The experience will mostly depend on the tour guide you get. There are some pretty knowledgeable and entertaining ones but some not so much. There were 2 women tour guides that were below standards in terms of the information and details provided. If this happens I suggest hopping off and waiting for the next bus. Buses were comfortable and smooth. However, the staff at the main office was somewhat rude; we bought a 2 day pass and nobody explained that we needed to keep the bracelet given that first day. The lady at the office today was argumentative and said that is impossible that nobody explained it and had us fill out a form to show the tour guide that we had paid. We also called the office today to ask where exactly to wait for the bus and they did not talk in English and proceeded to start laughing at us. They had a few young girls at the office but they should teach them to be more professional and give them English lessons. In any case the highlight of the tour was this tour guide that shared so much information and made the experience somewhat positive.

There was only one amazing tour guide Seal - that was what the stars is for - there is no actual stops that are posted (they say the city doesn’t allow it ) you basically waste time waiting for bus to come or trying to find the bus. I literally waited over an hour and had to call them. So not really worth the money … it would be great if it worked like it is truly meant to be - and on and off bus. In addition, you wait so long and bus drivers are not nice when your running to get bus because they don’t pick up at the area you got dropped off and they are forced to open doors. There needs to be changes!

The first bus we got on seemed very old and shook at every stop. The PA system wasn't very good which made it hard to hear the tour guide. The second bus we got on was much better. I didn't catch his name but our guide was very informative and even cracked jokes. Learned a lot about Montreal as a first time visitor. Would gladly recommend him and Gray Line!!

Had a pleasant experience myself! Some of the previous reviews were scaring me but I thought I’d still give them a chance and I enjoyed it! Norman the driver/tour guide was very informative and knew so much history about Montreal! He took us everywhere in the bus, took short cuts when he saw traffic building up and was just such a delight! Would definitely recommend!

We were in Montreal recently and did the hop on hop off bus tour. The commentary was done by a guide, not the recorded commentary accessed through ear buds we have had on previous tours. Possibly because we usually choose City Sightseeing buses where available. The guides were very personable and knowledgeable. We were only in Montreal for one whole day and felt a bit miffed that we could only buy a two day ticket.

The 3.5 hr tour left on time and the coach was comfortable. The guide was fluent in English and French. Unfortunately, there were some very young children on the bus (under the age of 5) who cried and screamed for most of the tour which greatly affected the enjoyment for all other passengers. The operator should modify their policy to not allow children under 6. Also, several major highlight were omitted (e.g. Notre Dame Basilica, Mary Queen of the World Cathedral, Saint Helen Island) due to traffic, road closures and congestion issues.

I bought a combination pass - 2 days, 1 night tour. The first day was great and had amazing guides. I did end up stuck at their starting point for several hours waiting for the night tour at 7. Unfortunately the underground city closes at 5 on Sunday. Eventually the bus arrived and everyone pushed & shoved to get on first so despite the fact I was there first, I almost didn’t get a seat upstairs. Fortunately I did but then things changed. Due to being stopped in traffic, I knew I wouldn’t be able to continue without using a restroom so when they offered a courtesy stop at the old harbor, I got off. The representative in the red shirt told me to meet right where we were in one hour. 45 minutes later I met at that spot but when the bus arrived, the driver pointed up the road. With bad knees I almost didn’t make it to the bus - it was quite a jog. There were no seats upstairs and one downstairs (side facing). People were literally laying around sleeping. At another stop a few downstairs got off so I at least got a forward facing seat. But I saw absolutely nothing. It was a long ride and quite disappointing. I’d like to say the tour was informative but I couldn’t hear over the people talking in front of me. Today I tried again. The bus broke down at stop 4. Another showed up after a wait but only had 11 spots. People crowded the bus because of course they have to. When I saw the line starting to form, I realized it was too hot to stay there then hoping to get a decent seat.. I gave up. I’ve been on these tours before in other cities but this was not worth it.

We decided to get the hop on hop off bracelet and it was worth it. We had 3 full tours total and our last one was the best. Lily the tour guide was excellent at explain and would do it in languages to accommodate people and she was very educated about the city. She was the reason we took the tour again. Frankie was our bus driver and he was equally as amazing. He even helped us on and off, cleaned the seats upstairs and went above and beyond. Thank you!
