"Grillmarkaðurinn (Grill Market) The award-winning Grillmarkaðurinn (Grill Market), known for working with local farmers and suppliers to create meals that are fresh, organic, seasonal, and delicious, is a definite culinary highlight for foodies visiting Iceland. The welcoming and impressive interior blends contemporary style withnatural textiles, as well as elements like moss and basalt. The menu is generally centered around fish and meat, ranging from salted cod with lobster salad to grilled pork ribs and dry-aged rib eye, but there are vegetarian dishes available, too. Everything is grilled to perfection andartfully presented on wooden cutting boards. The wine list is expertly curated, too. Staff are professional and friendly."

We had such a great dining experience here! The food was great, we ordered a tasting menu and every course was delicious. Our server Vicky was super attentive and lovely. Loved this! Plus it was my mother’s birthday and we got a great plate for the birthday with some deserts.

This was our first stop in the city, and we enjoyed our experience. It didn’t blow me away, but it was good and the service was great! We really loved the reindeer burgers! We talked about them for the whole next day. They were really delicious. Cooked perfectly. The other two apps we got were just OK. We split a bunch of small plates, so I can’t vouch for any of the dinners.

My daughter and I had a lovely dinner, the ambience was very nice, service was outstanding and the food was delicious. The crispy duck salad, smoked artichoke char and salmon were delicious. I wish I could remember the name of the young woman who served us- she was absolutely delightful.

The food tasted fine but was not in the least remarkable or even memorable. The portions for vegetables were laughably tiny. The bread basket consisted of probably a single small roll cut into slices—my Iceland Air dinner roll tasted much better. The service was friendly but amateurish (one member of my party was instructed rather brusquely to “take the plate from my arm, no not that one the other one”, unused wine glasses weren’t removed from the table, dishes were not delivered to the correct seats but rather called out “who had the such and such dish?!” And so forth.) The prices were exorbitant and not remotely justified given the flavors and service. Location and atmosphere were the main draws. I did taste my companion’s “vegan peanut steak” and I’m very sorry to say it tasted like how I imagine canned dog food would taste (and it had that look as well). Just my opinions.

Review from March 2024, long overdue. One of the most amazing meals I’ve had in my life. My wife and I celebrated our engagement in Iceland, and Grillmarket was wonderful in their service, to provide a dinner that highlighted the zenith of our trip. It was our last day, and we had the tasting menu: Every single plate was fantastic, and Svetlana, our local Icelandic waitress, was phenomenal. She was extremely attentive to our needs, and ensuring we understood every meal. Their tasting menu I highly recommend, along with trying any of their unique meats that you could not have elsewhere. Albeit the notoriety of Iceland being pricey, we felt this was completely fair for the service we received. The wine pairing as well, was very smooth and palatable with the tasting menu. If you have only one night in Reykjavik, go to Grillmarket.

I discovered this hidden gem thanks to TikTok, and it turned out to be the perfect spot for my birthday dinner. My wonderful wife and I enjoyed our time in the basement, seated in a lovely spot surrounded by delightful aromas and fascinating wall textures and lights. It was very quiet and peaceful! The menu featured local delicacies, making it difficult to choose just one item. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the sweet potatoes and asparagus were a delightful and creative blend that pleased my taste buds. Thank you for a wonderful birthday dinner date!

This is one of the most expensive restaurants in downtown Reykjavík. The food was good, the only critique was that the char on the beef was too burnt and left a bitter taste. We ordered: Starters Beef Carpaccio Chicken teriyaki skewers. Main Lamb medalions Beef tenderloin 3x cocktails and it cost us 370usd in total The service was fantastic The atmosphere was good but I would have preferred to be on the ground floor rather than on the lower levels.

This restaurant has a very modern, intimate dining space which is perfect for fancy date nights with a partner or a group of friends. We tried the grilled puffin, grilled whale, reindeer and salted cod. All were very beautifully plated and were delicious - food was well seasoned with some Japanese influence in some of their dressings. Wine options paired very well with the meals. Staff were very friendly and attentive. It is on the expensive side but it is certainly worth it!
