I drive by this place daily and was completely aware that it was here, but it never made it on my radar. It was actually my husbands idea to try this place yesterday and I can say that I'm glad we did.
I will preface this by saying that we had a very, very busy day where we didn't have the luxury of actually finishing any meal we attempted to have. So by mid afternoon we were pretty hungry. We stopped by around 4pm on a Saturday, which is an off peak time. I know some of the reviews have mentioned some inconsistency, this review is based off one visit during off peak time, so that may be something to consider.
The building is much bigger than it looks and has a good atmosphere. There are only three spots out front, but there is a small parking lot on the side. They have patio seating out front and then several options when you walk in. To the left is a very intimate dining area that I didn't really look at until we were leaving. It seems quiet, has mood lighting and some lovely murals. This is the spot I will ask to be seated in next time, much more suited to date night.
I also noticed they had a semi secluded set of booths behind the host area, but I think that would be too close to the entrance to feel private. To the right is where we were seated. It's a large bar area with a few booths and a decent amount of tables. The bar had a very classic look that I appreciated and they had a few TVs with the game on.
Our booth was along a wall of mirrors and we had ourselves an early candlelit dinner, points for ambiance, lol! The only thing I did not like about the décor/atmosphere was the tables were unusually high at the bar side booths. I'm short so I found it uncomfortable, maybe a table next time. It got loud at one point, but ended up cozy and private, which is why I would go for the dining room if I came during a peak time.
We started off with a couple of sodas and the Spinach and Artichoke Dip for $9. This was really good and hit the spot. It was served with garlic toast and tortilla chips. The toast was very crispy and held up to the dip, the tortilla chips kept breaking. It was really tasty, but the thick consistency should probably be scooped with the provided spoon as opposed to dipped. Loved the flavor though, would order again!
I was so hungry that I knew I was going with a steak, regardless of where we ended up. I ordered the 8 oz sirloin with bacon mac and charred Brussel sprouts for $20. These were the sides listed on the menu with the meal. The bacon mac was immediately appealing to me, whereas I figured it couldn't hurt to give the sprouts a try.
My husband ordered the 16 oz t bone which was listed with green beans and a loaded baked potato, but they allowed him to sub fries and bacon mac, $30. I do want to state that though this visit was an expensive meal, there were plenty of menu items in the $11-18 range. There were also plenty of vegetarian options, even a version for the CFS and you don't see that at a ton of places.
Nolan was our server and he had a great personality. He was on top of our drink refills and attentive without being pushy. He provided us with great service, which is always part of a good experience.
Timing was good, the food arrived shortly after we finished our appetizer. When the food arrived I thought my sirloin had an odd shade and it seemed really weird to me that it was already cut. After taking a bite and realizing it was a bit tough and chewy, I looked and saw it was cooked well done. At this point I would say this is what I get for ordering steak at a place that also does a lot of vegetarian, but my husbands was really good. If you cut my steak though, you saw it wasn't cooked right, why did you send it out?
The bacon mac was superb with perfectly cooked pasta that had a lovely even coating of cheesiness and real bacon! I have discovered that I detest brussel sprouts, not their fault at all. Also, I should mention that the flavor profile was really vinegary, which doesn't appeal to me, but I know plenty of people, including my mom, that would have enjoyed the sprouts. No lost stars over a personal preference. My husbands fries were unique- crinkle cut wedges that were very fluffy inside- I liked them! The bacon mac and fries are going to be repeat orders.
Nolan checked on us after a few bites and when I told him my steak was over cooked, he apologized and offered to take it back to be redone. Now, as stated above, I was really hungry and explained to him that for that reason, I was declining the offer, I needed to eat. However, this was the appropriate offer from a customer service standpoint and knowing they would fix it was satisfactory to me.
For what we got, I can admit the meal was a bit overpriced, but we also got the most expensive menu items and I clearly didn't taste my dish at its best. Not going to knock them for that. We had a good time and great service, with some high points on the food, we will be trying them again.
