We scheduled a reservation and arrived at Griff's at 8:00 pm on a Friday evening. This restaurant is tucked away on the outskirts of Asheville near Candler off Sandhill Rd. If you aren't able to make it to the establishment in person, they offer delivery through Kickback. Kickback delivers farther than any of their competitors; Weaverville, Leicester, Candler, Swannanoa and beyond. So there's no excuses not to try this.
They weren't super busy, so we were sat quickly. The ambience was clean, quiet, elegant without being overly stuffy, and pleasant to the eye. Our server addressed us quickly, and checked on us frequently throughout the dining experience without being over bearing.
We ordered the shrimp buns as an appetizer. We overlooked the spicy in the description, therefore I wasn't really able to enjoy the appetizer, however my husband said that they were absolutely delicious. The whole shrimp was cooked perfectly, nice note the greens complemented the bun well with the garlic aïoli. The pepper mash was spicy but not overbearing and it is dependent on your personal spice comfort level.
I ordered the hamburger with fries. The fries were thick and cooked perfectly and very delicious. Almost reminded me of a double cooked french fry. The burger however, was another story. The pretzel bun sounds like a great idea as I am sure it will soak up the juices in a properly cooked burger. But, if the burgers over cooked, it can do the opposite and make the burger taste overly dry. With that being said, I would much rather give them another chance before finalizing my overall review on the establishment. They went well above and beyond my expectations of making things right.
My husband ordered the chicken confit with Farro and roasted turnips. The chicken confit was cooked to perfection, cooked exactly how it was supposed to be cooked and tasted exactly how it is supposed to taste. The Farro added a nice nutty crunch and complemented the richness of the duck confit.
Overall, our experience was amazing. The service was top notch and they went above and beyond all expectations. I was really shocked to see that the tables weren't full because the food definitely warrants a packed house. Perhaps I found our perfect little secret where we can get gourmet meals at an affordable price with little wait time? I partially hope the word gets out because the food is too good not to share; and I partially hope no one else finds out because I'm selfish like that. Lol. But if I want them to stick around, then the word needs to get out. I, hands down, recommend this place. If you only have time to eat at 3 restaurants in Asheville, make sure this is one of them.
