These guys really want everyone to get out on the water. Green Bay Sail & Paddle is a nonprofit organization that offers opportunities to sail and kayak, no matter your level of experience or ability. They have adaptive sailing classes, kayaking classes for people with autism, sailing options designed just for women, and even camps for kids. On the weekends, the rent out kayaks and sail boats in two-hour time periods.
I got to go out on Green Bay with one of the junior sailors (he was in 11th grade, but a great sailor!) We took out a four-person catamaran, and glided through the gentle bay. I was a little nervous at first because water activities aren't really my thing, but they make everyone wear a life vest and explain everything beforehand. Once I was out on the water, I felt perfectly safe and it was a fun experience.
Pro tip: You will get wet while sailing! I don't know what I was thinking and wore long linen pants, and they were drenched by the end of my excursion. I suggest wearing shorts or bringing a waterproof poncho. Also: There are no proper restroom facilities, just a port-a-potty, so keep that in mind when planning your day.
Everyone at Green Bay Sail & Paddle were extremely kind and patient. Sailing on a catamaran was a fun way to see a different side of Green Bay!
