Portland Pop-Up Incubator Grey Horse Saloon Opens in a Motorcycle Shop | Eater Portland

"I saw Houser transform the bar within Legion Motorcycle Company into Grey Horse Saloon, a hidden saloon and pop-up incubator inside a motorcycle shop; the “saloon” side is still in development as he awaits a liquor license, so for now the space functions as a home for rotating pop-ups (Third Coast Hot Dogs, Picco Pizza and Sushi Closet) while he refines the bar concept and prepares for a fuller opening." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Oh boy—this spot quickly became one of my favorite late-night munchies stops. These hot dogs are SO GOOD. Forget the boring, plain sausage-on-a-bun with just ketchup—these are loaded with flavor and color, just like the Colombian hot dogs I grew up with. My personal favorite (of course, as a Colombian) is the one topped with pineapple. YUM. The owner is also super kind and always makes mine with the GF bun I bring along. (If you don’t have your own, he even offers a gluten-free almond flour tortilla option!)

Sage is incredible. The hot dogs are incredible. Some people have No manners, and don’t deserve hot dogs. Anyone that has any problems with how this place is run needs to seek help. You know who you are.

Finally checked this place out. I love hotdogs. Their beef dogs are delicious and i did see they offered meat alternative sausages as well. I got one with Pickled Jalapeños and Tortilla chips. Amazing. Their buns are also delicious. Cool spot inside a motorcycle shop. Very unique idea. Definitely recommend.

Best dog in town! Perfect bun to wiener ratio. Unique flavors but balanced to perfection. Owner and bartenders are so down to earth and welcoming. Def returning regularly.

Best hot dog in town. Period. Vegan and gluten free options as well. Welcoming to everyone. Ride a motorcycle, scooter or bike or walk or car doesn’t matter just go down have a great hot dog. And meet some great people. Very laid back. Grey selection of N.A.’s and good regular drink menu as well. A true gem in Portland.

Went there on an invitation from a friend. The setup was nice. And the music was PERFECT — just how I like it. Music selection was spot on and instantly added to the good vibes. Their benches at floor level? Brilliant! I actually enjoyed leaning forward — gave me a free core workout while hanging out. Two days later and I still feel the burn. Who knew a night out could double as fitness training? And the speaker announcing hot dogs? Pure genius. It cut through the music like an angel from heaven declaring: “Your hot dog has ARRIVED!” Never thought I’d get goosebumps from a concession stand announcement, but here we are. The service people were fantastic, and I LOVED the “do-it-yourself” setup. No fussy table service — just straight to the counter, grab your own drinks, and bus your own table. Exactly like McDonald’s, but with cooler vibes and better food. Efficiency at its finest. Hot dog was delicious, and honestly, I can’t wait to go back.

The vibe is distinctly Mexican Texas (NOT TexMex). Cumbia music adjoined to a motorcycle shop with clever N/A cocktails that can have the liquor of your choice added. Their menu is just hot dogs, but they're deliciously charred, the way you want a dog to be. Choose choose any number of Texas city inspired dogs on their menu. We'll be back for sure. Got the San Anto and 512. San Anto had the better toppings, more cooked in house, but both dogs were cooked great.

Looking for a hot dog? Stop looking and come here. Want it vegan and/or gluten free? Come on down. Looking for non-alcoholic options with a chill, down-to-earth vibe? You get the picture. Grey Horse and Third Coast created a great local spot where everyone feels welcome and eclectic music is a feature, not a bug. Leave your ego at the door and order the San Anto.

Yelp
Sage What a gem Vibe was dope, ambiance was relaxing, very clean, garage doors rolled up and perfect breeze when we sat at the bar. Service was top tier, Sage recommended the mole hot dog (his favorite) and it was mine as well. My friend and I got 4 glizzys and he kindly cut them in half for us so we could each try them all! Smooth ordering, maybe 10 minutes for our food, drinks were really good as well. I recommend this place to anyone and everyone, I definitely want to work my way through the menu. I believe Sage had said if you can eat 6 dogs, all different and of his choosing, in one hour you get a free shirt. If you eat 8 (same rules as above) you get a shirt and don't have to pay for the dogs. Bring friends so you can try multiple, too hard to choose one!! I'll be back.

Yelp
I want to celebrate my next birthday here! Portland-style "bike OR bar" that is inclusive, friendly, has bicycle parking (you lock to a motorcycle wheel) and plenty of outdoor seating. (The big doors are open so even the indoor seating has plenty of fresh air, feels Covid-safer than most places.) The hot dogs are long and skinny, beef or vegan (same price), on a nice roll. And instead of giving options of what to put on them, the menu has a list of preset combos, which are interesting and unorthodox, and named after Texas cities. They grill them on an electric grill perched on the bar, and assemble them lovingly. Drinks? A nice beer list and not just one, but half a dozen NA beers! Also they make a bunch of house cocktails, just as creative as the hot dog list, that you can order as is or add booze to. Plus they're open late! (A rare thing in Portland.)

Yelp

Yelp
There aren't many late night food options within the central east side. If it's past 10pm and I haven't had a chance to get dinner, I head right over to the Grey Horse Saloon. Within the motorcycle shop, there is a small bar serving a wide variety of hot dogs. The long list of styles include all vegan toppings including a vegan dog option. Sage, the bartender and hot dog creator is the coolest dude. He makes sure everyone is welcome and fed. The hot dogs are quite filling and at an affordable price point. The drink selections at the bar are plentiful and include many NA options. Don't be scared of the bikers. Go and enjoy a beautifully topped hot dog!

Yelp
These hotdogs are mindblowingly delicious. There's one man behind the bar making drinks and hotdogs and he's a boss. It's actually in a motorcycle shop which adds to the good vibe.

Yelp
Grey Horse Saloon have a great selection of tasteful, creative & delicious Hotdogs. Also, with Vegan options. Beers and N/A options as well. I've been down there many times and I've never been disappointed. The Owner/Operator is a down to earth guy and always extremely respectful and passionate about his dogs & it shows. Nothin but good time and chill vibes. Go give Grey Horse a try. You'll thank me later.

Yelp
Read the buzz, had to give it a try. Did not disappoint. The absolute best hot dog I've ever enjoyed. Inventive combinations of ingredients and absolutely spot on flavors. Grey Horse the go to for hot dogs, best music mix, beers and hospitality. A great spot for dogs and beers.. Cheers!!

Yelp
You might think you know what a hot dog is before you visit this place, but I promise you, you do not. Whatever you get here will become the dog against which all others are judged. The topping combinations he whips up are clever and satisfying, sure, but it's the hot dog itself, the cross hatching, the snap of the meat and the caramelization in the hatches...this hot dog sinks its teeth into you and you'll find yourself thinking about it for no reason a week later. It's in a garage and if you sit inside it smells like motor oil, but somehow that helps it. And the mixed drinks are cheap as fuck.

Yelp
Amazing hotdogs!! They also offer bunless and vegan options! Always a great time meeting up with some friends and trying their new specials

Luca R.

Yelp
Go try this place right neeeeoww. It's SO GOOD. 10/10. If I could take you there and buy you a hot dog myself I would just because these dogs need to be enjoyed far and wide.
