6 Halal-Friendly Restaurants in Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Triangle | Eater Carolinas

"Pittsboro’s Greek Kouzina is both halal and alcohol-free, and is open seven days a week. Perfect for a more casual iftar, the menu features items like shish kebab platters, Greek-style burgers, and a number of pita sandwiches. Classic sides like hummus, dolma, tzatziki, falafel, and more are also available, and the restaurant is happy to put together larger platters for at home dining with friends and family." - Matt Lardie

Ordered Pastichio Lasagna for the first time & it was perfectly layered, baked, and portioned. Also got the Veggie Platter bc each item is so deliciously fresh and seasoned. Gyros are always very good too. A favorite restaurant of our out-of-town guests. Spotlessly clean dining area but takeout seems preferred by most customers.

The restaurant was clean. The bathroom was completely out of tissue and paper towels and I had call my husband for someone to bring me some 😳. The atmosphere was pretty bland like the food. No music playing, just simple and quiet. The steak n cheese pita was very bland as well. It was hot but not alot of flavor. There was a ton of lettuce but just a lil bit of meat. 🤔 I couldn't taste the cheese at all. Overall, I would suggest to play some background music to break up the talking in the back and keep the restrooms full with appropriate supplies. There was a 100 on the sanitary rating and the employee was friendly.

We were greeted by Greek music as we walked through the door. On the walls were photos of columns…. The service was pleasant and food was quickly delivered to the table. I ordered gyro meal with greek side salad (photo below). Serving size was very good. I just wish the lamb had more seasoning… it was a little bland. My wife had grilled chicken gyro and really enjoyed it. But overall I would go back for another try.

I loved my lunch. Got the platter with all the amazing sides & grilled chicken. Delicious. This is a counter service. So after placing our order at the counter we found a table and they brought our food to the table. I can see they do a lot of takeout service. Will definitely be back!

I was here on a Weds just before the lunch rush. I had the lamb gyro, which is tagged as a specialty of the house. It was a perfectly good gyro. The pligouri (bulgur pilaf) was tastier than I expected and very filling. The Greek coffee is authentic, to my tourist taste buds anyway. Overall the menu is pretty Americanized, but there are still Greek dishes to be found. The dining room was clean but bare-bones. Only one AC outlet to plug a laptop into. Staff was nice and my food arrived quickly.

Ate supper here as we had other business in the area. We were pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. In particular, all three meats we tried (chicken, gyro, and lamb/beef kebab) were excellent - soft, succulent, and with a delicious authentic grilled taste, which is often surprisingly lacking in the meat from other Mediterrenean places. The sides didn't disappoint either; the basmati rice was flavourful and cooked properly (not hard, grainy, or old), the tazatziki was creamy but properly flavoured so there was a nice tangy balance, and the tabbouleh, not usually my favourite, blew my mind (crunchy, fresh, and a perfect foil to the rice in texture and taste). To round it all off, I had an excellent cup of hot tea, and was thrilled to find it was made properly with boiling water and an Ahmad Cardamom teabag, which is top-tier and very different to weak cheap teabags usually available. Service was pleasant and attentive but unobtrusive. Music was a bit too loud for my liking, but from reading other reviews, clearly this is a matter of personal taste and one can't please everyone. It didn't matter much, though, because the food was so good. Thank you to all concerned for the care you take.

Google
Have tried both the skewer platter and the gyro platter. The salads were fresh and the meats were delicious. We definitely likes the food. Counter service only.

Google
Great pita, lamb was juicy, ziti was the best I’ve had in the triangle area! A bit cold for me inside and music slightly loud but I’ll be back for sure! Plate looks basic but the flavor is above and beyond most places in the area

Yelp
A dependable go-to for me! I ordered the Zorba Platter with 2 skewers (lamb and gyro). Everything was delicious, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. I always order extra tabouli and a piece of pistachio baklava :) I also suggest trying their pineapple lemon iced tea!

Yelp
Some of the best food I've had in a hot minute and service was awesome!! Finished off lunch with a Greek coffee and a pistachio baklava. Totally recommend!

Yelp
On our way to Charlotte on a work trip and decided to stop for a quick bite before hitting the road and glad that we did! Plenty of parking, small space but still feels spacious enough. The menu is straightforward, you have your sandwiches and your platters! I'm a sandwiches gal and opted for the Chicken Shwarma Pita Combo and it was so satisfying. There was a good amount of chicken, veggies, and sauce, very well balanced and filling. I should've asked for some extra hot sauce or something because I felt like it was missing - that would've just taken the dish to a whole another level! All good though, this gives greek fast food vibes which I love and I'm here for. Where are these in Texas!?

Yelp
My parents and I came here for dinner on a Sunday evening. Our server was friendly and accommodating and the food came out relatively fast. We each ordered the Kouzina platter, which came with a meat skewer, Greek salad, grape leaves, hummus, pita, and cucumber dressing. The chicken was fine, not the best I've had, and it difficult to get it off the skewer. The salad and grape leaves were also just fine, nothing spectacular in my opinion. However, the hummus and pita were amazing and for sure the best part of the meal. The pita bread was super pillowy soft and the hummus tasted authentic, flavorful, and delicious. I would come back for the hummus and pita alone!

Yelp
The pitas here are so light and fluffy! My son and I got the chicken pita, and he keeps asking when we can come back for another one. It seriously was so good! The fries are also delish!

Yelp
So happy this place opened!! We've been several times - the falafal is very, very good. We've also had the chicken skewers - The guys are honest as well. They messed up a takeout order of ours and remembered we called and made it up to us on our next visit. Smaller dining room so I don't think a large group with small kids might not do well - but there is outside seating. I highly recommend!

Yelp
My Boo and I visited this location for lunch. I've seen this location for years but never stopped to check it out. I'm glad that we decided to visit this spot. I ordered the Rice Platter Single Skewer. The order came with a side of rice, one pita, tabouli, tzatziki sauce and one grilled chicken skewer. It was my first time trying tabouli. I was very pleased with my lunch choice. The location was smaller than I expected, however the restaurant was clean and organized. The staff was very friendly and checked on us multiple times during our visit.

Yelp
Enjoyed a gyro today from Greek Kouzina. I love a tasty gyro. The pita was fresh as well as all the ingredients. The gyro was filled nicely with meat, sauce and lettuce and tomato. The place was clean and the staff was helpful and friendly.

Tracy B.

Yelp
The food was very good. I had the flalafel which was tender and delicious. My husband had the gyro and was very impressed. Good value for money. Quick service and the eat in dining room was bright and spacious. Friendly service and great options on the menu. Will definitely come back.

Marcus A.

Yelp
If I could give one star I would. This place is horrible. Their food safety protocols are almost non-existent, and they skirt the health inspector when he comes. Also, the food is way too overpriced for what it is and what this "restaurant" is: a glorified microwave.

Yelp
Stopped here to grab a bit of lunch with some friends. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. We took a moment to look over the menu and decided the double kabob Rice plate the the meal for me! I got two chicken kabobs, tzatziki sauce, French fries, pita, and some rice. You get a decent amount of food for the price! My only negative was that the kabobs, while perfectly cooked in some spots, was overcooked and rubbery in other spots. The tzatziki was amazing! Thinly shredded cucumber in the sauce is my favorite was to prepare it and that's just what they did here. Don't forget the baklava you can order while dining here as well! I didn't grab any but I definitely regret that I didn't! If you're looking for some Greek food while in Pittsboro, this might be the stop for you!

Yelp
Best baklava in around! Good service and friendly staff, as well as good location with parking. The menu has a good variety of middle Eastern food to try. J. Jerome

Yelp
If you visit this place,CHECK YOUR RECEIPT!!! They are now charging a 3% "Admin Fee". In addition, they charge 3% if you use a credit or debit card. We recently went in and paid cash ....yup a 3% admin fee was added! When I challenged them, they said "everyone is paying it". Bad answer. This is purely a case of corporate greed. If we don't stand up to this it will continue and just get worse.

Yelp
Decided to stop by Greek Kouzina after passing by it the last time I was in Pitsboro. So glad that I stopped as the staff were nice and the food was fresh, good, and authentic! I was warmly greeted and given time to check out the menu. I decided to get the chicken swharma wrap minus the tomatoes and add extra onions. The wrap came out pipping hot and while driving back to Raleigh I let it cool down and I ate it so quickly. I literally blinked and it was gone. The chicken had a nice kick and punch of flavor. The pita was warm and soft and the tzakihi was creamy and cool. Overall it was delicious and I will be back the next time I am in the area!

Yelp
Got takeout today since my grandma is in the hospice in the same area of Chatham Park. Really clean place, quick service, prices didn't seem crazy but definitely wasn't cheap. As to the food: 2. Steak kabob -- very nice char and very tender meat, though needed some salt; 2. Hummus -- very good, probably my favorite thing; 3. Tabbouli -- not dry and tasty enough, 4. Tzatziki -- very good and you get a lot in the veggie sampler, 5. Greek salad -- pretty anemic, only one olive and no pepperoncini at all, definitely the worst part of the meal, 6. Pitas -- toasted after cut into pieces, very good but couldn't make a sandwich with them And 7. Pistachio baklava-- very very dry, much worse than Med Deli's Overall I would probably return for another skewer or some hummus if I'm stuck in the area but I'm not going out of my way for it. Everything I got there is at Med Deli too and it's equidistant so yeah, sorry.

Yelp
Awesome delicious food. Excellent. Customer service. Open-air seating area. Very clean. Prices are very affordable. The freshness of the food is definitely constant. I have tried many different menu items and have enjoyed all of them. I will definitely recommend Greek Kouzina to friends.

Yelp
Always a great meal. My problem, I forget to take the pictures sooner. After I start devouring the meal because it is so good. Next time I try to do better.

Yelp
Best Greek place! Food is always good, and service is great! The sliced Greek pita wrap (gyro) is my go-to with a side of rice. The rice has amazing flavor and the pistachio baklava is my all-time favorite!

Yelp
My friend and I were craving Greek food so we decided to check out Greek Kouzina. It is located right outside of downtown Pittsboro in a business plaza. We called ahead to place our takeout order and we were able to pick it up as soon as we got there. I ordered the Greek lamb pita and she got the Greek platter. We were able to eat outside at a picnic table around the building. I loved my pita and can't wait to come back to try some if there other menu items.

Yelp
I was coming all the way from Chapel hill to Pittsboro for the UNC clinic. But this place got my attention. It's so good!!! Everything is fresh and clean! Own by ligit Mediterranean owners serving ligit food! Don't know when it's my next visit but I will keep thi in mind!
google avatar

Karen A.

Yelp
Food is okay, bland at best. Portions are unpredictable. Expensive for what you get. Staff is less than friendly and are unable to answer questions about menu items. Tried them twice, won't be back.

Yelp
Stopped for lunch. Wife liked her chicken pita a lot. I had the chicken shawarma. High quality but the flavor was Good not great for me personally I'm used to different style chicken spices. Fries were tasty and very nice to have salad as a side option.

Ruri M.

Yelp
We came here to try it for the first time, for Sunday lunch on March 6, 2022. We love Mediterranean cuisine. However, I was scared by other Yelpers' 1star bad reviews... but I wanted to give them a chance anyway :) Guess what :D I'm glad I did! The so called "notorious unfriendly mean guy" was just so kind and helpful. Inside the restaurant was packed with dine-in guests. The place was busy with both dine in / take out customers. I think some people might felt the guy in the other reviews was mean but it's because his first language is not English. We all should to be kind each other :) Anyway, all the food was fantastic and the kitchen guys were extremely polite, friendly and nice :) Please don't get scared by negative reviews. They are running an honest business and they deserve for 5 stars. We will definitely go back for many more times to try other fascinating menu items

Yelp
Hi I normally give a harsher review when it comes to the stars!. I will give still a real review and not favorite the place. (I'm not paid I'm a real customer). 1) it's location is Great! Parking is easy and the inside is clean and beautiful. 2) the customer service is amazing from the moment you go in! The Latina that works there is amazing and if the owner sees this please spoil her to keep her and pay her very well!. Customer service like that will bring people back right away. 3) ordering and paying is easy the pricing I believe is reasonable for the food and service and it's a great place for dates and take out. 4) the restaurant could use a little reorganization when it comes to seating, although I do know it's limited and it's not a huge space I still feel if you organize the seating and move it around it'll be a lot better!. Last the food...(if I offend anybody I'm sorry but as a former chef and restaurant worker and manager I give honest reviews specially on food!) The food took no longer then 15 minutes, the presentation is actually 6/10! So that's not bad at all given it's not as easy to plate this kind of food as easily as others so I love it. The gyro was delicious but I do feel the meat was a bit soggy and too wet and tasted like it was steamed. But it was still delicious given the toppings helped it a lot, the Sauce was delicious and I would just change that the meat for the mixed gyro was actually grilled more little less soggy. The pita was soft warm and delicious, I did not know if it's freshly made as ordered? I used to have a kebab and gyro shop and I used to make pitas fresh as ordered. Regardless I enjoyed this food, the chicken pita was 7/10 delicious and the chicken want dry or burnt it was just right and delicious but the only big complaint I have is that the fries get seasoned better since mine were all on like a could le of fried and it was overwhelming. Actually taking the time to evenly season them goes a long way. Now I'm not comparing this spot to fancy restaurants as I would have to rate it at 2 stars barely. This spot is overall a perfect 5 star and specially cause of the great service from the lady she's Venezuelan and she is awesome!. Very helpful and pays attention!. To me at small restaurants things like customer service and cleanliness and fast food food is going a very long way. This is only my second time going I do change ratings if I feel it has gotten worst or better. If you wanted to try Greek food definitely go! It's totally worth it I recommend this 10/10 times!.

Yelp
Nice casual restaurant. Friendly staff and pretty quick service. But I wasn't impressed with the food. It not bad but average. The Chicken Shawarma pita was kinda bland, not a lot lot of garlic sauce and smaller than most I've had.

Yelp
Hands down one of my favorite places to eat in Pittsboro. Great & quick service, & great food!

Yelp
I was sitting here eating my food from Greek Kouzina thinking, "OMG this is SO GOOD! And I thought, you know what? I should tell them that. And then I thought, NO. I should tell OTHER PEOPLE. Because that's what you do for a business that does things right. So here's my "thanks for the great food" to Greek Kouzina in Pittsboro. Okay. My husband died in March following a too short fight with cancer, and lots of family and friends who didn't live close by wanted to help us out with the day to day while we figured out life 2.0, and many gave us DoorDash gift cards do meal planning and prepping was one less thing on our list of daily to-dos. And since this is Pittsboro, there aren't exactly a large number of restaurants that do Door Dash. So our choices were somewhat limited. And Greek Kouzina was in our rotation. But let me tell you...when I was in the mood for food that felt like it didn't come from a restaurant, that felt like it was nourishing my body instead of clogging up my arteries, that tasted fresh and delicious, then Greek Kouzina is what I craved. And still do. The chicken kabobs are amazing. The tzatziki sauce is superb. The ingredients taste fresh and well-prepared. My only complaint? And this complaint isn't specific to Greek Kouzina, by any stretch. My only complaint is that there are never enough olives. Never. I keep my own jar on-hand and top up the olive count in the Green Salad. But as I said, that applies to pretty much every restaurant who does a Greek salad. But I digress. What I want to tell you is to order from Greek Kouzina. Or go pick it up. Or whatever. It's good food. And it's good to support local businesses. But seriously, good food.

Manish J.

Yelp
Delicious kabobs. Shrimp, chix. Lamb. Gyro. Tremendous. Was not a huge fan of the steak. Pita + dolma + hummus all top notch. Baklava on point. Shout out to John for great service and attitude.
google avatar

Peter I.

Yelp
Excellent Greek! Try it! Very reasonable price too! Great service. Nice people. Our goto place in Pittsboro.

Crisci M.

Yelp
Delicious food. Like being in a NY Greek diner. I am gluten free. The gentleman who took our order let me know that the gyro has gluten, which I didn't know. I switched to the beef kabob and it was delicious. My husband got the gyro and loved it. Even the gluten free pita had a good flavor and held together nicely. What a great find in an unexpected place.

Sysan C.

Yelp
Overpriced dried meat pita. Asked for extra tzatziki sauce to try to lubricate the meat and was charged 75 cents for a small container. Pita bread the best part of the experience- fresh, flavorful and warm. Ate in. We were the only guests at 12:15 on a Wednesday. A few take out orders came in. When we left after about 45 minutes there were 5 other diners there. Don't plan to go back.

Joe S.

Yelp
The falafels never disappoint. Neither do their dolmas. The baklava should be illegal as they are habit-forming.
google avatar

Angela B.

Yelp
Good consistent food choice in the area for lunch or dinner. Hope you give them a try!

Todd M.

Yelp
We tried Greek Kouzina's curbside service while camping at Jordan Lake. With the exception of the tzatziki and stuffed grape leaves, which were very good, the rest of our meal was mediocre. The chicken and steak kebabs were dry from being overcooked while the lamb kebab was, somewhat surprisingly, not very moist or flavorful. Falafel was dry and didn't seem like it had recently been cooked. When we ordered for curbside pickup, we provided payment information over the phone. The employee that took our order clearly not only expected a tip, but was apparently not satisfied with the the tip we specified so he gave himself additional money at our expense. Any positive attributes of Greek Kouzina were overshadowed by this dishonesty. We'll never go back.

Darcy M.

Yelp
First, I need to start off by saying my child is a very picky eater, but wanted to try Greek Kouzina for lunch at school. I was completely shocked when my child asked me to order Greek Kouzina for lunch again, the following week. My child then started asking for dinner from Greek Kouzina, and we've regulars ever since. The food is fresh, the flavors are wonderful, the restaurant is inviting,, and the owner and his family is absolutely beautiful- inside and out. They truly care about their customers and it was a pleasure speaking with the owner's wife, while I waited for our order. Greek Kouzina is a great addition to the Chatham Park area of Pittsboro.
google avatar

Dave P.

Yelp
The chicken kabobs were great! All of our food was really good. Everything was cooked perfectly. Chicken was juicy and flavorful. Thanks for dinner.

Karina P.

Yelp
Great food and amazing customer service! Food is always hot and prepared perfectly. Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Lane G.

Yelp
This place was a small in whole in the wall that we stopped by. They were so nice. They said they were "almost out of rice" so they gave us a whole plate of fries even though they gave plenty of rice! They also gave us gf pita bread after we forgot to ask for it. My ONLY disappointment was the amount of hummus that was given. Everything else was perfect!
google avatar

Kristin U.

Yelp
Decent falafel and lamb gyro. To go service pretty quick. So cool to have a Greek food option in Pittsboro.
google avatar

Joy C.

Yelp
Spouse loves the gyro but I always go for the kabob rice platter - both steak and chicken are tender and well-seasoned but not overly so. All the sides are freshly made and delicious. We both love the pistachio baklava.
google avatar

Krista M.

Yelp
Greek Kouzina is the best! The owners are so nice and the food is great. I think I have had everything. Falafel Pita to go, is my go-to.
google avatar

Karen R.

Yelp
We love the Greek food here. We were long time customers of their East St, Pittsboro location. They have now relocated to a brand new place in Pittsboro Mosaic area. The owner has always been very friendly to us. We love the Greek platter with a kabob stick. Also, the chicken pita with a side of Greek salad is very good. Always great food and friendly service.
google avatar

Sharon T.

Yelp
This place is awesome the food is really great fresh and yummy. I live in Durham but work in Pittsboro here and there catering so I stopped by on my way out town. do not drive past this place without stopping and getting some of the fresh food it look like it's a family-owned business

Vicki D.

Yelp
Love this place!!! The food is delicious and fresh! We take out from here several times a month.

Lynn A.

Yelp
This place is outrageously expensive. Charged $75 for 4.5 meals. Felt ripped off and taken advantage of. The Gyros were small too. There are many great Mediterranean restaurants in the area and don't overcharge you. There's a new one opening up a stones throw from them so wait for that. Stay away!!

Kathryn G.

Yelp
I'm convinced that all these people with the outstanding reviews have never had real Greek food. I had such high hopes for this place but was sadly disappointed. I moved here from FL where we had "The Great Greek" restaurant which is amazing! I ordered the Greek salad and the lamb skewer which I thought would be a real cut of lamb and it was like ground meat formed into a skewer. The dressing for the salad was sad. Just vinegar. And the minuscule amount of feta cheese was a joke. This place is not worth the price.

Bednarek K.

Yelp
We eat here almost weekly, it's our go to because our 2 kids like the kids skewer option so we are thrilled that we can eat semi healthy for take out! The food is alway prepared on time and they are great at communicating if there is a delay, they've even called us in the past to clarify a pickup order.

Jefe B.

Yelp
I absolutely love their food, except for the fries. When they first opened I raved that they had the best around. Fast forward a few months and now the fries are constantly overcooked and/or greasy (I typically or on Sundays, so it may be a different cook). I really wish they'd fix that. I can barely get through half a serving before decided to throw them away.

Michael D.

Yelp
Prices are high for what you get. Gyro was bland, could barely taste the tzatziki sauce. Lamb seemed unseasoned.
