Green Apple Books

This 2 story bookstore is such a cool place. It has the same vibe as a mom and pop shop, but an inventory that can compete against big behemoth book chains. I was able to find several books that I haven't been able to find at any bookstores in my area. I will definitely make this a regular stop when visiting the city

Ugh, I was transfixed by just being in this sacred space. The bookstore didn’t look big at first sight but traverse the stairs and series of backdoors and you will be treated into a treasure trove. Many helpful staff recommendations and thematic bookshelves. Amazing collection of used books and book related stuffs. It is definitely up there in my favourite bookstores of San Francisco.

I love a good independent bookstore and Green Apple is certainly a cornerstone in San Francisco. The books are well priced and I love the general selection and layout of available books. Unfortunately, I wish the friendliness of the staff was better. Most of the folks that work here are bordering on curt to quite rude. They aren't very welcoming and it almost feels pretentious. I suppose that doesn't really affect the sales or anything so it probably won't change but don't come here expecting to have any help from staff.

What a fantastic bookstore! This place has it all. New books, used books, recommended books from staff, bestsellers and indie publishers. The store feels like a maze and every part of the store has something interesting to look at and discover. My daughter spent 30 minutes looking at the kids book section and brought back a Nancy Drew book from the 60's for $4. I found a few books as well. It can be a little crowded and there are stairs. You aren't allowed to bring bags inside and will have to check them at the front desk.

This bookstore felt never-ending! I loved getting lost in while looking at all the books. Most of the staff was very friendly and they had a great selection of books. I will say I was a little confused with how things were priced as some books were not marked clearly and the staff that was shelving books right next to me and my mom didn't answer our questions on how the books were priced. We did finally figure it out (we think) but that was a little bit of a bummer. HOWEVER, the staff at the check out counter and stocking on the main floor were incredibly kind.

What an amazing place to find awesome books and souvenirs. It’s a two floor bookstore, they have books on sale and in regular price. I really love this bookstore. The staff is super kind

Green Apple Books is one of the best bookstores I’ve ever visited. For someone who is easily enticed by stacks of books, this place is heaven. They’ve an eclectic collection of both new and used books. The collection is carefully curated, and while browsing the collection, one finds both well-written short reviews as well as quirky comments, which just adds to a book lover’s unbridled joy. Philosophy, science, cooking, fiction, non-fiction, history—any area you name, they have a huge collection of books in that area. While on the second floor, I came across the ‘Granny Smith’ room, which has books on philosophy, classics, history and political science. Even though it was just a room, it seemed like another bookstore in itself. I spent hours perusing the room. Their fiction collection deserves a special shout-out as well. It’s easy to find used amazing books of fiction(both new and old) here. I didn’t spend a lot of time here since I was scared I would end up adding 15-20 more books of fiction to my already picked up books. I found some solace in the fact that I would visit Green Apple again soon, and then pick those books of fiction. The checkout was smooth as well. The person at the counter and I chatted a bit about Emma Donoghue, and she was kind enough to recommend another book of hers. There are two levels at Green Apple and each level has a pretty amazing collection. The store is quite conspicuous, so you cannot miss it from the outside when you’re there. Thank you for being there Green Apple, I’ll be back again soon!

Absolute delight. Books for everyone... kids, grown ups, literature lovers, cooks, mapmakers, explorers, scientists, artist, writers, uou name it, they have it. New and used books. Sell books for cash or trade. Read their specs on selling. This place is a HOUSE OF KNOWLEDGE AND JOY. Aisles are on the narrow side for mobility aid users. Street parking challenging but doable. Close to buslines.
