A Horror Buff's Great American Roadtrip

"Beverly Hills has no shortage of famous estates, but Greystone Mansion ranks among the most instantly recognizable and historically notorious of all. Designed by the architect Gordon Kaufmann, better known for his work on the Hoover Dam and the Los Angeles Times building, Greystone Mansion was completed in lavish style. At the time of its completion, it was reportedly the most expensive home ever built in California. Ned Doheny Jr. moved into the spectacular Tudor style mansion with his wife and children in late 1928. The home was a gift from his father, notorious oil tycoon Edward Doheny, who made a fortune and narrowly escaped incarceration for his role in the Teapot Dome scandal. Doheny Jr., however, was not to enjoy the spoils for long. Just four months later, on a fateful night in early February, Doheny’s boyhood friend and secretary, Hugh Plunkett, arrived at the manse and let himself in. Ned’s wife, Lucy, saw no reason to find such a visit curious. As the visitor made his way to Doheny in a spare bedroom, her suspicions were only aroused after a single gunshot echoed from the home’s east wing.  What transpired before and after that shot remains a mystery to this day, as stories from the surviving parties become nonsensical and timelines fail to coalesce. Forgoing police involvement, Mrs. Doheny summoned the family doctor from a nearby movie theater. Upon his arrival, the two made their way to the room containing the late Doheny and Plunkett. The latter is said to have answered the door, gun in hand and highly agitated, only to close and bar the door once more. The wife and doctor then heard another shot ring out, and both men were found dead, lying in pools of blood, once access was gained. Newspapers leapt on the sensational events at Greystone Mansion, claiming it was the act of an unstable madman fraught with jealousy, but the exact events of the night (or a clear motive) were never determined. Forensic evidence painted an even more complicated picture of the evening, including Plunkett having been shot from behind at a short distance while smoking a cigarette, several hours of family members having tampered with the bodies before the police were called to the scene. Regardless of these factual complications, the case was ruled a murder-suicide, closed, and the families continued with their lives. A mourning Edward Doheny Sr. donated his son’s former residence to the public and in 1976 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Ever since, Greystone Mansion has appeared in more films and television series than nearly any other home in California, including The Big Lebowski, Ghostbusters II, Gilmore Girls, MacGuyver, The Witches of Eastwick, and more. You may recognize the distinctive black and white tiled hallway from one film, its ornate wood paneled office from another, but chances are you’ve already seen the interior of this historic Beverley Hills mansion without knowing it. While visitors aren’t permitted inside this historical Beverly Hills mansion, all are welcome to roam the palatial estate freely." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

We've had the privilege of shooting several weddings as a husband-and-wife photo/video team here at Greystone Mansion & Gardens, and every experience there has been stellar! The main area for ceremony is absolutely beautiful. You'll be surrounded by magnificent greenery and flowers, and the view perfectly encapsulates the aisle. The cocktail hour and reception area is held against the backdrop of the mansion, so even if you decide to have minimal decoration, the venue itself will automatically make your wedding look stunning. Of course, there are many areas for photos and videos as well. From a long pond with a fountain, grand windows and tall, majestic trees, there is no shortage of locations to capture both intimate romantic moments and fun moments with guests. The staff is incredibly accommodating, and it seems like they have plenty of options for catering and bringing your own extras like a boba bar or dessert. We'd highly recommend this venue for your wedding!

I am so glad this landmark is free, and easy to access. There are so many superior resources are only owned by human at the top of the social pyramid, even nature property. Us, as most ordinaries, we should live a life that does not have fears to complete its maximum possibility. People who were so lucky to be born in rich family naturally own lots of sources. I know this is not fair, but who told you the world is fair? Never. What we can do is do what we can do. Nature hears it, and heals you. The sun, the light, the breeze, the creek, the leaves, the wild flowers, and all the known or unknown living species besides human are truly alive. We just have to expand what we can be happy with, not just human world. I really loved to come here yesterday at a beautifully sunny afternoon with kinda harmony— no strong sun, no strong wind, not too hot, and not too cold. I loved that wall that is on the opposite of the fountain. The light, and the leaves reflected on the wall. All of those are just beautiful in silence. It did heal me for the part that I can not control in the human world—the capitalism, and its solidified class. God bless all of us! God give each of us a so unique, and different life. Why don’t we enjoy it heartily enough?

An enchanting place shrouded in mystery. Beverly Hills has done a spectacular job in restoring and preserving this beautiful historical masterpiece. The original owners , the Doheny family have quite the life story. I do believe that someone unseen still resides here . I had the feeling of not being alone and felt rather like I was intruding despite the fact I was there for an event. Not to scare anyone away, ghosts don’t frighten me. I’m certain the Doheny family is pleased with the care and attention to detail given to the beautiful home to this day. Not only do you feel as though you’re stepping into the past, it also does not feel as though you’re in LA, Beverly Hills or anywhere in America. It’s almost as though you’ve been transported to another time and place. I’m sure that’s the way they wanted it designed… mysterious and mystical. Beautiful and ethereal. There is intention in the design. A certain oneness with nature. An effect hard to achieve when building a mansion in the midst of it all. Beautifully done and respectfully maintained.

Google
Beautiful historical site with free entry to the grounds and free parking. You must pay to enter the mansion. There is a pond with many turtles and fish which is fun to watch. There are plenty of photogenic spots for photos; note that if you’re using a professional photographer, you have to apply for a permit. Pricing is different for residents of Beverly Hills vs non-residents. Overall, it’s a super pretty place to spend a half day with friends or family.

Google
Beautiful grounds you can walk around. There is a pond with fish and turtles, lots of pathways and places to sit. Its really beautiful, and large enough to make a few hours trip, especially if you plan a picnic. The only downside is very little has been done to make it stroller/wheelchair accessible so my toddler was walking and its a lot of stairs. It was fine for us, but I imagine anyone in a wheelchair would miss most of the grounds.

Google
Very very beautiful place and the entry is free. I visited this place three weeks back and I loved it. It was during May so many people visited this place for their graduation pictures. Very scenic and lovely place to visit when you are in LA. The parking was free and it was not very crowded even weekends.

Google
Beautiful free mansion to stroll around the grounds- since it is off season in March everything was not in full bloom yet and all fountains not running- but still would recommend checking out! Also see an incredible panoramic view of LA. There are also bathrooms and water fountains located on the premises.

Google
The Greystone mansion was a gorgeous stop on our way to universal studios the following morning. Word to the wise they don't allow picnics on the grounds so don't plan on doing that. But definitely ware something nice and a fully charged phone or pro camera for pictures! The views of the city and the grounds are breathtakingly stunning!! There was a bride and groom taking photos when we went as well as a lot of gorgeous people who could easily pass as IG influencers taking photos. You definitely don't want to miss the opportunity to take amazing shots here. They have tours available on their website so check those out before you come. I believe the inside is also open to the public only on the first of the month. Again check their website for more information. But definitely take a peek inside through the windows if you come to check out the grounds.

Yelp
Greystone Mansion and Gardens is absolutely STUNNING!!! Definitely a hidden gem as I came in the afternoon during the week and it was not crowded at all. The entrance is free and there was plenty of parking. I am so glad my friend told me about this place. I was strolling, working a bit from my phone and just had a good time watching people enjoy the place. Many come to read or just relax here.

Yelp
Went here for the first time with my boyfriend. It's a large and scenic park with plenty of flowers and trees. My favorite part were the lotus flowers and the little pond with the turtles and fish (though there was one turtle floating around, dead and it looked like it had been dead for awhile :( ) There was plenty of free parking, and not too many people on the afternoon weekday that we went. We saw people dressed for photos and kids rehearsing for what I assume is a play, with some staff there. There were clean restrooms, and quiet spots to sit down and just take a breath of the fresh air. Although it's a park, they have limited hours; I imagine if they opened up earlier or stayed open later, more people would come to take sunset or sunrise photos. You do need a permit to do photoshoots here as well. Greystone Mansion is a historical landmark and many movies were filmed here. All in all, it was nice to visit for the first time.

Yelp
Greystone Mansion is a gem hidden in Beverly Hills. I'm surprised this isn't on more top tourist things to do in Los Angeles, but even as someone who lives here, I love visiting and sharing this place! It's a historic mansion, with giant, perfect maintained sprawling gardens tucked away in the quiet hills among some of the most expensive houses in the city. The best part about this destination it's a public museum with free parking and admission. They even offer tours that go through the history of the Mansion and gardens. Definitely a must visit for anyone looking to spend time seeing great sights in Beverly Hills!!

Yelp
Visited after work during a sudden thunder storm, but luckily by the time I arrived, it was only a small drizzle. The place closes to the public at 6pm and there is abundant free parking in their private lot. Despite the weather, I still enjoyed wandering the grounds, which is quite big and well kept. There is also a Koi pond and numerous benches placed all around to easily rest and take in the serenity around. Could not enjoy the nice view but as other reviews have noted, if you have nice weather, you can see nice views. Restrooms are available. Would definitely love to attend an event here. Did not get to tour inside but you could sign up for a tour to do so.

Yelp
Lots of plants and flowers. It's a great place to walk around and explore. There are always security for safety and clean restrooms. The are pathways which goes around the entire place. They also have a koi pond with turtles, which are fed every morning. It's better to go earlier in the morning for a refreshing walk.

Yelp
This amazing location in the hills of none other than The Beverly Hills, is a public park, so that means no reservations are needed to visit the amazing park grounds. There is ample space in the public parking lot (free), and clean restrooms on site, with a view as well! Be sure to check the hours, the grounds are open daily but hours may vary during the winter and closed during certain holidays.

Yelp
Easily my favorite free activity in the whole county. Let me tell you why. This property was once owned by the Doheny family. It is now a public park owned by the city where movies, tv shows and the like have filmed. The grounds is open to the public. The inside of the home is not. You can however go inside by signing up for a tour or attending one of their music events. Fortunately for me, I live just a couple miles away. On the days that life gets a little too noisy, I walk over here to sit and think while I enjoy the silence and views of the city. The parking lot takes up a lot of space so there's plenty of spots. Walking around here reminds me of the south of France and Tuscany. When the premises are sparse you really get to enjoy the stillness of it all. My favorite corner is the pond full of kois and turtles. While I do understand why it isn't allowed, I really wish they would reconsider letting people picnic in the grass area. It would be so nice to just lay out in that huge area whilst reading or just being. I had the pleasure of attending a concert inside on a Sunday. Me and a friend enjoyed an hour of the VART Duo siblings who both play the violin. They were accompanied by Filippo Lugnan, an Italian pianist. What a lovely experience it was. You can tell the staff takes great pride in the upkeep of this massive property. The grounds are always clean, well kept and all plants trimmed. I always take the time to walk around to smell all the flowers and herbs. Thank you for staying consistent and letting is enjoy this beautiful property. I love this place so much it's always the first place I take out of town visitors to. No one had ever been disappointed.

Yelp
We're back to do the mansion tour (built in the 1920s, approximate cost of $4 million, previously owned by the Doheny Family, 55+ rooms, all wood is hand-craved, currently owned by the city of Beverly Hills)
google avatar

Nicole G.

Yelp
This was a nice walk with some stairs, views and gardens. Parking was free and I think on some days you can pay 8-10 to tour the first floor of the mansion. I really enjoyed walking the grounds.
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome garden for a lovely stroll! We came on a cloudy day but still loved it - the highlight was definitely the turtles! If you keep walking down the steps you'll see a little pond with a lot of fish and turtles! We saw baby turtles as well and they are the cutest thing! There are many great spots for photos and it was not super crowded on the day we went. I believe on certain days you can also go into the mansion so just double check on the website. Tip: they do close at 5pm so come early if you want to explore every corner! Huge plus is free parking!

Yelp
The majestic Greyston mansion, once owned by the wealthy Doheny family, holds a rich history and breathtaking architecture. It offers stunning views of the city Los Angeles and has an abundance of trees, flowers and gorgeous water fountains. It's completely free and is open to the public from 10 AM to 6 PM. The downside? The people. It was hard to get some peace and quiet as there was a lot of people running around, many with very noisy loud children. There were signs everywhere saying that photography was not permitted, but that did not stop people from having their own private, fashion, Instagram, influencer photo shoots. One girl literally lied on her back on the bare floor in the middle of a staircase and refused to move when we stood next to her to go downstairs. we had to turn all the way back around & find another way to get to the bathrooms. I think next time I would go very early in the morning on a weekday to avoid the crowds and to just enjoy the tranquility, peace & beauty of this historical mansion .
google avatar

Dani S.

Yelp
Absolutely stunning place! Came here to see this historical mansion and learn about the history of the family that built this place and lived. The view from the walkway is absolutely stunning. The inside is not open to the public but they do occasionally offer free tours at certain dates and times, check their website for information. The grounds are very beautiful and well manicured. Great photo opportunities. Parking is free in the lot above the mansion.
google avatar

Mia K.

Yelp
A lovely place to spend an hour or two admiring the beautiful grounds and water fountains. So full of history and the site for countless movies, t.v. shows and music videos. Self-guided tours are available a few times a month by reservation. Aside from a sign near the entrance, information from a self-guided tour would have been nice. Good thing I did my research before heading here. Parking is plentiful and free. You can call the city of Beverly Hills which now owns the estate ahead to ensure the park is not closed for filming or special event. When I went there was a quincinera photo shoot. Great choice with the Tudor Revival style mansion and amazing garden and cityscape views. From the outside I wasn't able to pinpoint the windows where The Dude met Mr. Lebowski, but I saw the famous black and white floors where the Go-Go's filmed "Turn to You" and the garden scenes in Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together". Would love to come back for a tour of the mansion.

Yelp
Beautiful beautiful beautiful! Came during a wedding and saw the beauty of that too. Highly recommend, nice walk , nice pics, check it out

Yelp
This place is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! Nestled right in the heart of Beverly Hills, Greystone Manor offers BREATHTAKING views that will leave you SPEECHLESS! From the property, you can see Century City and Downtown LA in all their glory - a true feast for the eyes! I visited with a large group of 50 people on a Sunday morning, and the experience was INCREDIBLE! One thing that makes this place so practical is the PLENTIFUL parking - a rare luxury in Los Angeles: Beautiful gardens that burst with color Majestic castle structures that transport you to another era, Charming mini trails perfect for a leisurely stroll. DEFINITELY planning to return to tour the inside of the castles if that's permitted in the future.

Yelp
I was so lucky to experience the preservation tour last Saturday and see the upstairs rooms! Our tour guide was excellent, she has a decade of experience working at the Mansion and since there were only 18 people on the tour she was able to answer individual questions as we moved through the rooms. It was such a hot day, but we were nice and cool inside because the Mansion is air conditioned, which I was not expecting so that was a nice bonus. I highly recommend this tour!
google avatar

Yelp
Beautiful place to relax and stroll and take photos. Our group enjoyed it very much. Worth seeing!
google avatar

Yelp
Lovely place. Nice greenery and gardens to explore and take pictures. The estate is also located on a hill side with amazing views of the city. This place is also available for private events and wedding bookings!

Yelp
This is my home away from home currently and you'll find me wandering the gardens and admiring the views a couple of days a week. Hidden off of the Sunset Strip in Trousdale Estates, the former Doheny mansion awaits for you to explore. Fountains, lawns and immaculate gardens await without crowds. On clear days you have the multi million dollar views these Hills offer from the Santa Monica Bay, downtown Beverly Hills, Westside, the Sunset Strip and DTLA!
google avatar

Nadia M.

Yelp
Visited Greystone today for the first time. This place is huge! We didn't get to tour inside because it's only offered on the first weekend of the month, but we were still here about an hour and a half. The grounds are massive, lots of stairs and places to take pictures, roam around and explore. It's free with free parking. A nice place to explore.
google avatar

Tiffiny H.

Yelp
I got to go on an 'inside the mansion' tour. Some of the rooms on the bottom floor were decorated for Christmas. And actually, they had a tree decorated for Hanukkah, and a tree decorated for Kwanzaa as well. I thought that was pretty neat. I was there for less than an hour, and that included walking around inside. It was cool to see this place. I just learned about it and then got tickets a few days later. Bev. Hills residents $10 Everybody else $12 They don't always offer inside the masion' tours, I believe. In order to get the tickets, I had to sign up for an account through the Bev. Hills Parks and Rec. This is how you can get tickets ahead of time, otherwise, you can buy tickets in person, about 15 minutes after the scheduled ticket time. They let ticket holders in first.

Yelp
Beautiful grounds and cool to walk around. It would be great to go inside but you have to wait for special occasions or a paid event. Music at the Greystone is on my list! Gorgeous gardens and so many turtles!!!
google avatar

Jordynn B.

Yelp
I went here and accompanied a bride and her groom for their wedding day. The security here runs a very tight ship and you have to be on point and get licensing before doing anything on the property. It will still be beautiful moment and it was an extremely hot day, so definitely bring a fan if you come in the summertime.

Yelp
The Doheny Estate is a Beverly Hills and Los Angeles treasure. The City of Beverly Hills purchased the property in 1965, and in 1971 the entire 18.3 acre site was formally dedicated as a public park. Greystone was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 and in 2013 was designated Beverly Hills Local Historic Landmark. Greystone Mansion & Gardens is a popular event site for weddings, corporate events, and photo shoots. Greystone has been featured in dozens of films, including The Big Lebowski, Spider-Man, The Social Network, and There Will Be Blood and many others.  To visit the mansion is free through the outside only from 10am to 5pm every day. If you want to see Inside the Mansion you need to reserve online and it is monthly only.  Do your reservation ahead of time.  Parking is free and have restrooms.

Sue S.

Yelp
Greystone Mansion is an absolute MUST see when visiting the LA and Beverly Hills area. It has a lot of history, and it is the location of many movies like Spider Man and the X Men movies.
google avatar

Teresa A.

Yelp
I went to the Greystone Mansion recently. I enjoyed my visit. I took a self-guided tour of the mansion. I also explored the various gardens. I admired the architecture of the mansion and the landscaping of the gardens.

Yelp
We were in the Westside and needed a place to walk around to digest.  The Greystone Mansion is perfect because this place is huge!  Great to get your steps in and burn some calories.  The tour inside the mansion is only offer certain times of the month, but we had a nice stroll all over the grounds and took pictures.  Turns out there's a dark history of the Greystone Mansion, but the city of Beverly Hills purchased the estate and converted it into a public park.  It is now preserved in the National Register of HIstoric Places.  The estate ground is open to the public and parking is free.  Many TV shows and films have taken place here.  There's a sign by the entrance steps that listed all the shows.  No dogs and professional photography allowed.

Yelp
Tiktok made me do it! And I am so glad it did because this place delivers magical promises that is up to your heart to fulfill. Meaning that this places is home for elfs, fairies, and magical monarchs, and you can see them if you believe that you did. The place is a good escape that lasts for about 90 minutes. The breathtaking moment, for me, was the passage way adorned with some pines. I am not about trees and thus cannot name them, but it was a pathway lined with symmetrical pines--- that is what I named them. The passage way can be used for a coronation. I imagined my stroll down the aisle, as a coronation stroll for the next monarch of Lostorey- a Narnia like land where magic ruled supreme. I had to wait my turn though for my stroll. A woman was taking pictures of what I assumed to be her and her infant. I waited my turned. My partner-in adventure waited as well. Eventually, she asked if we wanted to take "a quick picture." I told her, we could wait. But she informed us that it might take awhile. This hints at the many pictures that you will want to take here if you are a picture taker for days. We started to take pictures, I do not know if we were quick, but we definitely were done sooner than others might be. There was another woman there with a floral dressed, adorned with 3-D flowers taking pictures of this, this and that, there. Further proof that this is a haven for those who are influencers or aspiring influencers. But in this world that allows dream to be true, it is ok to imagine yourself as a world-wide knwon Tik-Toker. At the edges you can see LA and its neighborhoods. On my day there, I saw LA far away covered by mists. It allowed me to remember that people look at things from far away and see beauty and promise, but when one is close they might realize that everything that shines is not gold. LA is the land of music, acting and glamour for those who do not know it well. But for those who do, the land can be proof that poverty exists. Downtown LA is not only what is promised by the movies, it also what is known by true Angelenos--- an urban city with its fair share of problems. Those problems cannot be seen when you stand at Greystone Mansion and see Downtown from far away. So go here and look at the world through the beauty that only certain heights can provide. There was also a pool with lily pads. The actual house was closed. Google it, you can explore the house only a certain dates. Beyond the house, the grounds are pretty, and incredible. I did see a douche smoke a cigarrette. I was brave enough to tell the smoking beast that he should be ashamed of himself for breaking the rules. He smiled and stop. I wonder if Lancelot felt the same way when he slayed a dragon. Like all super good about himself because he saved the pristine beauty of a place by not letting a smoking fiend ruin it. This place is pure magic. Go here when you have the space of mind to imagine a world of your own, founded on this kingdom. Trust me, you will be glad you escaped reality through the portal that is Greystone Mansion.

Yelp
Kinda annoying getting here, but once you get here you'll forget about all of that. A beautiful mansion that's free of charge, and the grounds are rather large. A great place to visit with the family.

Yelp
Want to chase your favorite Hollywood film sets? Then come here and explore what Greystone Mansion has to offer! Countless of movies, music videos, and TV shows such as Gilmore Girls was filmed here! Coming here was such an adventure as this place is nestled right in Beverly Hills. However, the views are amazing and this makes it the perfect place for photo shoots. I believe if you want to take professional photography, please make sure you get the right paper work as without it you will be fined by one of the lovely rangers that patrol this area. Asides from that come here to explore what this beautiful estate has to offer.

Yelp
You may not have ever visited the Greystone Mansion...but you have almost certainly seen it. It has been in a lot--A LOT--of movies, TV shows, and commercials. They have a list online of the shows which have been filmed at the mansion and I can assure you that the list is not all-inclusive. I recently watched some obscure 1970s movie (which is not on the Greystone's list) and there it was. Once you see that black and white checkerboard floor, you know it's the mansion. The mansion is owned by the City of Beverly Hills so visiting the surrounding gardens is free. It's free to park and it's free to see. The gardens are pretty cool (especially the pond with the koi fish and turtles) but try and time your visit so you can go INSIDE the mansion. For a relatively small fee, you can go inside one day a month but check the website (and specifically the City of Beverly Hills website) to check the schedule and buy tickets. Your visit will be much more rewarding. The inside tour is self-guided so you can spend as long as you like inside. If you get inside the mansion, you also get to watch a short (10 minute or so) video of the history of the place. Frankly, it would be better to watch the video first but that's not how they run things. You watch the movie after you tour the mansion. This is a very cool and almost free L.A. experience. Do it.

Yelp
Visited on a day the grounds were open, but the mansion was closed. We absolutely loved walking around the grounds. Beautiful skyline views from the ponds and perfectly manicured foliage. Ample parking. Would love to come back on a sunny day and especially when the mansion is open.

Yelp
This place is a true hidden gem. I've always heard about it but never bothered to go see it in person. They show movies once in awhile so that's what we were doing in the area and I am glad I stopped by to see it.

Yelp
I came here for the inside the mansion tour which is self-guided. The inside was nicely decorated for the holidays and it was interesting to read-up on the history of the mansion. I was here for about an hour. I paid $12 to go inside the mansion and parking was free and plentiful. If you're in the area it's a nice place to take pictures and get a nice view of LA.

Yelp
Great place to visit and enjoy some quiet time in a scenic environment. Great photo opportunities, especially in the garden areas. We were fortunate to view the lotus flowers in bloom, and that made our day! The lotus are of such magnificent beauty and serenity.

Yelp
This place is so beautiful. Worth the visit and plus it's free. Makes you feel rich and part of its history.

Yelp
What incredible history and landscaping! From plush gardens and water fountains this place oozes with romantic yet some tragic history. I prefer to stick with the romantic side of the mansion. It is absolutely free to park and enjoy the outside of the grounds. Tours aren't available yet so if you want to explore I highly recommend it!

Yelp
Super cool historic location. We came to walk the grounds an see this beautiful mansion and had a great sunday afternoon. They sometimes host private events like weddings, so you might get restricted to only a portion of the estate, but there is still plenty to see. Great views overlook the west side. There are beautiful architectural details everywhere. Great spot for the instagram lovers or photo heads. Don't miss the pond - there are tons of coy of all sizes and lots of turtles too! This is a great public space offered by the city to enjoy.

Yelp
I love this park and its beautiful scenery. However, I had a negative experience with a park ranger, a woman with brown reddish hair, who was extremely rude. While taking pictures with my boyfriend, he lifted me onto a ledge where I sat for no more than 30 seconds. I checked the rules, and there was nothing stating you couldn't sit on ledges. Suddenly, this woman came out yelling, "Get off that ledge!" in an unnecessarily aggressive tone. There's a respectful way to address people, and this wasn't it. Just because she wears a badge doesn't give her the right to behave that way. I have family in law enforcement, and they would never conduct themselves like that. What made it more frustrating was seeing kids climbing around--something far more dangerous--yet she said nothing to them, likely because their parents were nearby. Her behavior was completely out of line.

Yelp
If you're considering paying $380/hr for a photography permit at Greystone Mansion, proceed with caution. You're paying for access to the grounds *as is,* and if they're in poor condition, that's your problem--not theirs. I booked a one-hour permit to shoot in a specific courtyard, but when I arrived, it was a disaster. Christmas trees from a prior event were dumped haphazardly in a corner--no stands, no arrangement, just a pile of trash. There were also random "Happy Holidays" signs cluttering the space. It completely ruined the photos I'd planned, and despite my photographer's attempts to edit the mess out, the results were disappointing. When I reached out to Greystone to request a new shoot date or at least a partial refund, they refused. Instead, they told me I could've "just used a different area." So, apparently, for $380/hr, you don't get access to the full grounds--you only get what happens to be usable on the day of your shoot. If the area you planned to use is filled with garbage, too bad--you're expected to figure it out yourself. For such a hefty price, I expected professional maintenance and accountability. Instead, you're paying for uncertainty and a lack of responsibility. Save your money and avoid the frustration--there are much better venues for photography that actually care about the experience they're providing. **Update:** After my initial review, Greystone Mansion reached out to clarify that my signed application explicitly states, "a permit does not grant exclusive use of any particular space and that some areas may not be available due to maintenance." While this confirms their policy, it essentially means you're gambling on what will actually be accessible or in good condition on the day of your visit. At $380 per hour (nonrefundable), you have no guarantee that the desired areas will be usable--or even clean. If you're okay with taking that risk, go for it, but proceed with caution.

Yelp
Half of it is closed off, super disappointing. There is also a lot of people. In nice weather, it is calming & fun to walk around.

Yelp
The grounds are breathtaking, we walked around every level of the vast estate. I had a mind blowing experience, to know that a family lived there in years past. I enjoyed seeing how many television shows and films that were filmed on the property! My son guessed that the X-men movie was shot at the Greystone Mansion and he was correct. Grateful for the opportunity to see this beautiful estate and so glad that the city has opened its doors to the public.

Yelp
What's not to love here? Free park and gardens. They have events and programming here including movie screening. Some events have a fee. Parking is also free. Great space, friendly for dogs. Hidden right in the heart of BH and Sunset Blvd.

Yelp
This is a beautiful place to visit and explore the scenery along with its history. There's a lot of stairs while walking around the area. The parking is free and there's plenty of space they offer. However I was very much in shock when this park ranger named Claire approached me. She was very rude and disrespectful to us. Their hours of operation on here and the website is until 6pm, but we were already kicked out before 5:30. She told us that they're already close and we needed to leave now with attitude and was quite rude to us (as we were walking upstairs making sure this is the correct way back to the parking lot). I told her "oh we're going right now" and she continues to talk back to us. Then before we leave to walk to our car I asked her what time they close and she said 5:30, which I thought was odd since it's posted up to close at 6pm on the website and on yelp. Then we get into our car with plenty of cars parked around us to see what our next destination would be before leaving. However, she drives the park ranger car and approaches us while we sit in the parking lot for no longer than 5 minutes to tell us that we need to go and we said okay we will and she said "like right now you guys need to go." I thought it was odd how there's a bunch of cars parked, but she was only telling US to leave immediately. Why demand us to leave when we've only been in our cars for 5 minutes while there's other cars around? She came off insanely rude and I thought it was horrible that she approached us that way. I looked into other reviews and it seems that the way employees here treat us is solely upon our looks. Not sure if I would recommend but I would definitely be wary and cautious next time.

Yelp
This place never gets old. No matter how many times I walk amongst the pristine landscaped grounds, I will never tire of such beauty. I have been lucky enough when I go it is never crowded. The weather is always perfect. And the house is usually open to some degree. Today was no different. The weather was cooperative and and the sound of birds and the smell of flowers just added to the already amazing ambience at this venue. If this is a place where people get married. This is a place where the affluent have their soirees. This is the mansion where the Doheny family resided. At 1st glance it looks like just a mansion. But as you tore the property and me and are in-and-out of the gardens and walk yourself down to the gatehouse. You realize this place has character. If you're lucky enough, you'll discover the small waterfall that leads to a pine filled with turtles and koi. The Italian themed decor travels throughout the property The large massive fireplaces and the letted letted stained glass windows. If you stand still and listen quietly, you can almost hear you're the parties that took place here in the twenties. Pack a lunch, stretch out on the grass and enjoy moving back through time for just a moment.Revel in the Courtyard while you take in the magnificence sense of the detail of Italian resident Renaissance with a touch of Gothic. Did I also happen to mention this property is currently owned and managed and maintained by Beverly Hills Park Rangers. While it is free, you should respectfully make a reservation online. Parking is complimentary, so feel free to wander as long as you wish

Yelp
Our first time seeing the Mansion and we only viewed the exterior and gardens. Can't wait to buy tickets to see in interior of the mansion

Yelp
I still need to see more there. They were attending two weddings in the best gardens, so I couldn't visit very well. I know next year the mansion will open for visitors. I am planning to go in week days to visit gardens better. Garden and parking lot are free, just use your phone for pictures. They charge pictures and filming for engagement, cards pictures, commercial pictures. Dog are not allowed.

Yelp
Great place to visit. Nice walking path and gardens. Thank you for keeping the place nice.
