- Nadia Chaudhury

Google
A charming and well-maintained facility—clean and thoughtfully cared for. I recently had the opportunity to attend a graduation ceremony there and found it to be a pleasant and welcoming venue.

Google
Super nice gymnasium. A lot of space even though it doesn’t seem so big. Went to a UT white vs orange game and so much fun. Got there a bit late yet still had a great seat and view of the game.

Google
We go to support the UT women's volleyball team. I am amazed at the production quality of the games, the band, the cheerleaders, the DJ and the videos on the screen. The players are high quality and we enjoy watching them at Gregory Gym. Point Texas!

Brings back so many memories! Gregory looks better than ever. What an incredible renovation & addition.

Google
Gregory Gymnasium is a state-of-the-art sports facility located in Austin, Texas, offering a wide range of athletic activities.

Brandon Williams

Google
Hard place to find because alot of private street and no close parking, but finally found it and love watching the volleyball games there.

Google
Gregory Gym is a great athletic facility located on The University of Texas at Austin’s campus! It was always such a great experience to watch UT Volleyball play here! Hook ‘em!

Always Fun to watch our National Champions play volleyball

Yelp
The basketball courts and balls are great! Floors are well maintained and never a damaged ball. If it's rainy out and people are inclined to come inside - or it's the start of a new semester or new year, you'll have more crowds. The weight room is a bit small and outside for how modern other aspects of their gym are. I have heard a lot of positives about the pools, which are on my list to check out! But for now, you can catch my balling over here!

Yelp
Gregory and I have been acquainted for 4 long years during my time at UT as a student, and let me just say he has seen me at my best and at my worst. My first milestones were made at this gym- from running my first mile to benching my first bar. If you're interested in fitness this gym has it all and can transform even the scrawniest human bean like me to a somewhat thiccer human bean. My only complaint is the weight room always smells like sweat and testosterone. Go in and you'll know what I mean. Like all of apple theta pie and their frat brothers are training all on the same day. If you're looking for gym intimidation that's the room to go in, but otherwise I recommend walking 5 minutes to the recreational sports center for some clean air. On the bright side, there are a bunch of fitness gear and equipment to be found and explored in this gym. Racquetball courts, dance/aerobics rooms, cycling studios, weight room, indoor/outdoor pool, sauna, indoor track, etc. are just some of the possibilities! The gym offers classes you can register for as well, for an additional monthly fee. This castle is 4 stories. Let me break it down: First floor: FIT studio, racquetball courts, pilates room, some elliptical, running, and bike machines Second floor: Entrance floor. There is a locker room, weight room, pool access, dance rooms, and front desk. Third floor: Basketball and volleyball courts. If you go all the way to the back of Greg you can also find these really nice study rooms if the doors aren't locked. Fourth floor: A place a lot of my friends didn't even know existed! This floor holds the indoor running track. 7 laps is 1 mile. Tip: You can rent sports equipment like balls and racquets from the front desk. If you are a clutz and get injured frequently like me, you can also get first aid bandages and ice packs from them too. The gym is always packed during late afternoons and evenings, so I recommend going during the early morning for best accessibility to weights. There are some tables inside that are also nice study areas for students.

Yelp
I was jogging on the track above the basketball gym and this older/elderly white guy was literally blowing his nose all over the track. The whole track was filled with his snot, you could see it glistening. So gross, not to mention a bio hazard. The track is generally dirty and needs to be cleaned even with out snot man snotting all over it.

Yelp
I know I am posting this a little late, but I've been meaning to come around to this and now I finally have the time. I was visiting Austin from California on Monday April 15th, sometime in the early afternoon I wanted to use the facility for an hour just to get a work out in. I walked into the gym and I didn't know where to go so I approached the front desk. As I approached the front desk, the girl receptionist gave me the dirtiest look and scoffed. Her response to me was inappropriate and unprofessional and I honestly felt uncomfortable. She looked like a 20 year old caucasian blonde girl. I should have gotten her name at the time, but I was so distraught by her response I just left. You guys should honestly reevaluate your staff and make sure you don't hire mean people. This was honestly so inappropriate and so hurtful. Please try to find out who did this is. She should be fired.

Yelp
DO NOT JOIN the Gregory Gym expecting that you'll get access to the swimming pools for your whole family. You won't. The place is a ripoff and a scam, and I'm ashamed to have such a shoddy operation associated with UT Austin (where I'm on the faculty). When my wife and I moved to Austin three years ago, we bought Gregory memberships for the whole family -- our then 4-year-old daughter proudly got a membership card with her photo and all. Not only was I looking forward to taking her in the beautiful outdoor rec pool (she's an excellent swimmer and it's been her favorite activity since age 2), but the availability of a great pool on campus was why we purchased a house with no pool and no room to build one. We had planned our lives in Austin around it. Everything was great for half a year ... until some lifeguard decided that the pool was off-limits to children under 14. Except, that is, during "children's hours" ... which happen to coincide almost exactly with school hours!! Was that rule posted on a single sign, anywhere in the Gregory complex? No. It's on an obscure corner of the UT athletics website, which no one would ever find if they weren't pointed there. Did anyone see fit to tell us about this when we bought the memberships? No. Can we get a refund now? No. I arranged a meeting with Hannah Covington and Rhonda Cox, the women in charge of aquatic facilities and memberships. Surely we could discuss this on the merits, surely anyone could that see it made no sense to have the "children's hours" be while children are school. No. Hannah and Rhonda treated me like a worm on their shoe. The pool policies are set by a committee, and the committee is not in session, and even if they were they don't solicit outside input, so there's no one to petition, and what to do about it is my problem and not theirs. After two years living in Austin, we have yet to find a single swimming pool that's warm and open year-round and that doesn't exclude kids for made-up reasons. The favorite activity that my daughter and I used to do together was taken from us, and it's nearly destroyed my relationship with her. To the blank-faced bureaucrats at the Gregory Gym and at UT athletics: Shame on you. Shame on you. Shame on you. And to everyone else: learn from our mistake.

Yelp
Best place to play basketball in Austin. Even if you aren't a student you can buy a $12 day pass or $40 monthly membership. Gym is full of equipment, big nice pool outside and it's always nice catching a UT volleyball game

Brittany R.

Yelp
The woman's locker room is poorly maintained. Most of the showers are broken and the ones that work are shoddily operating. This gym has the capacity to be amazing but isn't. It's especially annoying to have prospective students coming through here every day. They should include these disgusting showers in the tour. I've submitted feedback for the past two semesters and nothing has changed.

Walker A.

Yelp
The workers here totally suck. They never let me play racquetball. That's all I want to do. The courts are always open, and no one plays, but they won't let me play. What the hell?
google avatar

Henry W.

Yelp
This is pretty much an endorsement for the pool area.. or otherwise called Greg Pool by its inhabitants. On any given sunny day, you can see a wide assortment of UT wildlife frolicking in the water or wading in submerged pool chairs. On a deeper look, you'll also spot random games of water volleyball and basketball being played and graceful (and not so graceful) swimmers doing laps. Between Town Lake, Lake Travis, Lake Austin, and Greg Pool I don't spend too much time on dry land during the summer months. =)

Yelp
Gregory is probably my favorite place on the UT campus. The staff is usually really nice and helpful, but sometimes, because of all the employees coming in and out, you will come across someone a tad unexperienced. Nevertheless, a great staff on hand. The facilities are very nice and clean with a great selection of machines. I find the best times to workout though, are usually in the morning around 7:30-9 otherwise good luck finding a weight rack. I have to say however, the best part of Greg is the pools. For a great place to relax in between or after classes, this is my go to spot.
google avatar

Alex K.

Yelp
This gym is out of box. If you have a passion for sports, you will find everything there. Fortunately, my friend sponsored me and I didn't pay too much. I had my best moments here. Everything there is clean and nice, I was really impressed with the organization too and I never had problem with bad smells or mess stuffs.

Yelp
A great place for hoopers! A gym that has everything. I love going here so much. Best gym at UT.

Yelp
When I was a student at UT, I strangely enough didn't ever take a trip to Gregory. Instead, I usually worked out in the off campus dorm gyms. Now that I'm a staff member at the university I really wish that I had thought about paying a few trips to this gym. It has everything you would need in a recreational activity facility. They have olympic sized pools, a rock climbing wall, a large weight/cardio room, aerobics classes, basketball courts, squash courts, showers, locker rooms... the works. AND for some reason I feel really comfortable coming here everyday unlike some gyms that I have been a part of in the past. It feels like some place to go after class/work and socialize, relax, and work on your overall health in any way that you want. It has so much to offer and is in the center of campus-- always easy to get to!

Yelp
Gregory Gym is an awesome place to work out. The weight room is large and well-stocked with benches, bars, racks, plates, and machines. I've used them all. Basically, you take something heavy, lift it a bunch of times, eat a lot, and then a few days later you're stronger. It's crazy. I've heard they also have cardio machines, racquetball courts, basketball courts, a running track, dance classes, a rock wall, and an aquatic complex, though I know nothing about this.

Yelp
I'm really surprised there aren't more reviews for this place! The UT Gregory gym is my favorite gym ever. It's beautiful, with high ceilings, lots of natural light, two (or three?) gigantic pools, clean, updated equipment and tons of classes. I'm a fitness class girl myself, and they have a variety of classes to keep me from being bored. They're open really late, which is convenience for me, since I am not student and I go after work. The fact that this gym is so beautiful is a huge incentive for me to go there practically every day. It makes me look forward to it. Also, the prices are relatively reasonable. I bought a Texercise pass, which allows me to go to any of the fitness classes, for $70 for the semester, which is tacked onto the monthly membership price. However, note that the gym has different passes, one for general fitness classes, one for spinning, one for swimming lessons, etc. Altogther, my fiance and I probably pay just under $100 a month for the both of us, including my Texercise pass. Such a great deal!
google avatar

Paul L.

Yelp
It's a good facility. Basketball/volleyball courts, raquetball, swimming pool, tons of machines and weights... There are also locker rooms with showers. It now has the Amazon pick-up location inside too. There's some kind of smoothie place inside there now as well. Go at the wrong time and it will be extremely full with a ton of sweaty college kids. Get your workout on!
google avatar

Yelp
I practically live at Gregory.... er...not really...but I almost did during finals (showered at Gregory, pulled all nighters at the PCL). i love this place. i've been to other gyms (Gold's, 24 hour) and the maintenance at Gregory far exceeds other gyms. i pay $70 a semester for the Texercise pass...which allows me to attend any exercise class (I have a strong preference for kickboxing) they offer..and they offer a lot.

Yelp
Aquatic Facilities: A triad of pools keep every type of swimmer happy: A lap pool for the motivated, a lounge pool for the lethargic, and a...basketball pool (?) for the young at heart. By far the best part of Gregory. Weight Room: Gregory's weight room is stereotypical. Guys desperately herk and jerk some iron in the hopes that the girls on the cardio machines will swoon. The area is packed with too many outdated machines and equipment causing bottlenecks around the dumbells and stretching areas. If you must use this weight room go at abnormal times to avoid the sardine effect. Since it's a college gym, weekends are dead. Cardio Floor (downstairs): A preferable area for aerobic exercise as compared to the meat packing district in the weight room. People are there to simply zone out while burning some calories and reading their latest assignment (or catching up on three weeks of procrastinated work). TVs twinkle along the wall, giving you access to scores or the latest episode of reality programming. However, one major flaw is that some of the machines are broken in one way or another (no audio, system resets in the middle of a workout, etc.) Overall, Gregory is sufficient but far from ideal. If you're more interested in health than vanity Gregory can be a bit difficult to tolerate, especially during peak hours.
google avatar

Brittany M.

Yelp
Con: Not enough treadmills. I love Gregory. I paid $75 for my semester Texercise pass which gets me into a wide array of aerobic classes. Gregory has a weight room with a few cardio machines, a cardio theater, a rock climbing wall, lots of racquetball rooms, two huge pools, an abundance of locker space, a cafe, equipment rental, and an indoor track. What more could you need?

Yelp
The personal training at Gregory Gym is a phenomenal deal. It simply does not get this cheap ($32 to $37.50 per hour) with facilities this good. I want to especially recommend my trainer, Lisa Lapwing. We've been working out 1-2 times a week for the past 18 months. In that time, my balance, strength and endurance are all dramatically improved, and I've maintained my lean muscle mass while losing 55 pounds. Lisa is professional, knowledgeable, creative in her approach, and dedicated to helping me reach me goals. Back to dishing about the gym. Parking sucks, so budget $3 to park in the Brazos Garage after hours or sneak onto campus before 7 a.m. and feed the 45-minute parking meters out front. Better yet, live nearby and walk or bike, or have another reason to be on campus. Go early in the mornings if you want to avoid a meat-market feel. The weight room is sometimes closed in the mornings after 8 a.m. for class, so plan accordingly. There's also a tiny, stuffy, smelly weight room downstairs for faculty and staff use, but I prefer the main room. And bring a swimsuit! The lap pool is huge.

Yelp
During my 5+ years in Austin and at UT, Gregory Gym was my second home. I estimate that I spent 3 hours a day here ...and about 5 days a week. I have spent countless hours where when I should be studying for a final. The place is just that awesome. The hours are great...I have been there when it opens during the wee hours of the morning whilst staying up playing computer games or hanging out with friends. On the flipside it closes at 1am..and I definitely stayed that late on numerous occasions. This is not your typical school gym. The facilities are top notch. The workout/weight lifting rooms may be smaller than others but are still rather big by industry standards. There is an abundance of free weights, weight lifting machines, and cardio machines. There are also rooms where you can practice dance routines & where some classes (phys ed) are held. There is also a track above the basketball courts with a running clock so you can time your miles. The equipment and gym is always maintained very well. It does not have that nasty gym smell and everything always looks bright and spotless. 2(?) years ago, Gregory Gym opened up the outdoor swimming pool area...there you can find coeds lounging around (wahoooo) or swimming. But where I lived was on the basketball courts. There are 7 Full courts. There you will always find friends to play with and enemies to conquer :D. However, I hear the state of competition there is not what it used to be. Regardless..If I were to move back to Austin, I would definitely buy a pass for the year.
google avatar

Stella W.

Yelp
The pool is great. The facility is clean. The gym itself lacks A LOT of what I look for in a gym.... no kettlebells! no bands for pull-ups no pull-up bar for that matter... no physioballs no dynamax med balls no walls for medball throws 2 bosu trainers that always need air only 3 concept 2 rowers (whose rails are always dirty) way too many ellipticals not enough space for body weight work with medballs, etc... no abmats no boxes for box jumps Kinda feel like this gym should be cutting edge and it's very far off from that as it's main focus is free weights/cybex/cardio. So behind the times....

Best Gym PERIOD

Yelp
I haven't been during the school year when all the dorm-dwellers are back in town, but I have to say that the Gregory Gym is great during the summer! The indoor track on the third floor is VERY well air conditioned. I can run three miles and barely break a sweat! Perfect for runners when we're experiencing the 100 degree weather. The outdoor pools are also very nice and well maintained. I went on Saturday afternoon and it was not crowded at all, which is nice. One thing they could use is a map...I couldn't find one at the gym nor on the website. The place is so big, it took me a while to find everything!
google avatar

Yelp
Lots of great memories here. As far as college facilities go, this one is my favorite on campus. In addition to having a lot of space, and cool facilities like a rock-climbing wall, it's a great social center. Since graduation, I've had memberships with both 24 Fitness as well as Pure Austin, and Gregory holds its own pretty well. It's not quite as swanky as Pure, but a lot more bang for your buck. And obviously, it has a lot more to offer than 24 Fitness, both in terms of variety as well as environment. Bonus - fellow Texas Exes get a discount on Gregory alumni membership!
google avatar

Gary H.

Yelp
Being a UT student, I have the advantage of utilizing all the equipment at Gregory Gym. My frequent trips to the gym include running on the 3rd floor indoor track, dancing in the two aerobics rooms, and taking a swim in their swimming pools. My all time favorite activity to do at Gregory Gym though is actually read/study. On the second floor they have an activities room with pool tables and lots of tables. It's a great place to study with minimal noise. Another great place to study is outside next to the pools to give you a relaxing atmosphere to focus.
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
Gregory Gym....ahh, those were the days. As if being fortunate enough to broaden your horizons at one of the best institutions in the world wasn't enough there is good ol' Gregory Gym. The facility has basically every essential piece of weight training and cardio equipment necessary...even 150 lbs. plus dumbells in the powerlifting room, which also has two deadlifitng platforms. Additionally, there are basketball and raquetball courts galore, pools, and spacious locker rooms. Last, but not least "The Scenery" is always nice to say the least. If by chance you don't feel like putting up with Gregory Gym for whatever reason the Rec Center, a short jog down the hill, is just as good. Hook 'Em! Disclaimer: Don't come looking for me if a week or two before Spring Break parking and/or an open piece of equipment inside is nonexistent. It's all part of the magnificent experience known as COLLEGE.
google avatar

Jane K.

Yelp
As a UT student, I frequent Gregory Gym quite a lot and because it's included in the tuition. Facilities include a indoor track, basketball and volleyball courts, rooms to play hand ball and racquet ball, rooms for dance, rock climbing wall, a weight room and an area with exercise machines with TVs. They do have clean up cloths and sanitizing sprays if you want to wipe down the machine before and after usage. There is a large indoor swimming pool and 2 outdoor swimming pools, one for lounging and the other for laps. The pool for laps is normally always filled up and the lounge pool does get quite crowded during the summer time. Lifeguards are always on staff. There is also a "spa", which is a jacuzzi by the lap pool. There are also locker rooms where you can change, rinse off, or store your items.

Yelp
great space great facilities bball courts weight room + cardio stuff pool stuff showers + locks tons of college kids (pro and con) As someone who doesn't work out I used this space to study while i was in college.

Silas O.

Yelp
For students, it's a great place. Staff consists primarily of students as well. Gym offers rock climbing, full weight room, cardio areas, yoga areas, outdoor swimming options (3 separate pools), tanning areas, racquetball courts, saunas, locker rooms, and dance studios. Lots of people play basketball, volleyball and badminton on the courts--I believe there are around seven. It is also the home of UT's volleyball team, although the location may change eventually as the space is aging and smaller in general. Hook 'em!
google avatar

Lisa B.

Yelp
This is my first semester with a Texercise Pass. Awesome! Definitely a fun way to work out with really energetic instructors and lots of options, even belly dancing and yoga and the ab lab that made me want to puke tonight. Not a fan of the weight room. Advise from a former UT personal trainer (oh that's me): work out at the Rec Center, not Gregory, if you're doing a traditional workout (some cardio and some weights). But if you love swimming or just generally hanging out at a beautiful pool, Gregory is where it is at! I have never seen a better pool. Probably somewhere has Greg beat, but I haven't been there yet.
google avatar

Noella C.

Yelp
Went to my cousin's graduation here. Nice facility. Clean. I was impressed that it didn't smell like sweat!
google avatar

Dumpy S.

Yelp
Paying a buttload of money for college is almost worth it just to be able to work out at such a nice place! The indoor track on the third floor has such nice views you'll forget running in circles is boring. The weight room has plenty of free weights and machines, while the cardio theater gives the uniquely American experience of watching like 8 different channels at once while panting away on an Elliptical machine. Lockers are only $25 a semester, which isn't bad.
google avatar

J J.

Yelp
My review probably isn't fair, but I will share my $0.02 anyway. I think this gym offers a lot. Reminds me of the gym I loved at Arizona State. I looked into gyms and this was one I really wanted to use. For someone who isn't a UT student, the prices were very high (just the generic gym pass). I thought maybe they would give a teacher discount or something else, but they don't. Will probably end up going to Hyde Park Gym or 24 hour since the prices are more in my range. Anyway in short, good for students, bad for non UT students making a modest living.
google avatar

Janet N.

Yelp
Awesome place to workout when it's not too crowded. All new equipment in the weight area!!
google avatar

Janel R.

Yelp
Gregory Gym is my new favorite place to sweat in Austin! Some of the furnishings in the locker room could use a facelift, but the facilities are great overall. As a runner, the jogging track is awesome on rainy days. There are group exercise classes and a rock climbing wall as well. As a UT student on a strict budget, this gym is a savior to my physical fitness.
google avatar

Donna L.

Yelp
Great facility. World team tennis should have been enjoyable but the announcer was obnoxious and played loud music which was excessive. One woman who was officiating in the matches failed to make many obvious calls which had to be demoralizing to these amazing, talented tennis stars. Suggestion: get a new announcer who is more appropriate and vet officiating staff better!
google avatar

Thomas S.

Yelp
Air conditioned gym shanghaied for UT Liberal Art Psychology graduation ceremony today. Perfect venue due to plenty of seats for the large graduating class and it's invited guess. No problem with restroom facilities.
google avatar

Abbey S.

Yelp
We saw the Texas Longhorn Volleyball team in action here. This is a great facility for volleyball and very unique. The facility can be configured in many ways to accommodate the sport and fan base of the event. I do wish that there were more bathrooms as the lines get very long. And the concessions are quite expensive, $4 for a bottle of water!
google avatar

Lady R.

Yelp
Compared to other gyms this gym is OK. It is the campus gym and gets super busy during peak hours, but at other times it is very nice to come to. It's usually clean although the ladies bathroom could use a lot of work, most of the machines work. Many do have problems like: in the weight room three of the five elliptical machines headphone speakers don't work or one works, or the TV's won't work on some of them, three of the TV's on the treadmill's don't work or even turn on, some of the weight machines need fixing because of over use, you sometimes have to wait in line to use a machine which stinks, the smells are un-describable during peak hours (it's unbearable many of times when you are next to that guy that doesn't know how to put on deodorant and take showers. You get the weirdos who only go into the gym to look at themselves in the mirror also known as the mirror syndrome. You have to wipe down the machines yourself, the workers won't do it for you but they do switch out the cleaning towels often to every machine. They have racquetball, basketball, volleyball, ping pong, an indoor track and two small work out areas. Many of times I feel this gym needs to be better and bigger but it doesn't look like that will happen soon. They also cut down the hours to the gym which is a bummer. Great pool area, has a sauna in the locker rooms, and also has an indoor pool. Locker rooms are sometimes closed because of games. Not a bad gym. It could be better with small changes.
google avatar

Patrick B.

Yelp
Great facility! Would love to spend more time here shooting some hoops. Love how there is an abundance of basketball courts. Great big facility to do pretty much anything and everything.
google avatar

Juan R.

Yelp
Gregory Gym has it all! Everything you can think of is here! It's the best gym on campus hands down and also the most crowded. However I don't mind it at all, I usually go to play basketball and they have a bunch of courts to play on. There are 7 courts, sometimes 5 if they let others play volleyball on a few of them. They have rock climbing, a bunch of treadmills, a great weight room, dance room, etc. The pools are beautiful! There are 3 with each one being different. There is also an indoor track on the 3rd story of the gym and wraps around above the basketball courts. If you aren't down with tracks, like I said they have a whole area designated for just treadmills. I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't love this place, such a great facility for the faculty and students!
google avatar

Joel B.

Yelp
Legit setup. At least 6 or more, hardwood, air conditioned courts separated by hanging screens. If you're not a student, you can find a student to sponsor you on and pick up a daypass for 10 bucks. Tons of pickup games of Bball going on. I played prob 5 full games in a row there. Pretty much your only option when it's 90 degrees outside and it's 9pm. Sheesh! There are also random pickup games of volleyball, and if you're lucky, you can also pick up a game of table tennis or handball/racketball too. Climbing wall (requires separate fee of $10 day pass or some reasonable amount for the rest of the school quarter think it comes with climbing shoe rental though) Lap pool, full gym, 25cent lockers (bring quarters). Only thing is that parking seriously sucks if you don't have a student pass. Prepare to pay for parking within probably a one mile radius of the school of you're not a student. This is an amazing, world class facility.

Stephanie R.

Yelp
Considering the size of the university, the gym is relatively small. However, if you go after peak-hours, typically around 8 or 9 p.m. it starts to slow down. I'd highly recommend the university extend the free weights section. There's also a dry sauna in the locker room. Tip: there is a small downstairs room with a couple of smaller weights and mats that are ideal for those seeking privacy.

I mainly went to Greg to swim (nice pool) and to attend Texercise classes. At Texercise I had some very good fitness instructors and some very very bad fitness instructors. Unfortunately, for the past three semesters, the bad ones dominated the schedule and despite dwindling attendance the gym did nothing to better their struggling instructors and so I called it quits with Greg and moved on to something much better. If you're interested in getting the Texercise pass to go to fitness classes, I would strongly recommend going every day of free week to the classes that you'd regularly attend to ensure that it's worth your money.
