's not your thing it's very nutmegy! They were out of most ( all but 4) pastries so i didn't try any but they looked good!

Yelp
Gray Fox's La Salle location is a cute coffee bar in a really pretty atrium downtown. They offer a set of typically 6 special drinks, most of which rotate seasonally. I've tried a few different drinks but keep coming back to the Clever Bee (lavender & honey syrups with espresso & milk). It's sweet without being overly sweet, it's always the right temperature, & it has a cute printed image on top! I would love to see maybe a sprinkle of salt on top to make the flavors pop, but the drink is super tasty as is. The baristas are always kind & helpful; my only complaint about Gray Fox is that it ends up being almost $10 for a single coffee after tip. Granted, chain coffee shops are around the same, it's just not an every day treat.

Yelp
Coffee? Good. Tea? Meh. Vibes? Wonderful! I stopped by twice during my time in Minneapolis. Admittedly given all the raving reviews, I had super high hopes (and it didn't help that the lines were always super long). This small bar was typically manned by 1-2 baristas, and they were efficient. I tried the Hot Peanut Butter Cup Latte and the Iced Elderberry Hibiscus. The latte was nice and strong, but the mix ins definitely settled (and I unfortunately didn't realize until I was practically done with it). The hibiscus tea was okay, but definitely lacked sweetness for my taste. The lounge area / surroundings were very clean and bright -- I'd describe the look and feel as very modern, but not too bright and white that it reminds me of a hospital. My coworkers came back almost every morning we were in town, which I think says a lot about the quality of the drinks. Note: if you order via the app/website, you won't get the cute machine-led latte art. So if you want the art, be sure to order in person!

Yelp
Absolutely delicious specialty espresso drinks. Disappointed that they didn't do the printed design on the foam for mine and just did a regular swirl.
google avatar

Anna H.

Yelp
I've been to the old location a couple times and this new one has the same quality drinks! Love the matcha latte here, not as sweet as the Starbucks one which I prefer. A great location in Marquette building, right in front of the main entrance.
google avatar

Phattharaporn S.

Yelp
The vibe was very nice with the fireplace but food and drink were totally disappointing. The latte art doesn't look anything like in the menu. The matcha was very light and sweet. I felt like drinking green sugar water. The turkey sausage was extremely salty. The muffin was hard I wasn't able to bite. Price was not worth it.

Yelp
Ambiance was really great here (4 stars for ambiance). Very relaxing, chic, sophisticated. Service was okay- the barista was kind. We ordered the masala chai and it was just ok- In retrospect I wish I ordered a coffee because maybe that would have been a better choice. I have high expectations of my chai (and especially masala chai) so I was hoping this would have been up to those standards. However it was okay at best. It tasted very much like chai from a box (which it was). I didn't get to give this spot another chance because vitality roasting down the road stole my heart for the rest of my trip.

Yelp
The nutty squirrel with macadamia nut milk, Iced, was one of the best lattes i have ever had!!! Service was nice and friendly. They also were fast which was nice since I was in a morning rush. I will definitely be back!!
google avatar

Shaji K.

Yelp
One of the more popular coffee spots downtown, so decided to stop by early Thursday morning for a pick-me-up. Small line to order but the staff works through everyone quickly. Opted for the 16 oz. Americano ($3ish) and a Bacon Egg and Cheese sandwich ($7). Coffee isn't too bad but not as strong as I would have hoped. The breakfast sandwich is densely packed with a layering of bacon egg and cheese. The croissant was an odd circular shape and very greasy. Could have used more kick in the egg to balance out the meal. Food did take some time to come out but not egregiously. There is plenty of seating inside if wanting to stay as well.
google avatar

Janae J.

Yelp
Super cute place!!! Smoothie bowl options and fun coffees and teas! I'd go again! Staff was helpful.
google avatar

Paul H.

Yelp
Skip the breakfast and just go for the coffee. The breakfast sandwich on a croissant seemed taken straight from the freezer to the microwave. The croissant was burnt and dry. The purple smoothie was fairly tasty but honestly really hard to drink with the paper straws. It is a nice place to meet others/work/study.

Brian W.

Yelp
Really small. Obnoxiously loud. Coffee did the trick, but it's really acidic. If the coffee was better all the challenges could be overlooked.
google avatar

Jim M.

Yelp
The coffee was good. I ordered an Egg Bake. It was small, cold, and rubbery. Despite its small size it was packed with chewy chunks of sun dried tomatoes and stringy spinach. I took it back and told them it was cold. The person at the counter said she would heat it up. I waited for a few minutes and then went back and told her it was terrible and I wanted my money back. She fumbled with the computer a while and asked if cash would be OK. I said yes. She gave me my money back. It was $8. She did not offer an apology.
google avatar

Zachary C.

Yelp
Great coffee amazing workers a little difficult to find but I will definitely be back
google avatar

Sini B.

Yelp
I love this coffee shop! The aesthetic matches the flavors and the vibe. It's never too busy or loud. I'm also surprised by how often they update their menu. They always have new fun options! Definitely check them out!
google avatar

Noah L.

Yelp
Pretty little cafe in the building lobby, fairly busy for morning breakfast. I thought the coffee (drip and cappuccino) was ok but not exactly specialty. They do have cute stencils for the milk drinks, but there is a lot of good coffee in Minneapolis and would probably have preferred to go some place else that has the flavor game more on point. Breakfast sandwich with egg and bacon was pretty good, as was the turkey sausage. Lovely ambiance and ample seating. If you are looking for a trendy atmosphere this is a solid choice.
google avatar

Jesse W.

Yelp
You all read the reviews from other people. Amazing designs, great service, awesome coffee. Byesssss
google avatar

Francesca L.

Yelp
Yes, I'm a millennial and yes, I did order the Millennial Pink drink (strawberry, beetroot powder, espresso, oat milk). I really liked the drink! It went well with a yummy old fashioned donut (Cardigan Donuts) that I got at Gray Fox too. Aside from the food and drink, I also enjoyed the Gray Fox space. It's nicely decorated and there are lots of tables and comfortable seating too. Great place for those looking to do some work or hang out. You'll especially adore this place if you're a fan of rose gold -- the color can be found in their decor and on their cups! I'll be sure to visit if I ever travel to Minneapolis again!

Abi G.

Yelp
I went on a first date here and it's a very open space. The drink was fine and the staff was polite. It did seem to take awhile to prepare my dates iced americano tho. Good first date spot
google avatar

Rida S.

Yelp
Gray fox is one of my favorite coffee places in the twin Cities, I love the location and the setup of the shop, it's in downtown in a very great wide spread out location, so plenty of room to work or just catch up with someone or take a break! I love the decor here, the black couches are beautiful and the marble tables are very modern chic, perfect pic opportunities! As for the coffee it's so good and cute! I love how the flavors change every so often, and they have flavors for everyone, more teas, mochas, and regular coffee taste for everyone. I loved their pumpkin latte and donut latte the best so far, I want to try so many more, I have yet to try their smoothie bowls but those are next on my list! I just wish they were open on weekends as well!
google avatar

Sheri S.

Yelp
Let there be light! One thing I love about Gray Fox is the high towering atrium that let's in a lot of light from every which way. Yes, the Lattes are good, the seats are comfy, the service is good, but what gets me to wonder to the other side of downtown is the space, I even love their Very Berry Lemonade...so yummy. There is a uniqueness to how open yet inviting Gray Fox feels and that keeps me coming back every time. After the rush hour passes through I like to just enjoy one of their comfy plush velvet seats with pink accent pillows, admire the rose gold figurines, and their mellow soundtrack. Sometimes less is more and Gray Fox definitely got that concept down.
google avatar

Allyson S.

Yelp
I'm seriously kicking myself! For how often I walk by, I've never actually purchased a coffee from Gray Fox. I stopped by a few weeks ago for a quick hot beverage and was so impressed by the open space and extensive beverage menu. I feel like there's something for everyone here. My latte was amazing, and it doesn't hurt it came with this cute lil penguin on top. Flavors were good and it was a great price for something so unique and such good quality. You'll really love this place for the atmosphere and the ample seating. I feel like I could grab a good book and hang out!

Yelp
I've been to this coffee shop multiple times but it never fails to impress me. Each experience is even better than the last ! First let's talk about ambiance. This place is architecturally beautiful and modern. The black furniture is inviting and the rose gold and marble tables add a nice accent! Onto the workers. They are always so friendly and welcoming and each one has a smile on their face. They are always down to give you a recommendation of what to try next and they are very personable. Lastly and most importantly, the drinks! Each one is carefully curated and unique. They have seasonal drinks that have gorgeous prints on them. They're always coming out with new and unique flavors too! My favorites have to be Fox in the Woods, Amaretti Cookie (a past seasonal one), Cherry Blossom Tea Latte, and lastly, Chai Love Pumpkin, a current seasonal drink. I love that you can taste every flavor noted in the description and not one is overpowering. It's also not too sweet but not too bitter. Just right! This is a coffee shop you don't want to miss.
google avatar

Shelby S.

Yelp
Love the vibes of this place. Very low key and Bougie (in a good way)!! The rose gold accents with the black and white decor compliment each other so well. It is a super open feel. Sometimes in coffee shops you feel cramped but definitely not here. I ordered a almond milk latte with sugar free hazelnut it was super tasty. For anyone doing Keto out there like me, they have a few sugar free options. Also, the design on top is such a cute addition to any drink.
google avatar

Mulan V.

Yelp
Cute little cafe in a lobby with high ceilings and a good amount of seating! I got an iced salted caramel latte and it was good. It's great for pictures or meet-ups with friends! My friends loved taking pictures here and enjoyed the atmosphere. Street parking right in front of the building doors was $3/hour -- not too bad!

Rebecca P.

Yelp
Outstanding, interesting coffee flavors, delicious breakfast food (love the egg/sausage sammie and the apple fritter), and truly lovely staff. Bonus is the awesome designs that top their coffee drinks!
google avatar

Cui Le M.

Yelp
Great coffee here, quick service, I hung around the lobby area where the coffee shop is. Wifi was strong definitely a nice hang out place
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
Stayed at the Curio Marquette in Minneapolis and was able to access Gray Fox Coffee through the skyway system. Gray Fox is attached to the W hotel downtown. I ordered the Winter Botanical a few times and it was the best latte I've ever had. I really liked the unique combination of flavors in the drink, yet it was not overly sweet. There was juniper, rosemary, lavender, and cardamon infused in the latte. The space and decor here are beautiful and a great place to study and work if you happen to be downtown. The only con is I wish it was open a little later than 7pm, but it seems like a lot of businesses in the skyway close pretty early. Maybe it's a Minneapolis thing. Overall, I would definitely come back here if I were downtown.
google avatar

Aleah H.

Yelp
Gray Fox is a super bright and airy coffee and wine bar! It is such a cheery escape from your work day downtown. I have tried the donut latte and the purple smoothie bowl (pictured). The smoothie bowl is a solid breakfast, but too much to finish for me. I wish there was an option that was $2 cheaper and smaller. Their specialty lattes are the way to go, though! They are all absolutely beautiful and just as tasty! The seating options are also plentiful and casual, so I would highly recommend this place for a coaching or mentoring coffee break, or even as a place to study or work remotely! I will certainly be back to try more items on the menu, and I hope to try the wine bar, too!
google avatar

Sarah N.

Yelp
One of the most unique and fun coffee options downtown; accessible via the skyway. Downtown is mainly covered in Starbucks and Caribou; limiting coffee options for those looking for more. This makes Grayfox a fun treat in the crowd of chains! Grayfox will wow you with the beautiful latte art; surpassing the normal heart that gets lots of IG love. It also has various modern/fun coffee styles for the adventurous flavor explorer. While not all the flavors will become a favorite they will be unlike other coffees you've tried before. Cheers!
google avatar

Manasa T.

Yelp
Found this place while aimlessly walking through the skyways one day and I've been here way too many times since. It's easily accessible through the skyways (which is a huge bonus in these Minnesota winters) and super close to everything downtown. I love the entire aesthetic of this place - from the simple and minimalist furniture to the rose gold, wood, and matte black color scheme. The high ceiling and skylight also add to the overall aesthetic and make it very open. There are plenty of outlets and seating, and it's kind of tucked away inside the building which makes in nice and low-key. I don't really care much for coffee but I did enjoy their amaretti cookie drink. I also really like the masala chai and jasmine tea. Happy hour specials are also great - $3 wines and $1 off taps. I've heard the food is pretty good too but I have yet to try some. My only complaint is that wifi can be a little slower than I like, since it is the general wifi inside the tower and not Gray Fox's own wifi. But this hasn't bothered me too much (yet).
google avatar

Joy A.

Yelp
801 Marquette Avenue building downtown in the atrium! The menu caters to coffee lovers, health nuts with their creative smoothie bowls, WINE, and your quick-stops pick-me-uppers with tea and food as well! I highly recommend the unique drink menu! Oh and a massive plus is that they have oat milk! There's cozy couches, bright tables as well as high tops at the wine bar! The WiFi is an open network, the music is workable and parking is as expected in the city with ramps or meters. M-F 7-7 Also, they do not take cash!
google avatar

Shelby M.

Yelp
This has to be the cutest coffee shop. Not only is the coffee amazing but it's a great area to get work done or meet with a friend. I met with a friend that also happens to work in the Mpls skyway system. We sat on the black velvet couches and chatted away. They have multiple games to play and also a bar area. So not only can you get a great coffee but you can get a beer as well. We were here before lunch so no drinking was involved. It's nice and quiet compared to the hustle and bustle of other places downtown. They do have a small food menu and I would love to try it next time. The are really active on Instagram and re-grammed my instastory post.
google avatar

Caroline P.

Yelp
I've walked past this place so many times I have no idea why it took me so long to come, but now that I've tried it this place is going in my heavy rotation. The space itself makes me feel really cool, but the coffee itself is actually delicious. I tried the Clever Bee Latte and they managed to add lavendar to coffe (which I love) without overpowering it (which happens a lot and is awful)!! I'm so so happy, it's taken my bad case of the Mondays and swept it away. Also they sell Cardigan Donuts which means I love this place that much more. I haven't tried the food, but I'm already planning a HH here because the deals are soooo reasonable and the space is great, it's bright and welcoming which is exactly what I need this spring as its not quite warm enough yet for a HH outside.
google avatar

Alina Y.

Yelp
I was extremely excited to try this place because I'm obsessed with unique places and the millennial latte caught my eye! The environment is very chill and it's located right next to the W Hotel in the TCF tower. My friends and I tried the millennial lattes and their açaí bowls. The millennial latte super cool because it was pink, but it tasted like nothing special.... but totally instagram-worthy. The decor of the place is very modern and cute. I think that someone could literally come and take a whole photo shoot on their cute couches. There wasn't as many people and noise level was minimum. Overall, very pretty place, but I think next time I'll try some of their other drink options! I visited when it first opened and a few things to consider: -- they do not accept cash (card only) -- parking is on the street -- bathrooms are confusing to find -- you can walk inside from the W Hotel
google avatar

Taylor M.

Yelp
Got a breakfast sandwich and didn't love it - not as flavorful as I thought it would be! They definitely could use a bigger selection of breakfast sandwiches.
google avatar

Patrick S.

Yelp
What an excellent gem! Hidden in the brick courtyard of the old TCF Building lies a convenient and cozy place for happy hour with coworkers. You have your choice between the bar, tables, or small little sofa areas to sit back with a glass of wine. The happy hour pricing is phenomenal. A $4 glass of wine will keep me coming back. The service was prompt and our waitress was attentive. I ordered a cheese pizza from the happy hour menu. It was quite flavorful and had a pesto surprise drizzled on top. Can't wait to go back to this place!
google avatar

Kwaji S.

Yelp
spot is a vibe and I'd go again to meet up with friends to chill before going to an event like at the stadium
google avatar

Mariah F.

Yelp
Love it, can't get enough of it. This place has taken every hip and trendy aspect of young professionals and millennials and threw it into a cafe. (They even have a millennial pink drink, like what?) I've had a few of the lattes (two pictured) and they were both so so good, and not too sweet. And that latte art? Very instagramable. I also got the caprese panini and it was good! Wish it came with fruit or something to balance out the savory and take up more space on the to go box but nevertheless it was still a solid sandwich. Wish there was one of these in Austin hint hint please open one there, I'll manage it for you
google avatar

Larry S.

Yelp
The coffee Treyfox is always wonderful. And the designs that they put on the lattes are very much fun to see. It's a great coffee shop to have in downtown Minneapolis.
google avatar

Jeff B.

Yelp
Gray Fox is the best. Creative craft drinks, awesome food choices (like Cardigan Donuts) and a great space to connect with others in. The happy hour pricing is very good, and the froze is fantastic. The Millennial Pink Latte is awesome - honey, beetroot... it's got great flavor and tastes truly innovative. The seasonal drinks are not just sugary lip-service... the Donut Latte is fantastic, as is the Clever Bee.
google avatar

Lee J.

Yelp
Did a search this morning on places within walking distance of our hotel. Being a few blocks this was the choice for today. Great coffee, great service! We are in town for a few days and I could see being a regular in that time.
google avatar

Caitlin M.

Yelp
This has easily become one of my favorite coffee shops downtown. They have so many great options. They can decorate your latte however you would like and have the cutest lounge area to hang out and grab a coffee or glass of wine after work.
google avatar

Alicia L.

Yelp
Gray Fox is the most aesthetically pleasing coffee shop in downtown Minneapolis and their signature drinks are amazing. I've gone twice now during the work day and I was tempted to "WFH" just to hide away and lounge on their plush couches. I'd recommend both the Fox in the Woods (maple spice, bitters, smoked sea salt - SO good and the salt isn't overpowering) and the Clever Bee (lavender & honey). I don't like overly sweet or syrupy-tasting drinks and these were both the perfect amount of sweet, plus their logo is printed at the top of every drink so you can get a cute pic of your latte on their marble countertops :)
google avatar

Yana P.

Yelp
Beautiful new coffee shop in the midst of skyscrapers. Plenty of seating so no need to worry about sharing tables with some hipsters. Very cute photo op back drops and even a fire place with some live music. Panini wasn't like your typical skimpy, barely any meat sandwich. There was enough meat and gooey cheese. Very filling. Another bonus is that you can bring your husband/spouse and they won't hate it as there's a Nintendo classic that shines on the wall that you can actually play! So while she's taking pictures of her coffee he can play super Mario. Can't speak for parking as we were staying at hotel in building.
