I had an absolutely amazing experience at Green Gables Heritage Place! Visiting this iconic location felt like a dream come true. The atmosphere was enchanting, and it was so easy to imagine myself in the world of Anne of Green Gables. The beauty of the surroundings, the charm of the house, and the overall peaceful ambiance made it a truly unforgettable experience. Every corner of the property exudes history and warmth, and it was incredibly inspiring to walk through such a significant place. If you’re a fan of the book or just love beautiful, tranquil settings, Green Gables Heritage Place is a must-see. It was an incredibly stunning experience!

The Anne Museum and Green Gables house was a religious experience for us. The visitor center is beautifully curated with artifacts (like Lucy Maude Montgomery's typewriter and notes) and historical displays. There is a charming gift shop and cafe. When you exit the visitor center onto the site, you just go through the barn where tours and craft demonstrations are organized. The barn also hides the Green Gables house so there is a beautiful and touching reveal on the other side. We both teared up walking into Anne's world. The house was so lovingly curated with flowers and period specific props all around. The docents in the house explained everything to us but also let us browse and notice little touches like Anne's broken slate, Marilla's piles of cheese cloths, and Matthew's rocking chair. It was beautiful. We walked Lover's Lane and even spotted an Anne impersonator walking around to greet everyone. It was an absolutely incredible experience that every book lover and dreamer should have. I'd give it 10 stars if I could.

The original house is lovely, filled with period antiques, and lots of inspiration for a imaginative young writer. Lots of photos and history inside the interpretive building. The only thing missing was on the two woodland walks, which are beautiful, and that was length of trails and small signs saying how far you had come/to go. We hit a beautiful fall day with very few tourists. Consider what cruise ships are visiting when you plan your day.

Google
A lovely, peaceful place for a wander through the woods, or various exhibits. My fiancé and I spent an hour and half walking around. Nice easy walking trails, well kept and well marked. There are some stairs around the trails, in the house, and in the inside exhibit (but there are wheelchair ramps as well at the exhibit). And don't worry! The Haunted Woods aren't as scary as they sound.

If you’ve read Anne of Green Gables, this place will feel like stepping right into the book. Every detail here is meticulously recreated, and touring the green little house gives you the illusion of being transported back to that era. In addition, there are exhibits about the author, L.M. Montgomery, and the background of the story. Before leaving, make sure to check out the gift shop—it offers high-quality and uniquely charming souvenirs.

Great job show casing Lucy Maude Montgomery's life and works. Women in that era were second class citizens. She was a literary genius and more than a century later still being read world wide by millions. Make sure you walk through the haunted woods trail to her grandparents home, (now bookstore). Bookstore has 1st edition books, and her desk, run by descendents. Close by is cemetery/resting place for Lucy, her mom and grandparents. Nice park there in her honor, pays homage, is about a mile or less.... can drive to Park and bookstore/home as well. Worth spending a couple hours to see what inspired her. Shoulder season visit recommended AND late afternoon to avoid cruise ship tour bus lines, waiting. Visited 9/4/24 3pm visit, no lines.

Beautiful grounds, buildings, and trails. Those, along with the museum provide insight to the author and her love of nature. Enjoy! The gardens were full of beautiful blooms as well. in addition to touring the home and the barn, there is a small café and a well stocked gift shop. If you purchase a book, you also can put a stamp of Lucy Montgomery's signature in your book. plenty of parking and clean restrooms available as well. If you're very interested in the Green Gables sites, I would recommend purchasing the "Anne Package" online through October 20 24 if you're planning to see the musical in Charlottetown. I visited the Heritage Center, Montgomery Park, the Cavendish, Homestead, the Green Gables, post office, and drove past the cemetery and then over to the museum. I felt comfortable covering all of that area as well as walking through several of the trails such as lovers lane and the trail from Montgomery Park to the Homestead within one day. I did not feel rushed and would not think the average person would need more than 9 AM to 4 PM to cover all of these sites.

Google
What I found interesting, was old-fashioned garden and house in it, that inspires some sort of nostalgia. Facility includes 3 zones, the Green Gables House, Gardens and Trails, and Visitor Centre. The house is refurnished by old style furniture which inspires 19th century atmosphere. gardens and walking trails, such as the Haunted Woods and Lovers Lane, which are Montgomery's works, are lovely. And Visitor center is welcoming by providing different brochures and more wall pictures that shows Montgomery's biography.

Yelp
I was saving my 1000th review for something special - Finally checked off a bucket list travel item - Green Gables!! I've had this spot on my list ever since I read the Anne of Green Gables novels when I was a young girl - and even more so since watching Anne with an E!! I loved the show so much I read all the books again afterwards lol. This actual homestead belonged to cousins of Lucy Maud Montgomery - author of all the Anne books - but it was her inspiration for the Anne universe and they've done a beautiful job decorating the inside to look just how I imagined it to look from the stories lol! LM Montgomery was one of the few female Victorian writers that found huge success in her work while still alive. Her homestead and gravesite are nearby and also definitely worth a visit - especially if you're a fan! She was quite an accomplished lady and had an interesting life. A lifelong dream location visited and it was more than I could've imagined!! I got to see Anne's bedroom, walk through the Haunted Wood, and they even sell Raspberry Cordial haha!! There are several walking trails on the grounds and I wish I had time to explore more bc they were lovely. It's easy to find, prices are very reasonable, staff are all very friendly, and there's lots to see apart from the house - they have a nice museum and LM Montgomery's gravesite and actual homestead are within easy walking distance but also a very quick drive. Pro Tip: entrance to LM Montgomery's homestead is cheaper if you buy it in the combo ticket with Green Gables and you can buy both here. They also have a little cafe here selling mostly pastries and coffee. Plenty of parking and clean restrooms. This stop is a favorite with the giant tour buses so bring your patience.

Yelp
I pretty much waited my whole life to come here after reading the books. It did not disappoint. I got to have a raspberry cordial and walked down lovers lane with the love of my life, my beautiful wife. She used to be a tour guide in Nova Scotia and was excited to take me to this place where she had been before and I had never set foot. On an island that was all new to me. We spend as much time here as we wanted to the visitor center first and then coming out back to see the house where LM Montgomery spent a lot of time after she wrote the first book less than a mile away. We also visited that site and her grave. This was the most impressive place we went. The musical in Halifax was also outstanding. But I felt a kinship to Anne here, even though she is a fictional character. This place is absolutely special and if you're a fan of the book or the author, you should visit. Plan at least two hours to not feel rushed. They have a lovely gift shop and the items there are priced fairly.

Yelp
This is by far the best Anne of Green Gables place to visit on Prince Edward Island. They have a beautiful museum, Anne's house she grew up in with Matthew and Marilla as well as Matthew's carriage. I just wish they had better food options here as they just have a dessert place but not much else in terms of food. The gift shop here is the best if you want anything Anne of Green Gables. The staff here are very friendly and nice. Get a scavenger hunt book for your kids and if they fill it out they will get a nice prize from the staff at the front desk.

Yelp
I have an extensive education, but not so much on the literary side. My readings tended more to the sciences, history, and military. I never read Anne of Green Gables but I absolutely enjoyed visiting the house! Keep in mind, a near historic hurricane had passed over this parcel of land a mere 6 weeks before. The remediation work was incredible! The trees were all trying to finish changing into their autumn wardrobe, or I should say, those that remained on the trees despite the storm, were changing. There was almost no sign of debris or damage! (The tour guide said the other side of the island wasn't as prepared for tourists as where we were at.) With all of that out of the way, the tour guide was fantastic at explaining the significance of various items in the house, the layout of rooms, and even some of the furnishings. The decor was well maintained and despite a constant stream of tourists, the house seemed as it was shortly after it was built. I know it had more meaning for many who had read the book decades before, but I really enjoyed its beauty and could picture living here well over 100 years ago. There is an expansive store for tourists on site where you can buy the book (many were doing that) and pick up other mementos.

Yelp
This is a cool heritage site. Great interpretive content. House is full of story references. Grounds are very well maintained. Good kids explorer program. This is a place worth checking out.

Yelp
I scanned some of the reviews and most people haven't read the book or even heard of Anne of Green Gables before but they still enjoyed their visit. I did read the book when I was younger but had zero recollection of what it was even about. In preparation for my east coast trip, I had started watching Anne with an E on Netflix. I got far enough in the series that I had a basic understanding of what it was about. The (new-ish) visitor centre houses the gift shop, washrooms and also an exhibit on the author of the book, Lucy Maud Montgomery. It was interesting learning about Montgomery, seeing photos and items like a typewriter she may have used to type out the book and an early edition of the book (from 1908). I had no idea that the book was popular all over the world. Just before leaving the exhibit there's a wall showing all the different languages the book has been translated into. The house on the grounds was from relatives of Montgomery and built during the 1830s and expanded during the 1870s and in 1921. I thoroughly enjoyed walking through the home and seeing what the furniture and decor would've been like during that period of time. From The Green Gables there's two trails, Lover's Lane and Haunted Wood. There's many signs along the Haunted Wood trail with information about Montgomery and the countryside. Listen closely to hear the trees "groan" as they sway in the wind.

Yelp
Green Gables was great. We've read the books (my wife is a huge fan) and were psyched to come here. It lived up to expectations. Really charming house and well preserved. We walked on Lovers Lane and the Haunted Wood Trail. The visitors center also was really nice. There's also a cafe and a gift shop. Would love to come back.

Yelp
Beautiful grounds and exhibits. We went in early September so it was not very busy and we were able to enjoy the site without too many bus tours alongside us. From the size of the parking lot though I would be concerned about visiting during busy season, the site does not have too much to see so I would imagine it could be fairly uncomfortable with too many visitors.
google avatar

Rachel C.

Yelp
Truly for fans of the books, which I am (and the movies/shows). It strikes me as a little strange to be walking though what is essentially a set for a fictional character. I enjoyed learning more about the author and thank goodness she wrote in journals her whole life - there's a direct Montgomery quote for everything! Wish there had been clear information about walking from the Green Gables house on the Haunted Woods trail to the Cavendish house Montgomery grew up in. I ran out of time and was with senior parents.
google avatar

J. Lauren L.

Yelp
Lots of LM Montgomery history and reasonably priced (kids were free). Include the walk through the haunted wood to the post office and home. It was a nice walk with great history of her life at the old post office building.
google avatar

Alex M.

Yelp
This was a funny moment for me. I was an English teacher and was raised on all the LMM books- and of course watched all the series. I even named my daughter after the actress in one of the series! But this place- not what I expected at all. The outside looks like a strip mall. It's a bit bleak but there's a big parking lot- and they need that because there are a LOT of buses. If you go to the house when the buses are there, as we did, being on one, you're going through a tiny house with tiny stairs with 80 people. It's fast. It's very very fast. If you have mobility issues I'm not sure you can go through very well. I walk with a cane and it was tough for me. Impossible for scooters and wheel chairs. The surrounding area is lovely- but this was Lucy Maud's cousins house. Because she was raised by her maternal grandmother she spent time here, and it clearly influenced her, but you need to know that going in. There's a cafe (with beavertails- wheat pastries topped with sweets) and a gift shop. I thought the cafe was nice but I wish the boutique had had local products. Mostly it was just cheap stuff from China. The cafe had fudge and chocolates from Canada (and my chocolate clusters were from PEI!) I loved a lot about PEI but not this. Funnily enough this was a bucket list item for me, and I'm glad it got me to PEI, but unless you are into houses with a tangential connection to the writer of a wonderful girls' book, maybe give this a miss. I think my husband would have preferred lighthouses and oddly so would I! (He said he have preferred something more rustic and less commercial.)

Yelp
To start off, I haven't actually read Anne of Green Gables. I didn't even hear of this until I started researching excursions for this port from the cruise line. Now that I have that info out there, let's talk about the place. We visited this place on October 24, 2017. Once we got here, we were given a sticker from the tour guide that we had to keep on to visit the grounds and the inside of the Green Gables House. After getting off the bus, we started with visiting the Green Gables House. Although I didn't know anything about this or the back story for the Anne of Green Gables, this was a great place to visit. Visiting the house was fairly easy. However, many of us felt like we were rushed to go through the building, which is two floors. It was nice to see a bit of history and how life was here in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Life seemed simple then compared to the complexities of today. After visiting the Green Gables House, I decided to venture onto the two trails that are available here (Haunted Woods Trail and Balsam Hollow Trail). The timing was great as it was sunny and warm, with temperatures in the 70s and not humid. Also, due to the warm temperatures, it was near peak for fall foliage colors as well. Walking through each of these trails was a great way to just de-stress and take in the sights and sounds of the area. It takes you back to a time when things were simple and not as complicated. Since I ended up running out of time, I didn't get a chance to stop at Cows Ice Cream. This is a local ice cream chain based out of Charlottetowm that produces their products exclusively with Prince Edward Island cows. Overall, this was a great place to visit, and I would love to come back here again in the future, with more time being available to explore this beautiful place. Sure, I didn't get the back story before coming here, but I did gain an appreciation for the culture and life in this part of Canada. I now plan to read the book at least to get a better understanding. If you are visiting Prince Edward Island, this place should be on your "to-do" list.

Yelp
This was a really cute attraction to visit in Cavendish, PEI. The admission prices are reasonable (under 10$). Be sure to get there early as there is a long line to get into the green gables house. The tour of the house itself takes maybe 15 mins, depending on how fast you want to walk through the house. There is a guide outside the house giving lectures on Maud Montgomery's life, as well as photo opportunities with a girl dressed as Anne.
google avatar

Bill S.

Yelp
The tale of Anne of Green Gables probably lures more people to PEI than any other attraction on this island, Canada's smallest province. If you've read the story, a visit is an absolute must, and even if you're only vaguely acquainted, there's every good chance you'll be delighted with what is here. And that is a farm handsomely restored and decorated to its general appearance in the late 1800s with a connection to the author of the Anne stories. (Do remember Anne is a fictional character -- created by author Lucy Montgomery -- who never lived anywhere in real life, but whose life as described on PEI by Montgomery would have been in a setting much like this one). That's perhaps more than anyone needs to know to enjoy what's here. The farm actually belonged to a relative of Montgomery, and the author spent a lot of time here as a young woman and used her experiences when she wrote about Anne. The house and grounds offer an opportunity to sample a very rural life more than a century ago, and if you know the Anne stories you'll find your imagination filling in many blanks. The house tour is self-guided, but there are staffers along the way to offer details about what you're seeing. After you've finished, there's a gift shop and small restaurant (under construction when we visited) to collect some memorabilia. And do take lots of pictures. BTW, Lucy Montgomery was a fascinating woman, well ahead of her time, and there's a short movie and museum about her life at this site as well as some of her belongings, including her typewriter. The site is easy to find in Cavendish, on PEI's north shore not too far from Charlottetown.

Yelp
Had a couple of hours to spend here and sure learned a lot more about L.M. Montgomery than I imagined. The Anne of Green Gables series was great reading when I was a girl. Later my daughter wanted me to read them to her so I enjoyed from a completely different perspective. In real life Rd his farm house was home to cousins of Montgomery's grandfather. It was the basis of Anne's Green Gables. It has been lovingly restored. The grounds are beautiful and there are several interactive exhibits in the barn and in other buildings on the property. We walked a ways through the Haunted Wood Trail, but due to damage from hurricane Dorian the previous week, lovers lane was still closed. I'd always hoped to see Green Gables and it was a long time in coming, but so worth it. Even my husband who never read the stories or saw the movie version found it interesting, as apparently did several others' whose comments I overheard. A brief orientation film was very helpful for him, even though we saw that after seeing the house. The gift shop has everything "Anne" imaginable and had a line of at least 30 people waiting to check out. The property is now part of Parks Canada.

Yelp
Amazing to see and read about Lucy's life and inspiration. Good place to see and visit. Need to read it to understand!

Yelp
This is a fun stop to see the Anne of Green Gables House. Neat to see what inspired the story.

Yelp
The 7-day Tour East Bus trip that I'm traveling on stopped here; we have 50 tourists in our group. The $222.50 attractions package includes access to the Whale Watching Boat Tour, Thousand Island Boat Tour, Hopewell Rocks, Maritime Museum, etc., of which this attraction is one of the experiences. Green Gables Heritage Place is located within Prince Edward Island National Park. Green Gables is the name of a 19th-century farm in Cavendish, PEI, and is one of the most recognized literary landmarks in Canada. It's an interesting visit and a tourist boom for Canada's smallest province. Development is underway for a huge new Welcome Centre with more amenities. Heritage Canada

Yelp
The Green Gables House is a very popular tourist attraction located in Cavendish near the junction of Route 6 and Route13, home of famous author Lucy Maud Montgomery. The Green Gables Heritage Site is a part of Prince Edward Island National Park. The Green Gables House from the novel Anne of Green Gables is preserved as a museum, as well as surrounding open buildings with exhibits and displays. I took a cool picture in an old horse drawn carriage! The grounds and gardens surrounding the House are well kept. There are informational display boards throughout the grounds. There's also a Visitor's Centre, a coffee shop (Butter Churn Cafe) serving drinks, ice cream, and sandwiches, and gift shop on the site. After we toured the Green Gables House and saw the exhibits, we hiked along the haunted trails (with guide signs) in the nearby woods to recreate scenes from the novel. The hike was a very strenuous for my partner, who has a bad knee. He decided not to hike back to the Visitor's Centre, so I jogged back to the car, bought some souvenirs including the novel at the gift shop, jumped in the car and picked him up along the side of Route 13, where the trail crosses the road. ADMISSION FEES (after April 1): Adults ($7.80), Seniors ($6.55), Youth ($3.90), Family/Group ($19.60), in CAD

Yelp
The staff were friendly. The grounds are beautiful. I didn't find the house itself to be that intriguing (it is quite small) but the grounds are gorgeous and we walked around for hours and took lots of nice pictures. We came in October so it wasn't busy at all and was the only open/public restroom available in Cavendish so we would stop by to use the restroom even after the day we actually came here and they were friendly and didn't mind.

Yelp
Confession: I never read Anne of Green Gables and did not know who LM Montgomery was. The main reason behind my road trip from Boston to Prince Edward Island was to visit the Anne of Green Gables House. A good friend of mine had this on her bucket list to see since she was a fan of the books and author. A fall trip up the east coast sounded great and I was on board. The Green Gables House isn't too far from where we were staying in Charlottetown in PEI. Once you get close there are well marked signs as to where this museum is. The parking lot is abundant of spaces especially since we saw many tour buses parked here. Once you pay at the main building, you watch a short film of Montgomery's history as well as the books. The theatre doors open to gorgeous grounds where the house and barn are erected. Especially on a clear day, there are so many great photo ops and kodak moments to capture. The Gables House tries to preserve time and keeps the house with as many accuracies it can. The tour guides and grounds staff are helpful, courteous and full of knowledge. The scene was set. I should probably read the books now.
google avatar

Yelp
Although I never read the book (Not really my thing) It was interesting to see the history and that something so renowned came from our little Eastern Island of PEI. Set in a peaceful location with rolling green and brown farm land all around, so I enjoyed being outside. I came for the mothers. My mother and mother in law loved it. So I'm glad I could make their Mother's Day a memorable one. Love ya Mums.

Yelp
I was here on June 21,2019 on a very rainy day. Ok first off I never read any of the Anne Of Green Gable Books growing up. However, I am familiar with the 1985/86 movie miniseries staring the late Colleen Dewhurst, and Megan Follows. I remember the sensational music and captivating series depicting Prince Edward Island. Anne Shirley as fictatious heroic icon is the Laura Ingalls/Pipi Longstocking Of Canada. Green Gables Heritage place which is also part of the "Prince Edward Island National Park" did capture the placating atmosphere of Green Gable. The place itself is well facilitated with adequate parking and easy entry. Upon entering the building there will is an information desk with various guides and a gift shop across the hall. There is a cafe on spot as well. Because I technically came before high season a lot of buildings were either not open, and no costumed interpreters were available. Also I came shortly before the expansion of more interactive activities. I only saw the barn and the house itself. The best part of the attractions were the trails. One was the "Spooky Hollow" and the other was "Lovers Lane". Both trails are must do's in rain or shine. On a sunny day as you amble along the forest and looking at the stream below you would wish you want to be Gilbert and canoeing to enjoy ambience depicted in the video. Rainy days also have an advantage because you can gleen at the rare red clay soil only to be found within this part of the region.

Karen D.

Yelp
I always love stopping in here and strolling through lovers lane and the haunted wood.
google avatar

Sparrow K.

Yelp
Pretty farm, the walks are easy and relaxing. Nearby golf course and service roads spoil the atmosphere of lovers lane somewhat, due to the loud vehicles driving around. The box office failed to mention that there is a special package price, and for an extra C$4.20, you can walk through the childhood home grounds of LM. MONTGOMERY. (Its across the road at the end of the haunted woods walk). There is a bookstore there and a distant relation of the author gives a brief but interesting account of her life at that place. You can buy your ticket at this point too.
google avatar

Iris H.

Yelp
The Anne of Green Gables house is a rather simple site, but definitely worth it if you're on PEI. The grounds around the heritage site are especially lovely and a super enjoyable walk through the woods. If you're a fan of the books, you absolutely must visit, but otherwise this heritage site is rather similar to many other historical home museums.
google avatar

Lindsay G.

Yelp
So cool to get to visit the location where the Anne of Green Gables booked were based. Highly recommend the walking trails around the perimeter of the property and definitely visit the gift shop.
google avatar

Amy Z.

Yelp
Anne of green gables was my CHILDHOOD. My life revolved around this, and nothing else mattered. Oh, the days. This place is definitely a nice place to visit probably once or twice and it's definitely a money grabber from the tourists. The prices are not cheap for what it is - a quick stroll through a house and the barn. The house is created in a way to draw in tourists, but definitely not historically accurate nor anything near authenticity. So fake, but interesting in a way. I would've liked to visit inside the rooms and examine all the little details, but you can't do that because it's closed off. All you get is a quick view of each room and that's it.. boo :( You can also go sit in that little carriage outside or milk the fake cow too, because why not add more touristy things to the bucketlist while you're at it?
google avatar

Sheri Fresonke H.

Yelp
This is the home that was inspiration for Lucy Maud Montgomery's tales about Anne of Green Gables. We paid the entry fee for both Green Gables and the property where she actually lived with her grandmother until the grandmother passed away, which is an adjacent property. We had a fun time wearing red haired braids, climbing into a horse drawn buggy, touring the house and walking both trails--the Haunted Wood trail and the Balsam Hollow which starts as Lover's Lane. Both are lovely trails through native terrain. The gardens around the house at Green Gables are very pretty and the barn offers a fun visit. There's also a brief movie and a museum about Lucy Maud Montgomery.
google avatar

Tony L.

Yelp
Any fan of the Anne books or the 1985/1987 Kevin Sullivan films absolutely must make a stop at this house and grounds when on PEI. Lovingly built and inspired by the story, this replica house of the Green Gables from Montgomery's books is wonderful. Yes, it is a tourist attraction, but they have gone to such great lengths to feature the house, barn, garden, haunted woods and "Lovers' Lane." It's easy to visit here and not be sucked in by the commercialism of the gift shop. I have been wanting to visit this place for 30 years and it didn't disappoint. Take one of the many paths and just soak it all in. Be sure to walk over to the resting place of L. M. Montgomery and her mother and grandparents. It's on the trail near the site of the schoolhouse.
google avatar

Donald M.

Yelp
This tourist stop was a bit of a let down when you understand Anne only visited this home of a relative. The gift shop was expensive and will become more so as they expand the location during ongoing construction.
google avatar

Jessica E.

Yelp
We loved Green Gables Heritage Place. After reading the books as a child this brought the books to life. We loved the walk through forest too.
google avatar

Alena B.

Yelp
What's there not to love. There was a bit of a crowd but what else did we expect. Our tour had pre-paid admissions so I wasn't aware of the actual ticket price nor did I have to wait in line. I loved the grounds and the store and the house itself. It took a long time to get a picture of myself in fringe of the house without strangers in the picture, but we did manage to do so. Unfortunately this left us short of time for real exploration of the grounds. My husband and I are in good shape so we decided to jog the paths to the Haunted Woods and Lover's Lane...it wasn't romantic, but we finished in record time and made it back to the tour bus. This place is a MUST see for any Anne fan.

Yelp
Visited this site during the summer of 2003, we were on an 8 week road-trip odyssey, up from Southern C.A., to Montana, Michigan, and then through most of the Maritimes (excluding NFL) and back through New England. Radical. Anyways, I am with the other reviewers, should you be a fan of the books, author (L.M. Montgomery), or the films of 'Anne of Green Gables' et al. You'd enjoy a visit here should you happen to find yourself on Prince Edward Island. Apparently, they are also known for potatoes... Cute little tour here and different stuff, gift shop etc. Definitely stop by.

Yelp
I grew up reading all of the Anne of Gables books and I've always wanted to visit Prince Edward Island. My husband surprised me with a trip for our first anniversary. The house is easy to locate and open year round. We came early May but it's best visited later in the year when everything is in bloom and the walking trails are not covered in snow. That being said it was very cool to see lover's lane and the haunted woods. The gift shop was adorable with something for everyone. After the tour be sure to drive around the coastline for some breathtaking scenery.

Yelp
I have wanted to visit Prince Edward Island since I watched Megan Follows' Anne in the mid 1980s. I figured this was a must-see as I was camping in Cavendish and fully acknowledged that it was going to be a touristy trap of schmaltz. HOWEVER, I was pleasantly surprised at what a lovely morning it turned out to be. Yes it is touristy but you get quickly wrapped up in the peace and beauty of the area. Go early to avoid the crowds and be sure to walk Lovers Lane...although beware of the creepy Anne & Diana actors who we spotted performing...although it provided a few good laughs.

Yelp
If you have not read the book or watch the movie you will not find this place interesting. We purposely watched the movie before we get there and it definitely makes a difference. The house itself isn't very big but the trails around it has really nice scenery for picture-taking.You can stroll along Lover's Lane as well as explore the Haunted Woods.

Yelp
Lovely leisurely stroll through lovers lane and the haunted wood and great intro film. The babbling brook, spooky trees and colorful birds were delightful. Proper tribute to LM Montgomery's indelible Anne Shirley and a great way to spend a few hours in gorgeous Cavendish.

Yelp
I expected more, and definitely don't think you should have to pay to see one house and a barn. It should have a sign saying "nothing to see here, BUT you should check out our gift shop." They should also let you know that the Green Gables is NOT attached to Avonlea. My friend who is OBSESSED and was visiting from Alberta, was really disappointed and didn't even want to check out Avonlea (which apparently has the whole town etc)

Yelp
We visited on Victoria Day, which is still considered low season on the Island. It meant that there were no crowds, but unfortunately it also meant that the Butter Churn Café was not open. We paid $14 for two adults to tour only the Green Gables House and not LM Montgomery's house. The admission fee allowed us to, well, walk through a barn and tour a small house (which you will learn has been slightly reworked by Parks Canada). We were probably there for a whole half-hour. I am a huge fan of AoGG, particularly since I grew up watching the Kevin Sullivan series. However, I found this Historic Site both pricey (for such limited offerings) and sorry to say, a bit of a tourist trap. It redeems points only because it represents the real-life site that is the source of inspiration for the books; but as Anne herself would say, it definitely requires a lot of imagination to realize its full potential. Two and a half stars.

Yelp
A can't miss experience for fans of the books and enjoyable for anyone who isn't a familiar with books too. There are a couple of paths you can walk that immerse you in the area that the books described. Worth every penny!

Yelp
After watching the movies and reading the books, how could I not want to go. It was overwhelmingly overloaded with tourists the day we went, but still so beautiful. If you can ignore everything and just take yourself back in time it is pretty magical, even for $14.

Yelp
Wonderful for kids as they have a special game to keep them engaged. Loved the songs and the garden. Undergoing renovations which is the only thing that kept it from 5 stars. A worthwhile trip without being 'touristy.' Watch out for the gift shop however, my grandchildren wanted everything.

Yelp
Cute little shop on the green gables site. Stop in for a raspberry cordial before you leave. Because red drinks taste better than any other color.

Yelp
This is worth the stop. Especially if you are a fan of the book and enjoy history.

Yelp
A great place to appreciate Anne. Beautiful site, well-kept scenery and fun interactive shows throughout the day. They offer guided tours of you can take a walk around yourself and view all of the artifacts from LM Montgomery's time. A must-do for a PEI vacation!
