The 19 Best Haitian Restaurants In Miami - Miami - The Infatuation

"Jackson Memorial Hospital is probably the last place you’d expect to eat great food. But that’s where you’ll find some of the best Haitian food in Miami. Gregs Cookout is on the south side of Jackson’s Allapattah campus and will blow you away with its wings. We like ours with a glossy mango habanero sauce that’s sweet and buzzing with heat. They also have a fantastic griot that comes with your choice of rice, fried plantains, spicy pikliz, and a small side of chicken broth. Go for the savory mushroom for your rice option, and pour that chicken broth all over it. Then take a moment to appreciate how they get their pork shoulder so crunchy outside and juicy inside. If only hospital food was this good." - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo, mariana trabanino, carlos c olaechea

Gregs Cookout is on the south side of the Jackson campus and will blow you away with their wings. We like to order ours with a glossy mango habanero sauce that’s sweet and buzzing with heat. The food here was so good words cannot express lol. Wow. Real authentic Haitian food. The vibe was DOPE!!! The waiter was a sweetheart. The only thing is the food took long to come out but once you get the food you forget how long you’ve been waiting because the food is so good.

Google
Great experience overall. Place appears to be a hole in the wall but if you know a hole in the wall you know. The food was good and surprisingly enjoyable. Would recommend if you are looking g for a different type of cuisine. The inside looks a bit sketchy and the service was not the fastest. Was indeed worth the wait and would recommend.

I was in Florida with my girl and decided to try this restaurant since I see the hype about it on TikTok. Once we arrived, the atmosphere was good for a Sunday evening. The Dj spinning some great tunes; I felt welcome. I ordered the passion fruit juice and my girl had a glass of wine. We the ordered ship and salmon with black rice, Mac & cheese for her, shrimp and lobster white rice for me. Not only it takes a long time to receive the food, but I noticed a couple that came behind us already eating. Once we got our food, the shrimp tasted good but the presence of the salt in the food was awful. The sauce the provided for the rice was overly salty. I complained to my waitress who in turned complained to her manager. The manager came out asking about our disliked, we explained to her the issue of the food, to be fair she did offered to have another salmon served to us. Despite we hardly touched our food, they still proceeded to charged us the full price. The food is definitely not it. If you go for the atmosphere and drinks, you might like it but the food is terrible.

I have been seeing this place on IG. I was excited to try it out and support the business. I ordered my food which was easy enough and was told that it would be ready in 30 mins because it's cooked to order. I could appreciate that heads up because it allowed me to manage my expectations on the wait. However.....I received my food 1 hour and 3 mins later! I ordered the snapper with shrimp meal and a griot complete meal. I also asked for an extra pickliz and gravy before I got my food and still had to wait after the food was ready to receive it. After finally packing up to leave, I was stopped and asked to pay $2 for the extra gravy and pickliz. At that point I was very much bothered that after spending almost $80 on 2 meals and waiting over an hour, a $2 sauce charge could have been comped at that point. Aside from that....THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS!!!

had a great experience thanks to Yvena J💫. They were attentive, friendly, and made sure everything was just right throughout the meal. From making helpful menu suggestions to checking in at the perfect times, their service was thoughtful without being intrusive. It really made the dining experience enjoyable. I appreciate their professionalism and warm attitude definitely one of the best service experiences I’ve had in a while!”

Okay! I have been wanting to visit this location for so long as the reviews I’ve heard are amazing, spoiler alert - they were not wrong! My friend and I walked in around 6:00pm and it took approximately a minute for someone to greet us. This didn’t bother us too much as we were taking in the atmosphere and were just happy to be there, LOL. We were seated at a booth, however ended up opting to sit at the bar because the booth chairs are low. The bar was clean and comfortable so that was a plus. Service at the bar and overall the entire restaurant seemed slow. Our waitress let us know that the food would take about 35 minutes so she took that first and then went onto the drinks and hookah. We appreciated the heads up. For food, I got the Tasso Kabrit (Fried Goat) - Complete) which comes with your choice of right and plantains- I opted for black rice. My friend got the grilled shrimp with black rice. We both got a side of Macaroni as well. All of these were so good! In all honesty, the shrimp was probably the best shrimp i’ve had in a long time. The goat was also so good and flavorful. Everything was actually perfect. They are not a full bar so be mindful however they have 3 specialty cocktails and we got the Darker the berry and very mellow, both of these were so good! Not too strong, and tasted like they were made with the real ingredients. The reason for the low rating, despite great food and ambiance is because of the subtle hygiene. I dropped my mac and cheese and our server got Me a new one (I was extremely grateful) However, once the I got home, my mac had a red long hair baked inside- my hair is blonde. This just put a damper on the entire experience I also witnessed one of the ladies lick Her hands and touch a cup and one of the other ladies were touching dirty glasses and then proceeded to make patrons drinks. Overall, I would go back but hygiene and sanitation needs to be updated.

When my friend first suggested this place I was on the fence because I just wasn’t thinking it would be good. Once we got here I wasn’t sure if I was gonna enjoy the dining in but everything besides the tap water was awesome. The oxtails with shrimp was great and my friend had the ribs with shrimp which was extremely tender. Briana was our waitress and at first I wasn’t sure about her but she definitely grew on me and provided excellent service. Overall the food and service was great. Highly recommended to anyone.

Been wanting to eat here for a while now, a couple of weeks ago I stopped on a Friday night and the place was packed, too long of a wait for takeout. Today I decided to go again around lunchtime, not too busy but a lot of takeout orders though, made my order and waited patiently for 30 minutes or so and I can tell you it was worth every second, the food is awesome, it was flavorful and tasty, this was one of the few times I got plantains perfectly cooked. I loved the Griot and Djon Djon rice. The girls were great, attentive and nice. Will definitely come back and order something different.

Yelp
The food here is delicious! Perfectly seasoned. The atmosphere was pretty chill, went during lunch time. And the service was great as well. I'm definitely adding this as a go to whenever I want Haitian food.

Yelp
Greg's Cookout has been one of my go-to Haitian restaurants in Florida. But I'm heartbroken and disappointed to say that I will no longer be supporting this restaurant. Over the last several visits--four times, to be exact--I've come early in the day, only to be told that my favorite dish legume (Haitian veggie stew) was already sold out. That alone seemed off. But the last incident was especially troubling. I called around 2 PM to place an order and was told they did have legume. However, once I gave my name and number, the woman on the phone paused and made a comment as if she recognized me. Suddenly, she claimed they had ran out. My boyfriend, who overheard the conversation, felt something was off. He called back just ten minutes later using his own name and was told they still had legume available. This made me question whether I was being deliberately excluded. I never expected to associate this place with discriminatory practices, but the pattern and that specific interaction left a sour taste I can't ignore. Good food is never an excuse for bad treatment. Sadly, no matter how delicious the plate, I can't support a business that makes me feel unwelcome.

Yelp
Sigh I always want to support my Caribbean people but it's always something. I was advised to make a reservation so I did with a $50 deposit for Mother's Day dinner. We were seated on time but waited a long time to get our drinks and appetizers. They also ran out of several menu options. No oxtail, conch, meatballs, chicken, and passionfruit juice. The restaurant was not busy so the wait didn't make any sense. The positives were that the food and drinks were delicious. The restaurant is decorated nicely. There's room for smaller groups to dine comfortably together. Overall experience could have been better. I would not come back for a sit down meal. I would definitely order to go if I do decide to come back.

Yelp
The food was amazing. Best djon djon and griot I've ever had. An amazing Haitian restaurant

Yelp
This food blew me out of the water.... 10/10! The temperature was perfect, flavor was there, not too salty, and server was great. It did take awhile for our drinks and food to come.... but I gave grace because it was only one server on the floor. The only downside was the wait and the $20 cocktails, the price wasn't disclosed nor was there a drink menu so I felt cheated. Other than that, I would go again and just not order a drink because the drink was more than my meal..........

Yelp
Excellent Haitian Caribbean Food, The service was better than any Caribbean restaurant I have been to. The waitress was very pleasant. Even though she was the only waitres waiting on about 5-6 tables. She was very attentive. The food came out hot, fresh, and ready! The flavors are authentic! I had the Turkey Tassot Simple and the Griot Complete with Djon Djon, fried plantain, and pikliz. We also ordered a side of Mac and Cheese. The Mac and Cheese was creamy and savory. They add green and red peppers which gives it a nice flavor. It compliments the Entrees very well. I did not try the fresh juices but I heard they were good. Overall, great service, nice restaurant, great food. I will be back!

Yelp
Greg's cookout is a 10 out of 10 highly recommend everything there tastes amazing once you come inside is a nice vibe especially on the weekends. You're going out for brunch and it's a great ambience for sure. The service was excellent. They make sure they explain to time explaining the food that's there and what it comes with and what not so that's awesome and the food itself was great. I had the grillo With rice and beans and mac & cheese and I also had the salmon pasta. This place was amazing 10 out of 10 highly recommend. Full review on my YouTube page @where2nxt

Yelp
We walked in on a Saturday night and was seated immediately. The waiter allowed us choose our seats which was awesome. Lights were dim and the DJ played Haitian music all night. We enjoyed the vibe. The waiter was nice and took our order immediately. The drinks came out within 5 minutes but our food took way longer. I actually timed it. We ordered at 7:05pm and it came out at 7:53pm!!!!! Short ribs - COLD and dry - no sauce 5/10 Plantain - 8/10 Shrimp - SALTY AND COLD 5/10 Black rice - COLD but tasty 9/10 Signature drink - 0/10 watered down Passion fruit juice - 10/10 Mac and cheese - steaming hot 10/10 - so tasty There's absolutely no reason why the only hot item on our plate was the mac & cheese . especially after waiting almost an hour for our food. Hopefully they'll find a way to have more drink selections and serve HOT FOOD in a timely manner!!!!

Yelp
I'm Haitian-American so I'm very familiar with Haitian food. I visited Greg's Cookout for the first time yesterday and the food was amazing. It might've been the best Haitian food that I've ever had. The griot bites were tender and had a light coating of this delicious sauce. The fried fish was fresh and seasoned. The rice and beans were cooked perfectly. The fried plantains were airy and crispy. Christine, our server, was so sweet and attentive from beginning to end. The restaurant is small and decorated simply. The music was also great - they played a mix of different Haitian songs. My only 2 points of criticism were the price of the drinks and my check. I ordered a small cocktail mix and it was $20. Although, it was made decently, I've had much better cocktails for much less. They also add a 3% processing fee if you pay the check with your credit card, which I thought was, for lack of a better word, tacky. Overall, I'll be back for the food and music and be sure to bring cash lol

Yelp
My friends were there and asked me if I wanted some food from the establishment, I looked over a picture of the menu that was sent and settled for the salmon pasta. I didn't fully read the description and assumed it would be penne but to my surprise it's spaghetti noodles. The pasta was salty I think who ever made the sauce was a little heavy handed.

Yelp
I wanted to try this spot for a little while and I finally got the chance. I wasn't able to dine in so I decided to do an online order for pickup. I went in but my order wasn't quite ready yet. I did my order at 11:03 am and it was ready by 12:15 pm. The wait for the food was not long once I arrived for pick up. Since the order was around opening time there was no one but staff present. The young lady who was at the bar (didn't catch her name) was nice and helpful. My food came out pipping hot! Presentation was great. I do wish they gave more shrimp for the creole shrimp order but hey. I had like 3 and a half shrimps for my rice and fried plantain. I also ordered Tasso turkey and it was delicious. Both came with red beans and rice and two fried plantains. I also ordered a side of macaroni which was good. I do plan to return to dine in and try other menu items. The inside of the restaurant was clean. Try them out!

Yelp
Jamaican lady with the curly hair is extremely rude. She's very condescending and she's very unprofessional. She looks like she needs help running and serving. I don't think she's a good fit for your company. I placed an online order and she had no problem letting me know that I can cancel it if I want to and all I wanted to know how much longer it was gonna take the wait time is extremely excessive. She didn't apologize and she was just so much in a hurry I felt rushed.
google avatar

Samantha P.

Yelp
The food is soooo EXCELLENT. If we talking about Haitian food this is where you need to come and try some. The food is always fresh also hot and don't come here if you are in a rush because great food isn't quick it takes time. The service is slow but that's okay because typically when I go there it's one server so give her grace when you go. I love the set up it is spacious, has a tv, and music is playing in the background. (Free parking)

Yelp
My sister in law recently tried this new place and said they have the best Mac and Cheese. So today we shall see. We order takeout via the phone. When we walked in we were greeted the restaurant is beautiful decorated and black themed.

Yelp
Ok, so I have been dying to come here for about a year to eat because of the great reviews. I finally got a chance to come today and I was so excited. Staff was great, wait a little long. I ordered for my family 2 chicken in sauce complete with beans and rice, and 1 griot complete with djon-djon. First off the chicken and sauce was delicious, the djon-djon was good but a bit dry and so was the beans and rice. The griot had no and I mean no seasoning at all. I was so disappointed. The 3 stars are for the chicken and service. I am soooo disappointed that I'm sure not in a hurry to return.

P A.

Yelp
I must say I was dissatisfied with the service, rude employees, sat for 30 to 45 mins, before being acknowledged by waitress, I must say the place was busy, but the lack of professionalism is missing. The food was good, but I value great service.
google avatar

Hollis C.

Yelp
One thing that makes a restaurant stand out above the rest is consistency. After several visits I can honestly say that they are on top of their game. The food is always hot and fresh with the perfect amount of seasoning. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!!!!!! Kudos to the chef!!!!

Donna B.

Yelp
The 4 of us, we were Greeted and seated immediately! Our wait person(Christine )was very professional and attentive. I had a glass of Merlot. I ordered the " griot bites", it was served with 4 plantains/tostones and a side of pikliz, the others had stewed goat with mushroom rice/jonjon, fried goat served with plantains, and griot complete! ALL of the FOOD was absolutely delicious and the portion was sufficient! Everything was great! I will definitely come back and strongly recommended this establishment! 10 out of 10! It was very clean! A true hidden gem!

Yelp
This restaurant opened just a few months ago. I decided to check it out. The ambiance is relaxed with a Caribbean vibe. I ordered the fried chicken dinner which came with rice and peas and plantains. The chicken was flavored well. Crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The plantains had a nice crisp but still tender on the inside. Our waitress was very attentive and provided great service.the only downside was no alcohol being served and the passionfruit juice was very very sweet. A little too sweet for me. Other than that, a great meal.

Yelp
Five star experience! One of the best haitian restaurants I've had in such a long time. I remember Chef Greg's old restaurant in Boca Raton and I am so glad he's set up shop in Miami! The service is immaculate and the food turn around time is typically 10-15 minutes or less. Truly a gem I have already ordered a plethora of times. My parents shared the Fried Snapper, which was fresh, with a light crisp and perfect with the stew sauce on the side. The Plantains are freshly fried along with a flavorful rice of your choice being either Djon Djon Black Rice or regular Rice and Beans. Second, I ordered the Fried Goat or Kabrit, and it was moist, flavorful and not too greasy! I loved it and have ordered it 3 times since then with a side of Macaroni, and Djon Djon Rice. Truly amazing. The stew goat, stew turkey and mango habanero chicken wings are also so tender, flavorful and truly worth the drive. Always grab a side of macaroni! You will never regret it. And don't forget to top that off with a lemonade. If you are considering uber eats, yes, it is worth the wait!!!
google avatar

Claudia F.

Yelp
The food was amazing and the location is perfect! My group ordered couch in sauce, creole shrimp, and fried goat. The plantains are fried perfectly and fresh. It was cooked to perfection with the right amount of spices. I would come back. The service was great and we were greeted well. The ambiance is average. It's all black.

Yelp
We had the chance of dinning in and having take out from Greg's and both times the food was AMAZING... The restaurant is very cozy, music is really good and our server Nirva was very nice, she made sure our meal was perfect and enjoyable and constantly checking up on us. There's not too many Haitian restaurants now a days that you can go to and say the food was SPECTACULAR because alot of places has lost their touch, but Greg's cook out is one restaurant definitely keeping good Haitian food going with their amazing dishes and flavors. If I could I'd give this place 10 stars. MUST TRY if you're in the Hallendale area for some of the best Haitian food.
google avatar

Renee B.

Yelp
Came here for takeout. Wanted the Legumes and Djondjon, but they were out of Legumes at the time. Had the salmon instead with macaroni and cheese and djondjon. Everything was exceptional!! I was amazed at how good the Mac and cheese was very flavorful unlike many bricks of macaroni I've had at other restaurants. The Djondjon was amazing as well hit the spot. The service was great and the music and ambiance had a really nice vibe. Highly recommend!!! One of the best Haitian restaurants in town.

Joudpha M.

Yelp
horrible service!!!!!!!!! hire new employees cuz you losing customers every time, never fails

Ashleey V.

Yelp
Had a poor experience with online order pickup. Staff requested ID and debit card used for Apple Pay order, wouldn't accept payment screenshot and proof. My husband was picking it up for me. He even had my ID. All that for $14 and it's not even a 5 star restaurant. Definitely need better customer service training and more flexible policies for digital payments. Unlikely to return.

Carla

Yelp
Horrible experience. This restaurant is known for its good food and that is true but the service terrible. Came in with a party of 7 and it's an automatic 18% gratuity. I would have no problem paying that but i didn't receive 18% worth of gratuity. We waited an hour for the food and our drink came in 30 minutes after. When I ask the waitress on the 40 minute mark she said she didn't know when our food will be coming out.

Alyssa A.

Yelp
Just came from Greg's Cookout and overall the food was mid. I waited almost a hour just to get lukewarm food. The Turkey Tassot simple was 14.00 and the plate was small. The salmon and shrimp platter was a bit salty. The macaroni had no body to it...it literally was stuck to the platter. The plantains were cold mind you I waited about a hour. I wanted to like this place but it's over hype I doubt I will ever go back. I posted pics! The food came out to damn near 65.00, I regret!

Ciara O.

Yelp
food is so good a fresh! first time having griot that isn't dry or over-fried. every single piece was so juicy! plantains were ridiculous so gooood. mac & cheese A1. presentation of food A1. great atmosphere and music. overall great experience and food. I'll be back!

Yelp
Love this spot for takeout. I order often and it never disappoints. Great fish and shrimp and the black rice is incredible.

Stephen H.

Yelp
The food was amazing and Briana offered impeccable customer service! Maybe Greg should consider renaming this restaurant to Greg's exquisite cuisine because the quality of food is light years beyond any cookout I ever been to.

Yelp
Food was freaking delicious! Got the goat and the griot pork and it was so well seasoned. The drinks where also fresh and tasty

Yelp
I saw a video of this place on Instagram and was impressed with the presentation. However, I'm currently here and have been waiting for a while, and it seems like only one person is working. I'm beyond hungry and will be forced to leave and go elsewhere, sadly not getting to try their food. They definitely need more staff onsite to handle the demand. Just as the countdown was about to expire, we were able to place our order. I hope it doesn't take long to prepare, or I might still end up leaving disappointed. I've noticed that customers who placed online or phone orders are getting more attention. From the time I walked in to when I received my food, it took one hour and 35 minutes! The owner needs to step up their game. The food was basic Haitian cuisine, nothing impressive. I give this place 3 out of 5 stars.

Langston B.

Yelp
The food was delicious but not that delicious to wait over 1hr and a half for them to only get it wrong. We were checked on every 30mins or so....and this was for a to go order. My cousin and I order at the same time. We both order Mac n cheese as a side. My plate came out but he was told that the Mac is made fresh to order so either my Mac n was old or they ran out and had to make more either way 1hr 1/2 later my food was cold and his finally came out. I guess the way to go is to call in your order for pick.

Tom J.

Yelp
very flavorful, everything is just perfect as a its it. MUST TRY!!! , my opinion best in miami/broward 100%
