Taco John’s Sends Brewery Cease-and-Desist Over Taco Tuesday Trademark | Eater

"A Somers Point restaurant that secured a New Jersey state trademark on the phrase in the early 1980s; that state-level registration is the reason the later federal trademark does not apply within New Jersey, illustrating how earlier local claims carved out geographic exceptions to nationwide rights." - Jenny G. We visited here while on vacation with our daughter, son in law and granddaughters. Food was very good tonight, but part of our group we’re disappointed because No Mango Cart draft even though listed on menu, No blue cheese for martini and sold out of soft shell crab even though we were there at 5 to make sure they could get it. We all visit here every year so we were surprised and suggest this might have been just an off night. However all of our food and drink we did get was excellent! The server did apologize for the issues as she should have.

My wife and I love this establishment, and made it a point to dine here every time we were in the area. The seafood specialties were delicious, and never failed to delight. Unfortunately, Gregory’s has taken a step backward since the last time we were here. The service was just unfriendly. The dishes I love were unavailable - three different things on the menu! Our waitress was unapologetic, and when I said I would keep looking, she didn’t bother to ask if I had found something; she continued to serve the others at our table while ignoring me. And never asked if any of us would like drink refills. I have never experienced anything but fabulous service at Gregory’s, so this comes as a complete surprise. In addition, my guests commented that their food was not great. The drinks were not that great either. Surprising, for a restaurant that we had come to love. Now just another mediocre eatery. If you love seafood there are much better establishments within a few miles.

Stopped in on a quiet Tuesday and had a top notch experience!! Bartender Joe was so friendly and attentive. Maddie our server at the bar was terrific. Ordered the spicy tuna with crispy rice special and the Brie prosciutto avocado sandwich with mango salsa they excellent. Thank you chef Ryan. Well done 👏👏👏👏

Home of the ORIGINAL!! Taco Tuesday. (p.s. Taco Bell should be ashamed of themselves for stealing this from Gregory's) This place is always consistently good. First from the easy in/out, free parking lot across the street to the great service. The food is great. Something for everyone (except the one vegan with us was only able to get the impossible burger, nothing else) The drinks are great. The bartenders are old school and really know what they are doing. The food is great. Served with a smile. Very good menu with lots of different fish/seafood options, meats, etc. The dinner salad that comes with an entree is so fresh and colorful. I just love the family friendly atmosphere. It always feels like everyone working there is part of a big family. This is a place I go to almost every trip down the shore. I try to keep away from the tourist traps in the Ventnor/Longport area. Try it! you'll like it!

Google
Great place to take the family. Food was ok I had the short rib tacos with the rice. The tacos were good, the rice that came with it was good, it had a different flavor that I normally used to with a slight kick of heat. The drinks and service were good as well, will definitely come back with family.

Google
Came here last-minute on a recommendation and was super glad I did. The staff were all friendly, they had plenty of beers and cocktails on the menu, and the food portions were MASSIVE. Two of us split the cheesesteak egg rolls, the brisket poutine fries, and the mahi tacos, and we left with a ton of take-out. The food was bar-food-esque but all delicious. Note, this place quickly fills up on the weekend.

Google
A long-time favorite among residents and tourists. Always crowded. A large, well run bar and tables. A separate dining area with a good assortment of fresh seafood and land lumber menu. Bar area is somewhat noisy.

Google
First time here... Sat at a high top on the bar side of the establishment, Marissa was our server. She did a fabulous job with knowing the menu and recommending items. My entree was the scallops that came with sautéed spinach and I had the side of mashed potatoes with it. Came with a house salad and I got blue cheese as my dressing. My mother got the lobster ravioli entree topped with shrimp and got Italian dressing with her included house salad. We absolutely LOVED everything we ate. Definitely will be returning!

Yelp
Went for lunch after fishing at the bridge. Didn't catch anything so but we did catch the Mahi Mahi taco (not pictured) but was good. Shrimp scampi and starters were good.

Yelp
Does the chef ever taste his food? Has he a clue how incredibly salty the manhattan clam chowder is? Hey! I have an idea.....USE LESS SALT! Crispy bacon on my burger? How about a soggy fatty limp slice or two? No care, no imagination, probably tired of his job. Come on Gregorys....you CAN do better!!

Yelp
Three couples met for dinner The ambiance was drab. The good news is that they had a dining room separate from the bar which made conversation possible. The bad news is that the server was torn between two rooms. The food was mediocre and pricey. I had a crab cake that was mostly filler and wasn't a cake at all but fell apart on the plate. My partner had a dish that was mostly pasta with a few small scallops. ($90for the couple) To top it off as we went to pay we were told they could not take multiple credit cards. Fortunately we had enough cash. This management rule should have been stated up front. Bottom line mediocre management and food even for a bar restaurant

Ed K.

Yelp
7-24-25_Food was served lukewarm. It seemed to be sitting under the heat lamp for too long. The hostess was stressed out about not having enough servers scheduled. She was down right rude to our elderly female waitress. We waited about 30 minutes and then after being seated didn't get bread or waters for another 20 minutes. Then didn't get our order taken for at least another 10 minutes. The snapper soup smelled bad, so I sent it back. Doubt if we ever return to Gregory's and will be warning friends and family about our dining experience.

Yelp
I spent the majority of my time here waiting for Ashton Kutcher to walk in as the service was so bad I genuinely believed I was being punked. The bartender, who had a striking resemblance to US Senator John Fetterman, showcased one of the worst displays of professionalism I've seen in my 63 years on this planet. After completing my initial sub bar beverage, the bartender (who might have actually been Mr. Fetterman) refused to even look in my direction for the remainder of the night leaving me with a glass as dry as his female counterparts loins. Disappointed is an understatement and I expect more from bartenders and this nation's elected officials. Burger was decent.

Yelp
Après Beach, at Gregory's Restaurant & Bar proved food doesn't have to be fancy to be good. Driving back home from a great day at Ocean City Beach on the Jersey Shore, severe thunderstorms often follow so Gregory's Restaurant & Bar's Summery Shrimp Scampi, one of my favorite pasta dishes and an easy comfort food - generous butter, garlic, warm spaghetti- effortlessly simple but satisfying can be delicious. Gregory's Restaurant & Bar's crispy, jumbo Buffalo Wings with side of Buffalo Sauce weren't too spicy but full of robust Buffalo flavor. Mind-blowing Vietnamese Fish Sauce Wings are more perfectly addicting.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch on a weekday in the summer. The bar section was the only spot open during lunch so we grabbed a table in the back. All of our food was good and service was quick. I liked how the chicken cheesesteak came with fried onions in it. Paying with cash will save you an additional service charge.

Melanie E.

Yelp
Did not appreciate one of the bartenders we had serving us last night. He was incredibly rude and I'm not one to write reviews but he definitely left a bad taste in my mouth...Can't remember his name but older guy with a man bun! Absolutely terrible.

Yelp
We have been to this fine establishment twice in as many months. Once for a baby shower and on another special event featuring bourbon and baseball. Both times the staff has been awesome and could not have been friendlier. The restaurant is separated into two main sections- one side is a very large bar with some seating either at tables or booths. The other is more table and high top table areas that also doubles as a special event room. Great decor in the banquet room with a smaller bar while the larger bar area on the other side is comfortable and classicly " down the shore". Food on both trips was very good and it's fairly obvious that the staff cares about presentation and taste. I'm sure I'll be back when I go to visit my friend who lives in the area.

Gina G.

Yelp
Ordered take out. Not going back! Snapper soup- Fair Not very flavorful - tasted like it was left in the warmer too long. Potato Skins- Again Fair Turkey Club - Decent - I prefer my turkey sliced and not shredded pieces as if it was in the bottom of the tray. Fries- Awful Absolutely Awful! They must have been refried multiple times-soggy and greasy. Do not waste your money!

Don B.

Yelp
Gregory's used to be a great place. Our most recent visit was terrible. There was one waitress for four tables and she tried her best but was overwhelmed. The food wasn't good at all. The fried shrimp were overcooked, The seafood platters left a lot to be desired. I don't think we'll go back

Yelp
We found this place in pursuit of a place our family of 8 could peacefully have dinner away from the boardwalk. It had a great menu, service was nice and thoughtful, and the food pleased everyone in our group. We got burgers, cheesesteaks, risotto, and more. Ambiance is a bit dated, but no real complaints. Fries were especially loved by the group.

Yelp
Went on a weekend night. The place was pretty packed, but we were seated relatively quickly. The hostess seemed frustrated that we asked about the wait but still got us in within 5 minutes once a table was bussed. Our waitress was friendly. The burgers were pretty good, but the fries were more oily than I expected. I asked for no onions and got them anyway. It took at least a half hour if not longer to get our food (two burgers) after ordering, which the waitress did apologize for. A DJ came out about 9pm and started playing a very diverse variety, I'm assuming by request. The music was so loud that you couldn't hear the person you were seated with unless you were yelling. If I do go back, it won't be on the weekend.

Yelp
Great bar, fantastic food. Family owned and operated this is a true gem at the Jersey Shore. Love their special menus like Oktoberfest, Cajun Menu, and Irish menus. They are limited time selections, each one is unique and absolutely delicious. Get them while you can. And you can't beat Taco Tuesdays!!!

Yelp
Very disappointing evening. Starting off with slow, poor service. Our server had no personality, no social interaction, we needed to ask for water on more then one occasion and our server spilled the water over the table and jeans without offering additional napkins to clean the mess up. The onion soup was overly salty, my burger was over cooked, the chicken sandwich was so dry you could not cut it, the fish in the fish tacos was cold as were the fries sent with the burger. The fried pickles were good as was the fried mozzarella. The Sheppard pie I was told was good and the fish from the fish and chips (not shown) was tasty. Sad to say we won't be back.

Ted R.

Yelp
My wife and I came for dinner. The food was good. The server was appropriately attentive. The atmosphere was satisfactory. When the bill came, the amount we were asked to pay was more than the total of the amounts we ordered. I asked why. Our server said they add a surcharge for guests using a credit card as printed on the menu. That notice is in small print at the bottom of the front of the menu. We immediately turned to the menu inside and didn't see this notice. We paid what was asked because the server didn't have any control over this surcharge. I spoke briefly with the host when leaving. She said most places are adding this service charge. I checked a number of local places and found out "most places" aren't adding this charge. We occasionally go to "cash only" places and the "cash only" policy is prominently displayed and they have an ATM available for those needing cash. We enjoyed our meal at Gregory's but left with a bad taste in our mouths. We won't be back.

Yelp
I've been going here since i was a baby. Their lobster is the best thing i have ever tasted, None could ever compare to it! The waiters are so nice and we are friends with most of them. I would recommend this place to everybody i meet. Despite never trying the burgers as i always order lobster, i have heard good things.

Charles R.

Yelp
The food was uncooked and tasted bad, and the service was just ok. I do not recommend this place don't waste your money.

Dan O.

Yelp
I have visited this restaurant on numerous occasions because I live right in Ocean City. Their burgers are fantastic so I usually stay with my favorite so haven't tried many other items. The owner is always onsite, overseeing the operation to make sure standards stay high.

Yelp
My wife and I dined at Gregory's last night for dinner. The restaurant had good energy and was very clean. They have a large bar with tv's. Plenty of beer and mixed drinks to choose from. We started with a double order of wings with buffalo sauce. They were amazing. We also had short rib poutine. Very good as well. My wife had the scallops served over a bed of spinach. Overall very good but saltier than she prefers. I had the flounder Francaise over spaghetti. Large portion. Only issue was it was very salty. Otherwise excellent. I would highly recommend Gregory's for food and drinks. We plan on returning for taco Tuesday's which starts back up in September.

Yelp
DEMOTED AGAIN !!!!! - Revisited tonight during their annual Oktoberfest to try the German menu they have for a month on the weekends. - Sadly, I was disappointed.....again. Almost ZERO due to the good sides. I ordered the Wiener Schnitzel. This year it was veal instead pork. In order to have a "Proper" Wiener Schnitzel the veal MUST be pounded with a proper spiked mallet to a thickness of less than 1/4" (6.5mm) and quickly pan fried in butter to a "golden" brown. It supposed to be tender enough that you should able to cut it with the side of your fork. - I was served a "hunk" of dark brown breaded veal between 3/8 to 1/2" thick. It appeared to be deep fried in the over used french fry cooker. It looked and tasted terrible, it was far too thick and needed a steak knife to cut it. - C'mon guys....for $27+ bucks now, when are you ever going to get it right???

Patrick C.

Yelp
got the scallops & Shrimp over pasta, not really sure if the scallops were skate or shark, but they weren't scallops. very disappointed but everything else was good
google avatar

Kelly V.

Yelp
Server was rude. Food took a really long time when the restaurant was pretty empty and did not even taste fresh. Not as advertised in the menu and totally disregarded the request of well done fries. They came out soggy and oily, as if they were sitting around waiting. The nachos advertised cheddar cheese but it was cheese sauce on super hard chips and brown gauc. They did take off one entree from the bill but I will not be returning.

Fran R.

Yelp
Not a great atmosphere and the staff in there was not friendly at all bar was full and wouldn't let us sit at a table to grab a quick drink. Charlie's up the street is great
google avatar

Stacy M.

Yelp
Great local old school bar with surprisingly exceptional food. Family owned and run so it's always a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. They host live music nights in their dining room which are always entertaining. I.e. jazz night, night in Paris . Get the burgers, short rib poutine fries, extra crispy potato skins...

Linda P.

Yelp
Walked in we sat at the bar and were not waited on , acknowledged, looked at pretty much ignored. After 15 minutes we walked out , we felt like the regulars were the only ones being taken care of. Officially blackballed will never go back !! Ain't no Charlie's !
google avatar

Sue B.

Yelp
Food was good, French onion soup was great, very hot. Shrimp sauce was good I enjoyed it. Ruben tasted good but was soggy. The service started out good. Friendly and recommend items. Then we never saw her after delivering our meals and my husband asked for another beer and I asked for more water, received them when we were done. Food was good but service not so much, we were the only ones there.
google avatar

Kenneth H.

Yelp
Food was really good but went there for German food but they only do that on Fri Sat Sun. Unfortunately I was there on Tuesday. Service ok and Ambiance ok.
google avatar

Albert S.

Yelp
Went for dinner and jazz. Overall a good evening. For drinks our friends ordered cocktails both of which they thought were small. The later switched to beer and wine which had a much healthier pour. Everyone seemed to be happy with their meals. I had the seafood risotto which was good. It also came with a salad and side of green beans. Both of which were fine. The service was ok, the water glasses were filled consistently but the clearing of the table was lacking and many times we sat with empty plates that took up the table space. The jazz on this particular night was really good.

Yelp
I don't even know where to start. We were excited about Taco Tuesday. We got to the restaurant; it was crowded but no wait. We sat down and ordered spicy margarita "up", bang bang shrimp, soft shell, chicken fajita, and crispy fish taco. The crispy fish taco is $5 on the menu. I was pretty thirsty and hungry as it was getting late. It took around 20 mins to get our drinks and mine came "on the rocks"! That's fine. At that point, I don't see the benefits of sending it back. We enjoyed our dinner very much. Food was outstanding. However, my taco is $15.00 on the check. Our waitress apologized. She put in the order for mahi instead of regular fish taco. She offered to take it off, but I ate it all and I should pay for what I ate. Honestly, I couldn't find anywhere on the menu that the mahi was one of the options. All and all, I'm not sure how I feel about the service. I am not positive that I will revisit even I love their food so much.

Yelp
Been here several times on my way back from the beach. The sautéed soft shell crab has been consistently wonderful. Comes with a house salad that was larger and heartier than I expected. Gregory's didn't strike me as the type of place to order a martini, but I went for it anyway and was pleasantly surprised. I've only seen one bartender here and he seems to know what he's doing. Drinks are strong and proportions are mixed well. The staff are attentive and food comes out quickly. Overall great experiences, and will definitely be back.
google avatar

Nicole A.

Yelp
This wasn't our first plan but after the crab trap had a 2 hour wait, we ended up at Gregory's. Upon walking in and walking to be sat the hostess was interrupted by a waitress who appeared to be upset about the where the group in front of us was sat. We were standing basically in the middle of this confrontation because the hostess was about to sit us. It was pretty awkward and not a wonderful start to the evening. Once we were sat the waitress came over pretty quickly. The same waitress that was having the confrontation with the hostess. We both looked at each other like "great". After we ordered multiple drinks, soups, appetizers and entrees, her mood seemed to lighten. The drinks were good, strong and balanced. The French onion soup was very good! Apparently it was award winning and I wouldn't disagree with that. As appetizers we got wings, I didn't like the sauce, and potato skins, which were very good. For entrees we got a Mac and cheese burger and the seafood risotto. The burger was cooked well but the Mac and cheese seemed to be dry and uncheesey causing it to fall off the burger. The risotto was good but not as good as I expected from a place so close to the ocean. Over all I wouldn't say this was great place or a bad place... just kind of in the middle.
google avatar

Heather I.

Yelp
Nice options for vegetarians. Welcomed our large group with you children. There is parking across the street.

Dawn E.

Yelp
I just had the best appetizer at Gregory's... thx to Chef Ryan! Arancini w/ short rib and mozzarella with marinara and pesto.. could not have been more perfect !

Mark P.

Yelp
The summer of 2024 just disappeared after August, and I can't figure out how it flew by in the wink of an eye. I have searched the calendar, looking for where the time went and what we did to make it fly by. It must have been all the outdoor concerts we attended from Somers Point to Avalon or all the great Happy Hours up and down the coast. But one place stands out from all the rest: Gregory's. What a find!!! Even though it's been around for a long time. We somehow managed to drive by it all the time because the parking lot always looked full. Well, folks, FIND a parking spot somewhere! Anywhere! Because this is a great places to stop and enjoy, the people and food the drinks and the wonderful staff. Theres a happy hour menu and a decent deal with the draft beer selections. Everything we have tried on the menu has been perfect. Cant wait to go back on Taco Tuesday there's a story there so don't forget to ask.

H P.

Yelp
Gregory's is a staple landmark in Somers Point, I have been coming here for as long as I can remember. Its a family owned and operated business with a welcoming atmosphere and excellent bar food and full dinners. Taco Tuesday and Thursdays are always a hit, they have some of the best tacos around. Perfectly seasoned with thick blades of freshly shredded sharp white cheese on top and fresh salsa. The food is always fresh and consistent and the service is on point.
google avatar

Brittnee H.

Yelp
Took my nieces to lunch here. Soooo glad I did. Emma our waitress could not have been any sweeter. The outdoor dining set up was cozy and well shaded and a welcome relief on this 90+° day We ordered the soft shell appetizer - fried perfectly! A cesar salad & the summer Berry salad which were super fresh ...all the ingredients perfectly balanced...and the Bang Bang shrimp ( a fave of our waitress) good choice I can't wait to bring more friends and family back and taste more of their amazing extensive menu. Bon appetite. You won't be disappointed.

Bobby B.

Yelp
Food was great, best bar burger around! The wait staff and bartender were pleasant. I would definitely recommend.

Robert H.

Yelp
In 9/29/23 last night ordered the mussels not very good sauce very watery and not served hot in temperature
google avatar

Sarah T.

Yelp
Gregory's is a staple in the Somers Point area and to be honest I love it solely because the Pups & Pints benefit thrown here provided the connection between my beloved 6yr old rescue min pin Dexter BUT dining here with the family was not that great. The service was super slow. It took forever for us to be seated and it's a summer Friday night so I give time of course but our table was empty and we just stared at it for 10 mins before it was cleared and we sat. Normally I could care less but we had 4 hungry kids. The highlights were the fried pickles, mozzarella plank & Rueben. Recommend any of these options. The French onion soup was good to look at but watery to eat. The French onion burger was bland and had no flavor and I was super disappointed because Gregory's won the AC Burger Bash in 2016 I had high expectations and it was a major let down. Also the side of sriracha ketchup was clearly marinara sauce...ew! I even asked our server if that was correct and she said "yes" if you can't get sauces right than expectations are set low. They charge for the sriracha ketchup mind you. Overall it was a mediocre meal and sadly I don't think I'll return. It's sad because I so badly wanted to love it here given it was where I first met my furbaby!

Natalie F.

Yelp
The food is great. My son in law said it was the best fish sandwich ever and the rest of the family was very pleased with all their orders. I can vouch for the tasty chicken cheesesteak! Service was a little slow. Loved that they have a parking lot across the street. Ambience is great. Some day I would like to eat in the dining room but it hasn't happened yet.

Beth T.

Yelp
When we went the dining room was already closed so we had to eat in the bar which was a little too noisy to enjoy a dinner but the food was so good we were glad we did. I had the chicken pot pie which is a special. It was served in a large crock. I broke through the puff pastry on the top and scooped up a delicious portion of white meat chicken with gravy veggies and mashed potatoes on the bottom. You have to eat it with a spoon to get all of the deliciousness at once. I would gladly go back and sit in the noisy bar to eat it again.

Dan V.

Yelp
Backyard is excellent!! Feels like I stumbled into someone's backyard party uninvited, but happily welcomed! Bartender had a ponytail, that's cool. Food wasn't gourmet....but we didn't want that. We wanted chicken fingers and fried Mac and cheese. They delivered perfectly. Music is on point. My girlfriend and I loved it. Stop by if you like beer, snacks, and a good time. Don't stop if you're stuck up.

Lynn M.

Yelp
Unfortunately we didn't have a good experience this time but will try again after the summer crowd is gone. Upon entering, the young hostess never acknowledged us. I politely said two please. She said sit anywhere. We chose an empty high top, cleaned it ourselves & waited. After about 10 min, i went up to the young hostess & asked for two menu's. She never looked up when handing them to me. Waited & waited as servers passed us. Finally asked the hostess again to please send over a sever. Nothing. So we left. I love the burgers & fries & will try it again. The service just needs to be stepped up.

Alison Q.

Yelp
The lobster mac and cheese made me cry real human tears (it was so good). The waitress was really sweet, and food came out very quickly. It was an hour wait but it was worth it.

Emily P.

Yelp
Gregory's busy season is the summer! Good place for drinks/ food. Service is friendly & quick as well

Yelp
We had a pretty good meal here! First though, when we walked in, an older woman/hostess completely ignored us. We waited about 8-10 minutes and even approached the podium - and she still wouldn't acknowledge us. So confused. We were in beach attire - so we thought maybe there was a dress code? Either way, she didn't seem to want to talk to us don't know why!! So, we went to the other side and we were seated immediately. Carly our waitress was awesome. Felt her kindness was genuine and was very prompt. Green beans were kinda sweet, but delicious. Beef veggie soup was great for our 4 year old. Meat was tough, but it tasted SO GOOD! Good food portions - the salmon was really fresh and tasty. I think it was farm raised - but not sure. The salad was really good too. Fresh. We would go back. Thanks Carly!

Yelp
Every year I try to make it to Gregory's during Bay Fest and since last year I had to skip Bay Fest I was excited to reunite. There is a parking lot across the street and is one block from the bars/ocean area. Gregory's is great in every way possible for my annual festival day drinking. You want a beer or mixed drink? You'll get it fast. You want decent food without a long wait? Perfect spot. Prefer outdoor seating? They have a private area and get this, it's tiki-syle--fun! Two cons: Long bathroom wait and not enough seating for the outside area (first come, first serve in this bar). FOOD: I ordered a crab sandwich and it was out within 10 minutes. That's pretty good considering it was super busy. The crab cake was a lump and claw mixture with less filler compared to other bar joints. The roll tasted like a fresh grocery-bought bread. The coleslaw was fresh and not watery. The french fries were not my thing at all (I don't like fries to begin with though). They had an oily taste so my friend ate them for me instead. At least she liked them. I didn't eat my crab cake as a sandwich because I really only wanted the cake. It was cheaper as a sandwich than just as a crab cake ; with tax and tip it was $11 for the platter.
