Grocer's Daughter Chocolate Shop

Cute little chocolate shop in the heart of Empire. If you love chocolate this is your place! Unique candy bars and chocolate bark here along with candies and truffles. They also have a coffee bar which incorporates their chocolate. Gelato available in cooler for take out during winter months. Deliciousness!

Who would expect the Empire as the go to place for exceptional ethically sourced chocolate? This iconic small business is known for its care and respect of both staff and customers. Any way they prepare the chocolate is creative and delicious. They also have a gelato shop next door providing lots of interesting flavors. Their building is very identifiable because of its green color.

This place is always a must stop on our visits. The chocolates are incredibly delicious and flavorful. And love their hot chocolates are thicker like drinking chocolates. There is one with chili spice that have a nice spice tingle to go with the sweet. Prices are a little more than grocery stores but the quality is outstanding. Give them a try if you’re in the area and support local biz!

Finally stopped by Grocer’s Daughter after passing many times during summer and fall seasons when the parking lot was full. My husband and I each ordered an excellent mocha (mine with dark chocolate). The chocolate chip cookie we shared was incredible. Absolutely fantastic and really hit the spot on a wintery day. We also bought a 4-pack of hand-crafted chocolates. Vegan options are impressive! Not inexpensive, but it’s about the quality. Many ingredients are locally sourced.

MI natives, my spouse and I currently live in Oklahoma (we relocate often thanks to his military career). I’m about to give birth to our first baby and the one thing I wanted was Grocer’s daughter hot chocolate mix and truffles as my post-labor reward. While we’ve visited the store in Empire many times, I’ve never experienced ordering from afar. It was a GREAT experience! I got to customize the truffles I wanted, it shipped super fast (I recommend reading the shipping FAQs), and arrived intact and not melted (despite it still being quite warm here in OK). Great job, I can’t wait to enjoy my treats!

Delicious! The set up was a bit odd and confusing when we walked in. We weren't sure who was waiting in line for what, but then the staff helped us out a bit and it made things make a bit more sense! We got some assorted chocolates, and they were so good! We also got some hot chocolate mix to take with us, and we enjoyed it that night at the campground. So delicious!

What a special place. You can find out where they source all their ingredients. The people and shop are lovely. You can find specialty chocolates, bars, caramels, fudgecicles, gelato, chocolate chip cookies, chocolate-covered goods. It's a great spot for gifts or a special treat. It's not a big shop, but there are a couple tables and hot drinks with wifi as well if you'd like to stop in for a little while. I highly recommend if you are in the Traverse City or Sleeping Bear Dunes area.
