Beautiful venue. Went to see Don Carlos in June 2024. Will be back for more shows! Just stay safe with the surroundings outside. Best to walk with another person or a group at night. Parking can be hard as well. Suggest Uber or taxi to and from venue

Great spot for shows! Beautiful decor and ceilings. Intimate setting to see your favorite band up close and personal. Balcony areas as well for great stage views.

It's beautiful inside. Sound is great for a Small place. Tickets for my show were super cheap at $30. I saw Steely Dead, a great fusion tribute band. The bar was never packed. They kept water with cups on the end. I ordered an $8 slice. Wow! The crust & sauce were true Italian style, with real cheese & fresh basil. Staff was super friendly & helpful. Bathrooms were clean & nice. Parking was free right out front with the exception of 4 -6pm daily street sweeping

Google
Great venue although merch table room by venue was cash only and ATM didn't work. The place has cool ceilings and mirrors along with wonderful sound. PSA: wearing a cowboy hat to a show is rude. Be considerate of how much space you are taking up.

such a beautiful historic venue! the staff members are so helpful and kind. the bathrooms are well kept too. will definitely be here again in the future :)

First time attending a show here. The place was awesome. Its an old theatre with a balcony and is in great shape. The sound was really good. The place was clean with a classic bar. Not much in the way of seating but there were some chairs and I was able to park my butt and rest my old bones for a few minutes.

Google
Great venue. Beautiful interior. Fast bartenders allow you to stay focused on the show. The lady bartender upstairs was killing it! Mezcal paloma $14. Great sound. Plenty of options to enjoy the show: buzzy main floor, balconies with lots of room, rear mezzanine seating, etc. It's like Choose Your Own Adventure. Clean bathrooms, good door management. Love it all.

Google
This is an intimate venue that also has some seating available if you are interested in eating- mostly fried/bar food but still a nice option. Good view from pretty much anywhere inside. There's only 2 all-gender restroom stalls on the main floor so the line can take a bit, but it's honestly not terrible. I always look forward to shows here!

Yelp
I'm a bit of a wierdo and I like to carry a portable fan with me on the regular. It's become key for me when going out - especially in crowded dance situations. I always appreciate how kind and professional the staff are at Great American Music Hall - when it comes to entry into this historical space and my time spent inside. I often come here equipped with a bag full of 'necessary unnecessaries' (facial sprays, drawing pens etc) and my handy fan. The staff have always been patient with me - when doing the necessary security check on my bag and some even appreciate my sidekick of a fan. You can tell a lot about a space/business by their staff. The staff here are always kind and welcoming - and all seem to work well together. I am so thankful that Great American Music Hall continues to be a fantastic musical beacon in San Francisco. A big thanks to their amazing staff for helping allow people to enjoy live music in such a unique and beautiful space. Trust.

Yelp
I enjoyed it in 2003..after one year of college ..with my former classmates ..all of them ..it fits a whole group from one high school ..that like bands ..for a dance like homecoming ... But it's not school dance music ..it's art rock ..put it that way ..art rock from rock werchter ..with your scene hair and indie glam clothes .. That review posted a ten year anniversary ...this year is 2025 ...that was then..life is short ...when your hair says a dare and declare Claire

Yelp
Visited this venue recently for a concert for the very first time! I had never heard of this venue prior to visiting but it was really beautiful and ornate on the inside. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I had a plastic water bottle in my bag that I forgot to finish. The security guard let me know I can dump the water and refill with water on the inside. He also gave me directions on where it would be as I go in. Concert was very chill and laid back. I did feel like the bass was strong and I couldn't hear some of the singers sometimes but that's ok. When the lights would go on, it was nice to see the art on the building walls and beams. It was nice that this venue had water cups + chairs for people if they needed. I definitely took advantage of both.

Yelp
Clean venue, friendly workers, good sound system. Love that they validate parking and their bathrooms are STOCKED with tp, toilet seat covers, and paper towels. I didn't feel anxious at this venue, and I would come again to see an artist I love!

Yelp
Went to the GAMH two nights in a row during the Grateful Dead 60th anniversary celebration. Hated it both times. The staff despises their clientele. Everyone working there is frantic and miserable, conducting unnecessary searches at the door. They make you stand in certain areas. The water they serve is warm. It's just not a fun environment. After the show I walked outside and discovered my phone died and I tried to walk back in to find my friends and they wouldn't let me. Guy was a proper cock about it, too. "We're done!" Yes, I know we are. I'm trying to go home, prick. Do you actually think I want to stay in your shitty club? I'll never go back there.

Yelp
I went here for the first time last night to see George Clanton with Slater and I had the best time. The drinks were similarly priced to other small venues in the area. Overall, the sound quality and visuals were excellent. I had plenty of room to dance with my friends despite it being a sold out show. I can't say enough good things about this venue and I'm excited to see many more shows here!!

Yelp
This venue, very fun and intimate! Loved that it was a quick walk inside. Fun to explore both the floor and upstairs. Lots of seating upstairs to get a nice view. Main floor had a good bar, decently priced drinks, friendly staff and a good amount of open space. Getting there is a little sketchy, defs recommend an Uber since it's in the tenderloin but the venue itself was entertaining to be at!

Yelp
Attended SF Sketchfest's Porchlight Storytelling Series here this past weekend and thought it was an impressive venue. Lovely architecture and design and lighting fixtures throughout (the walls, ceilings and even the balconies), the interior was like a mini cathedral. A nice intimate setting for an array of performances, though it felt a bit small for such a popular event on Saturday, so seats got full really early... luckily we managed to find two seats on the balcony 30 minutes before showtime, but it was tough. They serve both food and drinks here, and there's a bar on each floor. Second level bar had a shorter line than the lines downstairs. Got weak but delicious cocktails, as well as a glass of the Annabella Pinot Noir 2020 Russian River Valley, a smooth taste which I enjoyed. The event was entertaining with an okay view from the balcony, but we could only see two thirds of the stage, and only if standing up over those sitting along the edge of the balcony (front row). So sitting upstairs isn't ideal for viewing, but seating is flexible, so you can move bar height stools (and regular chairs) wherever is fitting for best viewing upstairs; there are several tables up there as well. The temperature was scorching hot on the balcony though, and this is during winter, so it got a bit stuffy with only so many layers that could be removed. Sound on stage was great, nice and clear, ideal volume. Service was efficient, no delays, no problems. Though not perfect, I really liked the venue overall. And street parking seemed to be plentiful just a block away on a Saturday night.

Yelp
Didn't expect much but was very satisfied for the venue. I did spot hero parking a few blocks away- just have to be mindful of surroundings as you walk and don't leave any valuables in car. Service was great- I sat upstairs at their limited seating and someone came around for food and drink. Bonus is you're not obligated to order if you get a seat and they were super nice about it. Cute little venue with bathrooms and both floors. They had water available to fill your own empty container or just use disposable cups they have. Bring ear plugs/loops etc to save your ears. Expect to come at least 30 mins before the show if you want seating. Have fun!!

Yelp
This concert hall is a great San Francisco institution. Many great musicians have played here over the years. This intimate venue is one of my favorite places to watch a show because there are no bad views of the stage. I came here to see Roc Marciano. Good place to listen to music during the Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall, go to the Great American Music Hall.

Yelp
Love this venue. We were here for NYE to see Twin temple and it was amazing. The staff at the venue is friendly efficient and welcoming. The venue itself is beautiful and reminiscent of San Francisco in a decadent past. The bathrooms are well kept and to show how attentive the staff is here, when they noticed a line for the lower bathroom they escorted us to the 2nd floor bathroom. If I'm ever on the fence about going out to see a band, know that the band is playing at the great American music hall will definitely sway me to buy a ticket and go out. They do have food at some shows and the food has always been fantastic. Parking - both lots and street parking are within walking distance but as in any place in SF make sure to pay attention to the street signs. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Came here last night to see the 30th Anniversary of the Lemonheads It's a Shame About Ray album. Unfortunately, Evan Dando was in no shape to do a show (extremely high on something). I've been to this venue before and it continues to be a good small venue experience. There's some seating, with small tables along the lower floor walls plus some along the balcony, which wraps around the room. As others have reviewed here, it's cool that their drinks aren't expensive; also I agree with others about the sound being muddled, lacking clarity. It's funny, I noticed a lot of the younger members of the audience wearing earplugs (the show must have had even worse sound quality for them). I remarked to the woman next to me, this is loud? Back in my day... But, it's cool. Good to see that these younger generations care about such things.

Yelp
A diverse line up here. Recently visited here for Kinna Grannie concert. Incredible acoustics for vocalist and independent concepts. Second floor has a cafe seating usually full. Very affordable but always full. Overlooking the balcony is an incredible sight. Definitely take pictures on both levels. The decor and acoustics and lighting is incredible. We parked far away and Uber'ed here for easy parking. Some concerts allow in and out privilege with a special stamp

Yelp
Had an amazing time at the Gogol Bordelo show this weekend. Staff was super nice. Had a great seat and view of the screening and show. Such a gem of a venue. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Great architecture and a beautiful design on the ceilings. There's a small bar tucked away in the corner with very affordable drinks. I got a Tequila Pineapple for only $8! Every view in the venue is pretty decent! Since it's fairly small, it's even easy to see the stage from the entrance. They have an upper balcony too, but it has very limited since there's only one row of chairs. The tickets for this venue are also really affordable. Parking can be a bit of a pain since it's all metered street parking... but my friends were very lucky to get a spot right in front of the venue! The biggest downside of this venue was the audio. It was very difficult to hear some of the artists performing. The instrumentals and amps would drown out the singer's voice at times (ESPECIALLY the bass)!

Yelp
Came here last night for a house show and had a great time!! What made it such a great experience was the fact that they didn't oversell the venue! People weren't too upset when you walked through the crowd, there was room to dance and people respected personal space all because they didn't oversell! I also love that they have coat check on the second floor in the back that way the front isn't too crowded as people come in. Also bars on each floor each floor helped to spread people out at the venue. Big fan of The GAMH!

Yelp
Music meets elegance. Great location where you can be close to the music no matter where you stand. Los Campesinos were amazing and chose the location well. Beautiful and ornate venue

Asaf N.

Yelp
American football was playing so yeah it was pretty cool. The place was cool too. What else... the vibes were chill and the sound was booming.

Yelp
The Hall is yet another brilliant venue in San Francisco. The space looks and sounds amazing, and the staff who work there are lovely. They also seem to snag quite the line-up of bands rolling through town. Things to like: -Multiple floors for your viewing needs -Multiple bars for your beverage needs -Food packages if you want to do more of a dinner and a show thing (this will also get you some nice seating) -Beautiful surroundings I could say something about the cons of the general location but will just leave that as more of a choose your own adventure.

Yelp
Legendary venue. Incredible place to see a band. Very historic. Just be careful in the area around the building and don't be a mark.

Daniel F.

Yelp
This is my favorite venue in San Francisco. Not only is The staff amazing, but the space is wonderful. They run a show like it's supposed to be done. Thank You for making the concert experience so fun.

Leeza P.

Yelp
Very rude entrance person. I am sensitive to many substances and I didn't want to have ink on my skin. People were moving through quickly getting stamped after handing over their IDs. I asked if the stamp was to allow people to drink alcohol. He said yes, I said, "Well, I'm not going to drink and I don't want a stamp." Then he threatened me with: "If you don't want a stamp, you get two stamps. If you want one, you just get one." I felt pressured and allowed him to stamp my hand. I wish instead he had told me what the house preference or policy was about opting out/in or asked me to step aside until the line died down so he or other personnel could try to accommodate this accessibility issue. This happened on Tue. 11/19/24

Skylar P.

Yelp
I had a really disappointing experience at this venue. Despite enjoying the music and only having two drinks , I was falsely accused of being too drunk which I was not even remotely close and was almost kicked out .The staff were rude and unprofessional, which completely ruined my night. I won't be returning. Be careful girls if you make one wrong step or "stumble" they will accuse you of being too drunk and try to make you leave. and It looks like I wasn't the only one this happened to last night. Zero stars will literally never return

Zachary C.

Yelp
Got here all good, then friend of ours tripped and suddenly the bouncers thought she was incredibly drunk and didn't let her into the venue all night. Very unprofessional.
google avatar

Frank V.

Yelp
Some of the staff are friendly and they also validated parking across the street which is about half off the total fee. The only issue is when you purchase a ticket for admission you also have to pay a separate fee to sit down. So you can be standing for hours which is kind of hard to do in my condition. There were plenty of chairs that were not being used and when I sat in one of the unused chairs a staff member came up to me and told me that I wasn't allowed to sit because I didn't pay the additional fee. Unfortunately I couldn't stay for the entire event due to the amount of discomfort I was experiencing.

Yelp
Service was Gr8! The venue is one of a kind!! Beautiful Architecture! Mgr. Dillon took care of Early Moods Band! Sound was Crisp!! Kudos to Sounds n Light Engineers!!

Yelp
This is an historical review. I haven't been here in decades, but in the 70s, when they booked jazz, I was here a lot. I got to thinking about it this morning as I was listening to to Sarah Vaughan on KCSM-FM (today's her birthday anniversary). Most often I went alone, but sometimes w/ a partner or a friend. I remember one night after a concert walking by myself down the middle of the street to my car because it felt safer than walking down the sidewalk where someone could hide in a doorway and jump out at me. I sat pretty much everywhere, upstairs in the balcony and on the ground floor. I have no memory of the cost, but I didn't have much money, so it wasn't that much. I saw/heard Sarah Vaughan, Joe Williams, Toots Thielmanns, Dizzy Gillespie, Chick Corea, the Count Basie Band and others lost in the mists of time. It was a fabulous venue. There was an earthquake in the middle of the Basie concert and the music was so intense I didn't even feel it. When I heard Toots Thielmanns the electricity went out but he played anyway and it was intimate and cool. There was a bit of lighting, I forget from what. It was a nice sized venue w/ great sound, between the small clubs like Keystone Corner and the large venues like the Masonic Auditorium. I have such lovely memories of evenings spent here I wanted to leave them a loving review.

Yelp
Beautiful local. I appreciated that the space was first come first serve. Didn't try the food but drinks were good. Bartender was little rude and it was extremely hot BUT it was overall good. I will definitely be looking out for more shows to attend here.
google avatar

Chas A.

Yelp
Very nice space; great old-school decor. The place is not too cavernous, but a good size for a reasonably sized audience. There is a nice open area in front of the stage and table around the edge of the venue (and on the balconly). Two bars (one on the balcony) are run efficiently, and prices are reasonable (especially compared to the Warfield, which is SHOCKINGLY overpriced). Sound system is good, and can even handle hardcore/heavy metal bands playing at pretty loud volumes. Great mix of bands play there, and ticket prices are not too bad. Overall, worth checking out!
google avatar

Yelp
I'm not a frequent visitor of Yelp, but I feel so very drawn towards writing a review about GAMH based on my outstanding experience. I just visited the venue this past weekend to see one of my favorite bands (The Voidz), and whilst it wasn't my first time in SF, it was my first at this venue. Regardless? I'd actually gotten in touch with the venue months prior, because my dingus-brain purchased the wrong tickets. The woman I spoke to was so unbelievably kind, and helped me get what I needed within minutes! I already felt accommodated long before even being there, but once I was; the kindness only continued. Based on my interactions with everyone working, I could tell how much the safety and enjoyable atmosphere for show attendees meant to them. Everyone was so dang nice and fun! Also, the venue itself is SO gorgeous -- Truly! A stunning space with exceptional lighting, flawless interior/architecture, great sound, and just generally amazing ambience. I seriously can't wait to return for a future show, because the balance of sweetness and professionalism was so impressive and just really cool to be around; especially when coupled with an intimate show space that felt like a home. Thank you for a magical experience, and for hosting the top concert I've ever been to. :-)

Mark T.

Yelp
Great small venue for music! Screening is purely for your tickets, which I appreciate. No bad acoustics or lines of sight, and there is available seating, small tables upstairs along with more bathrooms and another bar. Drinks are very reasonably priced and earplugs are free, unlike most other venues (*cough* Warfield).
google avatar

Isabella A.

Yelp
Was there for the first time last Thursday to catch the band Mac Sabbath. Tbh I was a little skeptical at first after reading some of the negative reviews here, but my own personal experience with GAMH turned out quite the opposite.I found the staff to be courteous, helpful and even friendly(something I did not experience at the Warfield cos Warfield staff sucks)...Only bad thing that happened was some drunk clumsy ahole who accidentally stepped on my foot, but overall I did enjoy the concert immensely, and the ambience of the hall and architecture is very beautiful, with a very rich history(Robin Williams did a show here in 1982)...The sound of the place is nice too and gets really loud. After the band played I even got to meet and talk to the singer, and one of the staff was nice enough to take our picture together. I left feeling good, and definitely feel I'll comeback in case another interesting band comes by. Very good experience for me at GAMH,and was beyond my expectations.

Yelp
I went to see Armor for Sleep here with my partner. It's kinda in the Tenderloin, so I parked at a nearby garage to avoid my car getting stolen/broke into. It was our first show since the start of the pandemic. To get in, a staff member took our temperatures and then checked to make sure the dates and names on our vaccine records were right. I had my actual card with me, and my partner had a photocopy. It looked like they were also accepting digital versions as well. Tickets were scanned at the door. Inside, the venue is beautiful, ornate and TINY. There isn't anywhere to sit on the main floor, but it looked like there were some seating in the balcony. I never went upstairs, so I don't have the deets. The bar is also tiny, but they had a decent selection of beers. The bartender was plenty nice to me but honestly they could have slapped me across the face and I wouldn't have cared because the beer was UNDER $10. I have become so accustomed to paying $13 for a beer at shows so it was a breath of fresh air to pay $9 for an Anchor Steam. As far as the show went, I enjoyed myself. My partner was more into the music than I was, but I thought everything sounded good in terms of the audio. It's hard to judge a venue's acoustics (especially when you've only been there once) because whatever audio technician is there can really determine the sound quality. Everyone was told that masks had to be worn unless actively eating and drinking, and for the most part everyone complied. I didn't see any staff tell people to put their masks on, but I don't think that they really had to because people were just following the rules. There are certain areas where you can't stand (fire lanes, staff pathways) and staff will tell you to move. This is a small club, with a handful of staff managing a crowd while deafening music plays overhead. The staff isn't the warmest, but this isn't Disneyland. A little venue doesn't have managers standing around to nod sympathetically and apologize as you air your grievances, so manage your expectations. If you're someone who is traumatized by the word "no" or feels entitled to exceptions, you're gonna have a hard time. I went to the box office the day after to buy tix for Nitzer Ebb (the online processing fees are excessive) and the box office rep took my name and email. When I asked why she needed that info, she said it was in case something happened to my tickets. Other venues usually tell you that hard stock tickets are like cash and if anything happens to em you're SOL. I think it's cool that they at least do something to keep track of patrons and their physical tickets.
google avatar

Kev B.

Yelp
The space is beautiful and well maintained but the sound system can be way too much for the space. My brain is still rattled from the unnecessary loudness last night. The sound guy must be hard of hearing
google avatar

Yelp
The GAMH has always been a favorite venue. We recently attending one of the Residents concerts, and were very impressed with how they treated everyone. Even though they opened the doors almost to the minute that doors were announced they apologized for any delays. Everyone was friendly and helpful. While the kitchen isn't fully functional yet, they did have some appetizers and the prices on their drinks menu were quite reasonable. The sound and sight-lines are always great. It was a pleasure to get back there after so much time without concerts or events!

Sabrina G.

Yelp
Beautiful venue - great acoustics and loud music Very clean bathrooms both upstairs and downstairs No coat check which is a bummer

Yelp
Recently went here for a concert for the first time The building itself is beautiful inside & out When I got there I was asked to finish my water outside as they don't allowed drinks in, they asked me to open my bag but only did the slight peek inside, no pat down or anything, walked in was greeted & asked to show ID Merchandise booths inside, Surrounded by mirrors on the walls & beautiful architecture From the bar I got some popcorn chicken with buffalo on the side, They were pretty good & they gave me a good fulfilling portion, came with old celery sticks but i didn't eat those. 20min wait but it is a bar not a fast food place so no complaints & on top of that bartender was super welcoming & friendly (: I had the chance to get barricade for the concert, only cons to that would be that the photographers kept coming in & out so me & the girl behind me had to keep moving for them all throughout the concert which was ANNOYING Overall great experience & i was able to bring in my vape with no backlash from the workers when they'd see the smoke. idk how they'd feel about everything else though.

Yelp
Two nights ago my 67 year old father was assaulted by 4-5 of the security staff at The Great American Music Hall. Today he is left bruised with a possible broken rib. After reading some other reviews it seems sketch security is a common theme for this venue. It's also worth mentioning my father was not drunk, rowdy, or being a danger to anyone whatsoever.
google avatar

Natalie G.

Yelp
The security staff at The Great American Music Hall need to be nicer to people requiring ADA seating. Chuck didn't know to ask about having to reserve ADA seating. After calling them (while in the venue), they told us to "you needed to reserve the seating." We got that but if 2 of the 6 seats were taking, what happens to other 4!? Legally, they can't deny us a seat. Chuck only asked for one and was willing to stand the rest of the show; he and I were up the flight of stairs twice already, looking for any type of seat for me and... by now my knee and feet were pulsating. Finally, the head of security (Billy?), "blessed" us by allowing us to sit in the designated seating. I asked "Billy" if there was an elevator. His response was, "You've already been up there twice already. You can't do it again!?" The sarcasm and disdain in his voice was palpable. My only response was," So the short answer is no!?" Billy: "Follow me." and leads us back upstairs. Not a thank you for your understanding. Not even an apology (even if it was forced, I would have appreciated it). Take heed and request appropriate seating ahead of time at ANY venue. #ada #adaseating #thegreatamericanmusichall #mykneehurts #noelevator

Yelp
My hand stamp was gone after washing my hands once. They should do an arm stamp instead of hand. THE BEST PART WAS THE SELF SERVE WATER REFILLING STATION SO I DIDN'T HAVE TO WAIT IN THE LONG ALCOHOL LINE!!! Bathroom was clean. We were able to get chairs on the balcony and the servers were very helpful. We didn't order any food but they didn't ignore us. It would be nice if they offered some worth of dessert on their menu. Ice cream. Cookies. Candy. Security was good. Had things under control.

Yelp
We attended a concert last night for Damien Escobar and had early entry tickets. Our tickets were at will call and there were two separate lines. Luckily I asked people in the two lines, what the lines were for. One was for general admission and the other was for the early entry ticket holders who paid extra to get in a half an hour earlier. However, the venue didn't let us in at 6:30 but rather at 6:45 pm. I was hoping that Damien Escobar would have a meet and greet before the 8 pm show, but I guess, time was too short. Since there are no reserved seats, we wanted to get in earlier to get good seating for a great view. Luckily we got the last table in the front row near the stage. It was awesome. Bathrooms are wheelchair accessible but there are only two (one for men and one for women) and one or two in the balcony level. We had plenty of time to order drinks from the server and they also have hot food available for purchase. It's a cozy intimate place, perfect for the kind of music that Damien Escobar plays and we all wanted to chill and enjoy the music. There's even room in front of the stage for a little dancing, which Damien encouraged us to do during some of the numbers. It was a great show and I would come back if there was a headliner like Damien Escobar performing. Parking may be a problem and the area is a bit sketchy near the old Mitchell Brothers Adult Theatre so we took Uber to the venue from Civic Center Bart.

Yelp
DONT GET THE POP!!! 3/3 MISSES!!! Scenery and bands r cool but oh my mary do they have the worst pop I have ever tried!

Yelp
The venue is gorgeous and intimate, well lit, and has great sound. Reminds me of an opera house. We went to see Tim Atlas and Daniela Andrade perform, and purchased dinner tickets so that we could have priority entry and a meal. Food is okay - nothing fancy - but the portions were larger than expected. It's a three course meal that consists of a basic garden salad with ranch dressing, your choice of entree (our options that evening were a Beef Bourgnignon, fish & chips, and a zucchini/feta pancake), and then ice cream for dessert - vanilla with your choice of topping (strawberry, chocolate, or caramel). My husband and I both opted for the fish & chips since it was something we could easily eat with our hands or a fork, didn't require any slicing, etc. With the dinner tickets, you have the option of sitting along the balcony or at a larger table. To be honest, you can't see from the tables, so sit at the balcony areas. It's a little cramped, because the table is just like a large block without a cutout space for your legs, so it can get a little uncomfortable. I was able to eat first, and lean over to watch the opening act, and then when the main performer came out, I stood up so I could have a better view. I am also a bit height challenged, but if you're taller than I am, you can probably see just fine without needing to stand.

Yelp
Gorgeous venue. I wish I was interested in more shows coming because this is one of my new favorite venues. I don't live in the city so it's difficult to get there if you're running a little late because it's not super close to a BART station, but it's not unwalkable. The first time I took a Lyft from the BART station because it was pouring rain. If you're walking alone at night be aware, but it wasn't a totally awful area. The venue is very long and it has a pretty small stage, but it's got beautiful moulding. You have an option to buy dinner before the show, so you get there early and sit upstairs (or downstairs, depending on the show) where they serve you dinner. I don't know what the food is like because I didn't get it. There's an upstairs balcony where you can see below, there's also a bar and a bathroom upstairs. There's two single-person bathrooms downstairs and a bar there too. There is no side stage so you can see everything on the sides, which I think is cool. I saw Senses Fail and Vanessa Carlton there. Senses Fail had standing room on the floor and there were crowdsurfers, but the staff didn't seem prepared for that, the crowd was right up against the stage so a lot of the crowdsurfers ended up on the stage. Vanessa Carlson was much more lax and there were tables on the floor so everyone sat, it was very intimate and very nice. It's an intimate venue that has pretty good sound and good staff. I've never had issues with security at every venue, and this one was the same.

Yelp
Perhaps San Francisco's most beautiful music venue. Great sound too! The eclectic offerings rarely disappoint and the ticket prices are generally low enough to warrant taking chances; discover artists beyond your usual listening comfort zone. Mostly general admission shows with primarily standing room, which I prefer. A full bar is available, including a few good craft beers on tap.

Yelp
Old school theater is an ideal place to see bands in a smaller more intimate setting. The detail on the columns and ceiling indicate that this is a throwback to days when architectural elements were truly celebrated. Good bar with lots of smaller distillery booze. They have Lagunitas, Heretic, and Mission on tap. Also a nod to working man tastes, with Pabst, Victoria and Tecate in cans. We saw Mother Hips there...perfect venue for a cult band. Loud, good acoustics, fantastic goodwill to all man. Eat it up. Enjoy.

Yelp
Last evening my friend and I attended the Hermanos Gutierrez show at the Great American Music Hall. After suffering a stroke, my friend has become disabled and walks unsteadily with a cane. He needed to be dropped off curbside while I parked the car. Upon my return, I found him seated in an area close to the stage where there are usually no chairs allowed, along with a great view. At one point on his way back from the restroom, he stopped at the bar to order a drink. Shorty after he returned, the bartender carried to our table the two drinks he purchased. Throughout the night staff checked in on him to ensure he was comfortable. I want to thank the entire staff at the GAMH for their kindness and compassion! What I was expecting to be a somewhat arduous experience, was easy and enjoyable. I want to give a shout out to "Zander" who assisted us from start to finish last night. We want you to know you made our night!!!!

Yelp
Came here this past Tuesday night for a Boyce Avenue concert (Jeff LeBlanc opened). This venue is a 4 star if you come with the right expectations and come prepared. Pros: - there is street parking around that is not metered after a certain time, just make sure you have valuables hidden (put everything in your trunk beforehand, it's like the area is super sketch but I don't like putting stuff in my trunk when I get here and people can see what I'm putting in my trunk). - Bart-able: you can get off at Civic Center or Powell and it's a 15 min walk to this venue, not bad. - Intimate venue - Boyce Ave is the perfect caliber of band to see live here: semi-famous, where it won't be overly crowded, but enough people will come to give it critical mass. - Decent acoustics - I was on the floor, decently close to the stage - but perfect venue for an acoustic-style band like Boyce. They fully unplugged for a song and it still sounded really great. - Upper balcony/dining area seating if you're feeling low key and want to sit - this was mostly older folks sitting up here, but I heard you can see the stage from wherever in the balcony you're sitting (these actually filled up first) - Seats/tables on the side - but you have to come early if you want to nab these. - Bar in the back near the door "Cons": - charge $ for coat check: so ideally if you come here, bring a small purse/fanny pack, and a jacket you can tie around your waist (concerts with crowds will always get hot - don't be like my friend who wore a vest and had to hang it on my purse because he got hot halfway through) - small: but that just means you have to see the right kind of act here - I like small venues like this - the dude checking bags/metal detector scanning everyone kind of acted like he hated his job

Yelp
This really is a gorgeous music hall. Think Fox Theatre in Oakland meets Swedish American Music Hall and you get this vintage music hall that houses guests all around and projects music throughout well. Close views of the performer may be a little difficult if you aren't closer to the front, as the room can get packed, but you can generally get a good view and seat all around. Besides the ambiance, the amenities are great. In-house bar at the back stocked well with friendly bartenders (love their selection of specialty cocktails!). Seated dining with staff ready to approach and serve you, grab you a drink or start a tab. They also offer dinner service upstairs, and more lounge-y views from there. Another bar upstairs and more intimate seating. Restrooms are few and can get pretty long lines (ladies, go there during sets or right when the set ends if you don't mind, haha). Definitely an intimate music hall with good acoustics all-around. Not the biggest music hall, and the dance floor almost looks like a ballroom dance floor, but it's cozy and nice and a classic divey venue. P.S. Surrounding area can feel a little sketch considering it's by the Tenderloin, but there are lots of Asian Thai/Vietnamese restaurants around that are a grrat quick bite pre or post-concert!
