If Greek International Food Market had not participated in that voucher deal, I would still have no idea that this place existed and was so convenient!
It is located on the corner of Washington Street and Grove Street in West Roxbury, and has a nice sized parking lot in the back, accessible from either street. They used the empty area out front to make a welcoming green space set up with a bench and a picnic table.
Once you enter, the market is before you and to the left, while the register sits at the counter to your right, and the prepared foods counter stands just beyond.
My voucher could only be redeemed for their prepared foods and desserts, so most of my time was spent loitering there, sampling this dip and that. But a walk around the market revealed that they were a source of the thick pita I so love grilled fresh and served soft and tender. $3.99 for a bag of 10 fat discs of Kontos Pita in their freezer. I'm going to have to bring some home with me some day.
On this visit, what made the trip home with me were: Pasitsio (ground beef, lasagna, bechamel, spices, olive oil) $5.99 per piece, Spinach & Feta Pie $4.49 per piece, Veggie, Spinach & Feta Pie $4.99 per piece, Galaktoboureko (filo sheets, cream of wheat, honey, butter, milk, eggs, sugar, lemon zest) $2.99 per piece, and a bag of Home-Made Pita Chips $2.99.
The pita chips were good. The Galaktoboureko not overly sweet. I preferred the veggie pie to the Spinach Feta (too much feta for me). The Pasitsio generous and tasty.
A new offering of theirs is self serve soft serve yogurt. They had hoped to make it special, by using some of their own homemade yogurt as an ingredient, but it was sadly too thick. But still, they offer the only soft serve yogurt in the area, so that still counts for something!
