Grill At Knob Hill - Review - Ketchum - Sun Valley - The Infatuation

"Inside the Knob Hill Inn, the Grill’s large dining room makes it a great spot for groups, though you’ll probably need a reservation. (Alternatively, if you need a break from said group, you can grab a spot at the bar, which seats about 15, and sip on an Afternoon Delight cocktail in peace.) The Northwest Rocky Mountain-influenced menu rotates seasonally, but no matter the time of year, each meal starts with a basket of popovers with honey butter that are so good you should preemptively ask for two orders when you sit down. Try the prime rib sandwich or fried chicken entrees, and keep an eye out for the vegan dish that’s usually worth ordering." - Hayden Seder

I was staying at the hotel and decided to try the restaurant. It was really, really good! I had the walleye with sauteed spinach and seasonal vegetables. I started with the fall salad with vinaigrette dressing. I had a popover with a honey butter sauce that was so delicious. The service was great. He offered really great suggestions. The manager came by and checked on me. Everything was perfect!

We held our wedding reception at the Grill at Knob Hill on 10/13/24. Bob and the team were awesome to work with! The food was amazing from appetizers during our cocktail hour to the main dinner during our seated reception. The space transformed beautifully and Bob and his team helped make our wedding vision come true - we could not have had a better evening!

Google
Appetizer: calamari - was shaped like French fries which reduced all the chewiness - amazing - hint of spice Dinner: (special) scallops with avocado, wild rice and jalapeño butter - 2nd dinner pretzel encrusted walleye - both were amazing - scallop dish had a lot more lemon/acid and the walleye dish was a lot more subtle We would return and get both again

We celebrated our 32nd anniversary here & we couldn't think of a finer place. Menu included all of our parents' & any foodie's classic favorites, like escargot, lamb lollipops, filet mignon & prime rib, rack of lamb, proper Wienerschnitzel with the perfect balance of sweet (lingonberries) to savory (spaetzle), mud pie... Oh & piping hot, crusty, buttery pillow-soft popovers, our first!!! So addictive. Service was warm & friendly. But we should've asked for steak knives for our roast chicken & schnitzel, & mud pie...

Google
Ambience and service were nice! Three of us had the trout, and we all agreed it was mediocre at best. Lacked flavor. Had an espresso martini and a tiramisu martini . They were both sub par.

We sat in the garden outside. It was unbelievably lovely... I felt like I was at a garden party in England. The tables sit on a soft, green lawn, beautiful flowers and shrubs all around the perimeterof the lawn. At night it gets dark and all you have is moonlight, candle lit tables and some string lights. I was perfectly delighted by the ambiance. I had the shrimp for an appetizer and the Idaho Trout. Shrimp came out in the shell and was a bit of a pain to peel, but the trout was perfect. It was a huge portion (but I couldn't... I ate the whole thing).

Google
Excellent service and unbelievable filet mignon! We sat in the bar area during the dinner rush to be in a quieter place and loved that we still got a private table. The food came out super quick and was delicious! And the popovers with honey butter is such a nice treat to accompany the meal. Will be back when we’re in sun valley.

Google
We come to Sun Valley from Salt Lake City 3 or 4 times a year and this is the best meal we’ve had in this town. My wife and I had heard from some folks the trout was fantastic so we both ordered it and it was awesome! Met the owner who was most gracious and friendly and relayed the same message to him. Beautiful grounds and expert service! Unfortunately we probably won’t be back in town for another couple months but we will most definitely be back.

Yelp
Great food, ambiance, and service. Did not love the bread or the dessert (creme brûlée) but the entrees were delicious. My party especially liked the trout, the prime rib, and the filet. The escargot was a fantastic appetizer.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I stayed at Knob Hill lodge for New Years and we had the best experience. The hotel was wonderful but it was such a treat that the restaurant bar in the hotel lobby was so delicious. We sat at the bar twice for dinner and had excellent cocktails - the bartender knows his stuff (he made us dirty martinis w/ blue cheese olives and taught us exactly how they are made)! The complimentary popovers are a treat. Both of our meals were delicious: trout was very flavorful and the filet was the perfect size. We were very pleased and the bar/restaurant alone would make us stay at Knob Hill again.

Yelp
On February 16, 2025 my family including 6 adults and 3 children ages 3 to 13 and 12 months reserved a table at The Grill at Knob Hill at 5:15 PM. The restaurant was informed when we made the reservation that there would be children. We ordered drinks, apps and main courses. The children were seated the whole time but the babies 12 & 13 months old were becoming fussy and the parents did their best to calm them. This was not satisfactory to the manager who, after we had finished and paid our $750.00 bill asked us to leave immediately. We were appalled and insulted. They knew we had young children and that is why we made an early reservation. I would NOT recommend this restaurant if you have young children. Also, the food was average plus.

Mark L.

Yelp
Waitress told us that they are known for their fried chicken and weinerschnitzel. We ordered both dishes. The meal started off with some unbelievable pop oversight with yummy honey butter. The chicken was moist with a crispy breading. Mash potatoes were included along with mixed veggies. The weinerschnitzel was the best I've ever had (had in Europe). A large, soft veal with a delicious flavorful fried coating. braised red cabbage, lingonberries, spaetzle, seasonal vegetables. Would go back again.

Lindsay B.

Yelp
Horrendous experience at this restaurant. We had two one-year olds with us and, in the middle of our dinner, the manager asked us to leave because the one year olds were making noise while eating. The manager actually told us that we should have stopped feeding our children since they were making noises while eating. She then proceeded to tell us that we weren't parenting our children since they needed to go on walks in order to stop making noise. Not crying, not throwing temper tantrums...they were simply babbling. We'll only go back here if we want to be harassed at some point in our lives.

Yelp
For sure a favorite spot in our town. Knob hill is special spot for many to stay at and with that comes the grill. Dinners here in the winter or summer are for sure special. Food and service is exceptional. On this winter night our friends joins us to enjoy a great delicious meal. Go and enjoy.

Yelp
Wonderful meal at the Grill at Knob Hill. Made reservations for New Yeats Eve. We enjoyed a round of drinks (wine and espresso martini) at a table outside their wine cellar. Some in the party had Cesar salads, which were so fresh and good (served in chilled bowls). The entrees were on point. The Rainbow Trout and the Prime Rib were cooked to perfection. The Organic Chicken was super delicious and flavorful. Check out the Grill at Knob Hill.

Yelp
The Grill at this lovely Inn has the most gorgeous garden. Unfortunately, it was an unseasonably cold and slightly rainy August day in Sun Valley (on my bday of all days). And so we sat inside, but had a few of the lovely garden. The restaurant inside is lovely as well. I've been a little nervous about eating inside with the the rise of Delta cases, but the tables were well spread out and staff followed all covid protocols. They also has gorgeous paintings of Sun Valley throughout the restaurant by an artist named Karen Jacobsen that were very fun to check out as we walked to our table. It was a very delicious birthday meal. We started with some wine (rose for me) and ordered a salad and sauteed calamari to start. I've had some tasty calamari in my life, but this may be one of the best. For our entrees my husband and I split the rainbow trout (good) and Canadian Walleye (amazing). I was hoping to add a crab leg to the side, but sadly they were out. The apps and entrees turned out to be incredibly filling, but I couldn't say no to a classic mud pie dessert on my bday. And the waitress was sweet enough to follow my husband's request for a candle. Sun Valley has many incredible restaurants, but this may be one of the better meals I've had there. I look forward to coming back during future trips and would love to check out their rooms at some point too.

Yelp
Enjoyed our anniversary dinner while staying at the hotel. It was a very nice dinner and we enjoyed our drinks, dinner and service. Loved their drink menu, especially the Slow Burn! Craved it the rest of the weekend, but only splurged the night of dinner. Hubby got a New York steak special and it was cooked and seasoned very well. He ate the entire steak (1. Because it was delicious, and 2. Because our hotel room didn't have a microwave.) I got the Weinerschnitzel. Also delicious. Both meals came with popovers as the bread. But one each. Fine by hubby, but I would have been happy of more were brought to the table. A great wine list also. For dessert we ordered coffee with Baileys (since we weren't driving) and the Mudpie. Again, finished it all. Definitely make reservations. If we're up there again I'd hope to sit on the patio for dinner or drinks.

Yelp
Stopped here with friends on a Friday evening for dinner and drinks. The valet parked the auto and we proceeded to our table in the bar area. The atmosphere was upbeat and the establishment was busy. The staff was friendly and attentive. I ordered a ribeye steak special along with some calamari, both were very good. I wanted a stout and they did have Guinness in a can, no stout on tap however. Would not hesitate to return if in the neighborhood.
google avatar

Yelp
Loved the calamari (see pic). So tender and flavorful, just enough heat. Also enjoyed the burger and rack of lamb. Great ambience. Call out to Brittany for good service.

Brooke D.

Yelp
I recommend this place highly. We ate here twice. They are laidback, accommodating and the food was excellent. The steak and prime rib both excellent, as were the salads and the mud pie, which I took back to my room. The popovers were a nice touch too. The restaurant is cozy with beautiful artwork which may be local.

Brent S.

Yelp
we had an amazing dining experience. food was great. service was impeccable. atmosphere is unique and fun. highly recommend.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed at the hotel so we had dinner one night here. Service abs food were excellent! I had the filet mignon and she had the salmon both were really good! This place is one of the best restaurants in Ketchum for sure!
google avatar

Patrick H.

Yelp
Delicious food in a beautiful lawn setting. We brought a bottle of wine which was graciously opened and poured for us with a small corkage fee. The escargot were delicious and the prime rib turned was a nice treat. This is a great place for an upscale meal.

Yelp
Knob Hill never disappoints. Every single dish knocks it out of the park. The pretzel crusted wall eye is amazing, the trout is decadent, both chicken dishes are out of this world (don't sleep on the roasted chicken, the sauce is nicknamed "crack sauce" because it's so good). The changing specials are very consistent and the wait staff is always great. This restaurant is a staple for my family, my sister even had her rehearsal dinner here. We love it and come back as much as we can!
google avatar

Sam K.

Yelp
Ate there couple weeks back at night the server lied to me. I think that's mean. Food was so so I would say below average. Maybe ours was like that because of a large party. Any how this restaurant is off the checklist and not visiting again. Desert was watertight The shameful thing was I asked the waitress if I could get the fried chicken whic presumably they are known for. She said it was not pet of the prefix menu and she has no left Then after me she brought 5 of those to the next table in our group. Don't you hate it when they treat you like this. Well a so so restaurant with a crappy service

Yelp
~ The Grill at Knob Hill is Good Still ~ Every time I visit Sun Valley, I must go to this restaurant/bar! It is amazing and service is incredible! Thank you for a great dining experience and being very accommodating for giving us the table my mom enjoys!!! See you next time !

Yelp
Sad we wasted our last dinner in Ketchum at this place. We were in town for two weeks, ate at a variety of spots and this was our least favorite by far. The food was way under seasoned. And the service was mediocre at best. There are so many other great restaurants (both high and low) in town, skip this one.
google avatar

Yelp
If this is not the best dinner spot in town, it runs close. We have been Sun Valley travelers for the last 45 years and have eaten at all the spots... and love a number of them. We had a family dinner there on our last trip (in March 2021) and it didn't disappoint (except in 1 little tiny area.... read to the end). The food is always prepared very well... from the fried chicken to the giant steak they served me. The sides are well done and plentiful, the appetizers were spot on and the wine list is exceptional (but pricy!). We had 7 of us, so we essentially had the run of the menu, and nothing disappointed. I had the ribeye and it was perfectly medium and one of our steak lovers ordered theirs rare - and it was RARE... too rare and was re-fired but no problem at all. The portion sizes please, the sauces were just enough and again, the sides were wonderful. I am careful about my carbs... so I left about 70% of my mashed potatoes but it took tremendous discipline to not wipe them out. We really love coming here... and in the summer, we sit outside and it is divine. The only issue I had was that I ordered the Fruit 'CRISP' for dessert and it came with nothing crispy... just a thick pile of oats/breadcrumbs? something... on top that was thick and dry. It was more of a 'crumble' vs. a crisp... and I fell for this same name issue last time we were here (and my wife reminded me too, of course!). Can I ask that those that create the menu, be honest about it being a crumble vs. a crisp? I expected something warm and hot out of the oven with a crust... not a sand pile. THANKS! Still a 5 star review because it would be unfair to drop it over this teeny, tiny issue.

K B.

Yelp
Favorite spot. Especially in the summer. The dining room has been under renovation it seems like for quite some time so I stopped going because it feels too informal for what you're paying.
google avatar

Brandy N.

Yelp
I was in town for my birthday so I decided to try Knob Hill. Let me say it was very classy, friendly staff and great food. I had the salad, filet mignon, huckleberry cheesecake ice cream, a cup of decaf, and a nice glass of red wine. The man next to me kept raving about the trout so I'll have to have that next time. The view out the window was breathtaking...I wish the patio was open but it was too cold to sit out. Overall my experience was well spent.
google avatar

Philip M.

Yelp
What you would expect for a special dinner out. Very comfortable, cosy atmosphere with indoor/outdoor seating. There's a separate full bar before you enter the dining room, with a friendly crowd. They have some unusual cocktails. I ordered the local trout which did not disappoint. The service was outstanding. Get a reservation in advance. This is a popular place!

Heather B.

Yelp
A lovely spot for dinner and drinks were good. Unfortunately, all 3 of the meat entrees were raw. We ordered Filet Mignon -medium, Prime Rib- medium and the Prime Rib sandwich-medium. We sent all 3 back. Both the filet mignon and prime rib came back rare. Only the the sandwich was fine. Very disappointing. While they comped the Filet Mignon (which I did not eat because it was still undercooked) and the wine (which we appreciated), the experience was not great. It was difficult to get someone to take the food back to the kitchen and the manager was no where to be seen.
google avatar

Marlayna D.

Yelp
My husband and I spent New Years Eve here and it was a really nice experience. The restaurant and bar were hopping like every place in town on NYE, so it was fun to be out about. Our service was also great, despite it looking so busy. We ordered the Lescargot appetizer which was divine. They also brought our bread popovers with honey butter and oh my, this was amazing. I want that everyday!! For dinner we split the Ribeye with pesto potatoes and it was okay, not the best. Mainly because it was definitely cooked medium to medium well when we wanted medium rare. The flavor was good though, just a little overcooked for our liking. Drinks - were great. And for desert we had the creme brûlée and mud pie - both were delicious! Overall, we were very happy with our choice and had a fun night out to close 2019!

Todd C.

Yelp
If you come to Ketchum come to the Grill. It's the best place we've found this far. The food is great. The ambiance is great. The service is great. Pray they don't disappoint you as they've not yet disappointed me.
google avatar

Alma H.

Yelp
We had dinner here once while staying at their hotel. The outdoor ambiance is really nice. The food is pricey, but it's super delicious. The salads are very tasty, too, just wish they were bigger. It's a good place to go to for a special occasion, for sure!
google avatar

Yelp
There are lots of restaurant choices in Sun Valley. There seems to be the appropriate focus on steak dinners. We were invited to join friends who dine frequently at the Grill at Knob Hill. The restaurant is located within the Knob Lodge, but it is my understanding that the restaurant is independent from the Lodge. Service was very nice with lots of recommendations (and smiles). The menu is quite extensive especially when you add the long list of daily specials that were offered. At our table we tried all had a salad starter and of main courses we had the Risotto, the Asian Ribs and the Halibut special. All received high praise. We splurged at the end by all enjoying locally made Lemon bar ice cream. Reservations are especially recommended during the summer and winter high seasons.
google avatar

Yelp
What an amazing meal!! Ursula (our server) was a pure delight!! Truly one of the best restaurants in Ketchum! On our second visit we thoroughly enjoyed our lamb and seafood dishes! Love the cuisine - and Ursula's service!
google avatar

Chief J.

Yelp
Outstanding. The BEST Werner schnitzel I have ever had in my life. Seriously. This is a great place hidden from the Californian tourists. Love it.

Angela M.

Yelp
Such a cute restaurant. A chalet feel and nice staff. Food is good and cocktail we had was excellent. Will definitely come back.
google avatar

Jamie F.

Yelp
Had one of the best meals ever while staying at the hotel! Great drinks, and the crab legs were incredible ! Bryan, Dave, and Kasey are amazing ! Will be back soon!
google avatar

Mindy C.

Yelp
Delicious meal... we had the filet, crab legs and risotto. All delicious. They had great meals for the kids as well. Service was incredible and they had a unique wine list.

Veronica P.

Yelp
Ordered rack of lamb and prime rib with sides of mashed potatoes and veggies. Rack of lamb came out cold and my fiancés whole plate (prime rib, mashed potatoes, veggies) was also completely cold. Rack of lamb and veggies were not very good as far as taste goes. Food is not worth the high prices. Rather goe to other places that serve the same food that tastes better and is cheaper.
google avatar

Penelope T.

Yelp
The location was nice but the risotto here gave me food poising ruining what was supposed to be a reunion of friends. Will not come back.

Eileen J.

Yelp
This restaurant first came to my attention because of past positive reviews. Taking some long overdue R & R in Sun Valley, I sought to treat myself to a special birthday dinner and I was not disappointed. The rack of lamb lived up to its reputation and the staff was exceptional. Because of COVID, I took my care package to go and was pleasantly surprised with a tasty dessert (and candle)! Thank you -- these little acts of kindness go a long way these days!

Yelp
The decor is nice, but the inconsistent food and horrendous service made the experience way less than expected. I ate there with my wife and parents. Here's the play-by-play... Our waiter was Frank. We were seated and ignored for about 5 minutes. Waiter finally came by and said he'd be back in a minute. A few minutes later, the waiter took our drink order and asked if we were ready to order food... to which we asked if there were specials. Waiter was terse and provided names of specials but was not forthcoming with descriptions. It was like pulling teeth to understand what they were serving. He kept pushing the Walleye (his favorite). About 5 minutes later, the waiter came back and said the drinks were not ready, were we ready to order... AGAIN!!! it was like he was trying to get us out of there as fast as he could. We declined to order (were were not in a rush). Time to order... first question... "what was the specialty pizza" (first menu item)... I guess Frank forgot to mention that when we first asked about specials. Sounded good, but we were not in the mood. My wife asked if she should order a vegetable.. Waiter said no, plates were served with a good portion of green beans and carrots. Appetizers: one escargot, one calamari, two beet salads. All were delicious. Escargot was not traditional, but was very delicious. The Beet salad was great! My best dish of the evening. Tender strips of calamari were also top notch. Main course: Three of us ordered trout, One ordered the schnitzel. Schnitzel was great. All three trouts were a little over cooked. Sauce was almost non-existant. Portions were large. As for the ample portion of green beans and carrots ... that turned out to be two very small pieces of cauliflower (1 inch crowns) and a few snap peas. It was a disappointing experience given the price and reputation of the restaurant.

Yelp
Great food. The grill is owned and run by the former owners of Warm's Springs Ranch Restaurant. They still have honey butter that they serve with popovers instead of scones. The food is delicious. The service is great and everyone was friendly. Definitely going to have to come here every SV trip.
google avatar

Philip S.

Yelp
Wow! Great experience and great food. The grilled shrimp, calamari and escargot were fantastic! Prime rib was tender and delicious..
google avatar

Delilah G.

Yelp
What can I say? cute, attentive bartenders, great drinks and a yummy wedge salad. My sister and I had such a fabulous time here. It is warm and cozy - but hip and on trend at the same time. Perfection.
google avatar

Wendy G.

Yelp
The best meal we've had in Ketchum. Loved the unusual vegetables served: horseradish mashed potatoes, red and white pickled cabbage, crunchy whole green beans, and roasted red pepper. The meal started off on a flavorful adventure with popovers and honey butter, followed by calamari seasoned and fried perfectly. Two of our party had prime rib; finger licking good. Tried to resist but eventually picked up the bones and got every last morsel of beef. I am recommending this restaurant to all I know.
google avatar

Frank R.

Yelp
The restaurant's setting is undoubtedly nicest of any dining establishment in the Sun Valley area. And years back (when it was called 'Felix's) it had cuisine to match its lovely garden-patio setting. After that time the quality of the food declined. And I had avoided this establishment for several years. But things have clearly changed for the better. My two dinners at the Grill this last month were pleasant revelations as to the quality of the Grill's kitchen. It is no longer just a pretty setting for a meal. Not only myself, but every one of the dozen or so fellow diners made the same observation: the Grill's reputation among the Sun Valley regulars for uninspiring food was no longer justified. The food once again is on par with its lovely setting. The quality of the food and the beauty of the setting perhaps might make it's #1 ranking a fair assessment.
google avatar

Alex O.

Yelp
First off the patio is wonderful here. Absolutely beautiful. The Knob Hill is great, because it's tucked away and a little off the beaten path, which often means one can walk in and find a seat even during crazy after symphony hours. I'm a big fan of the Weinerschniztel, and their fish offerings are very good. Often a nice selection of specials and their wine list is very nice and reasonable. I think this is turning into one of my more favorite places in the valley. Always worth the return.

E A.

Yelp
Not worth the $$$$. This is probably the most beautiful restaurant in Sun Valley but food was only so-so and way over-priced. I had the short-ribs but they were too salty and my salad of a few tomatoes was fine but cost nearly $20. The garden is beautiful and the service was good but many better options available in the SV area.
google avatar

Stacey D.

Yelp
Super surprised the food was not has perfect as it should be for what you pay. Out of 4 meals 3 were substandard. To include overcooked, lack of seasoning and meat was tough. Atmosphere was awesome although kids were running all over landscaping on terrace and throughout restaurant.

Julie H.

Yelp
Just ate at the fabulous Knob Hill on Friday July 31st and it was outstanding. The seating outside in the back is so peaceful and beautiful. We have a large party and the service was fast. A lot of variety on the menu to satisfy everyone.
google avatar

Shelly O.

Yelp
We have been to Knob Hill several times for dinner and it's usually great! However, this last visit was very disappointing. We were a party of 9 for a family party and 4 people ordered the Weinerschnitzel and it was terrible. There was so much gristle in all the veal pieces that a steak knife could not cut through it. Clearly it was a bad cut of meat that should not have been serving it and removed from the menu. We sent one back and it came back with the same issue. Paying $34 for an inedible Weinerschnitzel is very disappointing. I'm giving this a 3 star and not a 1 star because the other items were good.
google avatar

Rose B.

Yelp
I would've given them a 5 star rating if the staff had been more friendly. Our server and the host were awesome but our request to sit inside apparently didn't sit well with the rest of the staff. They seemed offended to have to set up a table for us. There were horrible fires nearby and we were trying to get out of the smoke. With that said, my steak was prefect! The wine selection was good and the meal itself was very enjoyable.
google avatar

Amy T.

Yelp
My five star rating is based on the one meal that I ate at this restaurant, which I highly recommend: fried chicken. Our waitress (who was delightful and an excellent server) said that the restaurant's recipe for fried chicken goes back 30 years to a ranch restaurant. It was the best fried chicken I've ever had. Thick, crispy batter with a great flavor and lots of crunch. I wanted to eat it ALL. I ordered the larger portion and am glad that I did- we had it cold the next day and it was still good. The veggies were done just right and fresh. The mashed potatoes could have been better- they were heavy. The warm popovers with honey butter are delicious and served as dessert for us. Yummy. The outdoor dining area is lovely with a big beautiful flower garden.
