This place was excellent from start to finish. We arrived early for a tasting and were greeted with warmth from the owner and Shea. Both were engaging and lovely. We had great wines and heard a lot about them. We also ordered a cheese board and it was excellent. We booked our next tasting for friends who will be in town and cannot wait to return.

Loved this place. Lyndsey the owner is friendly, flexible, efficient, and tells great "wine stories" (terroir, producer, grapes). She is super knowledgeable and passionate. Everything is from small producers, generally low intervention. She has the classics in place, but if you want a slightly more funky natural wine or pet nat then you're also in good hands.

Google
A well-curated wine list, in a beautiful space, presented by a knowledgeable owner — what’s not to love? Highly recommended! Try Grippy Tannins after walking along the Portland waterfront, and see what’s on the tasting menu.

Google
5 stars! I took a friend who is new to wine and we were hoping to get a flight of wine while passing through Portland. Lindsay was incredible and answered questions while we worked our way through the flight. The selection is great. This is not your average liquor store or even wine store. You could tell when speaking with Lindsay that she cared about the wine and had expert knowledge all around. I would absolutely go back!

Very chill spot with great service (along with recommendations). Everything our group got was delicious. Definitely try it out if you're visiting the area!

My wife and I stopped in on the fly and enjoyed a flight of Beaujolais. The one woman show that is Grippy Tannins, regaled us with some of the history of the wine as we sipped. We highly recommend this spot.

Google
Relaxed with a big city feel. Lindsey, the proprietor has traveled to vineyards around the globe and is knowledgeable, without being pretentious. We enjoyed a glass of white and red, choosing to take a bottle of each home. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon with a glass or flight!

Bought a nice Vermentino from the shop today. Selection is really impressive and the shop itself is beautiful. Owner was helpful and it was fun hearing how the shop came to be. Will definitely be stopping in again!

Yelp
Had a lovely Galicia Spain wine flight (can also make alterations for other wines on the menu if preferred) with thorough explanations provided for each wine and the process involved for creating the wine and mixture based on the region. Intimate lowkey atmosphere with peaceful music for a quiet speaking ambiance, absolutely will recommend to others on their visit to Portland!

Yelp
We have been to Grippy many times over the last few years and absolutely love the vibes! A wine bar but more an experience, from the walls of wine to the knowledge of Lindsey this spot is spectacular. Further, I reached out to Grippy to procure a pairing for a private dinner celebrating a Birthday. Lindsey went above and beyond to coordinate with the Chef, find a great mix of wines that paired PERFECTLY with all courses we had! Cannot give a higher kudos and recommendation for Grippy Tannins to anyone looking for a wine stop in Portland!

Yelp
really wonderful shop. Really really cool selection and welcoming staff. This place makes learning about wine far less intimidating! Love supporting small business, especially one such carefully and passionately curated.

Yelp
Grippy Tannins seeks to make wine more approachable, even though they provide an abundance of options that have been carefully selected by Lindsey, the owner. The store allows for patrons to purchase bottles of wine or you can sit and select options of wine by the glass to sip on. There is even an option to do a flight of wine, which features a particular region, and Lindsey talks to you about the wine-making process and taste. I originally emailed Lindsey, as I wanted to schedule a tasting for some friends and myself. Lindsey was super responsive and was happy to accommodate the date and time that I requested. When walking into the venue, you instantly are taken into a modern boutique with bright lights, comfy furniture, and bistro seating. On each wall, there are various options of wine bottles to choose from. Lindsey quickly greeted my friends and I and prompted us to sit wherever. From there, she provided us with a menu of wines by the glass and the wine flights. She also said that if we wanted to peruse the store and if we found a bottle we liked, she could open it and we could drink it there. My friends and I opted for the wine flight. Lindsey was super fun and knowledgeable, however, she kept it approachable so that we could all follow along. Whenever we are in the Portland area, we are sure to come back!

Yelp
Unique wine tasting and retail shop in Portland. Great selection and very knowledgeable owner who will walk you through a tasting or offer purchasing suggestions.

Yelp
Owner is great! Friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Wine is always delicious and they have one of the best retail selections around. The perfect spot in Portland to relax and enjoy a glass or bottle of wine with friends.

Yelp
We wandered into this place by accident, but were SO pleasantly surprised by the experience. The owner was incredibly helpful, knowledgeable and put together a fantastic tasting of wines. Would absolutely recommend for anyone who loves wine or is looking to learn a bit more!

Yelp
My friend and I stumbled upon this tasting room while walking back from our day in the Munjoy Hill neighborhood. Grippy Tannins is located on a quieter part of Middle Street and about 3 minutes walking distance from our Airbnb. This wine shop recently opened in this past Spring. We were able to meet the owner Lindsay and she was so nice and knowledgeable about wines. The shop is open, bright, cozy, and beautiful. There are so many different wines in the shop from so many different wineries all over the world. Best part is the tasting experience. The menu changes each day. She offers a half or full glass of rosé, red, white, and limited wine to taste, as well as charcuterie and snacks. On both of my visits here, I had to try two glasses of rosé. Both were delicious, of course, and I love that you're able to taste and purchase a bottle that you may not have necessarily seen in a typical wine/liquor store. This is a great spot to obviously taste wine, but perfect for a date night, girls night, or the start or end of a night out! I can't wait to come back when I'm in Portland again!

Yelp
What a fantastic find. A little off the beaten path all the tourist shops but still in walking distance. A wonderfully curated shop. Lindsey has so much wine knowledge and doesn't try to upsell you. She points you to wines based on flavor and interesting new finds, not just wines that are expensive. She's happy to chat with you and share her knowledge. What a wonderful way to cap off an afternoon of walking and shopping.

Yelp
Great place, fantastic service. The atmosphere was great. The owner was very friendly and knowledgeable. We were a group of 8 with dogs and she was very welcoming. It was a great place to discover wine and learn more about wine making and the appellations. Would def recommend if you have any size party and enjoy wines. I wish I lived in Portland this would be our regular hangout place.

Yelp
This little place is a GEM! Lindsey, Greg and Shay are knowledgeable and really lovely to be around! A must visit if you are walking around Portland. But a bottle of wine and open it there and ENJOY! Classy, elegant and welcoming.

Yelp
Loved this place! Beautiful and slick store with warm and incredibly knowledgeable service. Check it out! It's mostly retail, but you can also taste wine at a small bar. We ordered the hummus plate as we tasted, and it was excellent. Can't say enough good - so glad this is in Portland!

Yelp
Such a great place to visit. Perfect for wine connoisseurs or people who just want to learn more. The owner is super friendly and is more than happy to share her knowledge with you, as well as just casual conversation. Taste wine by the glass and if you fall in love you can buy a bottle. Grippy Tannins is a must for couples or groups to hang out and converse over a glass of wine.

Yelp
Such an amazing place! Really great ambiance and a great menu for wine tasting. Went here with 3 friends and sat very comfortably. The wine menu was great and they explained them all-- then we chose 4 half glasses. We really loved it!

Yelp
I was visiting Portland for New Years and after lunch went to Grippy Tannins. It was so amazing!! Lindsey is incredibly knowledgeable about wine, pairing profiles, and general life wellness. I recommend this place highly!! You won't be disappointed.

Kerry R.

Yelp
This is an amazing place! You are made so welcome here and the wine selection is excellent! There is a huge variety to choose from, including Austria, Portugal and Australia! There are also great red blends and table wines. Well worth a visit, very near to the Old Port.

Yelp
Our daughters gave us a gift of wine tasting with Lindsey as part of our vacation. This turned out to be one of our very favorite things to do this trip. Lindsey worked hard to give us an outstanding time. She was incredibly knowledgeable and accommodating and also really fun and flexible! She asked for our favorites and our interests in advance and had a beautiful set up waiting for us. She spent ample time answering all of our questions and filling us in on interesting details about how and where our "individualized for us" wines were obtained. She explained how the environment the grapes were grown in and the methods of fermenting shaped the taste (i.e. the valley of a glacier and what effect it had on the mineralization of one of our selections). She brought out maps and showed regions. We learned so much, and every one of the wines was delicious. The wine and cheese tray was delicious and this was an incredible value for the money. Lindsey is a treasure!

Yelp
Stopped in yesterday and was really impressed with the decor, wine, and especially Lindsey's knowledge of the wine. Great place!

Lynne R.

Yelp
I had a wonderful experience tasting different wines. The owner, Lindsey, was very helpful and pointed me to a variety of selections that I would enjoy and helped me find a wonderful wine I had on this trip so I could take home a bottle.

Yelp
I was recently treated to a birthday wine tasting party with friends at Grippy Tannins, a great new(ish) addition to Portland's food and drink scene. I had visited the shop before and loved Lindsey - the shop owner, the wine, and the vibe, but hadn't realized they hosted parties, which was a really nice surprise! Lindsey recommended a variety of wines to taste and shared as much about them as we wanted to know while we drank and noshed on cheese and charcuterie, which was also available at the shop. The location is just slightly off the beaten path so you feel like an insider when you're there, which will be especially nice during Portland's busier months. This is such a great place for a tasting party or to stop in for a glass or to buy a bottle to take home -- highly recommend!
