First off the place is very open and friendly. I came in for a soda and bought a cookie as well At first, the pricing was expensive, but the quality, taste, and freshness made it all worthwhile. Closes thing to pure food heaven I have had in a long while. Salted caramel cookie was to die for. Employees were happy and smiling. Open areas around tables for wheelchair use and seating. I highly recommend them for the taste that's for sure!

Besides the famous cinnamon bread, I really like their waffles and cookies. They also serve some big breakfast burritos and other savory options. The coffee here is not worth it though. I've had a drip and a cold brew here and its just sort of dinner coffee. it's not good especially since there are two other coffee shops next door . there is some seating indoors and outdoors but no restrooms.

Google
Incredible food with very helpful and kind staff. Interior is very clean and cozy. 10/10 worth a trip to the area for a visit, you’re lucky if you’re local! :)

Google
Amazing food, great environment, and a helpful staff will have me coming back! That and the beignets we got with the sandwich were fantastic!

Google
While our family has enjoyed the most delicious cinnamon bread from this place for years and years, we also enjoy their breakfast burritos. As we’d typically visit their neighbors for egg breakfast burritos, we found ourselves here instead because the wait was too long next door. No probs tho, because now we just come here for all the goodies. Plus…no long wait and super nice folks.

This place has been around 100 years 1924-2024 🎉 ⏳. I’ve been coming here for about 5 years. Different 🧑🏻‍🍳👨🏾‍🍳 baked 🥯 🧁 goods throughout the year. I bought this round pastry 🥐 🥮 HELLA good 👍🏽 😋 🤤. Everything worth the price and owners and employees work 🏋🏽‍♂️ 💪🏽 hard…PHW Pure Hard Work 😓.

Came on a Tuesday morning and ordered a chicken bacon Chipotle sandwich. Greeted by amicable staff, quick service. Sandwich had a great balance of condiments and meat on sourdough bread. Free parking behind Crema Coffee. Great indoor and outdoor ambience. Fantastic selection of pastries, drinks, and sandwiches.

Charming bakery with a lovely plant-filled atmosphere. We enjoyed the refreshing freshly squeezed orange juice and delicious avocado toast with eggs. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended, and we'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Ordered a variety of breakfast bowls for delivery to a work function. Everyone commented how good the food was- including vegan, gluten free, dairy free options. Restaurant was also patient and flexible answering my food allergy questions. Salsas- red, green, chipotle also delicious. Individually packaged and still warm, and well labeled. Last but NOT least, the cinnamon bread loaf- GET ONE! So good!

Yelp
Grabbed some festive cookies for clients. They're from Italy and were a big hit. Usually come by for breakfast burritos when in town and appreciate that they have vegetarian options. Breakfast burritos are filling and really delicious! Plus they come with salsa that hits the spot too! Their cinnamon bread is the best you've ever had. Toast it up with some butter and you'll be happy. Never had anything that wasn't fabulous from Greenlee's and everyone is so friendly and helpful!

Yelp
Finally had a chance to try the spot everyone's been telling me out. Just moved to the neighborhood and the recommendations to try this spot never end. And boy does it live up to the hype. The cinnamon smell that hits you is enough to fall in love. The beautiful pastries in their case made it difficult not to buy everything. This time around we tried a bacon breakfast sandwich, which comes with their famous orange sauce (chipotle garlic heaven). I would buy that sauce alone by the gallon. Additionally we tried their cheese danish and it was so rich and savory I was beyond satisfied. I cannot wait till our next trip!

Yelp
Whoa! Stumbled into this treasure due to our go to Crema place having something off today. We thought we'd walk around and return in 10 or 15 minutes, by after walking into Greenlee's Bakery "just to see what baked treats they offered we were surprised in the most pleasant way possible. First they have an extensive assortment of food items including outstanding Breakfast Burritos & Breakfast Bowls. Delicious Illy coffee and amazing sweet treats. Second (or tied for first) is the over-the-top customer service. Greeted and treated like gold from Sergio! Generous, personal and boldly and confidently encouraged us to let him know how we felt about the breakfast which we ate there, as well as wanting to know and give our input on our next visit for the loaf of their Cinnamon bread that we left with to try at home. I believe we may have even seen the owner as there was another very hard worker performing many behind the scene tasks as well as answering the phone (wearing a Green colored sweatshirt). I would strongly recommend and will absolutely return. Sorry Crema, you've been replaced. P.S. See photos of their colossal figure 8 Cheese Danishes, and their enormous Cinnamon Buns.

Yelp
I stumbled upon Greenlee's while I was in the area and had to grab one of their famous cinnamon rolls. It was delectable! One of the workers also gave out samples of shortbread cookies that were very tasty.

Yelp
Can't wait to come back here for some more goodies! I was craving a breakfast burrito and in my search it led me to Greenlee's. I ordered the chorizo breakfast burrito and a cheese danish and cinnamon roll. The breakfast burrito was huge and loaded. With some hot sauce it was exactly what I was craving. The cheese danish was easily the best one I've ever had and the cinnamon roll was delicious also. I'd love to come back and get some more sweet treats. Staff were so friendly and the shop was small and welcoming.

Yelp
It's been on business for 100 years for a reason. I had a breakfast burrito with eggs, light potatoes added jalapeños and bacon and it was scrumptiously fresh and delicious. The cinnamon roll made daily was light and airy not overly grazed. Just perfect. The service was attentive you nit allergy and the ambience is all I needed to start my day.

Yelp
Very thick burrito! I thought it was super tasty and a very solid portion. For the price, I felt it was a really good amount of food. Yummy sausage and not rubbery eggs and great cheese pulls. It also came with a really good classic orange sauce that I believe is made in-house. Overall a very solid burrito

Yelp
Great cookies! Loved the gingerbread, good spice and chewy. Definitely on the pricier side.

Yelp
Greenlee's Bakery items have long been in certain grocery stores for years. I've visited this bakery in the past, but way before, I started writing Yelp reviews. Great tasty breakfast burritos, amazing cinnamon bread, and the cookies are pretty good. The service is always nice, friendly and enthusiastic about their products.
google avatar

Jenni G.

Yelp
I ordered my first ever breakfast burrito from Greenlee's today, after hearing so many good things about them. I got the sausage and egg breakfast burrito. The flavors were really good, but there's just too much potato in it for me. Next time I'll sub black beans for potatoes, and add avocado. All three salsas are delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
A small, homey and cozy cafe. When I went in the morning, there was only one cashier in the front and a cook in the back. It took a little bit for our food to be made but they were very nice. Breakfast burritos are on the pricier side but they are very delicious. Their cinnamon bread is also so good! Very addicting. I wish it came in slices instead of having to buy a whole loaf. I'd come more often for the bread, but I can't eat a whole loaf by myself.

Yelp
Nice casual cafe-esque bakery for grab and go and a wonderful spread of loaves. Though their thing is baked goodies, they seem to also have a spread of foods and caffeinated drinks. Their specialty is cinnamon bread, which is strangely without a menu so you gotta ask for that directly. Since we were more in the mood for a smaller portion than a whole loaf we opted for a white mocha, cheese danish, and a waffle. Folks behind the counter were extremely welcoming, friendly, and quite helpful figuring out what our options entailed. White mocha - 3.5/5 Solid mocha, but not too remarkable otherwise. Coffee isn't the strongest flavor nor is the chocolate flavor very noticeable. Works well enough as a drink to go, but not something I'd come out of the way for. Waffle - 4/5 Served either plain (what we got) or with more savory breakfast fixings (egg and bacon). Solid waffle, but misses the mark on its execution a bit. The concept is using dough from their cinnamon bread, but it's remarkably dense. Definitely sweet enough on its own, but without additional fixings it ends up a tad dry (it does come with syrup, but I wasn't looking for more sweet). Doesn't quite get crisp enough even with a fresh waffle so it doesn't quite hit that fix. Cheese Danish - 5/5 A smidge sweet for me, but wonderfully creamy filling and flaky with a touch of crunchy (I think sugar crystals on top). Gets much better with a refresh in the oven, yet still pretty good to munch on at room temp. Of the things we got this was firmly the winner in the batch and it wasn't just a relative comparison either.

Yelp
For quality of food I give it 4 stars But we were very disappointed at the price for quantity. I get it price of eggs are up but for the difference in price you would be better off buying a regular burrito and splitting in half. We paid 9.95 for a handful of food literally, Taco sized burrito. We ordered a couple mini breakfast burritos and a few regular burritos. They were wrapped in a tray so it wasn't until we got home that we uncovered the difference in size otherwise we would have mentioned it there. Love their sauces and regular size burrito isn't bad for the pricing. Thought I should share before someone else expects more and is disappointed....

Yelp
Great ambiance and location. I feel like the quality of the food has changed over the years. The cookies that I got were super salty. Also, the sold the blueberry bread frozen, which I agreed to buy since I was craving for it but the bread didn't taste very good like I remembered. I prefer to buy the fresh ones. Maybe i'll go back again and get the fresh bread next time.

Yelp
Very cute vibes in San Jose! Definetly stop here for cute breakfast vibes. Service is friendly!

Yelp
A Community favorite! I've been eating Greenlee's special raisin cinnamon bread since I was a youngster. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. My grandmother would usually get a small loaf and we'd be on our best behavior asking her for a slice "toasted please with lotsa butter "! This bakery has serious history in San Jose. It had been around for a long time. Do yourself a favor and be kind to your tastebuds (and your family's) by buying a loaf. Support local businesses!

Yelp
I got the chorizo burrito because I've heard such good things about this place but I honestly left a little disappointed. I feel like it had such potential to be amazing but lacked a lot of flavor. The size was nice and the salsas were decent my favorite was the dark red one it saved the burrito from being completely flavorless. Might come again to try a different kind but I probably wouldn't get this one again.

Mirlette C.

Yelp
Their bread is very good. And the loaf are amazing. Very good cookies and pastries. Nice employees.

Yelp
A quaint little bakery with some surprisingly good breakfast burritos! I really liked my chorizo burrito - it both had good flavor and a great ratio of fillings. I also liked both the chipotle and the red sauces! I also tried some of my friend's bacon burrito, which I felt could've used a bit more bacon but was overall quite good I've not tried anything other than the burritos, but I'll definitely return and try some of their cakes and pastries and update my review!

Yelp
I'm a big fan of green juices, and Greenlees Cafe made mine just right with an extra splash of apple--delicious! My boyfriend enjoys their bacon breakfast burrito, with their signature chipotle sauce. We haven't explored much of the bakery menu yet, but the chocolate chip cookies are definitely a hit; we often stop by just to pick some up. The cafe itself is super modern and inviting with both stylish indoor seating and cozy covered outdoor seating upfront. Overall, Greenlees is an awesome spot--it's easy to see why it's a local favorite!

Yelp
I first learned about Greenlee's through its airport location! I was intrigued and wanted to visit the brick-and-mortar shop in downtown SJ. Located on one of my favorite streets, Greenlee's is a historic bakery that will be celebrating 100 years in 2024. This fall, my husband and I picked up one of their iconic cinnamon bread loaves and it was delicious. Seriously addictive. I went back this morning to grab some holiday cookies for a family dinner. There are so many cookies to choose from and all so pretty! I also got a fresh-squeezed orange juice which was the perfect thing, and a veggie breakfast burrito. Items are a bit pricey ($5.95 for a small bottle of juice, $12.95 for a breakfast burrito without any meat) but the quality is there and the portions are generous. Plus, the staff are all friendly! Street parking is generally pretty available.

Yelp
Excellent Bakery great variety of baked pastries Rolls exceptional also the raisin bread good quality

Yelp
A cute little bakery on the Alameda. Came here twice for breakfast while in San Jose for the weekend. Loved the decor and the laid back vibe. The cinnamon bread waffle was delicious. It had a thick cinnamon roll-like consistency but also the texture of a waffle. Highly recommended! The fresh orange juice was delicious too.

Yelp
This review is strictly regarding Greenlee's Bakery's burnt almond cake. I am a huge fanatic when it comes to Peter's and burnt almond as a whole. Whenever I come across the opportunity to try this particular item, I don't hesitate. With my niece and her bf highly recommending Greenlee's version, I was super hyped about getting my hands on a slice. @ about $9 a slice, GB's version is quite different from PB's. In my honest opinion, I'd prefer sticking to my usual @ PB. The filling inside can only be described as a sticky, condense milky texture and level of sweetness- too sweet for my liking. It is nothing like the light & fluffy consistency that I look for/anticipate. While I wouldn't come back for the burnt almond, there are a few goodies I'd love to try. The cheese danish & the coffee cake look spectacular!!
google avatar

Yelp
I love this bakery and everything about it!! One of the few old-school bakeries that still around with great service and cute ambience! I also like how they keep on reinventing things like smoothies, sandwiches, as well as that new breakfast cinnamon roll sandwich homemade cinnamon rolls are the dough/bread that hold together your breakfast sandwich! Sounds delicious!!
google avatar

Kevin L.

Yelp
The best breakfast burritos in San Jose! The green salsa is super tasty, and definitely a go to for the family on the weekends!

Haley W.

Yelp
I got the chorizo breakfast burrito and it was EXTREMELY mid. It didn't really have any flavor and was pretty dry. The chipotle sauce salsa was good but the burrito itself should be avoided
google avatar

Jonathan H.

Yelp
Not too friendly, only to their regulars. (Speaking only for the gentleman who worked the cashier in the early morning hours). Greeting and kindness goes a long way with new customers.
google avatar

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
We used to love this place, it was a nice hidden gem. We hadn't been in a while but just went today, they have definitely downsized their portions. Their burritos used to be huge and super packed, now they're much smaller. I got the bacon and my husband got the chorizo, he said it lacked flavor and wasn't spicy at all. They offer a mini burrito and I'm wondering if they accidentally gave us the minis instead?
google avatar

Ash R.

Yelp
The vegetarian breakfast burrito here is AMAZING. So flavorful and such a good size for what you're paying for. The cinnamon bread is also super decadent and fluffy and the right amount of sweetness. I would definitely recommend coming here, but come early if you want a table.

Yelp
Greenlee's Bakery was founded in 1924 -- making it nearly 100 years old and one of SJ's oldest businesses! I visited for breakfast the first time last week and loved the cafe vibes. My favorite table is the window seat near the front door! The employee helping me gave me some recommendations, and I decided to go with a waffle, a bearclaw pastry, and a hot cappuccino. There's something about coffee and pastries that just hits the spot. I really enjoyed how the waffle had a hint of cinnamon baked into it, but it is definitely a bit sweet after a while. The bearclaw was good as well, especially with the side of coffee. I'd love to try some of the more savory items during my next visit! Highly recommend visiting for a quick breakfast stop!
google avatar

Kevin L.

Yelp
Loved this place! Coffee was good and their bear claws were out of this world. I had one for breakfast and we brought two home and had them for dessert tonight. Will definitely go back next time we are in San Jose.
google avatar

Yelp
Two words . Cinnamon bread. Holy wow. The best for French toast. You don't even need syrup , or even to dip it. Just oil the pan and fry until til it's crunchy . Wow wow wow
google avatar

Shristy A.

Yelp
Vegetarian reviewer: Ordered a DoorDash delivery from this place - veggie breakfast bowl. I think they messed up the order or something coz it looked like it only had eggs, a few mushrooms and potato. I did not find even one beans in it- basically it was too eggie for a veggie bowl.
google avatar

Steve F.

Yelp
Amazing cinnamon bread, it would be great if they made it with pecans or walnuts. but just a thought. Otherwise, its all about the cinnamon bread. 5 stars. Has anyone tried the other breads? whats your thought?
google avatar

Steve W.

Yelp
Let me preface this review with it is based upon eating their fresh baked goods out of the counter selection...and they were all outstanding! 7 of us walked in and picked 7 different baked items out of their service counter. I'm not going to list all seven, but they varied from a croissant to a cookie. 100% satisfaction across the board. This is rare. The service was friendly and attentive. My family will be back when we are together at Christmas!
google avatar

Yelp
So sad I can't recommend any more after my last terrible experience and it all has to do with someone named Namath who I've had to interact with a couple times before the last straw. Rude, mean, incompetent- just not what I am used to as a long-time customer of this historic establishment. When I mentioned his attitude and incompetence to one of the VERY sweet and hard working gals, and asked "what is wrong with him why is he so stressed out," she said to me "i am sorry, we know." Ugh then why is someone who provides no value to customers and is detrimental to the reputation and brand of Greenlee's, still allowed to work here and in front of house, no less! He could not fill my baked goods order correctly and not only incorrectly, but ended up taking SO long that I watched the last spinach croissant get taken, after I had given my order to Namath. As 3 people after me ordered from the competent girl, Namath stood there, unsure of the correct "sequence" of tasks, providing NO value at all in supporting customers! When I asked about what he was packing up in croissant-sized bags as I waited for a juice and all of my baked goods I'd ordered. He was so rude like he despised my very presence by rolling his eyes, sighing and a passive aggressively attempt at showing me what was in the bags. Not my spinach croissant. No apology or explanation of what happened just "we ran out." Don't go if you see Namath attempting to work at the counter just turn right around and get a burrito next door at Rosalena's. Avoid the risk of being treated by an a-hole, like you're the a-hole!

Yelp
The breakfast burrito was exceptional! So delicious, massive and flavorful. There was plenty of room to sit and lots of options for breakfast!

Yelp
From their beignets to their Apple turnovers, to their award winning bread loaves, to their amazing cookies, Greenlee's is hands down one of my favorite places. They have the most delicious treats and I just love their assortment of goodies that are delicious for all in the family. I don't think many people know that they have breakfast meals like scrambles and salads and sandwiches too! Many options! All delicious. It's been on my list to try everything on their menu because everything is delicious and prepared very well. Also, so random, but I do love their orange juice and assortment of juices available! Very fresh. Their service is wonderful - efficient, friendly, and the line keeps moving, even when there are many in line. And, their customer service is nice at the farmers markets too :) The ambiance in the store is clean, welcoming, and there are plenty of seats outside and a healthy number of seating arrangements inside too. Definitely one of my favorite spots on the Alameda!

Yelp
Blew my mind that the cinnamon bread I've been buying for ages at the grocery store is from a local bakery that is 100 years old. Then I heard they make waffles out of the cinnamon bread dough, so I had to check it out. The waffle was good, not great. It had some caramelization similar to a liege waffle, but the bread dough is a little too dense. I love toasting their cinnamon bread at home, which I think tastes better than the waffle, but I had to try it. Was surprised that they don't have toasted slices on the menu but I shouldn't be -- you can just buy a loaf and toast it home. We also had the "Fat Burner" pressed juice (grapefruit, lime, lemon, ginger) which was disappointing. On a positive note, they have a ton of loaves to choose from -- I did not know they made all those. They are back behind the counter though so you have to ask them what flavors they have. Also be advised that they do not have restrooms.
google avatar

Oliver C.

Yelp
~$20 for two pastries, a fresh squeezed juice, and a coffee. The cinnamon bun was ok. The feta cheese pastry was ok. The cheese danish looked more filling. I guess they're known for their cinnamon bread loaf. Maybe I'll stick to what they're famous for... otherwise for a random breakfast stop, it was kind of spendy.
google avatar

Esther C.

Yelp
Nice assortment of delicious looking pastries. Got the cinnamon roll waffle and it came out fresh and hot, delicious! Doesn't even need syrup.

Isabel C.

Yelp
The eggs tasted hard and over cooked. The burrito looked nothing like it did on the Uber eats app. Chorizo is usually red... I don't know what this was. The chorizo was spicy tho so I'll give them that. Flavor was really bland other than the chorizo.
google avatar

Karen P.

Yelp
Always on the lookout for a good bakery. You too? Greenlees sells their cinnamon bread in stores near me, could they please bring those cookies and turnovers a little closer to me too? Cherry turnover filling is probably canned, but thats ok, because the crust is real. Good crust matters. These would be delish with coconut filling, Greenlees . Just saying..
google avatar

Wendy H.

Yelp
If you've picked up a loaf of Greenlee's cinnamon bread from Costco or Whole Foods, then you are familiar with this nearly 100 year old bakery. It's still standing in downtown SJ and we dropped by to see what else they sold. They sold out on a lot of their pastries mid morning but we did snag a ginormous cream cheese danish, apple turnover and some cookies. I also bought a marble loaf from behind the counter. I do wish they would put out big labels of what types of bread was behind the counter because I couldn't tell what they were and I'm sure staff is annoyed at reciting what was there to every customer who wanders in. Service was friendly. They take credit cards. The marble loaf reminds me of a marble cake. Chocolate chip cookie was too soft for me. It broke in half when I picked it up. Turnover was meh. But we got thumbs up for the danish and madeline.
google avatar

Brittany K.

Yelp
The bacon breakfast burrito was pretty big, and came out super hot. I asked for my bacon extra crispy, but it was just barely cooked through. Combined with the soft hash browns, it was just a very mushy burrito that could have used seasoning, texture, and a salsa on the side. 2 stars. We got a salted caramel and a double chocolate chunk cookie -- both were phenomenal! 4.5 stars!
google avatar

Berna G.

Yelp
Since moving to San Jose, I've seen Greenlee's Bakery's name a lot and there's a reason for that! Their famous cinnamon bread is no joke, it's like a a cinnamon roll meets a cinnamon coffee cake. I've ordered their breakfast burrito a couple times and it's decent, but just not amazing. I usually opt for chorizo as my choice of meat, but of the two times I've ordered it, it lacked that kick of seasoning I expect in chorizo. I prefer the sausage in the breakfast burrito from here but make use of their salsas or your favorite hot sauce. I recently tried their breakfast bagel sandwich and it was way better! A generous pile of bacon, scrambled sheet of egg, and cheese. I chose an everything bagel with mine and I will definitely be ordering this again. If you can't make it to the restaurant, they also sell their breads at Whole Foods!

Yelp
You know when your working from home but you don't have time to make breakfast so you hope on DoorDash and order two breakfast burritos for you and bae. I ordered steak for me and bacon for them. I wanted to love it but I just didn't do it for me. Yes they weren't skimpy on the meat and eggs. Being that I'm not the biggest potato person in the world there was a lot but I'm still not giving it 3 stars due to that. It's all about execution for me being a chef. When you get to the tale end of your burrito and there is a huge glob of melted cheddar, that's execution. Your guest who are ordering out are just as important as those eating in . Just like I taste steak and eggs and potatoes in every bite the same should be said of the cheese.
