Where to Eat and Drink in Copenhagen

"Hidden atop a former auto auction house, this rooftop greenhouse restaurant is part of Denmark’s first rooftop farm and is reached by a circular iron staircase into an intimate communal dining space. Rows of vegetables, herbs, and flowers supply a fixed, hyper-local menu that often includes fish from nearby waters and produce picked the same day, reflecting strong ties to zero-waste kitchen practices and seasonal, on-site growing." - Lauren Mowery

10 Best Street Food Spots in Copenhagen

"Gro proves that street food doesn’t have to be a gut-buster. For years, its cold-pressed juices have been distributed through Copenhagen cafes, but now it has its own kale-green, succulent-clad food truck at Reffen, where you can order healthy breakfast bowls and fresh juices. Whether you’re recovering from a long night or prepping for an ambitious day ahead, this healthy power food—which makes the perfect on-the-go breakfast—is bound to do the trick." - Jenna Scatena

Top eco-friendly restaurants in Copenhagen - SilverKris

"Set in the beautiful rooftop glasshouse of an unassuming apartment block, the restaurant shares a space with ØsterGro, Denmark’s very first rooftop farm. Here, locally sourced produce is transformed into delectable dishes by the dedicated chefs and served communal-style at a long table. Go for the five-course dinner menu, which changes according to what fruits and vegetables are currently in season." - Alexandra Pereira

A wonderful unique experience. If you love to dine out and love different and unique experiences this is for you. Climb up a spiral staircase (or elevator if you chose) to a rooftop filled with flowers, vegetables and herbs. Have a nice glass of champagne or wine while waiting to be seated. You will be invited into a cozy greenhouse where a beautifully set community table is waiting. Your seat is assigned with a pretty metal place card. The table seats about 20 people so place note you will set next to people you do not know. Really enjoyable. I sat next to someone who was from a town 15 minutes from me in NY. The menu was posted on a chalk board and each and every course was created with love, creatively and flavor! They accommodated me with a vegetarian menu but similar to what everyone else ate. It was a beautiful summer’s evening in Denmark. If you enjoy a farm to table experience- this is for you. The bread was outstanding and the buttermilk ice cream. Oh my. All of it - delicious. My husband loved the fish and beef. 🙂

Had dinner here last night. What a wonderful experience overall. Very smart and intuitive pairings of different flavors and techniques. I loved the kombuchas, all very flavorful and delightful. Loved the communal table where guests talk away the night as they wait for the next course to be served. The atmosphere was cozy and the staff were all very friendly and welcoming and were visibly passionate about what they do here with the farm their community and this restaurant. Kudos to them. Much appreciation for sharing this experience.

What a disappointment. Lets start with the positive, the location is unique and the rooftop garden has lots of atmosphere. The table setzing is very basic with uncomfortable chairs, no distance to the neighbour and very cold. The service is putting plates on the table but not asking for drinks or about the food, there was no professional service. But what really disappoints is tbe food: tasteless, cold, not appealing plus mini portions! In a city with so many high quality restaurants this place can not compete

Beautiful venue, and such a unique dining experience! 🙌 We had the lunch menu, and you'll be sat with a small group of people which gives it an intimate and exclusive feel. The host was absolutely lovely, so kind and helpful! The venue is atmospheric, and I loved hearing about the concept behind the menu and how they work, where the food comes from etc. For something a bit different on your trip to Copenhagen, I would definitely recommend this!

Breakfast Review October 2025 Overall very disappointing experience for the price - I suggest people who read this to consider other venues, recommendations below. To start with something postive though, the venue is very cute, and the place is cozy. However, the price for breakfast is 285 dkk. You will get a small baguette per person four small slices of cheese, 1 egg, a small piece of cake, butter, jam a small bowl of yoghurt. There is filter coffee and green tea which you have to get yourself from a tab inside the room. The quality of the food was average, especially if you compare it to other breakfast places in Copenhagen. It is unfortunate that there is no use of ingredients from the garden and very little creativity when it comes to the dishes. The amount of food was insufficient for some of our group. We had one vegan person, which was an option to select beforehand on the website. Instead of substituting and offering vegan alternatives the breakfast was the same just without eggs and cheese. Hence for the vegan person the only thing to put on the bread was jam and margerine, still for 285 dkk. Many other small details were adding up to the frustrating experience: No salt on the table for the egg, Knife missing originally, waiter using phone inside the small dining hall extensively Before going we have noticed that there were multiple other breakfast reviews with similar experiences to ours. Despite responses of management that they will address portions and quality it seems like they are not serious about it. Recommendations for better places to book: For better food for a cheaper price in cozy environments around Øbro/Inner city, have a look at: Bottega Barlie, Andersen & Maillard, Apoteket 57, Seks If you like the community experience for a cheaper price check out: Absalon, Kanal huset

We had their lunch menu at it was really nice. Started off with pasta in a mushroom broth which had this really really flavorful filling that blew us away. I had no idea what the filling consisted of but I know for sure that it was top class. Maybe my favorite of the entire menu. Then we had a serving of their homemade focaccia and whipped butter, also super good! I always appreciate great baked goods and I must say the quality here was top notch. The main course was the most underwhelming. It was fish, served with a hollandaise-esque sauce which they called fish demi glace. The fish was cooked absolutely perfectly, not doubt about it, but the sauce was not to my liking. Flavors were nice, but honestly I thought it was way too thick. As if they had cooked it at a too high temperature or whipped it too much. It tasted like a subpar hollandaise which didn’t fit the quality of the rest of the dishes. It was accompanied by a rather basic beetroot salad. Nothing wrong with it, but again didn’t fit the quality and it felt rather plain. We were told it was to cut the fattyness of the fish and sauce, but I believe other sides would have accomplished this better. For dessert we had a flan, with a bit of licorice powder, candied sunflower seeds and cream I believe. Really really tasty, didn’t blow you away either but definitely delicious. All in all, I would say price to quality ratio is OK. From the starter you have very high expectations, and then the quality dips just a bit. I would come back however! I will try an evening tasting menu too. I thought it was good, and definitely deserves a second try. I don’t know if I am a fan of the social dining aspect I have to admit. I understand it’s a part of the experience, but I think with our group they fell a bit short on the concept. The guests are supposed to converse and have a good time, share the meals, share the experience and all that stuff. I really get it - but we’re in Denmark 😂 it’s not happening. People who can afford to pay for such an experience, would probably rather just sit with their partner/family and enjoy without feeling pressured to engage with their table-mates. I felt it was a bit awkward to share your sides with the people around you, honestly I want my own stuff but that’s just me. I don’t think that kinda stuff works that well here, but props for pushing boundaries. I just didn’t notice anyone actually buying into that part of the concept. 5 starts regardless, could be 4 but I respect the journey Gro is on.

An inspired dining experience inside a glass house on the roof of an old factory and within an urban garden. The five course set menu focuses on danish and organic ingredients, some sourced from the rooftop urban garden. The dinner is accompanied by a exquisite wine pairing and the location makes this a truly unique experience, I like to return to!

Gro was excellent. The staff was lovely, the chef explained how some aspects of a dish were made - which was very interesting- and the setting was absolutely wonderful. If you’re visiting Copenhagen, I would whole heartedly recommend checking out this restaurant. The food was delicious, the ethos is inspiring and we couldn’t find any fault with the whole offering.
