Gregorys Coffee’s Biggest D.C. Location to Date Arrives February 27 - Eater DC

"New York City import Gregorys Coffee, which debuted in D.C. last fall, is about to open its third — and biggest — location to date downtown. But it’s nowhere near done with expansion plans for the year. The new Gregorys Coffee shop at 1147 20th Street NW, currently projected to open on Tuesday, February 27, is huge (2,800 square feet) in order to accommodate a bakery and training center on the mezzanine level, as well as the cafe in the front of the house. Founder Gregory Zamfotis is on the prowl for more D.C. spaces, telling Eater he hopes to open another two to three shops by the end of 2018. Two existing locations are currently keeping 9-to-5 workers caffeinated at 1000 Vermont Avenue NW and 1900 L Street NW; a fourth is slated to come online this spring at Farragut North Metro (1101 Connecticut Avenue NW)." - Tierney Plumb

Google
A place I always visit when I am in the area. Best coffee in town 🙌🏻 I stopped by today around 3 PM for a midday snack. I usually get coffee here, but I decided to try something different. The cookies and cream smoothie were really good-- Rich in chocolate with finely crushed cookies that added to the flavor. I loved it! 😍

Google
They have awesome, quick, vegan breakfast options that aren't just a smoothie bowl! For a fast bite, the vegan deluxe (a chia seed breakfast croissant with vegan egg, cheddar, and sausage) hit the spot. Gregorys is a chain that has vegan options at all locations!

Christopher Caldwell

Google
Finally! A quick and delicious vegan breakfast sandwich! Also, the staff were so helpful! One of drinks didn't taste quite right and they replaced it for us, free of charge. The replacement drink tasted delicious!

Google
had a mocha and ham and cheese croissant, both of which were fantastic! was pretty busy when we went but got our items quick

Rachelle Marie

Google
Coffee is good. Breakfast sandwiches are premade belly turners. Blonde at the counter, no smiles, not helpful at all somewhat rude and just not welcoming. The couple after us even said something. I’d have the coffee again but I’d go to a chain and feel just the same. Wasted my money here.

Eve Harclerode

Google
Always a good coffee option!! Staff are always very friendly. Options for baked goods, snack, lunch, and has vegan & vegetarian and gluten free options as well as some meat options. The hall and oats is a very good staple. The Love Affair latte is exceptional. This one has a good amount of seating and has wifi.

Google
Always friendly, nice and great coffee!!!

Google
The baristas are friendly and helpful, serving up creative, refreshing, and always tasty drinks. Haven’t tried the food - it doesn’t look super appetizing, but I go for the coffee.

Yelp
A relatively cozy location with solid coffee and good sweet options. I found it a very good place to pull out the laptop and get a bit of work done. They were very nice about it. My only issue is with the savory options. The flavor and variety are lacking compared to their other options.

Yelp
Gregory's is a beautiful coffee spot when you are in need of switching up your coffee order! For as long as I can remember Gregory's has unique coffee creations that are fun to stop by and try out. I got the Honey Badger Cold Brew, a great mix of cold brew, almond milk, and honey. It was delicious and gave me the energy boost I needed! Note - these drinks are pre-made so there aren't any substitutions to their menu items. The service was fast and the ambiance was nice and clean. Will be back!

Yelp
It's a cute small coffee shop on my way to work and a great place to study at! A tad expensive but their blueberry chai refresher hit the spot on those hot humid days. The workers are usually nice and I get my drinks quick! I miss gregory's so much!

Kyla V.

Yelp
I love the caramel cold brew! But they put so much ice the drink only lasts two sips, less ice and it would be perfect!

Stephanie B.

Yelp
We came twice during our stay for a volleyball tournament, loved the salted caramel cold brew!!! Both is us had the skinny sandwich which was much better than the ham and turkey croissant. The atmosphere is super cute and very chill. We chose this place due to its close proximity to the Mayflower hotel. Not expecting much from the service, but to note, they were not entirely warm and fuzzy
google avatar

Misgana A.

Yelp
Good coffee. Definitely nice space to do work, socialize, and just relax with a nice view. The spot also really chill. The staff here are lovely. They are all sweet and cater to customers well.
google avatar

Yelp
My go location in DC. My iced matcha latte is always fresh and delicious The baristas are friendly and really welcoming . The atmosphere is very pleasant and great for studying. Love it!
google avatar

Gabriel S.

Yelp
Really nice atmosphere. Smooth strong espresso served hot with a smile. Nice selection of pastries and different coffee drinks. Clean secure restroom.
google avatar

Dina A.

Yelp
The worst service I walked out after paying for my coffee because instead of making it they were watching reels and cavorting in the back.
google avatar

Kenneth K.

Yelp
My wife and I were early for an appointment across the street so we stepped in and ordered lavender and a honey badger cold brews and pastries all of which were amazing. We also got Strawberry Chums snacks with pandas on it. The staff is very friendly and they have decent seating for a downtown location.

Yelp
I like Gregorys Coffee and when I noticed this location on a particularly frigid day, I knew I had to stop by! I placed my usual order of Greg's House coffee and a vegan burrito and nestled into a seat in the heated area near the entrance to warm up. The overall place is cute and could be a comfy place to work from for a few hours while enjoying coffee and a light meal! The place is clean. Employees are aloof, but efficient with your order!

Yelp
Picture this: You're walking down in DC on a rainy afternoon, looking for a spot to enjoy a warm drink while getting your last bits of work done before the weekend. You stumble upon a café with a large silhouette of someone with tall hair and glasses... but what's this? The glasses are also coffee mugs? SOLD. That's how I ended up walking into Gregorys Coffee. It's more than the aesthetic and marketing, though. Customer service was on point from the moment I walked in, and so was the music they had playing in the spot! The barista recommended the Fall Oat Boy as my drink, and it was delicious! With just enough espresso to keep me going, and very cozy vibes, with its hints of cinnamon, maple, and the oat milk. I was also grateful that there was ample seating available for me to stick around and get a little productive (Though it was also at about 1pm on a Friday, so I'm not too surprised). Definitely check this place out if you're in the area!

Yelp
Whether you're a coffee-lover, tea-lover, or food / vibes-lover, you really can't go wrong with Gregory's! It's the perfect spot for a morning pick-me-up, with the most phenomenal cold brew to balance out the summer heat or a cozy hot matcha latte to warm my soul while running into the office on a blisteringly cold day. If you aren't able to have dairy, have no fear -- Gregory's has an impressive spread of plant-based milks, including the usual oat, soy, and almond, as well as pistachio milk if you want to try something a little bit more ~contemporary~. If you also happen to be on the hunt for some plant-based breakfast options, Gregory's has a super impressive spread, with vegan breakfast sandwiches and burritos (including a plant-based sausage, egg, and cheese croissant sandwich!) and overnight oats for my other plant-based and gluten-free friends. Regardless of what you're looking for, Gregory's Coffee definitely has you covered!
google avatar

Artie B.

Yelp
Pleasant location! Coffee is good! Egg White Bites are tasty! No coconut milk but still very good. Will
google avatar

Alexis B.

Yelp
I stopped by this Gregory's recently for a quick coffee/book break between things in DC (maybe after getting of the train but before walking to my first museum?). It has a slightly cramped feeling inside, except it does have these two nice areas by the front windows for sitting and enjoying your coffee, which is what I did! Service was fast, and the coffee I got was nice. Overall, not a bad place to stop for a quick caffeine break!
google avatar

John J.

Yelp
I have been here twice and had a good experience both times. Good selection of coffee and other drinks. Decent amount of seating. Not too many people (jerks) who seemed to be parked there all day on laptops with one coffee, taking up space and hurting the profitability of the place and, in turn, the employees.
google avatar

LaKisha B.

Yelp
I frequent the area quite often and decided to check it out. A girl needs her coffee. Very nice inside. Ample amount of seating. I love how there are two sitting areas with doors so that you can isolate yourself (relax, study, chit chat with others). The menu has a good variety of options. I ordered a caramel macchiato and my mother ordered The Skinny sandwich (egg white and turkey sausage) and a gingerbread latte. The latte I had was cool (I have my staples) and my mom said she enjoyed hers. The staff was super friendly and I would definitely return to try some of the other drinks on the menu.

Yelp
The prices are pretty expensive for any coffee. I got the fall oat boy and paid about seven dollars for a small. However, it is delicious. I don't know if I can justify the price always but as an occasional treat it's a great place to stop by Don't know that I would study here as there isn't much space. It's also a little too loud for my taste. Plenty of people chatting

Kt N.

Yelp
I love this place!! Coffee is a little expensive. Please give $5 from time to time like compass coffee cause it really incentivizes me to come since I live about 30 min away. Love your coffee!!

Anne B.

Yelp
Cherry bliss excellent. Very moist and flavorful. Generous portion on cinn crumb cake. Also very moist. Server was friendly and courteous Regular coffee was good and so was the cappuccino Sat outside and enjoyed this low humidity morning

Yelp
Great place for a quick morning coffee but the pastries aren't worth it. I came here on a recent weekday morning around 8:30 and got a small dark roast and banana chocolate chip muffin to go. Although there was a line, it moved quickly and I was able to place and receive my order in a timely manner. The coffee was flavorful and reasonable ($3.13 for a small, including tax). I found the muffin to be disappointing, being somewhat dry and needing more flavor.

Bruce R.

Yelp
Dry coffee cake, falls apart as you attempt to eat. Smoothie is literally just water,no flavor at all,no straw at delivery . 96oz of coffee delivered with no cups...why?
google avatar

Melissa Z.

Yelp
After visiting several coffee shops to work while in DC for a few days, I gotta say this was my favorite. But first, coffee. Of course the quality of coffee is the most important point and the coffee here is exceptional not only in terms of taste but the coffee is PIPING HOT! YAY! By the time I add oat milk to my coffee, usually coffee is warm. Here our coffee came up steaming hot which I loved. They have several eco-friendly creamers which is nice and they offer a variety of breakfast sandwiches. The upside is the variety of breakfast sandwiches - they can be plant based (made with vegan eggs and vegan cheese and vegan sausage) or regular eggs and destroy-the-environment animal protein option. Note that these are pre-made and not cooked to order but they are quick and delicious and filling. The bright setting and multiple outlets make it easy to work but the loud music makes it less ideal if youre trying to study. The super cool feature is that they have 2 glass enclosed nooks situated in between the interior and the patio. Super cool spot for coffee and conversation. This will def be my top coffee house spot to work in next time I'm in DC.

Yelp
I got the fall oat boy. It was great. Very flavorful and not to sweet! Perfect on a summer morning in DC
google avatar

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
I stopped in here and really enjoyed the atmosphere, employees, and food I ordered. I split a delicious blueberry muffin and a breakfast croissant. The blueberry muffin was the perfect amount of crunch, but soft. The croissant I shared was "The Deluxe." It was delicious. They served both of these warm. The next time I am in the DC area, I will be sure to be back to try another tasty menu item or coffee!

Kat T.

Yelp
The fall out boy and vegan deluxe were so good! Very cute inside. Loved all the plant based options.

Ambika K.

Yelp
Love that they have several vegan options on their menu, both savory and sweet. Coffee drinks are delicious, although I wish they would drop the upcharge for plant milks.
google avatar

Avi R.

Yelp
Decent coffee shop in DC. The have a unique interior/vibe! They serve tea, coffee and few smoothie options. For food they have baked goods, sandwiches, yogurt parfait and bottled soda. Dine in is open, free wife and service was fast!
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
Decent little coffee shop. Service was fine, but the coffee seemed very watered down to me. I'd stop in again if I were nearby, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.
google avatar

Jeremy P.

Yelp
Had the chocolate croissant which was delightful and an Americano. Prices are comparable to Starbucks. Flavor of the americano was superb.

Yelp
I've previously tried Gregory's at one of their other DC locations. While it wasn't my favorite latte, I recall really friendly and fast service as a major plus (and much appreciated!) This shop's downtown location is ideal given proximity to the Mayflower Hotel and Farragut North metro. Fast forward to more recent times and the main positive from this visit was the decor. The greenery on the walls was cool. There's not really a major rush like pre-pandemic times, but there were a few other customers when I visited. All had ordered before me, so I expected to wait briefly. I ordered a golden milk latte and a chocolate croissant. Both were fine, though not standout. Perhaps a different beverage would be better. Service was not kind and friendly like my initial experience with Gregory's, so it brought everything down a notch. If you're in the very immediate area, it's a viable option.

Flávia R.

Yelp
Very disappointed. Ordered a cold brew and it was very bitter, usually cold brews are smooth. Ordered a vegan muffin to go and when I got back home it was a chocolate croissant. My friend got a latte and he said it was really good.
google avatar

Jonathan B.

Yelp
Love the ambiance here. The staff here are awesome. I'm not vegan however the batista recommended the vegan burrito with some chili oil and she was not lying it's definitely worth the try I'm here visiting on business and just needed a place to pass time and work for an hour or so and this place is perfect. The place is not crowded with plenty of sitting room. Just a heads up, they do ask you if you choose to dine in to show your vaccination card. Enjoy!
google avatar

Tony C.

Yelp
Great place for a quick bite or to get some work done. Had good and rapid service. Setting. Modern decor. Music is a little loud for getting work done. Food. Today I had a vegan deluxe, a vegan take on a egg, sausage, cheese croissant. Smaller than I was hoping but packs a mean flavor. Wouldn't be able to guess that Just Egg is vegan. Also the multigrain croissant is a brilliant change of pace without losing the buttery, flaky texture expected from a croissant. Iced green tea on the side. Service. Exceptional. Kudos to the cashier this morning. Her positivity and friendliness made the experience top tier this morning. Cost $6 for the sandwich and $4 for a medium tea.

Yelp
Update: this is still my favorite coffee shop in the DC area. What really stands out are the excellent staff members at this store. Today I asked lots of questions about smoothies and sandwiches before I placed my order, and everyone behind the couunter was pleasant, acting as though they didn't mind the dozen detailed questions, lol. When I requested that a baked good be wrapped up extra tight (because I wasn't eating it for a while), the nice guy behind the counter we found me a piece of tinfoil. Super service and good food here, with healthy options! First impression: This coffee shop is an absolute delight. Great location, super friendly staff, and delicious baked goods! If you download the Gregorys Coffee app, you get a $5 credit on your first order. Juwan hooked me up with the Honey Badger drink (cold brew, almond milk, and a touch of honey). I also tried the peanut butter banana power bite and the chocolate buckwheat bite. Everything was deliciouI can't wait to come back and try more! Another thing I love about this location is the plentiful seating, indoors and out. There are even two tables in a window area so you can get all of the sunlight from outdoors without all the noise.
google avatar

Todd B.

Yelp
4.5 stars but I'm rounding up cause my complaint is stupid. Great location-half a block from the farragut north metro station (as long as you exit on L street). Great WiFi-fast and free. No issues staying connected to my work vpn and handled a lot of data quickly. Outlets galore at the tables inside. Outside seating (but no outlets) and cute kinda alcoves at the front door to make you feel outside and a bit secluded, but again, no outlets here. Coffee was excellent. Got a regular drip coffee and a cappuccino, both with oat milk and stevia and both were delicious. Food was surprisingly delicious. Got their vegan burrito with just egg, vegan cheese, beyond sausage, and other stuff in a whole wheat wrap and loved every bite. One complaint-tables were tiny. Two people could not sit at one table with their work computers and function. Should have at least one or two larger tables for people working together. But that's a minor complaint and shouldn't take anything away from a 5-star coffee shop experience. It may be a chain - there are multiple locations in both DC any NYC (and maybe more), but sometimes you get chains that you don't understand how they became chains (I'm looking at your Applebee's) and then you get restaurants where it makes total sense that there are a lot of them and you wonder when the heck they're coming to your town. This is the latter. Unfortunately, if you're starting in NY and DC, Saint Petersburg is probably a bit far down on the list.

Paul G.

Yelp
Terrible service. They closed down more than 10 minutes before their closing time and refused to make drinks. Store also dirty.
google avatar

Phoebe D.

Yelp
The coffee here is great - not too sweet, good flavor, and great value for the price. The staff are so friendly and the interior is also nice. The location is also great as it's right next to the metro station so perfect for picking up on the way to work.
google avatar

Geri C.

Yelp
As soon as we checked in at the Mayflower Hotel on Connecticut Ave. last Monday afternoon we went searching for coffee. This shop's located practically right next door. We're not familiar with name initially. Found out it originated from NYC where we just visited. They served good quality coffee. We loved the carrot raisin pound cake. Moist, soft, not too sweet, simply addictive! Went back for more. Barely sat back down and it was closing time at 5!
google avatar

Cameron B.

Yelp
Perfect coffee shop. That kind of place where every baked good you order or "nut milk" laté you order makes for an Instagramable picture. Heck, even the interior, with floating plants, dark, wrap-around bench seating nooks and wood panels makes the interior a feast for the eyes. This place is just cool, and it's location, awkwardly placed between Farragut Square and Golden Triangle makes for a caffeine Oasis in an options dessert. This is the type of space you'd find in the lobby of a 5 Star Hotel, but this sleepy corner of DC is blessed by a large and lofty space, perfect for mid day meetings or post brunch coffee! Unconventional approach, this cafe focuses on dairy free options in both food and drinks. There are even smoothies and espresso free "latés". I had the green tea laté with almond milk. Bitter, bright and refreshing!! They also have excellent cold brew and nitro ice coffee you can buy in growlers for office parties. The cold brew coffee is very good and is made with coconut water for "extra hydration". Put all together, it's my go to coffee shop if I'm anywhere near it!!
google avatar

Allison N.

Yelp
Great variety of coffee and drinks here. I ordered from the app and it was very easy! Initially I wanted the Charcoal Mylk but was told it had gone bad so they didn't want to serve it to me. The barista was very nice and explained she would make anything else for me for the inconvenience (any size) so I got the iced matcha latte. So delicious! I am usually around this area for some workout classes and would love to make Gregory's part of my weekend routine. This is the only location that's open on Saturday and Sunday. It's very clean inside, bright and welcoming. I'll be back!

Addison B.

Yelp
I love Greg's! Greg's has my favorite coffee in DC. The atmosphere is great and very welcoming. The drink options are fun but they have great classics. The pastry and food options are also the best vs. some other coffee chains in my opinion!

Moolu T.

Yelp
I've been coming to this location for over a year and when I say I'm always pleased with the service and the energy. The coffee is amazing the staff is even better! I'm sure Jacob lives here because I'm here nearly everyday and so is he. Overall great experience overall!!
google avatar

Phylicia H.

Yelp
Absolutely adorable, clean and spacious inside. Very trendy spot. Wish I worked from home at this location. Ordered the triple fruit smoothie, which was so refreshing and good. I will definitely order that again. I also ordered the deluxe breakfast sandwich. It was very small and average. I thought it was a bit pricey for the size. Highly recommend their smoothies though! Love the branding, too!
google avatar

Emma W.

Yelp
Starbucks has better service, which says a lot. My croissant was burnt to a crunch and they refused to add honey to my iced matcha to mix it in. The Starbucks on L st will make whatever to your tastes and has larger sizes, but Blank Street Coffee on Connecticut Ave is significantly better quality. Needless to say I won't come back to Gregory's.
google avatar

Sevana W.

Yelp
I wanted to get some work done this morning, so I stopped by Gregory's, which was just a 5-minute walk from my hotel. At the barista's recommendation, I ordered the salted caramel cold brew. It was good but REALLY sugary- this coming from a person who loves sweet coffee. I ended up ordering a small black cold brew on the side, which I mixed in to cut the sweetness a bit. There was free wifi and a nice working ambience, though. I'd come back but maybe order something different next time.
google avatar

Justin F.

Yelp
A great spot with good coffee in the Golden Triangle area of downtown DC. Had their Deluxe breakfast sandwich and house coffee.
google avatar

Trinity W.

Yelp
Service unfriendly. Waited 10 mins before they put my sandwich in to heat. Prioritizes online orders over in person orders

Julia A.

Yelp
great food and drinks. wonderful service and very nice delivery people always. I have not been to a store yet but the vibe is always amazing from my experience with Gregory's products and people. Top recommendation!
