The Best Pie Around Minneapolis and St. Paul | Eater Twin Cities

"Fruit & Grain pies and pastries stand out for their extra-flaky crust. This may be the only place in the Twin Cities to find handmade pop tarts, which come stuffed with everything from cookie dough to peaches and cream — the hand pies, filled with seasonal vegetables and cheese, are a great savory alternative. Fruit & Grain’s whole fruit pies, made with a thick lattice crust, are flaky, sweet, and deeply satisfying. Note that Fruit & Grain doesn’t sell retail out of its Fulham Street location — only wholesale online and at pop-ups and markets. It also happens to be a dedicated peanut-free and nut-free bakery." - Stacy Brooks

We went on a weekday around 1pm. Not very busy. We had the Caesar salad bowl and wrap, and the Moroccan wrap. The Moroccan wrap was one of the best wraps I've tasted. Loved the slightly spicy sauce, crunchy bits, sliced grapes, and cilantro in it. Wish I had a bigger stomach so I could eat more of it! The kids really enjoyed the Caesar salad bowl as well.

Every now and then you'll find a restaurant that just does everything perfectly—that's Green + The Grain. To start with, their salads are top notch and you can get any of them wrapped in a tortilla if you want (the Cowboy is my go-to). Do yourself a favor and grab a chocolate chip cookie at checkout too—perfectly salty+sweet and not too big. But the real star of the show is their service. Because it's so popular, the line at this place is always long BUT IT MOVES SO FAST. Watching the staff work is like watching endless Ford Model T's roll off a Detroit assembly line. They came to do one thing and they do it incredibly well.

Convenient location right inside U.S. Bank Plaza. The staff is friendly, efficient and very skilled at what they do. This location offers frozen yogurt with vegan options as well. During the lunch rush, the line is typically long (see pics), but it moves very quickly. The line picture was about an 8-10 minute wait. I cannot speak on all of the different salad concoctions, as I have only had the Cowboy and the Cowgirl (cowboy but instead of the jalepeno ranch dressing, its jalepeno char). They are both very good!!

Green + the Grain is a convenient place to grab lunch downtown (and one of the healthier places to do so it), but slightly missed the mark on quality and value. Pros: tons of options to choose from and ways to customize your salad. Ingredients are very fresh, and flavor is there. Loved that there were so many different types of dressing to choose from. Line moves reasonably quickly as there is a small army of staff working during peak hours. Most people order to-go, so even when incredibly busy, there’s lots of seating. Cons: portion sizes are very small for the price, especially compared to a certain national competitor that also has a location downtown (and a rewards program). Salad options could be a little healthier—mine was soaked in dressing and a lot of the more interesting ingredient options seemed fried or fatty. I definitely wasn’t expecting the sesame tofu to fried until it was totally crispy like a crouton. Tip: order in-person, not online. If you order online, you’ll need to place your order by 11 am and will have to pay a 15% service charge (+ an additional 10% for delivery). I’m optimistic I’ll be back here (especially to support a local business!), but likely will be choosing the other option more frequently as it’s easier to rationalize.

I kinda feel robbed. They significantly reduced the sizes of their bowls recently but prices are still the same. This tiny bowl was $12. Salad tasted good but it was not enough food, especially for the price. Really bummed they made these changes.

Im obsessed with these salads!! The workers are so sweet and ready to make your order. Its always super busy, but they get it right every time. I bet you've never had a salad like these. I've tried The Cali, The Moroccan, and The Grain Bowl. They are all so so good. It feels good eating so well, and the flavors are unmatched. My only complaint is that there aren't more locations

My first time here. Now I understand why it is getting such rave reviews from my coworkers! My apple & pear salad was amazing!!! I had a small and had enough left over for my "second lunch."
