Yelp
So the hubs and I decided that we wanted to try this new restaurant.
It's basically Bagby Beer under new management.
It's a chill vibe to the extent that it feels like Macs with beer.
There are lots of tables to sit. But due to the rain, the tables are also limited.
They opened the place up. But did not run all heaters. It felt very cold today.
Also, today, there were a few families with children running around.
It definitely enhanced my feeling like this was Macs in disguise.
You have to queue for your food. And there is only one POS at the front for order of the beer. One at the back, which is like a station with a mixologist - it has a full bar back there in the patio area. There, they serve limited beer.
Apparently, there are usually 3 bars scattered around. But due to rain, the one in the patio was closed.
You have to order in front and queue to order. They don't take ur orders at the tables. And they also don't deliver the food to u like Bagby did. After you order, they give you a little buzzer that vibrates once your food is ready.
For starters, I ordered a Baja fish burrito with a 10 oz glass of beer- sandcastles in oceanside. The beer had an alcoholic content of 4.2%. It was quite the perfect pour and was light, and it had a full head.
My husband ordered pepperoni pizza with extra pepperoni and a 16 oz beer- modern traditions.
They pour the beers for you, and then you get the buzzer to bring back to the table of your choosing. Once the buzzer buzzes, you have to make your way back to the front of the facility and get your food. Cutlery, napkins, and sauces are all available at the front.
Also, even though it was like a fast food restaurant, it took the food very long to come. It felt like 30 min just waiting for the buzzer to ring.
That said, let's get to the food.
I'm going to say that I'm comparing it with the fish burrito i had at Bagby's before it closed. I had a great impression of the one before. This one- not as good as the one I had before.
The fish in the Baja burrito was fresh but the batter itself felt like it was falling off.
And it wasn't crispy. Also, instead of a piece of fish, it felt like fish nuggets throughout the burrito. I felt like I was getting odds and ends. I would prefer a single piece of fish in my fish burrito. Also, even though the fish was fresh, it felt like the fish was not marinated except for the batter. It tasted a little bland.
The salsa was not as good as the one I had before. It tasted like ketchup with a bit of hot sauce in it.
I have to say the chips are still pretty good.
My hubby's pizza was pretty good and slightly burnt.
We then tried the bar at the back. My hubby ordered a cadillac margarita and I ordered a vespa.
I didn't like my vespa. It was very strong. It's a martini with a lemon peel. I didn't even finish it. With just half of the martini, I was buzzed.
My hubby's cadillac margarita was not bad.
One other point to note:
There were tables that were no cleared after people left. That would affect their ability to serve more people
Bottom line:
Food is not bad.
But with prices like this- I can actually go to another pub/ restaurant and get served without having to feel like I went to a fast food restaurant and having to wait 30 min for my food which I have to go collect and precariously balance and bring back to my table.
Not too sure we will be back for a while
Hopefully, they will change the system where you have to collect your own food. And also improve a little on the food.
