How Banning Plastic Straws Became 2018’s Biggest Cause | Eater

"A Greek restaurant that responded to a local ordinance by stopping the distribution of single-use utensils entirely, illustrating how small businesses sometimes adopt stricter measures or cut back services rather than invest in costly alternatives." - Brenna Houck

It’s long overdue I rate this establishment. My wife and I probably eat here at least once a week if possible. Every single meal is delicious and lovingly made. Their seasoning is great. The Greek food is authentic. The people are similarly so. This place is a local staple and you are doing yourself a terrible disservice if you don’t eat here. One of the best restaurants in Winston

Google
So many selections! You can come every day of the week and still not be tired of the food! The atmosphere is an open casual dining experience. Wait staff is attentive and polite. Parking is a bit limited. The baklava is outstanding! Great place to eat.

I recently enjoyed a meal at Grecian Corner on Eden Terrace in Winston-Salem. The Chicken Souvlaki Specialty Platter, with perfectly seasoned skewers and a fresh Greek salad, was a flavorful and satisfying choice. The Gyro Specialty Sandwich stood out with tender, well-seasoned meat and just the right amount of sauce. The staff was prompt, polite, and added to the positive experience. Both dishes were well-prepared, and I look forward to returning to try more from their menu.

Google
Customer service is great here. I love how they suggestive sale and how friendly they are. The Greek food is pretty good. The Greek salad was very delicious. I love the salad dressings and the tzatziki sauce. I got the chicken euro and then the lamb wrote the complement to it was plenty of meat more than most places. The meat was overdone a little bit more than I would want it, but besides that it was flavorful and good I would recommend this place. I would say this is a great place if you are just introducing yourself to Greek food because they have a variety.

Google
Absolutely the best greek food in Winston Salem, possibly in all of Forsyth County and beyond. No other place I have tried can match the gyro meat. We eat here at least once a week. Never have a bad experience. Dining room is a little tight because the building is small, especially when it is busy, but the wait is never long if there is one. Take out is always an option and you will watch people coming in and out for take out. A testimony to how many people love this place!

Google
We read the reviews and wanted some Greek food, so ordered takeout. Husband got the combination platter. I got the steak sandwich and fries. I don't mean to be rude, but I have no idea how food can smell that strongly and have no taste. The steak was tender. The pickle was smooshed into the sandwich. I really wanted to like it.

My wife and I enjoyed eating here after a doctor appointment in Winston Salem. This was the perfect place. The staff was friendly (Jared) and the prices are good!

Google
Really enjoyed this stop and it was the first time that I've ever had Avgolemono soup. Basically think chicken & dumplings but replace the dumplings with rice. It was very good. And the Greek salad with it was excellent. My wife had the Chicken Souvlaki which was very excellent as well.

Yelp
Another great meal here ! I wish I remembered this place more often as it's so good. I love the local feel and the menu is awesome. Food comes out quick but is fresh and homemade . Our server was a fun lady and made me smile. It's a no frills place but definitely worth a drive to. Chicken souvlaki for the win again! Also great spanakopita and French fries . Those loukamades ! Wow you can't beat those ! Delish! Love Grecian corner .

Yelp
I haven't been to Grecian Corner in years and stopped in the other day. They do an abundance of take out orders so while the inside is super small, nobody was waiting for seating. I ordered one skewer with Mediterranean salad and a cheerwine. The service was prompt and attentive. My meal with tip was $19. Parking can be tricky but there is a parking lot.
google avatar

Yelp
Always fresh and delicious! Plenty of staff to properly and adequately take care of the customers. They do lots of mobile and call in orders as well as catering!
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered through door dash the steak Philly. It was good but it seemed like mostly bread , the taste was good. The spanakopita was amazing!
google avatar

Sharon R.

Yelp
My current "go to" for authentic greek! There's spanakopita is perfectly flaky and creamy.

Yelp
Grecian corner is absolutely fantastic. The place is small but feels like you are going to have a delicious meal. Our waiter was quick to help us and promptly got us our drinks and answered some menu questions. I opted for the gyro platter and it was everything I wanted it to be! The meat was hot and the tzatziki was the perfect addition to the sandwich. I can't wait to be back!

Yelp
Decent lunch spot but could use a little more flavor. I came here with my coworkers on a Monday right at lunch time. This has been on my list for awhile and we were debating between here and Bossy Beulah. It was not busy so we were seated right away in the back. Passing the dessert case was definitely appetizing! It's a small/tight space but neat and clean. Our waitress was really nice and friendly, said she had been doing this for 25 years! We ordered an assortment of salads, pitas, gyros. My greek salad was okay - wish it were made with romaine instead of iceberg, but there was a good amount of feta and the dressing was good. The veggie pita was filled to the brim, but just didn't pack the flavor punch I was hoping/expecting. Price wise is pretty average- salad and pita were $12. I think I would give it another try and order something a little more exciting or adventurous. And definitely get a dessert next time. @azfitfoodfun

Yelp
I adore this place. Cozy inside with plenty of seating choices. Staff went (and always) goes above and beyond. They are friendly and treat everyone like family each time we visit! The food is delicious, authentic, and there is always enough for you to enjoy! I cannot say enough good things about this place.

Yelp
Second time eating at this restaurant. Good choices. I had a lamb Gyros. They were very busy. Service was attentive.

Yelp
This place has been a Winston Salem staple since 1970! Great Greek salad and I enjoyed my chicken souvlaki skewers dipped in their homemade tzatziki sauce. We tried their Spanakopita, too; spinach and feta stuffed into phyllo dough (drool!!). My husband had the steak hoagie with a side of fries. These are those good, little crispy fries. We did not leave hungry and my craving for Greek food was filled. I will add, they had a 99 grade!!! And it's consistently 99-100. I wasn't mad about the plasticware or the paper plates, either. Our waitress was great, I hate I can't remember her name, but she's worked there for 11 years! That speaks!

Yelp
I found a new favorite of mine! I've loved the taste of Greek food I've had. The local Greek festival really started my love of Greek food, so I was searching to recreate those flavors and heard Grecian Corner was well acclaimed. I will say that I see why this restaurant has been around for so long! I have never had better service in my life. Even the wait staff who weren't serving me stopped and checked on me occasionally. Everyone is incredibly friendly and hospitable. From a couple of regulars I spoke to on my first visit, that's apparently the norm for Greek culture. I was talking to a couple of the staff as they mentioned me ordering the loukoumades and I said that I was inspired to order them by a friend and was going to take her some, the waitress was already walking to get me a to go box before I even asked. The service was a large reason that I returned the next day, and the same staff noted my return and asked if I had come back for more loukoumades. All of the food I've tried so far has been great, so I'll just note my favorite parts: -I loved the consistency of the Tzatziki. It's thick and creamy, not watery! -The peppers on the gyro are a nice edition -The flavor of the chicken souvlaki marinade -The loukoumades served hot are melt in your mouth delicious! -The ICE in the drinks!! It's almost like a slushy! Ice eaters know the importance of this I love the warm and inviting atmosphere of this restaurant. It's a full package deal of excellent service and delicious food!

Yelp
I love this place. Unfortunately I now live way too far to go here often but I was there earlier today and brought food for family I would see at nearby hospital and everyone LOVED IT! One of my cousins even went back for takeout after she left the hospital to bring back to her husband. Brought Greek salad w/couple skewers of chkn, a couple orders of fried zucchini patties, an order of falafels, their awesome lemon chkn soup for my uncle who had a mild stroke and was thankfully able to eat it. Brought home an order of zucchini patties, qrt of lemon chkn soup which I promptly devoured once I got home and a chkn souvlaki platter with extra chkn skewer. The closest Mediterranean place is over 25+ miles to me so I took advantage of being able to get great food.

Yelp
I've made mention before that most of the Greek restaurants in the area are pretty mundane (Athena is sorely missed), and Grecian Corner seems to fit that same model. The meat in their gyro is plain and even a bit dry, though thankfully not to the same degree as many of their competitors. They certainly do load the bread down with plenty of peppers, tomatoes, and such, so that helps offset the boring flavor of the meat. The accompanying fries were standard variety: frozen crinkle cut taters, browned a little more than I'd prefer. There's a surprising amount of seating in what looks like a small diner from the exterior, and it seems both clean and well staffed. Shame the fare they offer isn't more memorable. It also seems a bit pricey to me, especially for mediocre food. 3.25 stars if I could go fractional with my rating.

Yelp
Grecian Corner is the perfect spot whenever I'm craving Greek food. Food is always delicious, fresh, and quick! I always get the Combination Platter, which has a variety of 1 chicken skewer, gyro, spanakopita, and Greek salad (.50 cent extra but worth it). The chicken skewer is moist and has a nice, slight char on the outside. I don't know what they put in their gyro but it's SO GOOD! 5/5, I highly recommend. I love their spanakopita and the size is huge; lots of spinach and feta filling. I highly recommend this spot!

Yelp
This remains one of my go to spots for Greek food in the WS area, a city with a wealth of Greek choices, and it has been that way for many, many years. Beginning in the early 1900's a steady flow of Greek immigrants came into the Triad area, from Burlington to Winston Salem, in particular. Many of those immigrants worked initially in the restaurant area. Many eventually opened their own restaurants. and gradually added more and more traditional Greek dishes. This place opened in 1970. and my first visit here was in 1989. The menu here is broad- offering several soup and salad choices, a few appetizers (Greek) and otherwise), Greek Specialty platters and sandwiches, pasta dishes, hamburgers, hot dogs. and even pizza. I have over the years tried a great many dishes, and have liked the vast majority of them. The Chicken Souvlaki (sandwich or platter with Greek salad) is my favorite and is not topped by any version I've tried in this area, and only one is in the same league. The chicken chunks are well marinated and well grilled on skewers. The salad is very nice when doused with their house made Greek dressing. I can recommend the hot dog, burger, Spaghetti with meat sauce, and all the sandwiches are good. The only dishes I can not recommend are the Veal Parmesan (meat has no texture, very mushy, little flavor) and the Gyro. When I first ate the Gyro the meat was in chunks, was a medium brown in color, and had flavor and some tenderness - posted a close up picture on Yelp years ago. Now the meat is cut in rectangular slices, is black in color, and is tough and tasteless The service here is generally good, though it can be a bit hectic at the peak hours.

Yelp
I brought my class of adults with special needs today and we thoroughly enjoyed every moment we had at Grecian Corner. The food was so comforting; our waitress, Debbie, was ultra attentive and kind in every way and we all enjoyed the beautiful, clean setting, including serene paintings of Greece and comfortable seating. I had the flavorful chicken souvlaki and Greek lemon/rice/chicken soup, which fed my soul. Thank you for being extraordinarily welcoming, with a wide variety of delicious, fun food!!! Here are some comments from my students: I love that you have Italian food, fries and Pepsi. The food was delightfully delicious. Wow. I love their pizza and the wonderful service, some of the best service we've had, some other places aren't like this.

Yelp
I love Grecian Corner! My family and I have been enjoying the delicious food for over 42 -years. The food is fresh, the service is excellent, and it is so family friendly. Our kids and grand-darlings love it and have grown =up eating there. Everyone loves the souvlaki, Greek chicken and rice soup, pizza, hot dogs, and spaghetti! Grecian Corner offers something for everyone. I cannot say enough about the owner, Angelo Ballas, and his staff. All of the cooks, servers, and Angelo, himself have become like family to us. We have watched each others' children grow-up , celebrated births, graduations, birthdays and weddings and mourned deaths and sicknesses together. If you are looking for great Greek food in a friendly, welcoming place, give Grecian corner your business. I love dinning local!!

Yelp
When I moved here I was looking for a place to get a really good chicken parmesan sub. I found this place right near the hospital where I work and decided to try it out. I've never eaten here. I only got food to go but the food is always ready as soon as I ride them, the people are always friendly with a big smile on their face. The sub is the only one I've had here so I can't speak to anything else on the menu but the chicken probably has. Sub is really good. I love the taste of the sauce, just the right amount of cheese, and the fries are good though not the best in town. If you're looking for some good Greek food, I said give this place a try.

Yelp
Two words. Feta Fries. This place is much bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside, so there's plenty of space for a big group. It is definitely on the casual side but the food is fantastic. I highly recommend the Feta Fries, they were definitely my favorite part but the Gyro sandwich was very good too and everything was super reasonably priced. My group also ordered Loukoumades, which I tried some of but I'm not a huge honey fan so a small dose is really all I need. They were quite tasty and easy to split. Overall, this place is a gem, especially if you are in need of something quick, cheap, and delicious.

Yelp
A landmark Restraunt with awesome American Greek food . The food is always great and I usually have the Ruben . The The service is counter order and the ambience is diner style . I recommend for a nice cafe and great food

Yelp
Why five stars? Because: 1. I said so 2. Everything is consistently wonderful from staff, hours, food, pricing, management. This place is a well oiled machine. 3. Family owned for over 50 years? Shop local and all that jazz. 4. When the same employees work there since the 90s ... you know the owners rock. So if ownership rock = staff will rock also. And I haven't mentioned the food... you know how you find a love of a particular food item? Mine is the love of Greek Slovakia chicken. Then you know you find that one place that does it Just Right and you never quiet find that anywhere else? Yeah - that's this place. Never have I ever.... Found better chicken souvlaki. From NY to FL (and i literally went to a Greek food area in FL) ... no one outdoes this place.

Yelp
Amazing affordable Greek food!!! I can't recommend this place enough!! Service was awesome too!!
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent food and customer service every time we go. Last night we enjoyed the chicken slouvaki platter and the pork souvlaki sandwich. Both were fresh, tasty, and generous portions. Food is also still very good and holds up well as take out.

Yelp
I can't believe I didn't go in this place before. The food is fresh and really good. From the street, the restaurant is not too inviting but it's worth going in. Inside it's small and cozy. They must sale a lot to the Hospital next door. The service was efficient and courteous. I recommend the place when you want to have Greek food
google avatar

Linda L.

Yelp
Amazing food. The staff is so helpful and the food super. Small place so get there early for lunch but so worth it .
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
It was delicious! The food was great and super affordable. I had lamb, because how often do you get to eat that? It's a Greek restaurant thing mostly, and they did it *perfectly*. The gyro platter is definitely a great choice (it comes with a Greek salad and a Greek dressing, which is basically Italian).
google avatar

Raymond S.

Yelp
Three because the gyro was good, my coworker said the spaghetti was awesome. The Greek salad was lacking to say the least. No beets or pepperchini , on olive and shredded lettuce. Big, big negative, plastic ware and plastic basket/plates.
google avatar

Jillian S.

Yelp
Wow, amazing Greek food! I wish I had taken a picture. They have delicious and perfectly cooked chicken souvlaki skewers with tzatziki sauce and pita bread. I attended a cookout and that's what they served. By the time I got my phone to take a picture, they were all eaten. We all really enjoyed them and I heard Grecian Corner is popular with staff at Baptist Medical Center. If Grecian corner was located closer to us we would definitely want to order from here more often. Dine in, order online, or call for takeout. Their website is convenient and easy to read. They offer numerous options that are reasonably priced. Overall, we enjoy the food here and recommend it to others!

Yelp
We were looking for something yummy and low-key this past Friday. We found it here at the Grecian Corner:) Parking: We were surprised about parking and how much availability there was... It was a little packed in front of the building, but they have designated parking for Grecian corner customers only in the parking lot beside the building Atmosphere: I do not have a greek grandmother, but I felt like I did walking in here... Very casual yet nice ambiance. I love the different rooms. It seems like it was a house turned into a restaurant. I wanted everything on the menu based on how it smelled in there. Food: While they have many offerings, I'm going to suggest the Grecian part of the menu. It's a small section at the top on the back of the menu. We enjoyed their interpretation of mousaka. It had a nice bolognes sauce on top. Not used to that normally, but it was delicious. It made us decide to want to comeback to try the pasta they offer. It was really overcooked at the bottom... Not enough to bring a star down for me because everything as a whole was really good besides that. We had a hard time deciding between the salad that came with the spanikopita the soup. We were very glad we chose the salad because it was really delicious. The dressing seems to be made in-house, and it was great! I do want to mention the bread that is served with the mousaka I would definitely need that on our next visit.. Something so simple, but it was toasted to perfection and had just the right amount of garlic. We had a beer local to Greece and it complimented the meal nicely. Customer service: It was busy, but we still were greeted in plenty of time and seated in a timely fashion. Our waiter was very nice and efficient. All of the other staff seem to help each other out as well. We definitely will be back here in the near future... the pasta and the soup is next on our list of things to try

Yelp
The menu offers an array of various items, but I chose the spanakopita and sweet potato fries. The spanakopita was flavorful and fresh. As for the fries, they lacked some flavor and seemed a bit thin therefore very crunchy without any density. The food was alright, but nothing special.

Carlos B.

Yelp
Hands down best restaurant in town. The Greek soup. Some long name that began with a A. Just get it and get one of the salads. Everything is super fresh.

Yelp
I grew up with a super authentic (first generation) Greek restaurant down the road. In my now 15 years of adulthood since I moved away I have never found a place any where as near as good. UNTIL NOW! Me, my brother and my husband got the combination platter. We all agreed the whole thing was amazing! They gyro meat was a little unconventional as it was a big slice rather shavings. But still very good and crispy. The chicken skewer was seasoned to perfection (and its generally not my favorite.) But the star was the spanakopita (spinach pie) again the presentation was different but best tasting I have ever had. And the salad dressing was the PERFECT Greek dressing. I need to ask if I can buy a bottle! My mom got the Mousaka. Personally I have never liked this meal (no matter where) but it is her favorite and she said it was on point. The only disappointment is ironically we were pointed to this spot because of the baklava, which was supposed to be out of this world. But we found it to be dry and not very flavorful. But again baklava is not my favorite so I am by no means a connoisseur. Also the prices are incredible for the amount of food you get. 4 plates, 4 desserts, 4 sodas and a bottle of wine 75$ THIS PLACE IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST TRY!!!!!!!

Luke L.

Yelp
Love the food, service is phenomenal. Been eating here ever since I was a kid. Seriously, one of my favorites in Winston-Salem!!
google avatar

Myra U.

Yelp
Great food and service, just wished they didn't use disposables and foam for utensils and all. All else is great!

She C.

Yelp
I came in close to closing and they still took my order. I appreciate their service and the way that the took care of me. The food is delicious and flavorful. I like the chicken solvaki with tzikiki sauce.
google avatar

Katelyn F.

Yelp
Everything I have tried here is excellent! I can't believe I lived and worked half a mile from here and didn't know about it until now. The food portions are insane and there is always enough for at least two people or leftovers. The Greek salad is perfect! If you haven't tried them, you are missing out! It looks small from the outside but there is plenty of seating in the dining room. There is a kids menu and a menu with sandwiches and hamburgers for people who aren't a fan of Greek food. There really is something for everyone here!

Maddie L.

Yelp
The best Greek food in Winston! They have all of the classics like souvlaki, Greek salads, and even baklava. Everything is consistently delicious. I want to try more from their menu but I keep going back to my favorites!
google avatar

Andrew V.

Yelp
Within walking distance Very much authentic greek cuisine Place is very busy Be prepared for satisfaction

Juniper J.

Yelp
Service was good. Ordered a gyro and the meat was super dry and some of the pieces really dark in color. Several others ordered the same thing and they also had very dry meat. We had to add tzatziki sauce to get it down without choking.
google avatar

Nikki M.

Yelp
I can't believe I've never written a review for this place. I've been coming here since I was a girl. My mom worked at Baptist and she'd order from here to take food to work. That's when I was introduced to souvlaki on a stick, bricks of gyro meat, triangles of spanakopita stuffed with spinach and bits of feta and the sweetest iced tea on this side of I-40. My favorite thing to get is the gyro on the hot dog bun. I dont eat the bun, because it gets mushy and inedible, but the seared gyro chunks with its crispy edges, fresh chopped onion, green pepper, tomato and yogurt sauce and PACKED into that little 5-inch bun and wrapped like a swaddled baby. It's worth all $4. I have not been able to tear myself away from the meat long enough to try the pastas or the hamburgers on the menu. One day, maybe. But not soon.

Charles D.

Yelp
A great restaurant with great people. Our favorites are the chicken souvlaki and the gyro plate. SOmeone from my family is there at least 3 days per week.
google avatar

Beth M.

Yelp
Excellent food!!!!! Great service. The atmosphere is small diner. But the service is great and the food is amazing so it all works out.
google avatar

Kiesha W.

Yelp
The spaghetti, lasagna, Greek salad, and gyro were very good. They also had a lot of different cheesecakes that looked delicious! I highly recommend this place. The salad dressings are homemade and delicious!
google avatar

Joel R.

Yelp
This place has the best Gyros I've had in Winston-Salem and Greensboro. They are absolutely stuffed and one will fill you up. The Tzaziki sauce is excellent. Most everything I've tried on the menu is very good. The cheesy bacon fries are also highly recommended!

Kelly H.

Yelp
Great restaurant. We came twice over Christmas and brought a young man from Greece with us. He said the restaurant was wonderful and reminded him of home.

Priti D.

Yelp
Being from New York I was skeptical But the falafel was sooo good ( better than mamouns in nyc) The best tzatziki I have ever had My husband said the souvlaki was just like what we eat in ny Greek salad was ok , the dressing was good though Guess I found my take out Greek place in Winston!
google avatar

Omi K.

Yelp
The hummus and spanakopita were okay, however the pasta was so over cooked the texture of the pasta felt like it was canned. The "garlic bread" was toasted bread with garlic powder dusted on top of it. All the plates were pater or styrofoam plates, don't recommend if you're expecting a true restaurant experience.

Yelp
First time at Grecian Corner was a hit! Can't believe I hadn't been here before now. The staff was very friendly, polite and attentive. Huge portions at a great price! Decided to try the Loukomades for dessert and wow! Fried Greek donuts with honey and nuts... TRY THESE!!!
