Grenache

grenache is pretty hard to rate: the playfullness of their menu combined with precise execution (e.g. the bouillabaise is an intense extraction of sea flavours, the mussles reduction even tops that with a flavour explosion) makes it an exceptional evening. some more or less annoying things leave room for improvement: 12 courses - some of which take extra time - makes the timeframe from 7:30 to 10:30 pretty tight. at 11 we were basically complimented out. and there is no point in just taking their small menu. but maybe we are just strange diners who have lot to talk about when we meet - and nostalgic about the 'good old times' when fine dining would usually not end before midnight on a saturday evening. red wine drops on the table are a no go - napkins around the bottle neck have already been invented. while the menu is exceptionally playfull & well executed as mentioned, it does miss consistency. one example - the bouillabaise after the mussles reduction leaves a bland feeling - reversing the order would build an arc of suspense. overall grenache is certainly underrated @4.7🌟 and it's certainly value for money & thus highly recommended by us. we thoroughly enjoyed our little christmas celebration there. and the many little flowers sprinkled on the many memorable dishes.

Grenache absolutely deserves 5 stars – our evening there was a true 10/10 experience. The staff was incredibly attentive, and Ileana, the sommelier, created a beautifully elegant atmosphere that made the night feel truly special. Tiago, our server, was phenomenal: he was warm, professional, and so knowledgeable that he elevated every course and made us feel genuinely cared for. The food, prepared by star chef Philippe, was stunning in both presentation and flavor, with each dish tasting as memorable as it looked. Between the exceptional service, the unforgettable ambiance, and the extraordinary cuisine, Grenache is a must-visit Michelin-star experience.

This place has been better than places I've been with multiple stars! The staff are super friendly and know to let you eat or to explain to you the tastings. The wine pairing apparently (I don't drink) my partner says was exceptionally good. The food, the presentation, the atmosphere all felt exclusive but the place still had life and didn't have an air of pretentiousness while still being prestigious. Highly recommend.

Excellent French restaurant serving very tasty food + great wine list with a strong focus on wines from Burgundy which I love! We went to celebrate our anniversary and it did not disappoint. We received a very warm welcome and we started off with some amuses-bouches. I particularly enjoyed the tandoori morcilla, two flavours I wouldn’t have put together but worked incredibly well. Next the bread course came which consisted of a semi brioche type roll and a mini French baguette with butter, olive oil and olive tapenade. The first course proper was a marinated blue fin tuna with a yuzu cucumber chutney and bearnaise emulsion, we both loved this! Next up we had foie gras and smoked eel with beetroot, I really enjoyed this but my wife wasn’t as keen to mix foie gras and the smoked eel. Nothing wrong with the dish, it just wasn’t to her particular taste. The red mullet was cooked perfectly and a real winner with the chef paying homage to Portugal and his French roots by paring the mullet with Carolino rice and a classic bouillabaisse sauce, nom nom! The main corse of porco preto pressa which they cooked blushing pink ( how it should be IMO ) was delicious. We opted to take the cheese course which was fine, the aged São Jorge was a bit lively for us both as it kind of burnt the inside of our mouths. Both deserts were excellent, I particularly enjoyed masala chia ice cream with chocolate mousse and gingerbread. As they knew it was our anniversary they brought my wife additional small dessert which was really nice touch. We didn’t opt to have any of the wine packages as we wanted to drink what we liked and went for champagne to start with followed by an excellent Rully 1er Cru. Overall a wonderful evening, really nice cosy ambiance with great front of house and kitchen team. Attention to detail was observed throughout the entire evening and they are thoroughly deserving of their new ⭐️ distinction. Highly recommend for a special occasion.

Celebrated our 30th Wedding Anniversary this week end and everything was amazing. A relaxed, beautiful atmosphere without pretense, letting the food and service speaks for itself. A splurge of lifetime for us, but the memories will endure. Thank you !

I would definitely recommend stopping in to this 2024 Michelin star restaurant. I feel like the reviews thus far are very different from the experience I had while I was there. The food was excellent and the service was wonderful. Their martini was worth the price and the prefixe menu was definitely enjoyable. Foie gras and beets are not my favorite foods but otherwise, everything was spectacular!

AMAZING. We found this restaurant based on a local the same day. We happened to be in the area right when it opened. We asked if we would be able to get a table for 2 and we were lucky that we could. What followed afterwards was an experience of a lifetime. We did the tasting menu and it was a high art we were seeing and eating. Every course was amazing. Since I do not eat meat, they made special accommodations for me. The service was impeccable, what you would expect in a fine dining restaurant and more. The port cocktail I had was out of this world. A real hats off to the chef and the crew. They have the three pillars nailed down: food, service and ambience. If you are in Lisbon, tired of eating Portuguese food for few days in a row and want an experience, go to Grenache. You will not be disappointed. We will be back.

I got sick eating here. Only ate 2 courses. Barely touched the 3rd and 4th course. Asked to not be served the 5th and 6th course. Was still charged the full price. I I complained and my 100-euro meal was discounted to 70 euros. Complained again because I shouldn't have to pay for eating food that made me sick. I was yelled at and told nobody gets sick there. We just paid and left.

I ate alone at Grenache, facing the open kitchen, which allowed me to watch in amazement at the meticulous attention to detail that the team puts into every dish. Tasting menus only with a solid wine list. Don't waste money on French wines - the sommelier recommended two Portuguese wines which were outstanding. Very innovative flavors and textures to match the beautiful aesthetic presentations. Every bite was delicious- which is very hard to do when there are so many different things. A real joy!

If you're a fool, like me, you will walk into this restaurant not realizing that a "Michelin plate" is not the same thing as a Michelin star. But this restaurant seems to be banking (literally) on the naivety of castle tourists who frequent the area, prominently displaying the Michelin logo on the sidewalk in front. If you are someone who is very impressed by the appearance of food on a plate, this is the restaurant for you. Hopefully you don't care that the actual taste, because you honestly would probably be happier at a McDonalds. I am serious about that. Yes, that bad. The vegetables were raw and semi-warm, the flavors were strange and didn't mesh together. Pretentious and unpleasant. We were sitting next to a travel guide who was on a trip selecting destinations for her clients. We discussed the meal with her. There wasn't a single item any of us really liked. For €80-98 each. I thankfully opted only for the €80 five course menu. The waiter had a curious habit of asking how each dish was and then spinning away on his heel as one was formulating an answer. It was very bizarre. Perhaps he knew. What is the point in getting feedback when the goal of such a place is just to take tourists' money?

EAT HERE. And tip well. I wish I were educated enough to describe how delicious the food is at this restaurant. I wish I deserved even a small fraction of the service and attention I received from the wait staff here. This place is beyond magical. These people are dedicated to making and serving food and drink fit for the gods, and they are humble enough to welcome rando tourists like me into their restaurant to have one of the best meals I will ever consume in my lifetime. thank you. A Memorable Meal. In our very first night in Lisbon we were lucky enough to heed the recommendation to eat at Grenache. A small hill near the castle will lead you to a lovely small restaurant within the Belmonte Hotel that will leave you wanting to come back. We chose the fixed menu with a wine pairing (beware wine pairing is sill not, at this point, a fixed price.) Every item in the meal was delicious, cleverly created, beautiful, elegant and balanced flavors. French favorites like the pork tarrine or the reduced sauce on the chicken dishes were enhanced with creative touches like a turmeric sauce or the addition of boletus. There were moments of discovery like: Who knew that we all loved beets and mackerel together? The wine pairings were well thought out, getting better and fuller as the menus progressed. My favorite a French rose. Both desserts were superb. The apricot dessert, tart and sober (verbena!!) and the chocolate dessert dark and velvety, super decadent. Thank you for an incredible experience. The service was as excellent as the food. Highly recommended. We will be back for more.
