Great Lakes Brewing was on our must go list for visiting Cleveland.
We wanted to stop here after shopping at the Westside Market, but unfortunately the Market is closed on Wednesday, bummer!
The brewery is located inside a historic building which is gorgeous. We sat inside at the bar, luckily enough it was happy hour when we arrived. The bartender, Leigh, was wonderful and let me sample a few beers before going all in. We tried the Dortmunder Gold Lager ($6), the Eliot Ness Amber Lager ($6), and the Nitro Edmund Fitzgerald Porter ($6). All the beers were $1 off during Happy hour and were delicious. Out of the three, Nancy and I both agreed the Dortmunder was the winner. Leigh said it is one of the first beers they made which is crazy because this place was established back in 1988. Nancy's sister ordered the Grapefruit Blood Orange Martini ($7), she said it was good and it too was a $1 off during Happy hour. We were a little hungry so we decided to order their Buffalo chicken dip to share ($6), which was also $1 off during Happy hour. The appetizer was good, but I wish there was more dip to go around.
If you do visit Great Lakes Brewing definitely check out the restrooms in the basement. It's like an old dungeon down there, so cool. I highly recommend visiting this brewery if your a local or just in town visiting for a few hours.
