So the last set of reviews of Dollywood's Grist Mill cinnamon bread were largely back in 2020. We have been pass holders for many years (except the last two). However, upon returning in December 2021 for a visit, our friends warned us of the lower quality of the cinnamon bread they experienced throughout 2021 at the mill. Nevertheless, we stood in line for 30 minutes to get some, assuming the mill had a couple of off days here and there when our friends visited.
Unfortunately, our friends were absolutely correct. Something has definitely changed in how the bread at the Grist Mill is being prepared, baked, or both, and much to our disappointment, the famous cinnamon bread has now become quite dry, somewhat over baked on top, and significantly less buttery and smooth throughout. What happened?
This weekend's experience was like eating plain white bread, lightly toasted inside, over toasted outside, and slightly tinged with cinnamon/sugar... as if store-bought and sitting on the shelf for a while.
Hope this isn't a permanent change. We are pretty disappointed.
