Great Fosters (Egham, Surrey) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Once a Tudor hunting lodge, Great Fosters has centuries of stories built into its beams, from royal crests and Queen Anne’s four-poster to Charlie Chaplin checking in for a quiet escape. Today, it balances tales from the past with a streak of mischief: electric blue velvets, antler chandeliers, Jacobean fireplaces, and a sundial said to be gifted by Sir Francis Drake. Set in 50 acres of gardens, complete with a heated pool, tennis court, and moated topiary, it’s a stay that moves easily between period drama and playful escape. The gin is made in-house. So is the honey." - Tablet Hotels

I received a voucher for Afternoon Tea for my birthday and went with my friend on Saturday, the 10th of January. It was absolutely lovely! Above all, the service provided by Eunice was outstanding. She has such a warm and friendly personality and is clearly dedicated to ensuring guests have a wonderful experience. I had the same afternoon tea over a year ago with my brother and sister-in-law, and Eunice was there then as well, I remembered her immediately for her attentiveness. The food was excellent overall, although the sweet bites didn’t feel quite as fresh as expected. Other than that, we truly loved the experience and had a great time. Thank you for a lovely afternoon in your beautiful hotel!

First of all it is a dog friendly hotel. That for us was a huge win. They even had water for dogs and beddings. Second - the property is a stunner with landscaped gardens. Wedding venue like. In fact there was a wedding while we were there. The breakfast room gets cramped maybe cause of wedding guests. The outdoor eating was much more pleasurable. Would be a great summer stay. The rooms are far away from the lobby but they helped with the bags. Limited food choices. We had a car so we found restaurants in towns nearby.

We were fortunate enough to hold our daughter’s wedding here last week. Thank you to Emma for sorting and arranging an incredible wedding . What a fabulous couple of days we spent here. The venue is amazing and created a gorgeous back drop for the day. We had sole use of the Tithe Barn, the bar area and the Orangery. All are splendid in their own way. The grounds are beautiful, just lovely for photographs. The staff were exemplary all around the hotel, a special shout out to the ladies in the breakfast restaurant and the lovely young man who catered for our many needs on the Friday morning in the Nursery suite. We used this room the night before and night of the ceremony as it sleeps 4 people and was a wonderful room for the bridal party to get ready in. Other rooms we used were ‘Deans’ (no.25) which was a spacious King size room with the softest most comfortable bed and a bathroom with roll top bath and separate shower which was incredible. Room 37 was a cosy double and was perfectly sized with all the usual facilities. The bridal suite (Queen Anne) was also incredible. Staff at the wedding were as you would hope, so efficient that you didn’t know they were there most of the time. Great job by the bar staff. Everyone worked very hard but we’re always polite . Everything was faultless, we had the best time and would recommend this as a wedding venue. One small issue afterwards was one of our guests lost a gold bracelet and when she telephoned reception and asked if it may have been found she found the staff member to be quite rude and unhelpful sadly. Such a shame as everything else was fabulous 🤗

This is my third stay at this hotel, with this visit celebrating a very dear and close friend’s 60th. ||The Assistant Hotel Manager Adam Hulme, took the time to communicate and acknowledge the reason for this special stay and reunion. He was very personable which made me feel comfortable to communicate with him prior to our stay. Amazing customer service, thank you Adam! ||Great Fosters has an ambiance which is warm and inviting. The décor reflects the history of this hotel. I love the period features.||Each bedroom I have stayed in has been warm and inviting. I love the uniqueness of the rooms throughout this hotel, including the dog friendly section. ||The landscape garden areas and a bridge over streaming water with a fountain is so picturesque. Great to sit in the cocktail bar sipping on a drink and taking in the views.

We enjoyed a wonderful, one-night stay at Great Fosters, following our return from a Mediterranean cruise. We selected this hotel because of its unique charm, English garden, Michelin rated restaurant (Tudor Pass) on premise and proximity to Heathrow for our early flight the next morning. Built as a royal hunting lodge in the 16th Century, the hotel is steeped in history.||Great Fosters was everything we expected, and more. Though we arrived early and our room was not yet prepared, we were warmly welcomed and took advantage of the time to walk the gardens on the property and share a drink in the bar.||Our room was spacious, well-appointed and very comfortable. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Tudor Pass, where the food was creative, artfully presented and delicious. Prior to our flight the following morning, we had great breakfast in the breakfast room, where a very comprehensive breakfast menu is presented.||Throughout our stay, the staff in the hotel, restaurants and bar could not have been more accommodating or provided better service. If you are seeking a unique and charming experience, Great Fosters is for you.

I had the absolute joy of photographing a wedding at Great Foster's in September 2025 and it was such a wonderful experience. The venue itself is stunning - offering so many opportunities for beautiful wedding photos. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful to both myself, other wedding suppliers and the guests, and this makes such a difference when choosing / working at a wedding venue. The beauty and atmosphere of this venue really helped me to create wedding photos that encapsulated the feel of the occasion and I cannot wait to photograph another wedding here again soon. Highly recommended.

We had a festive afternoon tea with friends at Great Fosters this week.||The atmosphere of the hotel was very festive and the lovely Tudor building was dressed well for Christmas with trees and a Gingerbread house display. The food was excellent and the staff very attentive. However they seem to have a lack of ‘proper’ tea to drink what has happened to the Darjeeling, Lady Grey or Assam? Fruit infusions are not the kind of tea drank with a traditional afternoon tea. ||What really lets this lovely hotel is the appalling state of the car park. It is full of pot holes, very wet and muddy when wet and has no lighting. You need old wellies rather than elegant shoes which are not the footwear suitable for a stylish hotel!!

I appreciate this is a historic and period hotel but it was very tired for the price tag. Our £300 comfy king was very small and there were actually decorators in the hall right outside our room which I've never experienced before, very odd. The cocktail bar service was fine but the room is tired and lacks any style or class. The breakfast room felt a bit like a B&B and the pastry/fruit table was very small with very little variety, however the cooked menu was decent. The grounds and building are stunning but the rest of the experience is a let down for the price.
