Ok so if you don't already know, this place just went though a bit of a "transformation". The old place (Good To Go Taco) moved out and Green Spot either started their own taco business or another tenant moved in and tried to pick up where Good To Go left off. To be fair, I'm going to give a play by play of my experiences there over the last few weeks because they are obviously experimenting with some things and trying to improve.
First, they did just build an outside patio in the front with tables and seating...so, no more eating in your car in the parking lot when the place is packed lol. And they now SERVE BEER, so they get a bonus star just for that. That was a good upgrade...
Now to the important part...the FOOD.
First week they reopened after Good To Go Left: I went in there in the morn and they had their normal trough of breakfast tacos on the counter. This time, they had SAUSAGE in addition to the normal bacon and potato. The dude behind the counter was raving about the sausage so I got two of them and one bacon. Was a little leary because they were only charging $1.50 instead of the normal $2...and for good reason. The sausage was really bad and the bacon was so/so. Reminded me of a Whataburger taquito. The sausage seemed like it was diced up and either boiled and then mixed in with the eggs or mixed in while they were cooking. The eggs were rubbery like you'd expect when microwaving a 7/11 taco for 30 seconds too long. A major disappointment...
BUT THEN...
I went back in the second week. This time I avoided the sausage but got two bacon. Quite an improvement! The bacon was crumbled on top of the eggs like Good To Go always did it, plus the eggs tasted like eggs and not a dog's rubber chewing toy. Went back a couple of days later and got two of their lunch tacos. Meh, they were so/so. Kind of bland but not terrible like the breakfast tacos had been the previous week.
AND THEN...
The third (or maybe fourth) week. Decided to give the sausage another try. WOW, SIGNIFICANT, MAJOR, GIGANTIC, GALACTIC improvment to the fifteenth power. This time I guess they had crumbled or ground up the sausage and perhaps added some spice or chili powder to it and put it in the taco after the eggs instead of cooking them together or mixing it in when they were cooking the eggs. It was tasty and yummy. The eggs were creamy and moist. Also got a bacon taco and it was darn near as good as Good To Go. Close enough.
I haven't tried any more of the lunch tacos but I'd expect those are a work in progress as well and have faith that they're improving things as they go along. Making good food isn't easy and these guys are just starting from scratch so I'll keep going back until I go several times and am disappointed, which I really don't think will happen. I'm sure the owner had to scramble a bit to try and replace the staple that had been Good To Go for over a year. Wasn't perfect right out of the gate but they did a good job of improving things very quickly.
So if you happen to be one of those people that were disappointed with the place after going back the first week they reopened, you need to give them another shot. I'd hate to see this place lose any business because they had a big pair of shoes to fill in such a short time. They've made major progress.
So overalll:
Breakfast tacos - 4 stars now that they've had time to improve. If I was just going to rate the sausage, I'd give it 4.5 after the overhaul.
Lunch tacos - 3 stars, but keep in mind I've only had them once and it was the second week they reopened.
Staff - Those dudes get six stars because they're always so friendly. Especially the cashiers.
So my overall rating at this time is 4 but I'm rounding to a 5 because of the staff and because I know they're trying to improve. If you were disappointed over the last couple of weeks, GIVE THEM ANOTHER SHOT!!
