Pleasantly surprised! I tried a couple Taiwanese vegan stores in the vicinity. They were tasty, but tend to be on the sweet side. This place is very different: food is savory tasty + spicy in an addictive way. It tastes like MSG-addictive, but there is no MSG? It is really good even for my friends who are carnivores. Highly recommend!

The owner here is very sweet, everything here is made with love & healthy. One of my favorite plant based restaurants, favorite item on the menu are the lions mane skewers or the sushi platter. I definitely always look forward to the dragon fruit beverage and taro buns & tremella desert, all amazing every time I come and visit.

Google
Saw the reviews here was pretty good so gave it a shot. The food itself was kinda ok, definitely not as good as other reviews are talking about. Everything was just slightly spicy for some reason, it looked like they just added white pepper powder, which isn't msg, to have flavor in the food. The chocolate cake people complemented on came out with freezer burns, which was a big disappointment. It was interesting seeing how they tried to make an effort to keep to the vegan style with the ketchup provided being vegan...but then they offer Sriracha, which contains garlic. So on the authenticity of how vegan this place is, I'm not too sure, since they manage to slip up on the condiments.

This place is a literal hidden diamond. It has a lovely atmosphere and the cook is the sweetest person you could ever meet. The food is absolutely amazing (you can taste the love <3 ) with fair prices. They have mostly Asian cuisine but they have sandwiches too. We had a sweet/sour bento box, ragoons, lionsmain kebab, and the sandwhich. Plus the tiramisu (to go, as the portions are large!). Everything was amazing. We literally cleaned our plates. My non-vegan boyfriend said he couldn't even tell the ham was plant based and loved it. Will absolutely be back again and again!

Google
Been here a few times already and the lady in the kitchen is always so welcoming and helpful. I've tried a few dishes and drinks. I have had the fried chicken plate, mushroom plate, sushi, sandwich, porridge and more. Everything so far has been delicious and the plus is that the food is amazing yet its more on the healthier side . The bento boxes are great I love the sides and I always add extra of the little mushroom and ham chili side they have its a must try! If you don't want it too spicy just get the mild and their drinks are super healthy for you yet but still really good. This lady pours her love into the food she makes and you can definitely taste it. Guess what? Everything is made from scratch, this kitchen is the real deal. Can't wait to come back! keep up the great work.

It doesn't seem like much walking in, but the food sells it all. Everything was safe for me to eat and the food doesn't disappoint. Absolutely recommending this place.

This was a PHENOMENAL restaurant. The unique, brand new flavors are something everyone should try out. You won’t find “normal” Asian food here, you’ll find something better. You’ll learn about flavors you didn’t know existed, especially in vegan food. I recommend the teriyaki chicken bento box and the Lion mane skewers. Cali Chikn bento box - crispy fake chicken with a variety of sides. Everything was cooked tender. The white chunks next to the fried tofu and the white dressing in the corner (chicken-salad type beat) had some crazy unique flavor. Mushroom chow Mein - the noodles were eh and not overly peppered, but the real star was the tofu-like strips in the chow Mein. I unlocked a new flavor in my mouth. Spring roll - solid, average spring roll Lions mane skewer - actually no way to describe this. The flavors taste like nothing you’ve had before. Heaven coffee - tasted like sweetened black coffee with a noticeably fruity tone from the berries. Highly recommend if you like coffee-flavor. Tiramisu - good for a vegan tiramisu, however you won’t like it if you’ve had amazing normal tiramisu.

Google
A small shop that is tucked away in a quiet plaza in West Covina (and border of City of Industry). Worth the discovery for made to order no-frills organic vegan food. 😋 Of the dishes we ordered, the standout was the fried rice. Perfect blend of spices and a dash of sauce that is fried with rice to perfection. I also loved that the owner and worker cared about whether customers enjoyed the food - they were attentive with friendly smiles. If you don’t have time to dine in, I would recommend ordering takeout. All the dishes are served in takeout containers so it is super convenient! They also sell vegan “beef” jerky and a special sauce.

Yelp
Our favorite vegetarian restaurant Sweet Veggie finally has AYCE vegetarian buffet again. We used to go to the locations in Walnut and Diamond Bar but they were closed few years ago. I'm so glad that I can have their AYCE buffet again. The buffet price is reasonable for $13.99 for ages 11 and older (lunch and dinner and 7 days same price), senior (65 and above for $12.99), age 8-10 $9.99, and age 4-7 $7.99. There's a lot of varieties to choose from, they have sautéed leafy greens, fried curry rice, brown rice, braised gluten rolls, braised gluten wheels, braised bamboo shoots with soy meat, pumpkin and tofu, vegan minced pork, French fries, etc. For the drinks, they have milk tea, Taiwanese old school iced black tea and winter melon tea. They also have herbal soup and corn soup. For desserts, they have shave ice, taro cake and jujube with Longan and white wood ear sweet soup. I liked all the food except I didn't eat bamboo shoot. The taste was pretty good and flavorful. We were so full and satisfying. FYI: just make sure that your stomach can tolerate gluten vegetarian food. It may not be easy to digest for some people.

Yelp
I absolutely adore and LOVE this restaurant! I was looking for a healthy spot that is wallet friendly, open on Sunday, & looks delicious - and I'm so glad I stumbled upon Sweet Veggie on Yelp. For $15.99, i got an unlimited hot food section with soups, veggies, and "meat" dishes, side dishes, various drinks, and a self serve shaved ice dessert area. Everything was delicious, including the drinks (i kept going back for the taiwanese old school black tea and the wintermelon tea) The workers were happy and kind, the entire place felt clean and calm, and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. Can't wait to come back and support this local shop

Yelp
I have been to every Sweet Veggie location since the original one nearby on Valley, and this West Covina location (the last remaining location) reminds me of the original. It is not a large area, there's only enough space for about a dozen groups, and in some cases you may need to sit with other people, or wait a while. When we arrived on a more popular day, it was already full around 1215 so you needed to wait about 5-10 minutes for a table to open up. However, the tables only seat between 4-6 people comfortably so if you have more than 4 people, you may need to split up. The food is quite good, decent variety, different types of vegetarian options, including a fried mushroom, veggie curry, and tomato tofu dishes. Porridge, fried rice and salads are also regular options. The milk tea is definitely one of the highlights with all-you-can-drink boba and other cold and hot teas. The desserts were also great, including a make-your -own shaved ice. We also picked up some groceries after eating, but I miss the larger format grocery store that existed at the El Monte location. The other major difference is the lack of normal plates, bowls and utensils. They switched to disposable paper and plastic, which just isn't the same as eating on a hard plate/bowl and metal forks. The buffet price is slightly cheaper than the prior El Monte location, which is a plus, making it a good option and okay value. Sweet Veggie continues to be one of the best vegetarian buffets and restaurants of any kind, and while I wish the pricing was better, considering how much smaller it is, we will still be back again.

Yelp
Food is so tasty I can't tell it's vegetarian! Service is good! Typical Asian vegetarian ambiance, but not bad at all. Been coming here for a while now and loving it!

Yelp
Great to see sweet veggie back in business. Previously was sad that both the Walnut and Diamond Bar locations that I have been to had closed. In a small mall the parking is easy. First off the food is to code for Buddhist vegetarian style, no onion, no green onion, no garlic. So if you have a specific needful that it's a great place. The cost per value is amazing. It's hard to find a buffet at this price now. Overall a smaller venue than before but same vegetarian goodness.

Yelp
Vegetarian food in the US is usually expensive, limited in selection and not very tasty. I was so pleased to find a classic Taiwanese vegetarian food joint close to my place. Although it's a bit hard to find since the GPS directed me to turn on Nogales off of Valley, it's tucked in a strip mall after you make the round corner around the medical building. So pay attention to the directions and don't make the same mistake I did and had to turn around. Now on to the food, there's so many selections and they are all so delicious! From stir fried veggies, tofu galore to imitation meat (had me really doubting if it's really vegetarian!) to soups and boba. This place has everything! Bonus, they also have a whole selections of vegetarian grocery items you can get in the mini mart. The staff were all so friendly and its got that home vibe that's so rare nowadays. Make me miss Taiwan quite a bit.

Yelp
Tomorrow is the last day of Sweet Veggie West Covina's grand opening celebration. Can't beat a $12 AYCE vegetarian buffet! I went twice during this promotional period and left stuffed each time. If you're on the fence about checking this place out due to the negative reviews, I would say don't let them deter you. Just know what to expect. Yes the place is small and gets crowded (half of the restaurant is a grocery store) but if you are there right at 5PM you won't have an issue. Small parties may be seated with strangers, but I didn't have to either time. Honestly, for fans of the other Sweet Veggie location, you know it can be a little dirty. This one's small size makes it a lot cleaner. I also like this location's change to AYCE style from the bento boxes they used to do that were 10+ dollars each and unfortunately mostly rice. The restaurant is quiet despite being packed, and they like to play Taylor Swift instrumentals here, lol. Sweet Veggie seems to be famous for its vegan oden. It's super fun with its variety of balls, sticks, and cubes so I can definitely see why. You have to try the imitation pork blood cubes if you're like me and would never touch the real thing. They're dense and chewy! I loved what I guessed was imitation beef brisket, which was some sort of delicious layered soy creation. All of the hot dishes vary day to day (and even hourly-- if you stay long enough the chef seems to put out entirely new dishes) and I love that they're not just cheap veggies and carbs. I load up with a dozen different kinds of tofu. Makes it easy to get my plant based protein in after the gym :) I never saw trays empty for longer than 10-15 minutes during the hours of 5-6PM. There's also dessert and drinks included on the other side of the cold bar counter. I got taro and egg pudding, and you can make your own boba or shaved ice with a variety of toppings available. There are desserts like mantou and condensed milk, pound cake, or fried sesame balls sometimes as well. With prices going back to normal, I probably will be going less frequently than twice a week, but mostly because of distance. I love this place and would absolutely recommend it!

Yelp
Having been devoted patrons of Sweet Veggie's Diamond Bar location before its closure during the pandemic, we were thrilled to discover their reopening in West Covina. The new location retains a similar concept and ambiance, which brought back fond memories of our past visits. The pricing is exceptionally reasonable for the quality and variety offered: weekday lunch and dinner (Monday to Thursday) and Friday lunch are priced at $13.99, while Friday dinner and weekend service are $15.99. For those on the go, their bento boxes are available for just $12.99, offering excellent value. The buffet selection, while slightly more modest compared to their previous location, is more than sufficient and ensures a delightful dining experience. Everything tastes great, from the flavorful vegan "meats" to the fresh vegetable dishes and tempting desserts. Highlights include small dim sum bites, porridge, soups, fish balls/fish tofu soups, a shaved ice station with a variety of toppings. Drinks include freshly brewed coffee, milk tea and melon tea are sweet and refreshing, perfectly complementing the meal. I left feeling indulgently full and completely satisfied. Additionally, Sweet Veggie offers a variety of Asian snacks, grocery and frozen goods for purchase in their freezer section. I took a quick glance and spotted frozen fish balls, tofu, marinated toppings for porridge, and many other tempting options. If you're not familiar, one unique aspect of Sweet Veggie is that tipping isn't necessary. The experience is entirely self-serve--simply clean up after yourself, and you're good to go. The atmosphere is relaxed, with soft instrumental piano versions of popular Mandarin songs playing in the background. Although the operating hours are somewhat limited, it seems they've already extended them since opening. Sweet Veggie is a gem worth revisiting whenever time permits--a perfect choice for vegetarians and anyone seeking a flavorful, budget-friendly meal. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Love that they're back in this area since they closed their Diamond Bar and walnut locations during the pandemic. Now I don't have to go all the way to El Monte for their AYCE! They unfortunately don't have AYCE here, but they do have great bento options. They took over the Green Green Trees vegetarian restaurant in the corner of the plaza, near McDonalds and A+ Pet. Service is always great and the food is reasonably priced.

Yelp
I was excited to hear that this location was transitioning to the buffet style of the El Monte store! It's interesting that this location is open on Tuesday and closed on Wednesday, whereas El Monte is the other way around--but it works out, since Sweet Veggie is now functionally open seven days a week. Anyway, I was initially concerned because I knew that this location doesn't have much space. It's true that it's a little cramped, but I didn't have a bad experience at all. There are fewer food options than El Monte, but still enough of a variety that I had multiple rounds of different dishes. Honestly, the main things missing were some of the less appealing options (tacos...?), so I didn't actually miss anything. There is still a variety of delicious drinks and dessert options as well, so I was more than happy with the selection.

Yelp
Kind of small interior. There's a hot bar with about 8 dishes, a hot soup bar, a lil cold appetizer bar, and some teas (with and without dairy). The dishes change regularly so you'd have to follow them on social media or call ahead of time if you're picking or want to know what they're serving. It's well worth the price for a week day, especially lunchtime. Weekend pricing is a bit expensive imo. Overall, a good place for vegetarian and vegan eats that is hearty and reminds me of the dishes my dad made growing up!
google avatar

Yelp
Welcome sweet veggie to this new location. I believe this was a vegan place before hand. There is not a ton of seating (unlike their big one in El Monte), but the pricing and selection are smaller and a bit cheaper. There's more than enough options and the food is made well. I would come here for an easy vegetarian dinner/lunch.

Yelp
I believe this specific location has changed hands two previous times. It was first "Your Vegan Kitchen" and then it became "Green Green Trees" for a good while and then switched to "Sweet Veggie." I hope it'll stay Sweet Veggie for a while or at least continue being vegan/vegetarian food places! Food - Overall, pretty good/decent. It's nothing amazing and I prefer the taste of the dishes when it was previously Green Green Trees as some things were a little different in menu items and flavor. However, Sweet Veggie is nothing to scoff at! The minced pork bento I got was delicious :) I love the savory, not too salty, flavor of the minced "pork." The sweet bean curd threads/pieces in the bowl helped give it a nice flavor as well. The pickled radish and green bokchoy gave color and a nice crisp/crunch to the bowl. The side dishes to the char siu bento all kind of tasted the same? Mostly vegetal and mushroom brothy. It's not bad but I wish there was some variety. The fake char siu itself was yummy though! Nice charred flavor and texture. I thought the fried wontons were gonna be cheesy in the middle and I'm glad it wasn't!! It was just a veg type of filling, which was tasty. Good and crispy! Sausages were okay, seeing the vegan fatty bits inside was fun but I think they could've drizzled a little more sauce. Service - Nothing to say, it's a "self-service" type of place. You go to the counter to order and pick it up yourself when it's ready. I would eat from them again but mainly take it to-go.
google avatar

Lilian C.

Yelp
Very reasonably priced food and delicious, perfect for vegetarians. The bento box has all the nutritions you need. You can take it to go or dine in, there is sauces and snacks for sale as well. Service is fast and polite. The store is small probably fits 20 people at most. Overall a great vegetarian restaurant.
google avatar

Yelp
Not sure what to say. But the place is what I like about eating vegetarian. Not using replacement but just seasoning it well.
google avatar

Linda C.

Yelp
This place is pretty cramped. It's smaller than some Starbucks and Jamba Juice stores I've been to, which is not good considering they need to spread their items out since it is a buffet. They also use some previous space on selling products. The line was long, we were given paper products to eat on; I may as well have been eating the vegetarian meal at His Lai Temple. Very disappointed considering the restaurant in El Monte is so spacious and feels like a legit restaurant.
google avatar

Jae G.

Yelp
Great little place for some veggies! My family love this place. A pretty small place but clean, with friendly staff. It was self served, but we enjoyed it very much. We will go back.
google avatar

James C.

Yelp
Good food and decent alternative to their El Monte branch. The only thing is I once saw a worker directly eat some red bean from the serving spoon... it was off putting to say the least. It made the hygiene of the whole place very questionable.
google avatar

Albert L.

Yelp
Sweet Veggie has taken over the location of a vegetarian restaurant and the result is the chain now has a location that not only serves up great vegetarian food but also cooking classes that take place once a year and also features a small mart's assortment of food for purchase.
google avatar

Yelp
Glad to see it making a comeback after the pandemics. Portion size is massive. This is my alternative choice to the heartland.

Yelp
A vegan review. Sweet Veggie is vegan small market and restaurant, that serves and sells 100% plant based Chinese food items. This restaurant ownership is fairly new. (previously Green Green Trees Your Vegan Kitchen) They also offer free cooking classes every 2nd and 4th Sunday. Their market consists of beverages, dry goods and spices to frozen vegetables and plant based meats. For freshly prepared food, they offer mainly a selection of Bento Boxes, as well as drinks, appetizers and desserts. For my lunch I ordered the Grand Opening Special, Vegan Minced Pork Rice Bento + a free drink. And Char Siu Bento, large size. The Vegan Minced Pork was good, flavor was light, and quite filling for a bowl. The Char Siu was as it sounds. Charbroilled grilled meats, with nice, smoky flavor. It also included small sides of meats and tuna, vegan of course. I've had canned tuna and was never a fan but this tuna was freshly prepared and tasted quite well. Sweet Veggie is a nice little place to visit, perfect for To Go Bentos or a quick bite to eat, for healthier plant based options!

Britney L.

Yelp
Delicious, healthy food. The service is great (albeit the language barrier) and they really seem to care about their food. You can really see the care and effort put into the dishes, and it's definitely healthier than other places!
google avatar

Yuki K.

Yelp
Small area that not suitable for handicap people. Very few food options and varieties. Very bad customer service and communication. The receptionist said we were next and ended up giving the table to other people. Also, she changed her words and argue instead of apologizing that she said it wrong.
google avatar

Jay M.

Yelp
Very good food! Staff is so friendly, kind, and helpful! Pretty great prices too. Clean eating area and now there's a little market section with plenty of grocery/snacks!

Kelly W.

Yelp
This location is a lot smaller and there's less variety compared to the El Monte location but l is still amazing! So nostalgic, especially the porridge and add on toppings. The service is great, too! Everyone is so friendly. They play instrumental music so it's super relaxing and peaceful, too. Great spot for vegans/vegetarians but I brought my carnivorous bf here and he loved it just as much. Don't forget to try their teas!

Anne B.

Yelp
Terrible Experience at Sweet Veggie - West Covina I had an awful experience at Sweet Veggie. I came in to get sesame balls, but they ended up giving me a completely different item I didn't want. When I asked about the sesame balls, they told me to wait 10 minutes. After waiting, they came back and said they didn't have any and then expected me to pay for the other item I didn't even ask for. The food I received smelled bad, and it felt like I was tricked into paying for something else. Overall, it was extremely frustrating, and I won't be coming back. Save yourself the trouble and go elsewhere.

Yelp
Excellent selection of faux meat They offer a free vegan cooking class over the weekend

Dylan L.

Yelp
Great vegetarian food. They took over green green teas on Nogales and did not disappoint!

Care W.

Yelp
This restaurant has changed into an all you can eat buffet. We came for the grand opening special. It's a small space with about 10 tables inside and 1 table outside. You pay first and then serve yourself. The tables were packed inside, so it is a little hard to maneuver to the buffet area. You eat off disposal dinnerware that you toss yourself, so there is no busing of dishes. I have no issues with any of this but I did not care for the food. The flavors to me were off and not appetizing. I love vegetables and tofu so I wanted to like this place, but the way they were cooked or the sauces that were provided were not tasty to me. The only thing I did like were the mochi balls and the shaved ice bar.

Ana C.

Yelp
There's great improvement. Went for dinner at 5:10pm today and was seated right away, No trays were left empty during the 50 minutes we were there. Food was fresh with varieties. Will definitely go back often.

Song G.

Yelp
The place has maybe 10 small tables inside (very crowded). Half of the space was for groceries. Buffet options are very limited, maybe 10 dishes at the most. Food does not look freshly cooked. Came on the last day of promotion period and had to wait in a short line but the the line appears not moving at all and while waiting in line, we saw the food people had on their plates because they are eating outside (very limited outdoor space, only 4 small tables only and few extra chairs without table). We decided to leave and go for another place right away. Glad that we didn't waste money because the food doesn't even look worth the promotional rate.

Samantha L.

Yelp
Affordable prices for a variety of vegetarian options. They make different dishes based on what ingredients they have and keep refilling the buffet with different dishes. Besides the hot dishes, they have a soup area with different types of vegetarian fish cakes and a cold noodle bar. For dessert they have shaved ice and a toppings bar where there's aiyu, grass jelly, pudding, red bean, and more. They also have drinks (wintermelon, Taiwanese old school black tea, and dairy free milk tea) which are already sweetened. I think the milk tea is better than most milk tea boba stores! The tea taste is strong and doesn't have a bad aftertaste. Plus, you can customize your drinks using the toppings from the shaved ice bar! They also have some food and snacks you can buy for an affordable price! You pay first at the front and the cashier was extremely polite and respectful! If there's something missing from the food area, just ask the lovely workers!

Yelp
This was a great restaurant. Well priced at $17 for an all you can eat buffet. The food was delicious especially the Jin doy. 10/10 would recommend.

Yelp
Very nice restaurant with selections of veggie Taiwanese food. Not only the food is good, the store is also very clean, owner is very nice. Will recommend people come here to eat!

Yelp
Best customer service ever!!! They were the friendliest, kindest, most hospitable people. If you want good vegan food this is the place to be! Great taste and quality! Tina and cinnamon roll gave us the best menu run down and amazing food choices. Definitely will be coming back as soon as possible
